HOLIDAY ISSUE 2015
The holiday season, with all its glitz and tinsel, is the ideal time to step outside your fashion or beauty comfort zone and experiment with new colours, styles or silhouettes. Maybe just start with a little sparkle in your eyeshadow and a bolder shade of red lipstick. As we say goodbye to yet another year, this is the perfect time to purge your closet as well as your lifestyle, keeping what you absolutely love and letting go of the clutter. to make way for an abundance of health, happiness and of course, new fashion in 2016. GIVENCHY FALL 2015
Riccardo Tisci, Givenchy designer undoubtedly has everyone’s attention this season. Models tore up the runway with faces adorned with glued-on gems and large septum rings, taking face jewellery to another level of glam or as Tisci described it “Victorian-chola girl”. A dark allure enhanced garments to a couture level with ornately embroidered pieces in a rich palette of holiday colours.

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN FALL 2015
Sarah Burton, Creative Director for Alexander McQueen kept riding the wave of dark romance for her fall collection, which showed inside the former prison where Marie Antoinette spent her final days before being executed. Burton not only played up floral embellishments and appliques, but tried the treatments on leather dresses. The true beauty of imperfection was displayed with a melancholic Victorian mood and 18th Century silhouettes with ruffles, high-necked collars and delicate ethereal embroidery.

Designer Reem Acra showcased her collection at the same time as the Oscars, which made perfect sense as many of the gowns were shipped off hours after the runway to waiting celebrities for their red carpet appearances. Acra incorporated artistic beading techniques, velvet cape coats and high-necks inspired by mid‘70s Stevie Nicks’ Polaroid self-portraits.

olidays are always a time to look forward to, but the logistics of packing can be a nightmare! Whether your destination is a winter wonderland or fun in the sun, you always want to make sure you pack smartly: pack light, chic and be prepared for any vacation occasion! Here are my tips for packing with a plan and to take the guess work out of predicting what you will need!
Fun In The Sun
Pick a theme - create a look. You can’t pack everything so choose what your vibe or colour palette is going to be. Do you look good in white? pastels? nautical? or animal prints? Pick one, and build out from there. Also decide if your jewellery is going to be silver or gold but don’t pack both. Lightweight scarves are always great for a chic style element to add to a basic outfit as well as being able to wrap it around your shoulders or neck at night if

it happens to turn cool. Pick one that can double as a light shawl. Linen is great for warm weather vacations just don’t get OCD about it if it gets wrinkly - just go with the flow. Fabrics that have a synthetic component to them pack better and eliminate wrinkles. Since shoes take up so much room, pack a flat sandal, a wedge and a heel for night and if you’re going to exercise on your trip your last pair should be a workout shoe - this will cover all of your bases. You can recycle the same outfit by bringing extra accessories such as scarves and jewellery to make the looks different from one day to the next. This will save on packing space. Need a warm weather outfit for New Year’s Eve for your vacation? Try a colourful jumpsuit with a metallic heel and hoop earrings. And don’t forget an easy woven clutch to finish the look off! Snow Bunny Chic
Just like packing for warm weather vacation pick a colour or theme as the central look for your vacation wardrobe. As a base colour, either go with blacks or browns, but not both. If you choose black, some accent colours that work great would be grays and burgundies. If a warm colours work better on you, choose chocolate browns and accents with beiges, creams and hunter green or rusts. Layering is key so bring tops and sweaters that work together. Infuse some velvet or some chunky knits to give some textural interest. Swap out a skinny jean with a skinny cord to mix up a casual look. And don’t forget fun gloves, scarves and hats that can take a blah outfit to a totally chic one in a very inexpensive way and won’t take up a lot of extra room in your luggage. Need a cold weather outfit for New Year’s Eve for your vacation? Try a metallic sweater dress or a long-sleeve wrap dress with some tights and a dressy booty. Metallic is always fun as a detail during holiday dressing, but just bring it out in one place as you don’t want to resemble a Christmas ornament.
TOP 5 MUST-HAVES FOR TRAVEL: • Airplanes Can Be Cold: Large cashmere shawl or pashmina to keep in your carry-on for cold flights. • Get The Most Out of Your 2nd Carry-On Bag: A chic and durable tote bag will double as your both your purse and 2nd carry-on for maximum storage. Keep your good jewellery, toiletry bag and one change of clothes in tote (if checking bags) in case airline loses it! • Keep Hydrated & Protected: Don’t forget a good moisturizer with sunscreen for the cold or a full-spectrum sunscreen for the beach. • Easy Hair That Works for Any Occasion: ‘Beachy waves’ aren’t only for the beach - so pack The Beach Waver by Sarah Potempa, for a cold or warm vacay for that sexy nighttime hair look! • Skin Is In: Pack a good body scrub to exfoliate your patchy skin from either dry, cold weather or after hours of laying in the sun!

