PRELIMINARY PROCRESS

4

PROJECT OVERVIEW This existing hotel was built in Boston, Massachusetts in the 1950s and is in need of a top to bottom renovation. The area has been overdeveloped and lost commercial viability. We are in an attempt to bring a sense of life back into the area while also incorporating sustainable features to create a green enviornment. The Avalon will be a wonderful new addition to the area,

5

RESEARCH AND DEMOGRAPHICS The Avalon will be located in Boston, the capital of Massachuesetts.

Home to almost 700,000 residents

Sees almost 23 million visitors annually

Median household income is about $52,000

Third most densly populated city in the US

6

CONCEPT STATEMENT The concept for The Avalon was created by combining influences from Raphael and King Arthur. Raphael is an Italian painter and architect, best known for his Madonnas. King Arthur was a Britsh ruler in the fifth century, commonly known from his Knights at the Round Table and the legend of The Sword in the Stone. Taking elements from each of their time periods, we wanted to include feautures such as columns, crystal chandeliers, marble floors, solid woods, and rich colors. With a complimentary color scheme, including shades of green and red with gold accents.
