those the church has given up on. She has a strong love and compassion for these types of people; she understands that deep feeling of rejection all too well. At one point, it was her. Her mission is to engage the millennial with uncommon practices in ministry that actually appeal to them. She then equips them with The Word of the God and all the necessary armor that they need for today’s battles. Finally, she sends them forth, empowered that they may bring others into the Kingdom of God.

HEALTH CHECK COVID-19: The Vaccine
To vaccinate or not to vaccinate is the question that is crossing everyone’s mind. Truthfully, the decision is up to you. However, should you choose to take the vaccine let’s help you make an informed decision based on the research and what’s best for you. Let’s cover some information you may not know, need to know, or may want to know. Two pharmaceutical companies have created the COVID-19 vaccine, which are Pfizer and Moderna. Both versions of the vaccine have received an Emergency Use Authorization (EAU) from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use during this public health emergency. The FDA is required to assure the people that the vaccine is safe, effective, and can prevent disease. The manufacturers of each version of the vaccine is similar, but let’s answer those questions that inquiring minds want to know. Was this vaccine developed too quickly? During this public health emergency, researchers can work under the federal government operation known as Operation Warp Speed. Yes, there is such a thing. Operation Warp Speed allows for researchers to test the safety and efficacy of a medication on larger groups of study participants while advancing to phase three of clinical trials faster, such as within six months, instead of the typical two years. Is the COVID-19 vaccine safe and effective? The FDA is responsible for authorizing and/or approving vaccines that are safe and have data that proves the vaccine works. Is one manufacturer’s version of the vaccine better than the other? Moderna and Pfizer’s research have shown both vaccine’s to be 94% effective and both work similarly. How many doses of the vaccine will you need to take? Both vaccines require that two doses are given a certain number of days apart. It is important that you receive the same dose
and the same vaccine for your second dose. Ensure you receive a vaccination card with the dose and brand of vaccine you received for when you return for your second dose. Will the vaccine reduce the risk of COVID-19? The experts expect that the COVID-19 vaccine would prevent disease or decrease disease-like complications/symptoms in at least 50% of individuals vaccinated. Based on this information, an infected individual can still spread the virus and the usage of wearing mask, good hand hygiene, and social distancing will still be required. What are some potential side effects and/ or adverse reactions associated with the vaccine? REDNESS, SWELLING,
CHILLS
OR PAIN AT INJECTION SITE
VOMITING
FEVER
DIARRHEA
FATIGUE
MUSCLE PAIN
HEADACHE
JOINT PAIN
*Important to know, even if you experience these side effects, it is necessary that you receive the second dose.
Is the vaccine safe for children or pregnant women? Participants in the study were 16 and older and individuals that were not pregnant. The COVID-19 vaccine has not been approved for children and/or women that are pregnant.
When will the COVID-19 vaccine be available? Once authorized, each state will receive an allocation of vaccines from the federal government. Each state plans to distribute the vaccine in an fair, ethical, and timely manner.
For more information refer to: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention www.cdc.gov/vaccines/covid-19/index.html
Operation Warp Speed www.hhs.gov/coronavirus/ explaining-operation-warp-speed/index.html
Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds you plant. - Robert Louis Stevenson
If I had COVID-19 and recovered, do I still need the vaccine? There is not enough data to say how long after you have been infected that you as an individual are protected from getting COVID-19 again. More studies are needed. Does the COVID-19 vaccine take place of the Flu or Pneumonia vaccine? No, the COVID-19 vaccine does not take the place of either vaccine. How much will the vaccine cost? The COVID-19 vaccine will be free and available to all regardless if you have health insurance or not.

k n a h T We r u o Y r o f You Service Recognizing Dr. Terra L. Williams Dr. Terra L. Williams was originally born in Chicago, Illinois, but currently resides in San Antonio, Texas, she decided to join the military in October 1990 for so many reasons; her main reason was to create better circumstances for her children that weren’t afforded to her as a child and to escape the emotional and physical abuse of her ex-husband at the time. Another reason why she joined was to prove to herself and everyone whomever doubted her that she would do something with her life. During 1990 - 2012 Dr. Williams served in the United States Army as a Pharmacy Technician and started out as a Private and retired as a Master Sergeant. She was stationed at six duty stations throughout her tenure but left a huge impact on both the military and civilian community. She helped renovate several Outpatient and Inpatient Military Pharmacies all while continuing to serve the military community. While on active duty even through the mission was first and foremost, she still found time to take care of her children and attend school her second passion. During the day, she would work to make sure Soldiers and their families received the medications they wanted and needed for their families and at night she would attend to her children and do what was required to complete the necessary requirements to finish several degree programs. During the early part of her military career, Dr. Williams improved her skills as a pharmacy technician, she worked in Outpatient Pharmacy, Inpatient Pharmacy and Support Pharmacy performing