HOLIDAY ISSUE 2015
KAUA’I IS NOT simply a vacation destination. It’s a feeling, a spirit, a way of embracing life. by Sylvia Tennant | lifestyle columnist
A
s the oldest of the Hawaiian Islands, Kaua’i, aptly-named Garden Isle, is an escape for those who wish to explore the unrivaled natural beauty that extends from the majestic peaks of the ancient Napali coastline to the mazes of underwater reefs where some of the world’s most colourful species co-exist in bustling metropolises. NICHE Magazine was invited by the Kaua’i Visitors Bureau to partake in a one-of-a-kind travel experience, where the theme of romance was woven into an itinerary fit for all types of globetrotters looking for an adventure. The warmth and kindness extended to me during my stay is reason enough to travel to Kaua’i over and over again. Whatever your pleasure, I can attest to finding it within this wonder-filled paradise, where anything seems possible.
N I C H E magazine
The Hawaiian Islands are geographically the most isolated inhabited landmasses on earth. Kaua’i is the fourth largest, with over 50 miles of pristine white sand beaches and more than 80% unsettled land to explore. Lihue, the main port of entry into Kaua’i, is nestled on the eastern side between the North and South shores. There you will find Kalapakī beach, which is edged by the lush tropical gardens of the Kaua’i Marriott Resort (left). This protected cove is known as one of the most swimmable shores on the island. During the day, relax in a private shaded cabana with a full service bar at your fingertips, attend a lei-making session, or lounge next to the 26,000-foot swimming pool, which hosts impressive fountains and flowering lounge areas. In the evening, I suggest a candlelit dinner of freshcaught fish for two accompanied by acoustic guitar in one of the airy gazebos. The view overlooking this grand property is superb from the privacy of your dining experience. For those with only a few days to spare, the beauty of Kaua’i is also in its accessibility. Trees dripping with mangoes and vast coffee plantation fields are reasons to remember why the drive is just as beautiful as the destination. From Lihue, take the highway to the South Shore where you’ll find the quaint town of Hanapepe Bay. Set sail to the north from the local marina into Kaua’i’s dynamic seas on a romantic cruise alongside the striking ancient cliffs and valleys of the famous Napali coast. I suggest Captain Andy’s luxury catamarans for ultimate comfort, because counting waterfalls from a first-class vessel is an experience one should not live without. Expect relaxing Hawaiian music, excellent snorkeling, on-board showers, flavourful meals, and entertaining staff personalities. Take the morning sail, as afternoon winds can make the return trip quite choppy. For the slightly more adventurous couple, the Kalalau Trail Hike to Hanakapi’ai Beach hosted by Kayak Kaua’i is a fabulous day hike option that begins the trail of the 22-mile journey on foot to the same destination. It is just as breathtaking, and the aroma of plumeria flowers combined with stunning views is worthy of the effort.
The romantic island way of life is present within the upscale district of Halele’a, which sits on the North Shore of Kaua’i. The St. Regis Princeville is my top pick within this area for ultra-exclusive accommodations. Built into a cliff, this lavish resort is consistently rated one of the top places in the world to be engaged, and for good reason. From private beachside yoga in the morning to the famous nightly champagne sabering ritual, the details of a St. Regis experience are truly extraordinary. Have dinner at the open-air Makana Terrace (opposite page, bottom photo) overlooking Hanalei Bay, which hosts the perfect viewpoint of magnificent Kaua’i sunsets next to Mount Makana. The local culture and traditions of this magical island are integrated into a romantic dining occasion, which serves sophisticated, original plates made with locally farmed ingredients from an award-winning team. It is both intimate and unbelievable, considering each table is dwarfed by majestic views of paradise. Couples seeking an indulgent spa experience should consider staying here, for the therapeutic private room retreats are not to be missed. Exploring the lush rainforest of Kaua’i is most memorable on horseback, and Princeville Ranch Adventures hosted what quickly became my favourite tour of the trip. Expert guides unraveled the cultural history of the area as we leisurely rode on gentle horses through grasslands and tropical backcountry. A short hike through picturesque hala trees brought us to a secluded waterfall, where lunch was served and swimming in the clear pools was encouraged. I highly recommend this tour for the photo opportunities, as the waterfall’s basin is stunning, safe and easily accessible. For those who prefer to have two feet on the ground, the world-renowned 18-hole Makai golf course is five minutes up the road and built alongside stunning ocean views.

