Experience:

My experience speeds across all spectrums of design from print and publication to web and multi media. I have great experience implementing creative and fresh designs and solutions in a professional environment, from briefing clients though to finished artwork. I have gained this experience from working as a freelance designer as well as with other individuals in the industry (AGDA, Conceptis Web Solutions and Spectrum Designs). As well as institutions such as Phantom Media Pty Ltd, the Australian Academy of Science and the Australian General Practice Network. My skills in the Adobe Suite are very refined, I have had experience using all of the programs and have become very competent with my knowledge and practice of these programs. I have also been trained and have used the Adobe, CS2, CS3, CS4, CS5 and CS5.5 Suites. The skills I have in time management, personal organisation and attention to detail have been very well utilised over the last few years, in particular as a freelance designer and writer for Eunduro magazine. Much of my work has been via national and international correspondence so deadlines are always agreed on far in advance and are always final, there is no possibility of negotiating late submission for me in these circumstances. I have yet to miss a deadline so I would say that my skills in this area are excellent. My communication skills are second to none, and I have needed to use these skills extensively for my freelance career to have been as successful as it has. This, in conjunction with my editorial contributions to Enduro magazine, has made me refine them to their best. Naturally some typos still and will forever pop up in drafts though. More recently I have gained office experience with the pleasure of working with some of Australia’s best scientists, finest doctors and best journalist. This has allowed me to work in the office environment and lean to work within a large organization and stick to protocols, guides and standards that are critical for a smooth operation when working in large and small teams. I have done so with no teething problems and have made some contacts for life in doing so. As well as experience in these areas I have also gained sales, mechanical and practical skills from working at Mal Adjusted and Ellacure restaurant.

My attributes:

I have grown up with a high quality of art, film and architecture surrounding me, so I have developed a natural creative flair and eye for detail and emerging trends. I am always looking for new ways to build and expand my creative skills. I have a great ability to work as efficiently on my own as I do in a group. Neither working environment has ever held me back; I have always got the job done. I feel that it is very important to have a good attitude in order to build happy and positive relationships with anyone I have contact with. My understanding of equal opportunity principles and a commitment to their application in the workplace is something I hold as one of my best qualities and I do not ever compromise on those values, personally or professionally.

Personal interests:

My personal interests have a wide range that seems to follows a particular pattern of passion, art and adventure; I always try to be having fun with whatever I’m doing. I have a great deal to do with the bicycle industry and have loved riding my bikes since I was two years old. Tennis and motorcycling riding are ongoing interests as well. I have a great attention span, so love working on my vintage Alfa Romeo and modern sports motorbike, making them pristine. I also have a continuous interest in fine arts and traditional mediums of art witch I practice on a regular basis. Music, theatre and fine food are also a big activities I enjoy partaking in when the opportunity arises. More recently I have put a lot of focus into photography and architecture as they are similar fields that interest me greatly.

References: To whom it may concern, Nicholas Eccles has a high standard of professionalism in all the work he undertakes, is eager to learn new skills and is an asset to any team he participates in and I would have no hesitation in recommending him to any employer. Nic joined the Australian General Practice Network (AGPN) in March 2010 as the Online Media Officer. I was part of the team that appointed Nic and was his manager until I left the organisation at the end of May 2010. Nic’s role was new to the organisation, combining both management and development of the website with design and management of a number of publications and promotional materials. Nic was immediately thrown into the thick of working as part of a small communications team serving the needs of a broad team within the Canberra office, as well as stakeholders around the country. From the outset Nic managed staff relationships well. He was called on to manage a large publication project within a few weeks of beginning his role. This project was significant for the program team, it was the first deliverable as part of a major Council of Australian Governments initiative and there was considerable pressure on the program team and the communications team to create a stand out publication which would have a national roll out and be used as an example to the Government. Nic project managed the entire publication and required very little supervision. Despite being let down by other staff who let several deadlines slip, Nic maintained a professional approach, worked with staff to achieve deadlines and put in several hours of extra time and effort – of his own volition - to develop an excellent product which was well received by all quarters. Nic managed this project from start to finish, including gathering material, sourcing and project managing the work with an external design firm right through to printing and negotiating a delivery date to suit our internal client. During his time at AGPN Nic was asked to create a number of concepts to promote events including flyers, ebulletins and postcards. I was always impressed by the innovation and creativity Nic put into these projects, as well as his personal commitment to develop a new and creative concept. Nic was always able to give good advice, backed up with good examples or reasons, for making design decisions. Within a short time he was a significant member of the team and his skills were in demand across the organisation and he worked largely independently managing projects and staff with aplomb. Nic was always keen to develop his skills across the communications area and also in the webdesign and publishing area. He attended several courses to improve his skills including My Source Matrix (the AGPN website provider) and Advanced Website Design using CCS, which he put into practice immediately. Nic is an intelligent and capable young man who is committed to performing at a high level professionally. He is keen to learn, quick to pick up new skills and shares his knowledge willingly with his team. He was a great asset to the AGPN team and had a role been available for him in my new organisation I would have been very keen to employ him again. Yours sincerely, Frith Rayner Former: Director Communications and Marketing, Australian General Practice Network. 56 Campbell St Ainslie ACT
