In this animation, a stop motion photo series of texts, letters will be taken to describe the motion of the word its own. I have chosen the expression ‘FALLING SLOWLY’. To do this, I will take a several cut outs of letters from magazines and try to move them slowly. I am making a 30 seconds animation - at a rate of 12 frames per second - so I need to take 360 photos of each letter movements. In order to make a smooth and stable transition, a camera on a tripod is essential..

A

bstract Alphabet

is a photograph collection of things and objects that I took on London streets that forms letters. These letters are basically doors, tiles, buildings bicycle parts, ... that have very similar forms to the Roman alphabet. But mostly based on our imaginative perception.

V

ernacular Alphabet

is a collection of letters that I took photograph of the riverside of London. Most of it includes the street arts (graffiti, random spray paint, ...) and street signs (restaurant signs, road signs, billboard letters, ...). This is a native language of the street life in South Bank.

TYPOGRAPHY

COMPOSITON

The first composition is a representation for a tree. To emphasis the rule of third, I added in a ground platform with shadow at a third up from bottom of the image. Also, this is to create a deeper viewer point. The tone of this composition are made by adding colours from the original image. As for the second one, it is a typographic mountain created based on the golden ratio. Three different parts were formed based on their intensity and their eye catching. Different form the first one, this one use the same colours palette from the original but they were overlapping and subtracting each other. For the last one, it is a combination idea of both composition above. The tree was put on top to create a more interesting view. The colours were over lapping, some are subtracting, some are adding each other.

My chosen image is a corlourful mountain landscape

WEEK 3

3D TYPOGRAPHY

Week 3’s subject revolved around the relationship between Time & Space , Text & Image in Design . They are one of the fundamental theory that every designer need to learn . Their relationship tells us the Judgement , Story and a Statement from the Design . I did 3 different word : Holy , Fly , Rain . The first 3D Typography that I created ( image from the next page ) has a religious theme . The background is a photograph of a respected church with a very honour atmosphere . The word Holy stands in front of the camera ,reflect the right and the feeling with its vivid stain glasses texture , compliment the whole piece .

In week 4 , we’re still in the world of Typography . Luckily , I could have more fun with Animation on After Effect . For this project ,I chose the song “If I let you go” of Westlife . It’s sad love song , somewhat dramatic. I chose the theme “Diary” for this project , I used the theme “Love Diary” for this . Most of the font type is hand-written type and the background is a notebook , added an old Tv-Effect to make it more dramatic . The lyric’s movement is quite organic but slow , to express the mood of regret and depressing

The chosen image is The Union of Earth and Water (1618) by Rubens, Pieter Paul (1577-1640). The prosperous union of Earth and Water, bringing mankind wealth and plenty, is blessed by the goddess of Victory, who descends from Mount Olympus, and is heralded on a conch by the Triton, who has raised himself up from the watery depths. The presences of the gods give even a more powerful hidden impact than any other painting that depicts wealth.. It is a dream of everyone to be powerful and wealthy. The fact that they have the painting in the house as well as being able to buy it already show their rich-

ness but sometimes it is still not enough. The envies of possessing keep increasing and never seem to have an end, same for the selfish ego. Therefore, the poor is still getting poorer and the rich is still getting richer. It is like when we stuck in an unchangeable cycle of how life is and we can only dream of breaking out to another perfect life. What we can see is not always true. What I have been trying to do is to exploit the meaning of the painting to another extend. To try to do that, I will take the definition of wealth and powerful towards its negative sides. I will take this 17th century painting and make a

animation regarding the way we live in the 21th century. When you are rich, you tend to forget about the real meaning of life and just to let yourselves how we believe is the best way to enjoy it. Nowadays, a great majority of rich people spend most of their money on branded clothes, expensive jewellery, convertible cars, ... and nonstop parties. All this leads to a total neglectful life. Due to no awareness while drinking, they start to loose their control over their bodies and will eventually do things they sometimes do not know about. Then they have to take full responsibility for all the future consequences they could never think of. These can be very scary sometimes. For example, a girl can easily get knocked up at a very young age after a wild party. Giving birth to the child but not be able to take a good care of the baby, due to lack of experience and the rebellious side in her.

