EDITOR'S LETTER
I love noise. I'm a Clark man and a bona fide hoodrat so I'm loud just because it's Tuesday. I live in the city that never sleeps and while the occasional much needed silent train ride is interrupted by an unwanted SHOW TIME performance, I embrace the sounds of the city. The music blasting through portable speakers, the new yorkers with no inside voice, car horns honking, tourist chatter, crowd raucous, it's a key component of the hustle and bustle energy that you can only find in New York City. In a shut down Covid-19 big apple the city doesn't have much to say. We've covered our mouths with mask, bunkered down indoors and literally silenced the city. The sounds that fueled the city are all but gone until the clock strikes seven and the city eruption in noises. Horns honk, hands clap, new yorkers hand from their windows whistling, chanting and banging on pots and pans as daily two minute citywide ovation cheers on essential workers working on the front lines during the pandemic. That two minutes of applause made me reflect on the noise Kolor could make during this time. With love & respect, Nigel Isaiah

It all happened so fast. On February 26th Ammar and I were shooting content for the this spring issue. Thinking back, at the time I don't think we had a conversation about "The Rona" on set. Three weeks later New York's Governor Andrew Cuomo was shutting the city down, closing all non-essential business and temporarily derailing intended plans for a possible celebrity cover and in studio shoots. A small L compared to the over 33 million Americans who've lost their jobs during the pandemic, my sister being one of them. The shut down sucking the life out of the big apple killed my creativity but that doesn't compare to millions of Americans mourning over 90,000 Coronavirus deaths. More important than dripping in designers and copping the latest heat is your health. MASK ON MASK OFF?
New York, as well as the rest of these United States finds itself in an otherworldly predicament. Because unlike a nightmare inducing horror flick, the scenes in this movie can be found in a Plant Earth documentary with Sir David Attenborough where people living in eastern cultures live, work and play wearing face masks to protect from pollution and infections daily. Stateside, we've always embraced the fresh air, making our way outside "raw dog" (if you will) until April 17th. NY's Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order mandating that New York residents must wear a face mask in places of business and where your can't practice social distancing outside. Step outside now and the new normal is N95s, medical and homemade masks. Their defenses against small particles varies --N95s being the most effective-- but any covering is better than no covering.