Slightly west from Princeville lies the beautiful town of Hanalei. Surrounded by century-old taro fields, it has been said that Hawaiians travel to this historic community to reconnect with Old Hawaii and enjoy the simplicity of Hanalei life. During the day, order lunch from the Hanalei Taro and Juice Co. food truck and wander down to the famous pier, forever immortalized in the film South Pacific. The shops in Hanalei are run by warm-hearted locals and filled with colourful, well-priced, interesting finds. Brands such as Stone Cold Fox and Mara Hoffmann are stocked at the I Heart Hanalei Beach Boutique, which has a beautifully curated selection of stylish beachwear. Date night is more relaxed here and should definitely start at Barracuda, which has a regionally inspired menu and trendy, open-concept vibe. Do yourself a favour and order the local North Shore Honeycomb with goat cheese and Fuji apple which pairs perfectly with any one of their handcrafted cocktails. A trip to Kaua’i wouldn’t be complete without a Mai Tai at the charming family-run Tahiti Nui bar, where waitresses go from taking orders to spontaneously dancing the hula to the sounds of live music. This is the spot to enjoy a romantic party atmosphere and dance the night away. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself lined up behind a Hollywood A-lister at the bar- many celebrities own property in Hanalei. After a late night with the locals, wake up slow and head into the lush emerald Kaua’i interior to have a relaxing float down the open canals, tunnels, and flumes of the former Lihue sugar plantation. Kaua’i Backcountry Adventures has exclusive access to these hand-carved irrigation systems, which were built over 100 years ago to water sugar crops. Sit in a comfortable tube, put on a headlamp, and experience the refreshing flowing waters originating from Mount Waialeale, all while being surrounded by remarkably green tropical backcountry. Don’t forget a waterproof camera, because this tour runs through one of the most picturesque secluded areas of Kaua’i. If you’re in the mood to take morning walks in the sand between palm trees and waves, the Kòa Kea Hotel and Resort at Poipu Beach on the South Shore is a boutique property to

consider. Both humans and endangered monk seals bake under the sun in the tradewind breeze, surrounded by an intoxicating floral scent that seems to follow you wherever you are on this island. The soft rustle of palm leaves and happy bird songs set the scene for couples to fall easily into blissful relaxation. Order the soufflé pancakes and POG (pineapple orange guava) juice for breakfast- you will not be disappointed. Should you want to wander outside of the property for a local dining adventure, the South Shore is lucky enough to be home to visionary chef Roy Yamaguchi’s Eating House 1849, where the juxtaposition of tropical views and slick industrial-inspired décor is as visually impactful as the combination of local ingredients and haute cuisine plated within its kitchen. After dinner, be sure to take a romantic stroll under the stars along the promenade of Kukui’ula. With talented buskers around every corner, this outdoor shopping district is defined by its attention to detail, with free valet service, lantern-filled banana trees, roaming hula dancers, and lively bars and restaurants setting an energetic but cozy atmosphere. Upon leaving Kaua’i, it is certain that the happy locals, turquoise surf, and breathtaking skies will have you reminiscing fondly. Mother Nature took her time with this island, and hidden within the exquisite natural beauty lies some of the world’s best customizable accommodations and attractions. Whether visiting for a week or staying for a lifetime, Kaua’i is the perfect place to create your most meaningful memories.

