The Legendary Models Rendering by Marco De Fabianis Manferto Text by Antonio Frigo Although it is a young company, Porsche holds a special place in the heart of every car enthusiast. Not only for its performances and achievements in competitions, but also for that unmistakable aura of style, charm and understatement that is intrinsic in all the models - 911 in the lead - from the late 1940s to the present. The aim of this original editorial concept, consisting of a historical table book and a fold-out booklet, is to reconstruct the milestones of Porsche’s history, from the dream of the founder, Ferdinand, to the realization of the sporting success of the brand. However, a publication about Porsche necessarily needs an extensive descriptive part on standard models: that’s why in the foldout booklet are shown the 40 most representative models of the House of Zuffenhausen, from the first 356 to the 911 of the 991 series. Each model is enhanced with accurate high-resolution 3D renderings, realized by Marco De Fabianis Manferto, and detailed data sheets, edited by Andrea Rapelli, which will take the reader on a fascinating and exciting journey.

Street Art and Graffiti
20 Revolutionary Artists tell their Story Introduction by Chris Versteeg Text by Alessandra Mattanza In the last few decades, art has moved from the museums, collections, art galleries, to the street, conquering the cities. Visionary artists, gifted with breath-taking expressiveness, have converted the spaces where everyday life takes place – which are often featureless and abandoned – to a new palette, in a new way of expressing their ideas. Once again, art breaks the mold and speaks directly to a now-global audience, without using either intermediate passages or filters. Social themes, political criticism, and poetry materialize on a bridge, on the facade of an old building, between the railings of a courtyard. This volume leads to the discovery of the street-art phenomenon: it provides a detailed historical introduction by Chris Versteeg, expert in graphic design, that inquires into the origins and the sources of inspiration of this form of contemporary art, and it presents the main trends through which it is expressed, from graffiti to sticker art, from tagging to character, and including stencil art.

A Journey Back in Time through Maps Text by Kevin J. Brown In our modern day and age, when satellite imagery and GPS services like Google Maps, offer strikingly accurate images of the world, we can easily forget that for most of human history the world was an unknown tabula rasa on which cartographers, scientists, men of god, and kings imprinted their own dreams and ideals. This book explores changing perceptions of the world map through the centuries and across multiple vastly different cultures. We will juxtapose 18th century Buddhist cartography in Japan with European mercantile maps of the same period. We will travel with speculative cartographers and they argue in the scientific academies of Paris, London, and St. Petersburg over theories about what ‘must’ fill the great unknown. We will observe the emergence of the modern world view through the cartographic lens. We will see how, much like reading a long lost childhood diary, old maps are touching earnest reminders that our former selves’ knowledge and perception of the world are rich and limited at the same time.

The Art of Camouflage in Nature Text by Anna Levin - Photographs by Nature Picture Library
208 pages 38.5 x 27.5 cm 98,000 characters 18,150 words 100 color photographs Hardcover with jacket
One of the key words in Nature is “survive” and Nature, through its incessant process of evolution, has given an extraordinary tool to animals that need to make themselves “invisible”: camouflage. By means of this ability, an animal is in fact able to blend perfectly with the surrounding environment, so as not to be noticed by its prey or its predator. This book, illustrated with wonderful naturalistic photographs from the collection of the Nature Picture Library, one of the most prestigious international agencies, leads to the discovery of camouflage in Nature, by showing some of the most surprising and incredible examples in the world. The reader will discover how, in the freezing icy environment, polar animals have developed white fur, how some insects are able to resemble completely the leaves in the forest, or how an octopus is able to change the color of its skin according to the ocean floor. He/she will struggle to recognize the silhouette of a tiger lurking in vegetation or the threatening coils of a snake moving in foliage. Nature in its most hidden aspects is revealed in this exceptional collection of images. Anna Levin is a writer and editor with a special interest in people’s connections with the natural world, and the interface where words and pictures meet. A former Section Editor with BBC Wildlife Magazine, she has been freelance for over ten years, specialising in wildlife and natural history journalism for magazines, newspapers and environmental organisations, including 8 years as Contributing Editor with the magazine of the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh. In recent years she has been working in collaboration with renowned wildlife photographer Laurie Campbell, and they published the book Otters Return to the River (2014). Other publications include guides to the marine mammals of the Hebrides, the wildlife of Mull and official guidebooks for the Scottish Seabird Centre and the gardens of the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh (RBGE). She was Editor of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Portfolios 11 and 13 and co-edited The Living Collection, the story of RBGE. The original idea for this book came from the Nature Picture Library and all images are from its collection. The Nature Picture Library is one of the world’s finest sources of still and moving nature images, representing more than 500 leading photographers with worldwide coverage.