several different duties as the lead technician. She also served in the absence of the NCOIC to make sure the mission was met daily. She was also instrumental in the initiation of the Pharmacy Support Section CHCS system, which made the transition for the hospital staff a smooth process. Dr. Williams had the opportunity to mentor the local Girl Scout Troops. She served on the Color Guard and was commended for her performance at the NBA Playoffs of the San Antonio Spurs. Dr. Williams also won the mentor of the year award from the San Antonio school system while mentoring eighth graders in reading and math. Dr. Williams took time out of her busy schedule to complete an associate degree. Dr. Williams also received the volunteer of the year award for her continuous role as a volunteer for the community. Throughout the rest of her military service she continued to serve the Military and civilian communities. She was inducted into the MEDCOM Sergeant Audie Murphy Club (#180), The Order of Military Medical Merit, She’s a member of the National Association of Professional Women, was recognized by Continental Who’s Who and she coached her youngest son’s track and field team for several years. Dr. Williams mentored countless of Soldiers on and off duty. She wanted them to do better than she did because she started late with her education. Her motto was “teach one, reach one, teach another.” Now that she’s retired she currently enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, reading, poetry, and motivating others to complete their degree programs.

A LOOK AT HOW 2021 ADVERSITIES HAS AFFECTED OUR COMMUNITIES
The African American community has been hit hard by the spread of coronavirus. It is not just the virus itself that’s placing more layers of stress on the black community, but police brutality of unarmed black men and women being killed, job loss, financial and economic disparities, hungriness, homlessness and a host of other issues has added to these stresses. That increased stress has led to depression, child maltreatment, intimate partner violence, suicidality, anxiety, and substance abuse. This means that we’ll likely see an increase in high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and other stress-related diseases at this time. We as African Americans tend to have a higher rate of (core morbidities) that causes Covid19 to be worse in us. In simple terms comorbidities mean the presence of more than one disease or disorder in the same person. Which then tends to increase a person’s need for health care while decreasing the person’s ability to function in the world. So things like diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, and asthma, just to name a few, makes us disproportionately impacted by all that is headlining our world today, and puts us in the high risk group and therefore on a non-level playing field where the odds are already stacked against us when it comes to surviving this virus and the racism we face everyday. This is why self care is most important in our communities. Prevention of these diseases is key. Making sure that we are getting the rest that we need, while seeking counseling or therapy if needed. Even just talking to some-

one you trust about what you may be going through can help to relieve stress and take the tension off. However, if you are someone you know has already been diagnosed with one or more of these conditions. Making sure that you are taking your medicine and seeing your doctor or mental health provider on a regular basis is key. We must start to get these health care issues under control to help flatten the curve in our communities. Also, taking time to sit down with your family (age appropriate) to talk about how you would and should respond and not react when approached by an officer so that no one in your family is ever caught off guard if and not knowing how to respond if God forbids that day is ever to arise. Our lives matter and it is time to start the conversation within our families. We need you to survive.

Apostles Johnnie and Tonia Foster are the founders of Marriage Unmasked a ministry known to many for their Facebook Lives on social media. Their popular catchphrase is: “We Like to Keep it Real About Marriage!” We have been married for over 25 years and God blessed us with two daughters who are also college graduates. Many ask us questions as to how our marriage has last all of these years. They ask, how are you all so blessed? We would tell them by the grace of God, much prayer and most of all obedience to the Lord. Apostle Tonia is an author/coauthor of 5 books that are available on Amazon.com. I enjoy writing and sharing my personal testimonies of what I’ve been through in this thing called life. When not writing or ministering to their congregation, Apostle Tonia focuses on she and her twin sister’s new soul food catering and soon to be restaurant called, “Soul-Right Southern Cuisine.” I love cooking southern meals and seeing the faces of those who sit at my kitchen table boasting about how good it is. Apostle Johnnie a meek man full of wisdom shared he enjoys watching sports and focusing

