Welcome to Ibiza & Formentera Operation What is it? Our hostesses will ask all the passengers waiting for their luggage if they want to participate in our competition so they can win real prices. Those who agree must provide their personal data, such as mobile number, address and e-mail. We will give them a welcome kit with a N&D magazine (including the Terms and Conditions of the competition) and a special scratch card .They can win many prizes like a return ticket to Formentera with Trasmapi Balearia, free tickets for different clubs such as Eden, Space, Amnesia, Privilege, Es Paradis, a dinner in one the best restaurants of the islands and a bonus to rent a car(BK Rent a Car). September has come: this is the month of the goodbyes, the last days of holidays, the coming back to the daily life, but above all this is the month of the people of the island. If you work or live here you know what I’m talking about. Finally, the game is done, people are more relaxed and they can enjoy the island. One more year, Night&Day wants to thank you for all your support and affection. It has been an intense summer and it seems it has passed in a flash. This issue is dedicated to you, to the people from the island, because you are very important for us. Cuéntanos cómo empezaste a interesarte por la música: Durante mi infancia, mis tías, que son como mis hermanas, escuchaban Erasure, Depeche Mode,The Cure, New Order, etc. y me inculcaron esa pasión por la música. ¿Qué crees que es lo más característico de Wally Lopez?: Como persona la cercanía con la gente. Where are you from?: Durban, along the East coast of South Africa. How old are you?: 28 but still feel 21. Explain to us your relation with Ibiza: The nature is what I connect with mentally, physically and emotionally. At which age did you start playing?: As soon as I ditched the blackbelt in martial arts I bought a pair of Technics, so perhaps I was 18 years old. Where in the world do you feel at home?: I could easily say Ibiza, it has the same quality of life as back home in South Africa. A dream to come true: Having a state of the art music studio in a luxurious villa in the top of the mountains in Ibiza overlooking the ocean. Accompanied by as many animals I can find along the way. How would you explain your sound?: I like to keep it as organic as possible using native influences, with real sounding instruments and percussions. I tend to naturally express my African roots through house and techno. Where on the island have you inflicted this sound of yours?: I have had the opportunity to play some of the best locations on the island namely The Zoo and one of my personal favorites Underground. As well as most of the credible beach clubs such as Ushuaia and Sands. Where can we keep following you on the island this summer?: At some of the greatest and exclusive villa parties all over the island, In the name of music. Mi nombre es Ibán Mendoza, ya me presenté a los lectores de Night&Day el pasado año y en esta ocasión voy a dar mi opinión sobre los horarios de los clubes y de los cierres de las “fiestas privadas” en villas. Tras ser residente durante tres años de “Lucifer”, mítico “after hour” de Ibiza, y trabajar para el público matinal, llegué a la conclusión que la gente necesitaba locales que abrieran por la mañana donde poder bailar y terminar una fiesta con otra fiesta, o empezar un día desayunando y yendo a bailar. ¿Acaso le hacíamos daño a alguien? ¿Tanto molestábamos? Yo creo que no, pero últimamente se ha puesto de moda eso de prohibir, esa doble moral que caracteriza la Ibiza de los últimos años. Sinceramente no tengo ni idea de leyes ni de política, y la verdad es que nunca me han interesado, pero ¿alguien puede explicarme el motivo por el que no hay unos horarios regulados en los que hayan lugares donde bailar de día? Pasados ya dos años del inicio de la ley contra los “after hours” y hartos de tener que irnos a casa a las seis de la mañana, hemos empezado a reunirnos en villas para hacer fiestas “privadas” en las que no conozco ningún caso de enfrentamientos con vecinos o problemas importantes relacionados con la

fiesta en sí, sólo gente que se reúne en una villa, normalmente bastante apartada de las zonas urbanas para no molestar a nadie, con una seguridad privada y unas normas de comportamento. Ahora también les ha dado por perseguirlas, si en países europeos más vanguardistas que España permiten que hayan locales de ocio diurnos, ¿por qué no aquí? Bueno, tampoco espero que este artículo vaya a cambiar nada pero me hago eco del pensamiento de muchísima gente... más de la que os pensáis. ¡QUEREMOS BAILAR DE DIA!