A Revolutionary Year in Photographs Text by Carlo Batà and Gianni Morelli
224 pages 24.2 X 28.5 cm 212,000 characters 37,000 words more than 100 photographs Hardcover
In history, 1968 is remembered as the year of political and social change, of global protest against the existing models of society: workers, students and ethnic minorities demanded reforms, justice and better living conditions. People with a wide range of opinions marched through the streets and filled the squares calling for the end of the war in Vietnam. The rebellion affected universities and factories, which became workshops for ideas to overthrow traditional values and the apparatus of the State, in Western societies and also in Eastern Europe. From Mexico to Japan, from France to Italy, there were disorders and repression by security forces. To the east of the Iron Curtain, the Prague Spring flowered and was then suffocated by Soviet tanks. But there is more to 1968: there were also space missions that in the following year would take humankind to the moon, shocking assassinations (Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King) and the release in movie theaters of epoch-making films like 2001: A Space Odyssey. In the meantime, the hippie culture and the Beat Generation reigned, and the wave of pacifism also conquered the theater: on Broadway there was the first night of the musical Hair, while music experienced one of its best moments with Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley, Joan Baez, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, and Jim Morrison. This book proposes exhaustively the images which best represent 1968, for every socio-cultural context. The best, most talented photographers of the time are given the task of covering, and condensing, a year full of events. For each photo, an explanatory text will allow the reader to put the event immortalized in context, and to know the essential aspects. Carlo Batà, author, editor, and freelance translator. He collaborates with various Italian newspapers and coordinates the project to catalog the image bank Mondadori Portfolio. Student of American Language, Culture and Economics, he has taught Spanish and Latin American Language and Literature at the Università degli Studi di Napoli L’Orientale and has published biographies of various politicians of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Gianni Morelli is the author of novels, short stories, non-fiction, textbooks and film synopses. He has worked in research institutes and written travel and geography books. He is one of the founding collaborators of the Italian ClupGuide series, and edited books in the series for more than twenty years. He has supervised several publications for White Star Publishers, including the volume The 100 Photographs that Changed the World.

Extraordinary Lives
The Most Influential People of Our Time Text by Carlo Batà, Roberto Mottadelli and Gianni Morelli Some men and women allowed history to take bigger, more decisive steps than others: scientists, researchers and explorers that were able to push the frontiers of human knowledge; brilliant inventors to whom we owe many comforts and objects that make our life simpler every day, from the radio to the Internet; artists, musicians and stylists, sublime interpreters of beauty and elegance; great industrialists and political leaders; characters with a strong spirituality that have become an example for millions of people and activists who fought relentlessly against prejudice and injustice. This books tells the stories of the great characters of the twentieth and the twenty-first centuries and it explains how and why, each in its own way, they contributed to changing the world. Behind the Camera
The Most Legendary Photographers of All Time Text by Marco Santini and Alessandro Gandolfi
224 pages 24.2 x 28.5 cm 212,000 characters 37,000 words more than 100 photographs Hardcover
This book presents the great masters of the twentieth and twenty-first century, gathering together the most significant photographs. It relates the story of men and women who, shot after shot, have captured the spirit of their time in an extraordinary way. It ranges from the war photos by Robert Capa, Larry Burrows, George Rodger to the photographic accounts by a pioneer like Margaret Bourke-White; from the black and white reportages by the Brazilian Sebastião Salgado to those in vivid colors by Steve McCurry, from the intense gazes of the subjects of Dorothea Lange in America’s darkest years to the strong human emotion of the photographs of Werner Bischof. From the incredible ability to seize the moment of Henri Cartier-Bresson, the father of photo journalism, and of Elliott Erwitt, to the reflections on religions (and their contradictions) of Abbas Attar. And then the portraits, from those of celebrities by Annie Leibovitz, to those of children and passers-by in Paris by Robert Doisneau, to the regality of the poses chosen by Cecil Beaton. On page after page, one discovers that these masters have not only documented history: by choosing subjects, techniques, and styles, they have also told their own stories. And one realizes that what makes a photographer truly great is not a single successful photo, but his/her continuous and constant ability to convey a vision in order to determine an approach to reality, and to remain faithful to an aesthetic which in many cases is inseparable from an ethic. Marco Santini has always traveled, written, and taken photographs. He has been a journalist for twenty years, and he specializes in travel reportages, in the food and wine sector and in interior design photography. He travels by every means possible over oceans, glaciers, and deserts. He collaborates with the most important tourism and specialist periodicals, in Italy and abroad. Author of guides and books, he has taught photography in the American School, and organized photographic exhibitions in Italy. Alessandro Gandolfi has been a photojournalist since 2001. After graduating in philosophy and attending journalism school, he worked as a reporter in the editorial departments of La Repubblica, in Milan and Rome. His photographic reportages have appeared in various publications in Italy and abroad and his photographs have been exhibited in international shows. He won two National Geographic Best Edit Awards (in 2010 and 2011) for two photo reportages which appeared in the Italian edition of National Geographic.

