A intenção de construir uma reflexão crítica sobre a produção arquitectónica moderna portuguesa e sua continuidade nos processos contemporâneos que envolvem a matéria e a actividade do arquitecto, são o ponto de partida para a construção deste portfólio fotográfico. Ao reunir uma série de imagens da situação actual de alguns edifícios, através de um olhar voltado substancialmente às respostas arquitectónicas no sector da habitação e outros usos, esta leitura procura perceber a herança do Movimento Moderno presente nos dias actuais através da escolha de quinze edifícios que se inauguraram no decorrer do século XX no grande Porto e em Lisboa. Sob a óptica de tentar perceber ou mesmo aproximar-se do que são ou foram estas arquitecturas, a busca por elementos que dão sentido à sua implantação, a sua relação com o lugar e com a época em que se envolvem constituem o partido principal deste trabalho, procurando estabelecer comparações e identificar referências projectuais que estes arquitectos irão deixar às gerações futuras. Como afirma Lynch, “ (...) as imagens ambientais são o resultado de um processo bilateral entre o observador e seu ambiente. Este último sugere especificidades e relações, e o observador - com grande capacidade de adaptação e à luz de seus próprios objectivos - selecciona, organiza e confere significado àquilo que vê.” Deste modo, são também destas contradições que o território e a arquitectura são feitos. The intention to build a critical reflection on the modern Portuguese architectural design and continuity in contemporary processes involving matter and the activity of architect, is the starting point for building this photographic portfolio. By bringing together a series of images of the current situation of some buildings, through an eye toward architectural responses substantially in the housing sector and other utilities, this interpretation seeks to understand the heritage of the Modern Movement in this current day through the choice of fiveteen buildings that were opened in the twentieth century in Oporto and Lisbon. From the perspective of trying to understand or even approaching what are or were these architectures, the search for elements that give meaning to their location, their relationship with the place and the time they engage are the party of this work , seeking to draw comparisons and identify references projective these architects will leave to future generations. As Lynch says, “(...) environmental images are the result of a bilateral process between the observer and its environment. The latter suggests specificities and relationships, and the observer - with great adaptability and in light of its own objectives - selects, organizes and gives meaning to what we see. “Thus, these contradictions are also the territory and architecture are made.
