The Atlas of Fairy Tales Flying over enchanted worlds Illustrations by Claudia Bordin Every fairy tales and every classic of children’s literature tells the story of a journey: that of Alice in Wonderland, of Dorothy in the kingdom of Oz, of Little Red Riding Hood in the wood, and of Pinocchio searching for Geppetto. What if these incredible adventures were represented as maps? If it were possible to fly, on the wings of imagination, over the enchanted kingdoms of children’s tales, one would gain an immediate total vision of each story, an incredible view to explore in great detail, to search for the protagonists of the events and the places where their stories unfold. This atlas of the kingdom of fairy tales transforms each tale in the volume into a map, which are made unique and inimitable by the tender and naive style of the illustrator Claudia Bordin. After graduating in illustration at IED in Milan, Claudia Bordin taught for five years Art and Image in primary schools, while devoting herself to drawing. Working with children and with their “worlds”, which expressed imagination in their thoughts and drawings, made her desire to release her imagination too. So now she works, as an illustrator, with some publishing houses and communication agencies and is also involved in custom-made wedding stationery. Five years ago she founded Mondo • Mombo: a logo, a stage name, but, above all, a virtual world where she uses her illustrative skills for new ideas and projects.

The series “Montessori, a world of achievements” is a collection of texts for children that contain playing activities aimed at encouraging the development of the main cognitive skills, such as the recognition of numbers, shapes and colors. They are not a random collection of leisure and recreational exercises, but they are designed and built according to a very specific educational and pedagogical approach: the principles of the Montessori Method. Thus, they don’t simply stimulate learning through play, but they enhance the cognitive development of the child, thanks to their structure based on a very specific theoretical basis, following the phases and learning ways provided by the educational and teaching theories of Maria Montessori. The structure of the activities suggested in the texts develops around some fundamental Montessori principles: - the content of the games follow a progressive complexity and present the learning object material using a quality at a time, to allow the child to become gradually familiar with it; - each activity respects the Montessori methods of 3 progressive stages of learning: 1. presentation of the material through senses (sight, hearing, and especially touch), 2. recognition of the learning object material, 3. reenactment of the material; - in each activity the child can directly control his mistakes, so that he can realize by himself the accuracy of his work, without needing constant adult intervention; - the adult has a role of assistance and introduction to the various activities, especially when they require verbal associations, but the child can play independently the games; - handling and practical experience have a central role in this type of games: there are several activities that require you to glue stickers, cut, draw and finger paint. Chiara Piroddi is a psychologist, an expert in Neuropsychology and specialises in psychotherapy with an evolutionary cognitive address. She graduated in Psychology from the University of Pavia (Italy) and continues to work there as aTeaching Assistant in Physiological Psychology and Professor in Neuropsychology Practice. She is the author and co-author of several scientific publications in the field of Neuropsychology. She lives between Barcelona and Milan, where she works as a developmental therapist. Text by Coder Kids - Illustrations by Valentina Figus “Don’t just buy a new videogame, make one. Don’t just download the latest app: help design it. Don’t just play on your phone: program it.” These were the words that President Barack Obama addressed to American students to encourage them to discover a new language, coding. With this book, kids can approach coding while having fun, using Scratch 2.0; this programming environment was created by the Lifelong Kindergarten group from the MIT Media Lab specifically to give to young creative talents the opportunity to create and develop games, animations and interactive stories, sharing them with a wide and lively community. The projects of the text are unique, thought to have a comprehensive overview of the main functions of Scratch and tested during coding laboratories, in school and extra school hours. Written for 8 to 12 year olds, this book wants to give everyone the opportunity to start from scratch. The projects are explained step by step and arranged with a progressive difficulty. After each proposal there are richer, more complex variants, which are also thoroughly explained, and challenges with solutions at the end of the book, to intrigue also grown ups. My Chicken is a T-Rex!

The Great Big Book of Animal Evolution Illustrations by Román García Mora As a rule, the concept of biological evolution is complex; it indicates the significant morphological, structural, and functional changes in living beings that take place over extremely long periods of time. However, thanks to this volume, even the youngest readers will be able to understand easily and to learn how the animals inhabiting our planet have changed over a thousand years. For example, they’ll learn how a curious attachment like the elephant’s trunk developed, why the toes of the horse have been transformed into hooves, and why we can state that chickens are really T-Rexes! Thanks to the combination of the scientific rigor necessary to explain such a complex subject with a funny, ironic style, the illustrations by Román García Mora, biologist and illustrator, will certainly win over, interest, and amuse young readers. Román García Mora drawn to both the world of art and that of science ever since he was a child, Román García Mora graduated in biology. After completing his studies, he decided to combine the two fields that fascinated him the most. He has worked for various scientific journals such as “PM Bilde Quo”, and currently collaborates with publishers and illustrated scientific publications, along with researchers from several Spanish institutions.

This new and original origami set is based on the principles of interactivity and play. It combines origami and storytelling to help children create their own paper toys and share stories. The kit is a combination of different activities that work as mnemonics to help the children remember how they- brought a simple piece of paper to life by folding it. Different parts of the story are written on each crease, and at the end they will be folded into the main character, Hoppity the Frog. During his adventure Hoppity will meet eight paper friends (a boat, a crane and a penguin), with whom he will face several challenges; by guiding the characters, the children too will take part in them. This book is an educational and learning based project aimed at helping the children improving their manual dexterity and also their communication abilities. Through stories and activities like coloring, puzzles and riddles it makes origami a fun and challenging task for kids. The kit includes a booklet which tells the adventures of the frog and contains the activities that have to be completed, and a series of colorful sheets of paper that can be folded following the visual and textual instructions given during the course of the story. They will have to dance, sing, or jump like the animal represented on the card, drawn with the ironic and irresistible style of Anna Láng. The first player to reach the finish line will be the winner, but all the participants will have the opportunity to learn with him/her the first words and verbs of the new language, effortlessly and with great laughs.