ollywood’s glamorous Dame Elizabeth “Liz” Taylor was married eight times -two were to the love of her life, Richard Burton. Meeting in 1963 on the set of Cleopatra, Hollywood’s $44 million dollar budget movie, the most infamous outcome from the film was the love and marriage of the two stars. Growing up with her stage mother pressuring her into the film industry, Taylor did not have dreams of becoming an film star. As a successful child actor, Taylor’s pivotal performance into adult roles came at the young age of 17 in George Stevens’ A Place in the Sun. At the time of meeting Burton during the filming of Cleopatra, Taylor was the highest paid actor in Hollywood. When Welsh baritone-voiced actor, Burton locked eyes with Taylor it was instant infatuation. Unlike Taylor, Burton took acting extremely seriously from a young age and after graduating from Oxford University, he made his very first appearance on stage in the 1940s establishing himself as a Shakespearean actor at the young age of 18. Starring in his major role Hamlet in 1964, Burton showcased his memorable voice that exuberates power, clarity, immaculate enunciation and mastery of the spoken word.

Hollywood romance of the ages was brought into the spotlight during the filming of Cleopatra with Taylor, playing the title role acting alongside Burton, who played her lover, Mark Antony. The off-screen romance grew into a scandal that resulted in Taylor and Burton divorcing their current spouses to embark on their passionate and tumultuous relationship. They wed in 1964 and soon after adopted a daughter, Maria. The mad love between Taylor and Burton was undeniable and made headlines around the world making them the hottest properties in the world of Hollywood films. The couple soon co-starred with one another in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf in 1966, from which Taylor received her second Academy Award. The power couple appeared in numerous box office hits throughout the decade and despite their other multiple past partners, this rocky relationship seemed as if it would somehow survive. Possibly due to distraction, Burton often did his most memorable performances without Taylor by his side such as Becket, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold and in 1968, starring alongside Clint Eastwood in Where Eagles Dare.

HOLIDAY ISSUE 2015
While the on-screen romance seemed to continue, the whirlwind of passion and affairs off-screen did as well. In 1974, Taylor ran out of patience with Burton’s many affairs, the couple divorced. However, in October 1975, they remarried and then divorced a second time in July 1976 when Burton asked his then lover, model Suzy Hunt to marry him. Burton passed away in 1984 from a cerebral hemorrhage while living in his home in Switzerland. With the sudden death occurring only days away from starting to shoot the sequel to Wild Geese where Burton would return as starring role, the film was dedicated to Burton’s memory. Avidly known for her lavishly glam lifestyle, stunning beauty and piercing eyes, Taylor continued to inspire others with philanthropic ventures during her complicated personal life. Taylor was an advocate for HIV and AIDS programs which led her to co-found the American Foundation for AIDS research in 1985, raising over $200 million for AIDS research. Brains and beauty, Taylor received the Presidential Citizens Medal,
the Legion of Honour, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute. Amongst Taylor’s greatest accomplishments is being titled seventh on the list of “Greatest American Screen Legends”, being appointed DBE in 2000, receiving six Academy Award nominations, for which she won twice for Best Actress. Taylor said farewell to the film industry with her last theatrical film in 1994 – The Flintstones. Appearing on TV programs, TV series and animated series,Taylor spent her remaining days in her homes in Bel Air, California, Gstaad, Switzerland and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where Burton had purchased Casa Kimberley for the two to live in while filming The Night of the Iguana. Outliving the love of her life might have been a struggle, but Taylor continued inspiring others until the day she passed from heart failure in 2001 at 79. This iconic couple embodies the true glamour of Hollywood’s golden age with hardships and romance in the spotlight for the world to see.

