Zachary Edward “Zack Snyder (born March 1, 1966) is an American filmmaker, best known for his action and science fiction films. Snyder made his feature film debut with the 2004 remake of the horror film Dawn of the Dead. Since then, he has done a number of comic book and superhero films, including 300 (2007) and Watchmen (2009), as well as the Superman film that started the DC Extended Universe, Man of Steel (2013) and its follow-ups, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017). He also co-wrote the screenplays for 300, Sucker Punch and 300: Rise of an Empire.

Snyder often uses slowmotion in and out of the fight scenes in his films, which Amy Nicholson of BoxOffice magazine remarked separates the director from other filmmakers who make multiple cuts and close-ups during a fight. A minute-long shot from 300 shows King Leonidas slaughtering his enemies, the camera zooming in and out to emphasize each kill and move Leonidas makes. Snyder also has a complex use of color, often desaturating most of a shot except for a few vibrant subjects.

NARRATIVES
The winner of SHOWstudio’s first ever Fashion Film Award in collaboration with QIC Global Real Estate is Maksim Bashkaev, with his film Outlaw! Maksim Bashkaev is the co-founder and designer of the Russian fashion brand Outlaw Moscow. The main goal of Outlaw is to look into the unexplored life of ‘the outlaw people’ of Moscow. The film focuses on people who take the alternative route, combining the mixed cultural patterns of Empire and Soviet eras - they have few supporters in Russia. Their art is often misunderstood and oppressed by the majority, but their works are dedicated to fighting the isolation and representing ‘the other’ Russia: open, intellectual and free.

Nick Knight and stylist Katie Shillingford unite to celebrate key pieces from Comme des Garçons’ A/W 16 collection. Rei Kawakubo’s bubblegum pinks and architectural structures inform the shoot’s fantastical, piquant aesthetic. Whimsical make-up by Isamaya Ffrench adds to the effect. The results appear in print in AnOther Magazine’s A/W 16 issue and online here.

Bio & Artist statement: Sophie Lunn Sophie Lunn is a Fine Artist originally from Staffordshire, living in Leeds, who focuses on drawing in the expanded field. Having a keen interest in experiences of walking and new environments she creates work in an interdisciplinary field transitioning the narrative of the drawn line through movement. Her most recent work concerns perception and particularly the phenomenological perspective of directly experiencing the world, being in real time and space. All her work evolves directly from a continuous line drawing created from a daily walk where the movement of her body engineers linear motions, capturing her traces and mapping her body. Her work uses techniques such as layering, three-dimensional and tonal processes to challenge perceptions of line and space and to create a spatial dimension within surfaces to correspond to the act of walking though an environment. Limitless is a key consideration of her practice where line is infinite just like the world and that space forms a tensional area where the viewer is forced to look through and beyond. She tries to bring her experiences of walking through an environment back to the viewer by making work that creates travel and distance in the viewers mind. By using layers, she tries to allow the viewer to journey through the surface. She likes the opportunities but also challenges that line presents by testing abstraction, symbolism and transparency. She is constantly influenced by the oeuvre of artist GEGO in which her key inspiration is what GEGO called ‘space in between’, which is just as important as the line itself. Her practice deals with the juxtaposed connectivity of positive and negative and motion and stillness.
“My work has always been about experiencing environments, this directly reflects the experience of coming to university and having to get used to new surroundings and having to find my own way around a particular place.
My work communicates traces and marks of people that come and go in
surroundings everyday. The repetitive nature of my work symbolises routine and daily life and i feel my work is just a collective mapping of my daily movements”.

Alina Zamanova is an artist and a fashion illustrator who explores the gap between art and fashion and erases the boundaries between ugliness and beauty. Her art consists of traditional artworks/paintings to scribbles on fashion photographs or fashion clothing. Working at Alexander McQueen in 2014 made her works more professional and gothic oriented. Alina’s colourful and ugly illustrations are the representation of her own dreams and ideas and people who inspired her. Her experience collaborating with famous fashion houses, designers and photographers like Nick Knight , curator of SHOWstudio London, made her works move to another level and she continues to grow as an artist. Graduated in 2015 from the University of the Arts London she continues to explore the field of art and fashion illustration and launching her first debut Capsule Womenswear collection SS16/17.