My name is Ibán Mendoza, last year I introduced myself to the readers of Night&Day and this time I will give you my opinion on the clubs’ closing hours and the closure of private parties in villas. After being a DJ resident for three years at “Lucifer”, a mythical Ibiza after hour party, and working for the morning public, I can say that people need morning clubs where they can dance and end up a party starting

another one, or begin the day having breakfast and going clubbing. Was this hurmful or so annoying? I don’t think so, although lately it is common to forbid everything and during the last years Ibiza has been characterized by a double morality. Honestly, I have no idea of laws or politics, I was never interested in them, but I would like to know why there are no regulated timetables and clubs where people can dance during the day. After two years from the law against after hour parties and tired of going back home at 6am in the morning, we have started to make private parties in villas. Here there are no clashes among neighbors or serious problems related to the party. Here you can find people meeting in a villa, usually quite isolated from urban areas in order to not disturb anyone, with a private security and some standards of behavior. Now this kind of parties are also persecuted. Why is it so while morning clubs are allowed in the most avant-garde European countries? Well, I don’t think this article will change anything but I echo the thoughts of many people... more than you can imagine. WE WANT TO DANCE DURING THE DAY!

Estilo simple en la arquitectura ibicenca

La arquitectura de Ibiza es sencilla, simple y blanca. Este lugar de culto se utilizaba en la antigüedad como refugio contra los enemigos. La simplicidad de la construcción es un elemento característico de la arquitectura de Ibiza, la mayoría de las iglesias se componen de una sola pieza: la torre del campanario. Estos edificios de piedra son a veces imprecisos, con una única nave con ventanas y sin decoración a excepción de una puerta o una cruz de madera. Una de las iglesias más sugestivas es la que está dedicada al culto de San Carlos en Santa Eulalia de Riu. La construcción de esta iglesia, que no servía para defenderse, fue ordenada en 1785 por el obispo Manuel Abad de la Sierra. La estructura interior es la de un elegante pórtico de tres arcos y con el techo de enebro. El interior de la nave está dividido en cinco secciones, con capillas laterales y una capilla profunda llamada “honda”. El edificio tiene forma rectangular construida con piedra arenisca y piedra caliza blanca, lo que da un aspecto cándido y esencial. La arquitectura popular de Ibiza se determina por

la simplicidad de sus elementos. La arquitectura civil es la que se desarrolló con el sistema de vigilancia marítima, es por esto que se encuentran torres fortificadas tanto en la costa como en el interior de la isla. Notable por su imponente presencia la Torre d’en Rovira o Torre de Comte y también la agrupación de Bolafia. La arquitectura urbana de las mansiones señoriales sigue conservando su sobriedad, característica común de estos lugares. Los edificios blancos predominan en el territorio y es por eso que a Ibiza se le llama también la “isla blanca “. En la zona de Dalt Vila, el casco antiguo, podemos ver majestuosos y a la vez esenciales palacios de la nobleza de la Edad Media y el Renacimiento, adornados por algunas imponentes columnas blancas. Los molinos de agua y de viento son numerosos en las islas Pitiusas y se utilizan para el cultivo de los campos y moler la harina. La sencillez, la pureza y la historia de la arquitectura de este pequeño rincón de paraíso son conocidas por su carácter espectacular y por ser un precioso patrimonio de la humanidad.

The Ibiza architecture is simple, plain and white. This place of worship was used in former times as a refuge against the enemies.The simplicity of the construction is the Ibiza architecture’s characteristic element; most of the churches are made of a unique piece: the bell tower. These stone buildings, which are sometimes imprecise, have just one nave with windows and without any decoration except from a door or a wooden cross. One of the most suggestive churches is the one dedicated to Saint Charles in Santa Eulalia de Riu. The construction of this church, which was not for defense, was ordered in 1785 by the bishop Manuel Abad de la Sierra. The interior structure is like an elegant porch with three arches and with a juniper wood ceiling. The building is rectangular and made of sandstone and white limestone which cause a candid and essential look. The Ibiza popular architecture is characterized

by the simplicity of its elements. The Ibiza civil architecture developed with the surveillance marine system, that’s why we can find fortified towers along the coast and inside the island. The Torre d’en Rovira or Torre de Comte is notable for its impressive presence, just like the Bolafia group of towers. The Ibiza urban architecture of the stately homes keeps maintaining its sobriety, a common feature in this place. The white buildings prevail in this territory and that’s why Ibiza is also called the “white island “. At Dalt Vila, the old quarter, we can see majestic but at the same time essential palaces which used to belong to the nobility during the Middle Age and the Renaissance, decorated with some impressive white columns. There are many waterwheels and windmills in the Pitiusas islands and are used to cultivate the fields and grind the wheat. The architecture of this little paradise is simple, pure and historic, also known for its spectacular character and for being a precious human heritage.

