Cleveland is a city in the state of Ohio and is the county seat of Cuyahoga County, the most populous county in the state. The city is located in the northeastern portion of Ohio on the southern shore of Lake Erie. It was founded in 1796 near the mouth of the Cuyahoga River, and became a manufacturing center owing to its location on the lakeshore; as well as being connected to numerous canals and railroad lines.

The Warehouse District in Cleveland is one the former wholesale and commercial centers. The old Victorian district contained multiple warehouses of different users. Some of the warehouses that were contained within the Warehouse district were: marine suppliers, hardware distributors, small wholesale and retail establishments as well as major offices for iron, coal and the railroad industries. The area soon then became the heart of Cleveland and the Warehouse district than also became the residential section of the city. While the city was growing and more people were settling there the buildings started to grow and form and that’s when the Weddell House was developed. The Weddell house was the firs luxury hotel as well as offered office spaces, retail (stores), parlors and large double floor dining.

THE INTENT OF THE BEAUTY PETAL IS TO RECOGNIZE THE NEED FOR BEAUTY AS A PRECURSOR TO CARING ENOUGH TO PRESERVE, CONSERVE AND SERVE THE GREATER GOOD. THE NATURE OF BEAUTY IS TO APPEAL TO NOT ONLY THE EYE BUT THE BEHOLDERS. IT IS IMPORTANT FOR VISTORS, TENANTS AND BYPASSERS TO ENJOY A STORY THAT THE BUILDINGS ASTHETICS HAVE ON THE EXTERIOR AS WELL AS THE INTERIOR OF A BUILDING.

SCARCITY OF POTABLE WATER IS QUICKLY BECOMING A SERIOUS ISSUE AS MANY COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD FACE SEVERE SHORTAGES AND COMPROMISED WATER QUALITY. IT HAS BECOME OUR JOB TO REDEFINE THE TERM OF WATER WITHIN A BUILDING ESPECIALLY WASTE WATER. IN ORDER TO REDEFINE THIS TERM THE IDEA OF WASTE WATER NEEDS TO BE RECYCELED AS WELL AS REUSED. SUCH EXAMPLES OF WASTED WATER IS RAINFALL; WHICH COULD THEN BE USED IN TOLIETS AFTER A CYCLE OF FILTRATION.

MATERIALS

INTERACTION

THROUGHOUT, THE LIFE CYCLE OF BUILDING MATERIALS THEIR HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE OCCASIONS OF ACCOUNTED ILLNESS’, SQUANDERED EMBODIED ENERGY, POLLUTION, AND RESOURCE DEPLETION. THE IDEA OF THE HEARTFULLS BUILDING MATERIALS IS TO KEEP A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL AS WELL AS USING THESE MATERIALS TO CREATE ENERGY.

THE INTENT OF THE SITE PETAL IS TO CLEARLY ARTICULATE WHERE IT IS ACCEPTABLE FOR PEOPLE TO BUILD, HOW TO PROTECT AND RESTORE A PLACE ONCE IT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED, AND TO ENCOURAGE THE CREATION OF COMMUNITIES THAT ARE ONCE AGAIN BASED ON THE PEDESTRIAN RATHER THAN THE AUTOMOBILE. IT IS NOW TIME FOR PEDESTRIANS TO INTERACT IN AND OUT OF THE BUILDING USES THE RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO THEM.

Since Cleveland has the direct use of the canals, river, railroads and the lake, the warehouse district became the heart of the distribution and residency area. Some of the most promising and historical buildings come from this area. Most of those prime buildings are dining halls and fresh markets. These places were serviced by the incoming goods that came from the shipments by either water or land and was servicing the residents of the area.

As to the location of the proposed project development the location is also apart of the Warehouse District, the heart of Cleveland. With the ideas that are portrayed in the history and the development of Cleveland and the Warehouse district are the primary reasons for the proposed project location. The direct context of the site (West 6th and Saint Claire Street) is a nice urban area where the community is young and the residents know each other. There are a lot of restaurants as well as nightclubs for the young crowd. The thriving area wants to be young, sexy and modern. With this old historic district the building wants to blend in for the most part and then become a unique aspect to the entire district with its modern material and performance acting facades. With these different features and historic characteristics the project calls to be unique, classic and sexy.