ACCESSORY WALL CRYSTAL STATEMENTS by Sylvia Tennant | fashion columnist
Crystal jewellery has held several roles over the course of history.

rom the ancient Egyptians who wore talismans and amulets made of various quartz for their protective properties to the lavishness of the Renaissance period when mineral specimens suggested not only rank but the expansion of global trade, the fascination with precious and semiprecious stones continues to this very day. Currently, jewellery design is heavily laden with crystals of all sorts. This ongoing trend has manifested in both minimalistic and bold statement designs, of which either is appropriate this holiday season. As a jewellery designer, I’m drawn to crystals and their healing energies, and thrilled that their presence has now become mainstream within the world of accessories. What continuously fascinate me are the metaphysical properties of these stones, and my all-time pick is Labradorite. The first record of discovery of this crystal was in Labrador on the east coast of Canada in 1770.

Labradorite is a useful companion through change, imparting strength and perseverance while grounding personal energy. It is the perfect stone to wear to holiday parties (or anywhere that feels overwhelming), as it is a protection stone that banishes fears and insecurities. Prabal Gurung’s F/W 2015 footwear collection is inspired by a trip to the Adirondacks in Old Forge, New York. The collection has a distinctly American attitude with sporty glamour and moments of minimalist. The collection includes sandals, pumps and booties, featuring stiletto and pointy toes. The brand describes the colour palette as majestic beauty and serene. Done in soft shades of gray, orange, ivory, black, navy and crimson, the uppers present graceful lines of crossed straps, cut outs and patchwork, adding just the right amount of edge and urban appeal to an already beautifully luxurious brand.

CHRISTOPHER
BAILEY C
by Jennifer Costanzo | fashion columnist
hristopher Bailey was born in Yorkshire in the United Kingdom in 1971. He was surrounded by creativity from a young age, his father a carpenter and his mother a window dresser for the British brand Marks & Spencer. To this day, England’s countryside is something the fashion designer looks to not only as familial tradition but also as inspiration for his collections. He owns a cottage in the country and after a hectic week of designing in London, he withdraws to his second home to relax and refresh. Bailey attended the esteemed Royal College of Art in London for fashion design, graduating in 1994. While on a trip to London in 1993, Donna Karan visited the Royal College of Art and met Christopher Bailey. He presented his portfolio to her and she was in awe. Right then the designer asked him to come and work for her in New York City when he completed his Masters, and so he did. After graduating from the university, Bailey moved to New York City and was the womenswear designer at Donna Karan for two years. Following those two years with Donna Karan, Bailey moved to Milan and began designing for Gucci. Bailey worked as senior designer of womenswear at Gucci for five years, under the notable Tom Ford. Although he didn’t necessarily identify with the brand’s decadent and sexualized look, he was still inspired and was able to learn and grow as a designer. Bailey was especially intrigued by Tom Ford’s attention to detail in his designs and took this time as a learning experience when he decided to move back to the UK to begin working for Burberry.

T
homas Burberry founded Burberry in 1856; the brand was about protecting people from the elements. Without weather, Burberry would not exist, specifically those rainy London days so similar to the ones here on the West Coast. Thomas Burberry established his first shop in London in 1891 and with it grew the brand, specifically the trench coat that Burberry is most well known for. The trench coat, and Burberry as a brand itself, is for the young and the old, the country and the city, it is forever timeless and ageless. In 2001, when Bailey joined Burberry, he brought something new to the brand and reinvigorated the company’s design.
Although he is credited with transforming the fortunes of the company, in a way he is “the anti-designer.” He is an example of the modern leader, however, he does not fit that typical mold. Bailey is seen as an idealist and enthusiast, always keeping a low profile. He is often referred to as boyish, especially since he looks much younger than his actual age, however, he is anything but boyish. Bailey oversees men’s and women’s collections of the four clothing ranges Burberry has: Burberry Prorsum, Burberry London, Burberry Sport and Burberry Brit. Burberry also has a line of undergarments and accessories that include: eyewear, watches, perfume and leather goods.

