It brings together some 300 documents, many of them hitherto unpublished. Bowler hat, toothbrush moustache, a jacket too tight for him and oversized baggy trousers, worn-out shoes and a bendy cane. Further description unnecessary; it’s Chaplin’s Little Tramp. But how was this character created? Why was he and is he still so popular? How was Chaplin able to transform a star of cane-waving, slapstick film into a universal icon, an emblem of the human condition in a period of huge technical transformation, social change and political instability? Charles Chaplin’s significance in 20th century film is not limited to his stage character and its contribution to cinema. A virtuoso pantomime actor, the director of such universally known films as The Gold Rush, Modern Times, and The Great Dictator and composer of their musical scores, Charles Spencer Chaplin (1889-1977) became one of the symbols of the artistic avant-garde. He incorporated social issues into his creations and played a leading role in public life, due largely to his non-conformist positions and the persecution he suffered in the United States during the cold war. Behind Chaplin’s enormous popularity is hidden an extraordinary artistic talent, a huge facility for communication and the capability of modelling his public personality in line with audiovisual mediums: film, photography and graphic journalism. Under the title Chaplin in Pictures, ”la Caixa” Community Projects is inaugurating in CaixaForum Barcelona the first major exhibition based on family archives to be presented in Spain of the figure of Charles Chaplin and his character, The Little Tramp.

Through the combination of some 300 studio photographs, posters and magazines, documents and film extracts the exhibition offers a global vision 20 December 2007 to 27 April 2008 of the artist and his career. NO APTO PARA PLUMOFÓBICOS BUT NOT FOR BUTTERFLY-FOBICS Si con mi ya tan habitual afán de protagonismo en este escenario de la noche barcelonesa, no aprovecho la superoportunidad que jefe-cristian me ha brindado de dedicar al menos 400 o 500 palabras una vez al mes de forma desinteresada (ja,ja,ja...) para criticarnos a todas (y lo digo con “nos” porque me río de mí mismo la primera)... no me lo perdonaría/is/”is” nunca ... Pero desestimad, que eso no ocurrirá, no quiero que nadie sufra, y menos yo, ...¿Quién? ...¿Yo? ...Más, ...Y ¿por qué yo?... ¡¡¡ Sufrir !!!... Lo haré,... ¡Me aprovecharé todo lo que pueda! Y cómo pienso hacerlo ...! ¿Y qué? ¿Lo haré? ... Os preguntaréis ... Pues ni yo mismo lo tengo claro ... Como siempre ... Es normal en mí, lo he convertido en un auténtico arte :”estoy en ello” (a mi madre le saca de quicio. Preguntadle, si queréis...), ... Yo ya estoy acostumbrado, y vosotros espero que pronto también, por vuestro bien... Pero bueno... ¿Qué haré?... Improvisaré, para variar... O... Ya lo haré mañana que hay tiempo ...Y ahora ¿qué hago? Pienso en voz alta... O... ¿Sueño despierto?... Desvarío ... No pasa nada, es algo a lo que desde niño siempre he sido propenso... Y ahora con lo que fumo, bebo y no sé qué más cosas que ocurren cada vez que salgo... Nunca tengo claro dónde termina la realidad y comienza mi fantasía... Todo ha tomado una dimensión mágica ... Y si con la magia hemos topado es que al huerto de alguna forma os he llevado porque ya estamos entrando en algunos de mis temas favoritos... (Como quien no quiere la cosa) ... La magia, el embrujo y el duende ... El realismo mágico ......Las otras dimensiones y las mansiones (temazo: investigar casas es mi deporte favorito (tothom ho sap), sin abrir cajones, “of course”, que ninguna piense que soy tan hortera), ... Las leyendas, los ritos, los mitos ... Y muchas cosas mas ... Más aquí en barcelona, si hablamos de leyendas, son las leyendas urbanas... ¡Creéis que no las hay!... Pues para muestra un botón: ana de lokotrón: quien sino ella, que super-trayectoria:y a travès

de más de una década, y con tantas cosas que se han contado, exagerado e inventado ... Pero la verdad es que está guapísima, que es una gran empresaria y un superejemplo para las de su generación,... Y yo me quito el sombrero y la admiro un montón... ¿Y más mito que lokotrón, su sesión?: Especialmente lo que ella misma denomina un “lokotron de colegueo”... Alli me encontrareis todos los domingos que pueda escaparme, supercocido por supuesto, entre la peña más auténtica que queda en barcelona, “a mi puta bola”, y con un musicón ... Soy superfrankesteiniano: “con la cabeza el cielo y los pies en el suelo”, (por decirlo de forma elegante) ... Ya os lo seguiré contando, que es domingo y llego tarde ... If with my already habitual protagonistic zeal in the barcelona night life , i don´t take advantage of the amazing opportunity that chief-cristian has provided for me to dedicate at least 400 or 500 words once a month in disinterested form (ha, ha, ha..) To criticize all of us (and i use “us” because i am first laughing at myself)... I will never forgive myself... But no worries, it will not happen, i do not want anybody to suffer, neither me... Like always... It is normal for me, i have turned it into an authentic art: “i am in it” (that drives my mother mad. Ask her, if you want...)... I ´m already used to it, and i wish you will be soon, for your well-being... Well ok ... What will i do?... I will improvise, to mix it up... Or...I will do it tomorrow, i have more time ... And now, what do i do? I think loudly... Or... I daydream?... I am delirious... It doesn´t matter, it is something that i have been inclined to do since childhood... And now with all that i smoke, drink and more, things that happen whenever i go out... I never know where reality ends and my fantasy begins... Everything has taken on a magical dimension... And if we are speaking of the magic meaning that i “took you home,” we are entering into some of my favorite topics... The magic, the spell and the goblin... The magic realism ...... Other dimensions and meanings (topic: to investigate homes of people is my favorite sport (everybody knows that), without opening the drawers, of course, don`t think that i´m so cheesy) the legends, the rites, the myths... And many other things... Here in barcelona, if we speak of urban legends... Do you think that we don´t have any?... Here is a sample: ana of lokotrón: just her, with all this experience: after more than a decade, and with all the exaggerated things that people say... But the truth is that she is beautiful, that she is a fantastic businesswoman and an amazing example for her generation... I take my hat off and admire her a lot... There you will find me every sunday that i can escape, certainly …., Between the most authentic people...In my own world and with a very good music...