HEART FULL

Cleveland’s economy has diversified sectors; mainly do to the location on which it resides. Some of the business’ in which Cleveland is the home of their headquarters include manufacturing, financial services, healthcare, and biomedical. Within these charters there are multiple branches that are scattered all over the state and some within the northeastern region itself.

THE IDEAS OF THE WAREHOUSE DISTRICT ARE CONCEPTS IN WHICH THIS PROJECT WISHES TO INSTILL IN THE COMMUNITY AS WELL AS THE BUILDING. THE IDEAS OF DINING, GROCERS AS WELL AS STORES FOR RETAIL ARE THE IDEAL IMAGES THE DISTRICT OFFERS AND THE IMAGES THAT WILL REFLECT IN THE BUILDINGS PROGRAM. THE CONCEPT OF PROGRAM IN WHICH THE BUILDING WILL PERFORM IS SOLELY BASED ON THE IDEA OF JOURNEY. FROM ENTRY TO ARRIVAL TO EXIT THERE IS A JOURNEY. THE PROGRAM WITHIN THE BUILDING IS TO BE A JOURNEY; FROM CHECK-IN (WAITING), TO SURGERY, TO RECOVERY AND THE NEW AFTER LIFE. SOME OF THE PIECES THAT WILL ENFORCE THIS JOURNEY ARE THE ACTIVE STAIRS THAT CONNECTS EACH FLOOR AND PROGRAM TO ONE ANOTHER. THE IDEA OF THE PROGRAMS AS WELL AS THE ACTIVITY WITHIN THE STAIR IS TO IMPOSE DEPENDABILITY FROM ONE PROGRAM TO ANOTHER. EACH FLOOR AND FLOOR PROGRAM IN SECTION RELY AND DEPEND ON ONE ANOTHER FOR JOURNEY PURPOSES AND THE NEW LIFE IN WHICH THEY WANT TO IN PART ON.

SUN, WIND, VENTILATION & WATER USING THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS THAT ARE IN CLEVELAND WILL ALLOW FOR THE BUILDING TO PERFORM USING THE NATURAL FACTORS. THESE FACTORS WILL AFFECT THE BUILDINGS GOALS OF COLLECTING DAYLIGHT AND DISTRIBUTING THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING. THE WIND WILL ALLOW FOR MOVEMENT ON THE BUILDINGS MOVING FACADE AS WELL AS HAVING NATURAL AIR FOR SPECIFIC USER GROUPS.

HEALTHY LVING/ LIFESTYLE CHANGES AFTER OVERCOMING SUCH DIFFICULT TIMES AND HAVING TO REINVENT ONES LIFE THE CLIENT WANTS THE BEST POSSIBLE OUTCOMES FOR THEIR CLIENTS. BY INTRODUCING STRATEGIES ON HOW TO GROW AND PRODUCE NATURAL HERBS, VEGETABLES AND FRUITS AS WELL AS LEARN HOW THOSE CROPS CAN BE USED INTO COOKING HEALTHY MEALS. ALONGSIDE EATING HEALTHY CLIENTS NEED TO HAVE ONE ON ONE TIME WITH COUNSELORS TO TALK ABOUT THEIR JOURNEYS, GOALS AND FEARS WHILE ALSO TAKING TIME FOR THEMSELVES AND MAKING INNER PEACE.

KINETIC WIND FACADE THE KINETIC FAÇADE IS NOT ONLY A PERFORMANCE FAÇADE THAT WILL HELP THE BUILDINGS EFFICIENCIES, AS WELL AS CREATE AND STORE ENERGY THAT WILL BE USED IN THE DIFFERENT USER SPACES. BESIDES ACTING AS A SOURCE OF CREATING ENERGY AND AN ELEVATION THE KINETIC FACADES ALSO IMPLEMENTS SHADE AND SHADOW ON AND INTO THE BUILDING. THE SHADOWS CREATED ON THE INTERIOR WILL MOVE AND DANCE MUCH LIKE THE OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING DOES. THE KINETIC FAÇADE WILL ALSO CREATE A WHISTLING TUNE; MUSIC WAS GENERALLY PLAYED ALONG THE STREETS AND GENERATES A FUN ATMOSPHERE FOR PEDESTRIANS.