on he and his brother-in-law’s T-shirt business called, “Blank Canvas Tees San Antonio.” After so many prophecies and receiving confirmation from the Lord, they decided to step out on faith and start their businesses. The journey wasn’t easy getting to where they are now, but they enjoy sharing how God brought them together. We met before we knew Christ, in other words before we both would receive salvation and give our lives over to the Lord. We were living sinful lives and already had a child out of wedlock. Apostle Johnnie admits he would use every curse word known to man and then some. He says his life changed when he received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. I would say a miracle took place and I never used another curse word nor had the desire to drink alcohol again. As Apostles for The Overflow Kingdom Ministries International in San Antonio, Texas; they have had to counsel many people in marriages bringing restoration and healing to a broken bond. God has
to heal people from their past pain, wounds and bitterness so that the marriage can go forth and prosper for the Kingdom. Many need to see that Christian marriages can survive and last if they are willing to go through the process of what we call deliverance. Marriage Unmasked came about 3 years ago!!!!! We actually did our very first recording live from our previous church called Restoration Place Church. It was called, “Why Did I Get Married?” We were so excited, but nervous because this would be our first time sitting down together talking about marriage, as well as sharing our own personal struggles within our relationship to the world. We enjoyed every moment of it and the feedback we received from those who watched the broadcast was amazing! We then wanted our viewers on Marriage Unmasked to be comfortable as if they were talking to their counselor in an office. So going forward, we chose to broadcast from our home. Many couples feel uncomfortable being in a church building or in a church setting and we want them to feel like we are relatable and not like we’ve never been through anything. Apostles Johnnie and Tonia enjoy movie nights for date nights or Netflix and chill rather than going out to the movies. We enjoy relaxing
our experiences and answering questions through Q&A sessions. It’s truly a blessing and an honor to see people say I’m not the only one going through something or to hear wow they’ve been there and done that. God can heal and bring restoration especially to a God ordained marriage. All we have to do is be willing to commit our marriage unto Him and He will bless it. No one ever said it would be easy or everything will work as we planned it, but if we trust God He will make marriage something so beautiful.
APOSTLES in our home for the convenience of being able to push pause during a movie. We enjoy being at home. We see ourselves as the best of friends first, before any other human. My husband still opens the door for me no matter where we go. He still pulls out my chair when going to restaurants (laughs out loud) that’s if I allow him to. Sometimes I can be a bit impatient and I just want to sit down and eat. When my husband comes home from a hard days work, I still greet him and we share a beautiful kiss. Listen, I usually drop everything just to let him know that I acknowledge him. Although having not one, but two apostles in the same household it can be challenging. Why? Because we had to learn to take off those hats so we can be us without thinking about what’s going on with other people or the church. Ministry is 24 hours so we choose to make the most of every moment we have with each other to talk, laugh and enjoy one another’s company. Apostle Johnnie and I have received invitations to speak about Marriage Unmasked overseas, as well as here in the states. It’s exciting sharing
God has afforded us the opportunity to write two books, “Marriage Unmasked Volumes 1 and 2.” These books are based off our Marriage Unmasked Facebook live broadcast and will provide vital information to deal with various relationship issues. In the books we share some of our personal testimonies as well as experiences encountered during counseling sessions. These experiences help to give foundational methods to overcome obstacles in marriage. Our goal is to host Marriage Unmasked Retreats and Gatherings all over the world. People have to know two is truly better than one, because you get a better return, especially if God is first in their marriage. This is the formula for success, it will always win! Black History Facts Black History Month honors the contributions of African Americans to U.S. history. Among prominent figures are Madam C.J. Walker, who was the first U.S. woman to become a self-made millionaire; George Washington Carver, who derived nearly 300 products from the peanut; Rosa Parks, who sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott and galvanized the civil rights movement; and Shirley Chisholm, who was the first African American woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Black History Month: The celebration of Black History Month began as “Negro History Week,” which was created in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson, a noted African American historian, scholar, educator and publisher. It became a month-long celebration in 1976. The month of February was chosen to coincide with the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.

