Hello
from
The Little Theatre
W
e’re excited to present our spring/ summer season for 2024. We have an eclectic collection of plays and visiting productions coming up, plus our second annual Easter musical. The season starts with a trip back to 70s suburbia for sitcom classic, The Good Life. Crime is on the agenda in March with iconic thriller Dial ‘M’ for Murder. Over Easter, we’ll have a horticultural twist to our annual musical, as we ‘unlock the magic within’ The Secret Garden. At the end of April, we uncover secrets and lies in J B Priestly’s Dangerous Corner. In May, our youth theatre will fall down the rabbit hole for Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. In June, we’ll examine Alan Ayckbourn’s Table Manners, before rounding out the season with The Darling Buds of May in July. We’re also looking forward to return visits from our extended family of societies for their musical offerings, including Legally Blonde (LOPs) and Grease (WAOS).
Page 2
If that sounds like an expensive six months, remember there iss a range of discounts available. The 5-for-4 season ticket allows you to watch the five LDS plays (excluding The Secret Garden) at 20% off. Alternatively, if you book tickets before January 12, you’ll get 10% off through our early bird discount. Fully paid-up LDS members get £10 tickets for LDS shows when booked within a month of the show, and under 25s can get £5 tickets when booking on the day of a performance. You may spot a few of our members ‘thesping about’ throughout this brochure, acting as representatives of our community. It takes all 400+ members to create, crew, design, lead, and welcome you to our shows. Almost everyone you see working at The Little – on or off stage – is a member volunteering their time. If you’d like to know more about becoming a member and the benefits thereof, call the box office on 0116 255 1302 or visit thelittletheatre.co.uk. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Little Theatre this season!

his season will see small-scale, full-length productions return to The Little’s Moyra Haywood Studio for the first time since the Covid pandemic.
Whether serving as an opportunity for new directors to prove themselves before graduating to the main stage, or for established directors to produce a more intimate piece, our studio productions offer the chance for audiences to see something a little bit different at our theatre. At time of going to print, productions are yet to be confirmed as they’re dependent on the outcome of the new director’s showcase in November 2023. However, two weeks have been earmarked for performances. Further information about titles, directors, and castings will be announced at thelittletheatre.co.uk in the New Year. Page 16

et sleeping dogs lie? Or… maybe we should lift that first stone to find what’s lurking underneath?
The members of the Caplan family publishing firm may regret an examination into the death of their beloved brother, for they may each be forced to face their involvement in his demise. Their evening of celebration may not end quite as intended, and the long-held secrets and lies may actually turn their comfortable (smug?) lives upside down. J B Priestley, author of An Inspector Calls, again plays with time in this gripping play, showing what might happen should a careless, seemingly innocent question, be asked.

op Larkin, who makes a fortune from scrap-iron deals but has never paid income tax, lives in rural idyllic bliss with generous-hearted Ma and their six children. When a young, earnest tax official Mr Charlton turns up one hot May afternoon in 1957 to investigate, he is bewitched immediately by eldest daughter Mariette, and it isn’t long before he succumbs to the boisterous Larkin family charm and largesse. With a blend of humour, tenderness, and a touch of nostalgia, The Darling Buds of May will leave you with a smile on your face and a renewed appreciation for the simple joys that make life truly special.
