STATEMENT

00 PROJECT NATURE: REVITALIZATION - MIXED USE ENTERPRISE CENTRE LOCATION: CHATHAM HISTORIC DOCKYARD

The importance of weaving a building with its contextual language and responding to the rhythm of patterned human activity is a trait I value. To me, design changes and evolves with us. I have aims to explore designs in sync with technological progression and schemes that are adaptable to our future needs, striving to further discover the potentiality of impactful positive spaces.

SHAPING NEW STORIES AT STILL WATERS Chatham Dockyard has constantly been changing. Many parts of paths, buildings and usage of the Dockyard in particular has been demolished, extended and rebuilt to cope with the change of use. Perhaps a new proposal can seek to rediscover old paths and artefacts and reinterpret them. This project attempts to embrace the rich surroundings of Chatham Historical Dockyard, and to ignite a conversation between the building and the context. Located between Medway River and the mast pond, it connects both water bodies and acts as a threshold to site. Organisation and movement throughout the building is driven by the masses of water.


PROGRESSION

PLAN

Development from several forms (elongated and centralized blocks) to a linear building with many integrated activities.

Plan development & model development

A long corridor connecting river Medway and the north mast pond. The corridor is intercepted by many activities and facilities, such as the event space, workspaces, cafe, lobby and road. The lobby is visually connected to the river, dry docks, mast pond and green area. This is all in hopes to introduce and lead users of the building to further explore the dockyard.

SPATIAL ORGANISATION Create strong spatial and visual interconnections between workspaces by creating shared spaces at intersecting points of workspace.

Internal spaces vary greatly. From rentable cubic 4m x 4m studios, shared work spaces and event space all intersecting an open atrium space. The environment is meant to encourage creativity, connection, and collaboration for all.

02 PROJECT NATURE: RESIDENTIAL - COLLECTIVE DWELLING LOCATION: FAVERSHAM, UK

CO-DEPENDENT LIVING A project located in Faversham, downstream of the Faversham river. The aim is to create a residential hub which encompasses varying groups. Families, young professionals and elderly. This project utilizes the idea of assembling modular blocks in varying ways to achieve an interconnected neighbourhood where structures, homes and pathways meet at different points.