Bailey also oversees all the ad campaigns and the brands image. His ad campaigns are very unique and intriguing, always including major celebrities mixed with models. He has always had an interest in music and his ad campaigns are a sign of this by often including musicians. His fashion shows also include an element of music, leaving the viewers in the front row not only viewing the season’s newest designs but also at a concert of sorts of an up and coming musician. He believes it’s important to champion new musicians and he is able to do so by incorporating them within his brand. Christopher Bailey is not only the designer of Burberry but in 2013 he became the company’s CEO. The objective of the company is to not only to be about fashion but also to be a fashion house that is not intimidating, but friendly, warm and embracing. Bailey has helped make British fashion exciting again, not by reinventing it but by inheriting a great British brand and making it relevant for the 21st century customer. It will forever be a brand that is about the British experience.

During the 1920’s the “modern woman” came to light with newfound individuality. As glamorous parties and dinner affairs gained popularity in the 1930’s, the cocktail dress became a staple in the modern woman’s wardrobe; catering to the hours between six and eight, filling the gap between afternoon tea and evening balls for high society.

ucked into the lush mountainous terrain and perched peacefully over the sparkling Pacific Ocean sits Xinalani Retreat. If you were boating by, and didn’t know what to look for, you’d probably miss it. In fact, there is no other way to reach Xinalani Resort, except by boat. The level of privacy here; the personal feeling of enveloped bliss are unlike any I have ever experienced. Pronounced she-nah-lah-knee, Xinalani is marketed as an exclusive yoga retreat centre just outside of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. This truly is an eco-resort, with open air guest accommodations (that are stunning), natural lighting, and minimal technological distractions. Yes, there is wi-fi in the main lobby area (if you must but please don’t) but they are quick to tell you their connectivity is terrible. Meals, which are included, are healthy and delicious. My favourite part of breakfast was the fresh juice smoothie of the day.

HOLIDAY ISSUE 2015
I am no yogi (that’s an understatement!), and several of the other guests I met had little or no yoga experience. One guest told me she was recovering from a divorce; another was getting away from the stress of her corporate job. I would describe Xinalani as a destination that commands your attention but isn’t demanding of your time; compelling you to focus on you and your wellbeing. It is a place to genuinely breathe, regroup and reclaim your personal balance (heck— maybe even your sanity). Along the way, you will connect with yourself, live off the grid without wanting for anything, enjoy the spa facilities, lounge on the gorgeous white beach, learn to meditate and if you choose, take part in yoga classes. This slice of personal paradise is a place far removed from my everyday life, and perhaps slightly outside my comfort zone. Chances are good that also rings true for you. That is precisely why Xinalani is a place that each of us needs… no, not needs—deserves. I know I did. Now it’s your turn.
GOOD TO KNOW: •
Eco Chic Suites: All 23 rooms are open air, palm thatched cabins that float on stilts, overlooking the ocean.
•
Stairway to Heaven: There are lots of stairs; 176 to be precise with 215 feet of elevation from the beach to the top jungle room. I used that walking time to enjoy the jungle and be alone with my thoughts.
•
Booking a Flight: Xinalani is only accessible by boat, and only during daylight hours. It is important to book your flight to arrive in Puerto Vallarta before 4:30pm and depart after 11:30am.
•
Pack Light: You truly do not need a lot here. Xinalani specifically tells you not to bring yoga props, laptop, hair appliances, soap or shampoo. Oh, and leave your stress at home too.
•
City Fix: If you feel the need to escape the solitude and go into Puerto Vallarta for a little shopping and sightseeing, there is a water tax ($20pp) that goes to and from Xinalani frequently.