She then gets depressed, goes back to partying and get pregnant again. Since She has money, she would not really care about not being able to pay for the nanny so the same thing will happen again and again over the years, even after she is married. By the time she can take a look back, she has already become an old fat woman with many children to take care of. The same thing goes for the gentlemen. The severe consequences, after years of taking intense drugs and alcohol leave behind a weak and diseased body. On top of that, the man of a crowded is not an easy nor relaxing job to take on. The combination of stress and argument will eventually lead to divorce or breaking a happy family.

Week 8

ProtestGraphics

Protest Graphic has been a tool for artist to revolved , to express their opinion on the subject . For my 8th week project , I did a poster on the subject of “Education Cut . The poster contains a student wearing his Graduated Hat , but his head is merged with scissors , implied the Education which is happening at moment . The slogan is Cut Wisely , otherwise you would cut off the Brain of the Future . 22

Week 7

Digital & Analogue Processes

I choose one of my favourite song as a starting point . Then , I used Sound Booth to slow it down , after that , I extracted the structure of the decreased version . I first make a recording of a series of noises and sounds at different pitch and loudness. The audio then will be edited to form a 30 second of sounds with some repetitive rhythmic movement of the animation . My aim is to create the dynamic side of the reaction of the particle to the music pitch range. I then merge one or few visualisations together to compose another visual.

The animation contains a series of abstract particles with vibrant color that actually simulated by the sound , using audio as the driver for the animation . Because the brief asked the animation to be precisely made with the following structure : sections of 4 x 3-second, 5 x 2-second, 8 x 1-second. These sections should have a strong visual relationship but are not the same. I tried to make sure that they follow the brief , but also somehow vary over every second so that the animation could be both dynamic and structured.

Layout Design

These are some of the ideas of layout i have create for the workbook. Some ideas were picked up from professional source, some were just my experimentation or simply just whatever I find nice.

Binding Books These are some photograph of the book binding workshop where you learn how to bind a book manually in different styles such as regular booklet, Japanese style, ...

Week 11

Digital Synthesis (TV ads)

Thesis&Antithesis

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| This TV advert of Lynx new deodorant try to sell their product by giving out an image of a man that every woman desires. The ad turns a young man into a chocolate man after spraying in on the deodorant. What they trying to tell us is their product is very useful, once you have sprayed on, there is an instant effect. All you needs to do is relax with a smile on the face. What pose the question here is why would every man want to become a chocolate man? This is not a regular deodorant that helps you get rid of your sweat but also give you that scented chocolate flavour all over your body. When you are walking down the street, you can get attention of a girl by your smell just by passing her. It also give you the power to make yourself as tempting as an ice cream topping during summer. Every girl would enjoy a bit from you from ears to belly button.

You can be a walking chocolate box that every woman would desires. The notion of having chocolate is like a bit of a guilt, they want to enjoy the thick taste and the sweet smell as much as they can but their concerns about their body shape is setting up a great barrier. As we can see, when the man walk pass the gym, all the ladies will instantly get attracted and rush to the window Would a real man really want this? Would a strong man want to be seen as a breakable piece of chocolate or to be treated like a snack where people would just not care after they are done? Will it be the choice to help us in the way we stand in life?

This footage was taken during the Chocolate Festival in Camden town. i made an animation like a banner to promote the event.

Mural Animation

As Christmas is coming, all the related banner and signs are pretty much everywhere. Therefore, I just take a random sign and add a doodle of an angel to add up to the ambients.

At this hectic time of the year, people goes out more. The street is always over crowded, especiallly in the shopping areas like oxford street. This animation on the street was made to warn people to be more careful when crossing the street as the crowd may block your view.