THE CLIENT IS HEALTHY LIVING, A SPA RETREAT CENTER FOR CIVILIANS WHO HAVE OVERCOME HEART DIFFICULTIES. HEALTHY LIVING WISHES TO GIVE THOSE WHO HAVE OVERCOME THESE TOUGH TIMES A CHANCE TO CREATE A NEW LIFESTYLE, A HEALTHY LIFE IN WHICH THEY WILL LEARN NEW TECHNIQUES TO EATING RIGHT AND NEW WAYS OF FINDING THEMSELVES IN THE HIGH EFFICIENT ROOMS THE HEARTFULL HAS TO OFFER. EACH VISITOR AND CUSTOMER WILL HAVE A GREAT JOURNEY FROM THEIR ENTRY TO THEIR ARRIVAL. WITH A LOT OF NATURAL DAYLIGHTING, VERTICAL GARDENS FOR FRESH AIR QUALITY AND ACTIVE SPACES TO HELP CREATE HIGH ENERGY AND SERENITY. ALTHOUGH THE REQUIREMENTS WERE NOT MET BYT THE 2030 CHALLENGE THE BUILDING SUCEEDING IN REACHING THE 2005 TARGET. THE RESULTS STATED THAT EVERYONE IN OUR BUILDING WAS 100% COMFORTABLE DURING THE BUILDING FULL DAY. AS PER THE RESULTS WE ARE AWARE THAT THEIR ARE CHANGES THAT CAN OUR BOTH PHYISCALLY AND THEORETICALLY TO ALLOW OUR BUILDING TO MEET THE 2030 CHALLENGE.

Our structure consists of poured concrete and steel construction. The poured concrete can be found in the core and each fire stair. The core consists of elevator shafts, mechanical shafts, and restrooms. The structural steel can be found as beams, girders, columns, bracing, and moment frames throughout the building. The poured concrete is important to utilize because it is inexpensive and acts as sheer walls to bring a regular distribution of loads throughout the building.

The dark gray areas represent the tallest floor that requires structure. The lighter gray lines show the underlayed structure, which is the ground floor of the building. This structural grid can show how far the building sets back as the number of floors increase. Where there is a setback/cantilever in our building, we utilize transfer girders that take the weight of overhead/below structures and transfer it on a larger and longer girder. The use of these girders takes away the need for structural walls and creates a

This building column grid is a 4’x4’ structural column grid. The bay sizes of the structure directly correspond to the column grid because the length and width of the bay are both divisible by the 4’ in between each column. Because of this simple structure, the columns, beams, and girders throughout the building are consistent and spread out uniformly. The only portions of the building that have a difficult structure are the atrium, and where the building sets back.

BECAUSE OF THESE TWO ENERGY EFFICIENT SYSTEMS OF THIS ONE FACADE, WE ARE ABLE TO CREATE USABLE ENERGY AND CUT BACK ON THE BUILDINGS ENERGY USAGE.

ANOTHER BENEFIT TO THIS FACADE IS HOW IT GENERATES POWER THROUGH VIBRATION. SINCE THERE WILL ALWAYS BE WIND WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE WAREHOUSE DISTRICT IN DOWNTOWN CLEVELAND, THERE IS ALWAYS POTENTIAL TO COLLECT ENERGY. KINETIC FACADE SYSTEM

THIS KINETIC FACADE IS AN IMPORTANT PIECE TO OUR BUILDING. BESIDES IT’S AESTHETIC APPEAL, THIS FACADE IS VERY BENEFICIAL. THE SMALL WINDVIBRO PANELS HELP BRING THE STRONG SOUTHWEST WINDS ON THE CORNER OF THE BUILDING UP INTO THE WIND TURBINE ON THE ROOF. BECAUSE OF THIS, APPROXIMATELY 40% OF THE WIND THAT HITS THE SOUTHWEST CORNER CURLS UP AND FILTERS INTO THE TURBINE FOR POWER GENERATOR. THIS 40% IS LARGER THAN THE NORMAL 30% THAT HITS ABOVE ANY 2ND OR 3RD FLOOR.