Sport Food
Tips and Recipes for Amateur Sports Performers Text and Photographs by Cinzia Trenchi For practicing a physical activity in the best way the choice of food is fundamental, even if it is only at an amateur level. At the table, too, there are rules that it is better to follow to avoid negative consequences. Scientific research is very sensitive to diet as a means of preventing illnesses; also in this case it is helpful, because it has demonstrated that insert certain foods in daily meals – for example, dried fruits, asparagus, lettuce, grapes, whole wheat pasta, chocolate – improve sporting performances. Often, however, sportsmen/women eat only a few foods, which they consider optimal in lightness and practicality, and forget that really one of the most important means to achieve well-being is variety. This volume, which suggests simple, healthy recipes to prepare, is not designed for professional athletes, but for all those who like to feel fit and to practice their favorite sports continuously and successfully. The volume is subdivided into chapters dedicated to breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks; it is provided with splendid photographs and information on foods and on the best systems of cooking, to achieve the ideal fitness for physical activity already at the table, using both taste and imagination. In this way, sport and a healthy diet will become the passport to health and fitness at any age.

Cats Flowers Dogs People HOW TO SKETCH... Text by Gaia Del Francia - Illustrations by Gabriele Genini How many times do you feel the need to create a sketch, to fix on paper a memory, an impression, a thought, something that struck your attention? The best way to avoid missing this opportunity is to have with you a practical and handy notebook, just like this one. But making a sketch, even a simple one, is not obvious or trivial, if you want a nice result. This original notebook series is specially designed to bring assistance to those who want to support their creativity with technique. A design expert introduces the main sketch techniques, revealing the basics, expedients and a few tricks to get a surprising result. The sample sketches that accompany the notebooks and adorn the pages also allow the reader to appreciate the methods used by design professionals so that he/she can witness a real “work in progress”. The four titles in the series regard dogs, cats, flowers and people. At the end, the readers will become truly draftsmen! Gaia Del Francia forty years old, born in Florence, “pragmatic dreamer”, traveler in exotic countries and in everyday life, hasn’t decided yet what she wants to be when she grows up. In her life she handles (or has handled) pots and pans, books and coffee machines, needle and thread, philosophical thoughts and photographic equipment, with equal interest and curiosity. Gabriele Genini was born in Switzerland in 1981. After attending the School of Comics in Milan from 1996 to 2000, he enrolled at the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, where he graduated with honors in 2006. Since 2001 he lives between Florence, where he has a small studio in the historic center, and Pracchia (Pistoia Apennines). He alternates his artistic work with teaching, organizing courses of drawing, cartoon, travel notebooks, watercolor and etching. In 2012 he founded with Gaia Del Francia and Sara Vettori the Cultural Association “47 Rosso”.

What can an apparently casual arrangement of hundreds of dots produce? The answer might be: exactly what your imagination can produce! This album, based on the famous “connect-the-dots” pastime, consists of a group of 40 illustrations that you can complete by tracing their outline and thus create the shape of a marvelous wild animal. By connecting the numbered dots of each illustration you will create a scene with an animal in its natural environment, which will become apparent as you continue the tracing procedure. There are no particular rules: you can use different colors and even different tools (pens, pencils, felt-tips) to achieve your goal. The thickness of the outline also depends on your personal creativity, the only exception being that you should use a fine tip when the dots are close together in order to render the figure satisfactorily. The starting point (marked with the number 1) is highlighted by a star so it will be easier to find. And you will have no trouble finding your way among the forest of numbers on the page. The consecutive numbers are placed near one another to make it easier to find the next passage. And the fun does not end here. Once you have finished the tracing you can color the illustration as you see fit in order to make the natural setting look even more lifelike. So now all you need to do is begin your adventure among wild animals through this entertaining, relaxing and rewarding hobby. Henu Mehtani, globally recognised for her creative talent is an author and entrepreneur, specializing in the art of activity books. Her bold experimental approach to her projects often challenges the convention of traditional books in both physical design and printed content. Creativity is contagious passion –As it was to Einstein, it is to Henu as well.