FOOT FIXES for cold weather feet

by Gracie Andoque | beauty columnist
re your feet cold weather ready? Winter brings with it the rain, the cold, the the blustery weather. It’s the time our feet take to hibernation inside a pair of great winter boots, warm slippers or cozy knit socks. “Out of sight - out of mind” winter feet will lead to dry, rough skin and cracked heels. Far from sexy, right? Don’t let your feet go into total hibernation! Here’s how to keep them healthy beneath your winter layers:
PAMPER Immerse your feet in a tub of warm water to reduce swelling and soften skin for 15 minutes. Elevate the benefits by adding a teaspoon of whole milk and a few drops of honey.
EXFOLIATE This will slough away dead skin to reveal softer, rejuvenated and healthier feet. This will also help eliminate skin around the feet from drying out and cracking.
NOURISH Foot masks are known for its many benefits including sealing in moisture and the prevention of daily wear and tear of your feet.

Lifting the brow can take years off, which brings us to our next beauty hack - the yoga brow! Best to do this one without an audience. Place your finger right below your natural brow arch, pushing upwards towards your forehead. Now, using your forehead muscles, push down on your opposing finger and hold for 10 seconds. Release for 10, and repeat this series ten times (10-10-10). You will notice an immediate difference between yoga brow and non-yoga brow. Continue this daily for permanent results. BEST BEAUTY HACKS FOR 2015

W I N G E D T I P . The perfect winged liner can be a thing of beauty, but unless you have the steady hands of an artist writing on rice, you may get a wee bit frustrated. Don’t fret. This beauty hack will make your liquid liner job look like it was done by a pro. All you need is scotch tape. Grab a one inch strip of tape and stick it onto your hand a couple times to reduce stickiness, then place it underneath your bottom lashes at the outer corner of your eye, following your bottom lash line. Angle it towards your temple for the perfect wing. Draw the line and ‘Tada!’ Your perfect winged liner.
6 - D L I P S . We all want beautiful Kendall Jenner lips. Here is a safe try-at-home trick guaranteed to make your lips look more voluptuous in just minutes or your money back. Before applying any lipstick, rub a light amount of peppermint oil on your lips. Not only does it smell delicious but it also brings blood to the area, temporarily puffing up the lips. Next, grab your lip liner and do something your mother always told you never to do. Line outside the perimeter of your own lips, creating more lip square footage. Then grab a light lipstick and a dark lipstick, applying the lightest lipstick in the centre of the lips and the darker lipstick on the outside corners of the lips. Next, blend with a high shine gloss. The light in the middle will create a 3D … no wait …. 6D lip pout. Next, take a bronzer or contour colour and brush a slight amount right under the bottom lip creating the illusion of a shadow casting off those big kissers. Last but not least, dust a small amount of illuminating powder on your cupid’s bow and, ‘POW!’ Look out Scarlett Johansson.
4 5
M O M S T R O B I N G . With strobing/extreme highlighting and shine being all any makeup guru can talk about, a lot of you oilier complexioned ladies may be cringing at this new found trend. ‘Yikes! Won’t it make my face look even oilier? You’re probably thinking that just like high-waisted jeans, it’s just not for everyone. Well, I agree with the Mom jeans but everyone, and I mean everyone, can fall in love with strobing with this ONE little trick. Okay, so bee line it straight to your medicine cabinet and grab your mother’s old cure for your stomach ailments, Milk of Magnesia (MOM). Apply thinly all over the face with a makeup pad. This is not only one of the best primers on the market, leaving you slick free on the hottest of days, but it reduces oil production with prolonged use and is cheap! I always carry MOM in my kit, and it also comes in handy for a nervous stomach. Thanks MOM.
Y O U T H F U L B L U S H . Now besides throwing on a backpack and sporting pigtails, this hack is the next best thing for looking 12 again. All you need is blush, and the trick to picking the perfect blush colour for this technique is to pull your bottom lip down and find a blush that closest matches the colour of the inside of your bottom lip. Take a light blush brush and first place blush on the highest part of the apples on your cheeks. Now connect those two apples with a blush bridge across the nose. What you are trying to recreate is a light pinkness across the nose and cheeks where the sun would hit. If you look back at all those polaroids of you when you were little, you will see that exact light pink placement across your chubby cheeks and button nose. Mimicking this gives the illusion of a more youthful face. Trust me. You might even get ID’d. NICHEmagazine.ca