WE WILL BE USING WATER CATCHMENT ON OUR ROOF, AND WILL USE THIS WATER THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING AS A GRAYWATER SYSTEM. AFTER SIZING CISTERNS AND FIGURING THE WATER SUPPLY LOAD FOR THE BUILDING, UTILIZING 3 CISTERNS AT 1,000 CUBICFEET WILL BE EFFICIENT FOR THE SIZE OF THE STRUCTURE. THESE CISTERNS WILL COLLECT WATER THAT WILL BE USED THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING IN RESTROOMS, OR ANYWHERE THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE POTABLE WATER.

OUR PLUMBING CHASE IS LOCATED IN BETWEEN OUR RESTROOMS ON EACH FLOOR. THIS KEEPS THE TRANSFER OF BLACK WATER CONSISTENT THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING. WE WILL BE RECEIVING THE MAJORITY OF OUR ELECTRICITY FROM THE CITY GRID, LABELED ON THE AXONOMETRIC DIAGRAM TO THE LEFT. THROUGH CALCULATION, IT WAS FOUND THAT THIS BUILDING WILL GENERATE 1842.7 KILOWATTS OF ENERGY LOADS. BECAUSE OF THIS LARGE LOAD, HARVESTING AND GENERATING A SEPARATE PORTION OF POWER FOR THIS BUILDING. AFTER SITE ANALYSIS AND RESEARCH, COLLECTING ENERGY THROUGH WIND TURBINES, AS WELL AS KINETIC ENERGY, WILL GENERATE A HEALTHY AMOUNT OF POWER FOR OUR BUILDING. THE KINETIC FACADE, SHOWN ABOVE, WILL BENEFIT THIS BUILDING TWO WAYS. FIRST, THIS DOUBLE FACADE WILL ACT AS A WIND COLLECTION, BRING THE HIGH VELOCITY WINDS FROM THE SOUTHWEST CORNER UP ONTO THE ROOF WHERE A WIND TURBINE WILL COLLECT AND CONVERT THE WIND INTO USABLE ENERGY. THIS PROCESS IS DONE BY THE SMALL VIBRO-WIND PANELS VIBRATING AND FORCING THE AIR UP THROUGH THE FRAMING MEMBERS, TO THE LOCATION OF THE TURBINE. THE SECOND WAY THIS FACADE WILL CREATE ENERGY IS BY VIBRATIONS MADE BY THE WIND. THE FRAMING MATERIAL IS STEEL THAT IS SURROUNDED BY PIEZOELECTRIC PLATES. THESE PLATES NATURALLY COLLECT ENERGY THROUGH PRESSURE, SUCH AS VIBRATION, WHICH CAN THEN BE CONVERTED INTO ELECTRICAL ENERGY. THESE FORMS OF ENERGY WILL NOT GENERATE ENOUGH POWER TO RUN OUR WHOLE BUILDING, BUT THEY WILL INCREASE THE EFFICIENCY, AS WELL AS LESSEN THE NEED FOR MORE ELECTRICAL USE WITHIN THE STRUCTURE.

PHILIPS ROTARIES TBS741 These lights are the most suitable for the Heart Cathetor Rooms. These are procedure rooms that must be as sterile as possible. These Philips lights provide cold mirror reflectors that are appropriate for health rooms such as these. There are small, recessed lights that will not be obtrusive to any operations performed. Also, in the case these rooms are not programmed this way in the future, these lights work in commercial, healthcare, and educational programs.

The BT Troffer series by GE is appropriate for the office spaces (counseling and recovery) because they are long lasting lights that are efficient and appear frameless. These lights are suitable for applications such as office, commercial and retail programs. Similar to the ET Series, these lights provide a uniform distribution of light throughout the space. Because of this, the work environment will benefit and become more productive with better lighting.

GE ECOLUX LINEAR FLUORESCENT Fluorescent lights are often used in interior garden settings. They work best with the double height garden and are less likely to kill the plants. They use a low amount of energy, so staying on for long periods of time to maintain the life of the garden, they don’t use too much energy in the long run.