nships io t la e R ic t s e Dom xposed E e c n le io V g Involvin ABUSE IS NOT ALWAYS OBVIOUS, LET’S TALK EMOTIONAL ABUSE If you feel scared, confused or you feel like you have to walk on eggshells around your partner, or maybe you doubt yourself when you are talking with them. In my opinion, you could be experiencing emotional abuse. In my experience, an abuser’s goal is to destabilize another person’s feelings of self-worth, confidence and independence. In an emotionally abusive relationship, you may feel like you are stuck in that relationship or that without your companion you will have nothing. Hear me clearly on this emotional abuse is a form of domestic and family violence. If you feel or you know that you may be in an emotionally abusive relationship, there are many things you can do to get support. Like any form of abuse, it is important to know that if you are being abused emotionally it is not your fault and it’s NEVER acceptable. You have the right to feel safe, respected, supported and loved in your relationships. Be aware if your significant other does any of the following: • makes you feel like you are not good enough • constantly threatens to leave you unless you do what he or she says • threatens to hurt you, your loved ones or themselves if you leave • feel he has to tell you what to eat, how to dress or where you can go • always find fault with you no matter what you do What is emotional abuse? Emotional abuse can be just as destructive and damaging as physical abuse and can severely impact your mental well-being. It is often used as a way to maintain power and control over their significant other.
19
Emotional abuse may be accompanied by other kinds of abuse: sexual, psychological, financial or physical. However, it does not have to include any of these to count as abuse. Take it from someone who has lived through it, it is serious enough on its own to be a concern. Types of emotional abuse Emotional abuse can involve any of the following: • Verbal abuse: yelling at you, insulting you or swearing at you. • Rejection: Constantly rejecting your thoughts, ideas, opinions and at times your love. • Gaslighting: making you doubt your own feelings and thoughts, and even your sanity, by manipulating the truth. For more information on how gaslighting works, visit the National Domestic Violence Hotline 1 800-799-safe. • Put-downs: calling you names or telling you that you are dumb or stupid, publicly embarrassing you, blaming you for everything. Public humiliation is also a form of social abuse. • Causing fear: making you feel afraid, intimidated or threatened. • Isolation: limiting your freedom of movement, stopping you from contacting other people (such as friends or family). It may also include stopping you from doing the things you normally do – social activities, sports, school or work. Isolating someone overlaps with social abuse. • Financial abuse: controlling or withholding your money from you, preventing you from working or studying, stealing from you. Remember that Financial abuse is another form of domestic violence. • Bullying and intimidation: purposely and repeatedly saying or doing things that are intended to hurt you.
JOYCE “LADY JOY” HESTER IAMJUSTL ADYJOY@GMAIL.COM
Emotional abuse causes harm like physical abuse Physical violence is seen as being more serious than emotional abuse I believe, because more likely than not there are scars associated with that level of abuse, in fact, this is not true. Believe me when I say that the scars of emotional abuse are real and have the probability to outlast any scar you can ever get through physical abuse. The effects of emotional abuse can have a negative impact on your self-esteem, confidence and how positively view yourself. Emotional abuse can also leave you feeling depressed, anxious or even suicidal. Everyone needs help and support If you are experiencing emotional abuse, it is vital that you seek help. Do not be driven into isolation and feelings of abandonment. More people know what you are going through than you probably know. Reach out to friends and family for help. There are also a number of services you can contact if you need someone to talk to dial the NATIONAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE HOTLINE FROM ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES @1800- 799-SAFE and they can direct you to further help. Most importantly, if you feel afraid or believe you might be in danger, contact the emergency services (911) immediately. Marriage Matters By Apostle Johnnie & Toni Foster
GIVING UP ON MARRIAGE Have you ever wanted to give up on your marriage? Have you ever had a heated argument with your spouse and yelled the words, “I want a divorce!” Not so fast!!!! Breathe.....Many marriages go through rough patches, but there is always hope. Yes those words hurt! Yes those words stung! But there is hope. Are you hearing each other out? Don’t look at how you receive it, but be willing to listen to your spouses perspective. We all have a right to our opinions; just as long as we can agree to disagree. Change the subject and move on. We must submit ourselves one to another, prefer others before ourselves. There are many reasons as to why people want to throw in the towel on their marriage. However, there are ways to push through to make it work. 1. Don’t hold grudges? And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.”(Ephesians 4:26 NLT). Be able to have self-control. Know when to fold em and know when to walk away. When we hold grudges, it opens the door for Satan to wreak havoc in our lives. Don’t allow things to linger. Deal with them and move on. 2. When there’s healthy communication, we are able to receive, knowing the words that are being spoken are from a pure place. It shows each person cares and
23
has a genuine concern of what is being discussed. It shows both are looking for a resolution so both can move on to the next. 3. Instead of dwelling on the negatives about your spouse, focus on the positives. Reflect on how you both met. Think about the moment you said, “I do!” 4. Make time for one another by scheduling date nights, lunch dates and putting more intimate time into your marriage. These steps will develop a connection that will see you through difficult times and situations. If you don’t like what you’re seeing, change the narrative by making it positive. Instead of seeing the faults in your spouse, begin to look within yourself as to what you could be doing that may be making your spouse feel the way they do. Nevertheless, don’t throw in the towel. Try and keep trying. Don’t give up and don’t give in, your marriage is well worth fighting for.

JOY CRUM HEAL THE LAND LISTEN NOW | In the midst of what’s going on in the world today, birthed a song in me. It’s called, “Heal the Land.” In times like this we need GOD to heal our land! In the Bible, 2 Chronicles 7:14 tells us the prescription to receive healing from God for our land. Whatever your land made be, know that God’s healing is available to you! I hope the snippets of my latest project entitled, “Heal the Land.” Released 2020