Ambos vienen del mundo del teatro, danza y arte/ diseño pero de distintas zonas del mundo. Betty es medio alemana y medio austriaca y Max viene del “fin del mundo!”, Nueva Zelanda. La magia de Ibiza los unió en 2004, y a partir de ese momento han navegado viento en popa, evolucionando continuamente y expandiéndose. Se les conoce sobre todo por su vestuario y estilo. Max Flame and Betty Bauer have been, for the most part of the last decade, making quite a name for themselves as performers and personajes in many of the most interesting and exclusive parties in Ibiza, and around the world. Both come from a background of theatre, dance and art/design, but from different ends of the globe. Betty is a GermanAustrian Mix, and Max is from “el fin del mundo!”, New Zealand. Ibiza magic brought them together in 2004, and from that moment on they´ve gone from strength to strength, constantly evolving and expanding. One of the things they are particularly known for is their costuming and style. Apart

from producing an amazing amount of costumes every winter for the up-coming summer-season in Ibiza, both have their own collections of clothes, jewelry, and accessories: Max (max-mahoney.com) and Betty (zoe-fashion-ibiza.com). So far this life art concept has brought them to the far reaches of places such as Casablanca, Bali, Mexico City, Delhi, Bangkok, Berlin, Los Angeles and many more. Dejó Noruega a la edad de 19 años, para irse a los Estados Unidos y otros países como Italia, Francia y finalmente Barcelona, donde reside desde hace ya 10 años. Auxiliar de vuelo de AirFrance por más de 13 años, lo que le ha permitido entablar amistades alrededor del mundo. ¿Cómo empiezas en la música?: Viajando por el mundo en ciudades como N.Y., Tokio, Chicago y Berlín, fui haciéndome con una colección de buena música y sobre todo con la ayuda de amigos como Peter Armster y Michael Weigand, los cuales tenían una distribuidora de vinilo justo al lado de mi casa, en la playa de Castelldefells (Barcelona). Al cabo de un año ya estaba

pinchando en los mejores clubes de Barcelona. Define tu estilo: Hago música electrónica underground, un estilo que desarrollé con la ayuda de uno de mis mejores amigos, Albert Tió, el cual le ofreció la residencia por varios años de los famosos clubes La Terrraza y Club Fellini. MIRUS LOEWE FLIES HIGH He was born in Bergen, Norway, in 1974, of a Norwegian mother and a Lebanese father. He left Norway when he was 19 to go to the United States and other places like Italy, France and finally Barcelona, where has lived since 10 years. He has been an AirFrance flight attendant for over 13 years, which allowed him to make friends around the world. How did you start in music?: Traveling around the world, to cities like N.Y., Tokio, Chicago and Berlin I started to collect good music and especially thanks to the help of some friends like Peter Armster and Michael Weigand, who had a vinyl distribution company next to my house, on the beach of Castelldefells (Barcelona).

After a year I was DJind at the best clubs of Barcelona. Define your style: I play underground electronic music, a style which I have developed with one of my best friends, Albert Tió, who offered me a residency at the famous clubs La Terrraza and Club Fellini for several years. Tell me about your label: Together with a good friend of mine, Jaime Fiorito, I started to make parties at Blue Marlyn (Ibiza), which ended up in the label INDIGO RAW, with which we have produced releases that have been played by great artists such as Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox and Luciano. We have our own studio in the old town of Barcelona.

Tell me your main projects for the future: I want to gather all the local talents of Barcelona. MAKELA Nombre: Makela Ibrahim ¿De dónde eres?: De Holanda, Ámsterdam, aunque tengo ascendencia egipcia y sudanesa. ¿Cuándo llegaste a Ibiza?: En 2005 pero también viví allí en 1998. ¿Cuál es tu relación con la isla?: El sol, la luna, el mar, la naturaleza, la música y ¡el estilo! Cuéntanos lo qué haces aquí: Llevo una agencia de modelos. ¿Tu agencia de modelos tiene algo que ver con tu pasado?: Siempre quise ser modelo pero no era lo suficientemente buena; ahora entiendo el porqué y no me contrataría (Risas). Trabajé como agente para una agencia en Ámsterdam. ¿Cómo es un día normal en la vida de Makela?: Doy un paseo con mi perro, bebo un zumo para desayunar en Croisanshow o Canedian, trabajo un poco al ordenador, chequeo los mails y hago algunas llamadas, luego almuerzo en la playa e ir un rato por las calles en búsqueda de nuevas caras, vuelvo a la oficina, me reúno y me estreso con mi

diseñador de páginas web, luego intento ir al gimnasio.Y después de esto, voy de nuevo a un restaurant para comer bien. La mayoría de las veces el día acaba con libro de negocios o sobre energía positiva y Facebook. What is your relation with the island?: The sun, the moon, the sea, the nature, the music and the style! Tell us what do you do here: I run a model agency.

Do your model agency has something related to your past?: I always wanted to become a model, but I was not good enough, now I understand why, I would not even hire myself (Laughs). I used to work as a booker for an agency in Amsterdam. How is a normal day in Makela life?: Have a walk with the doggy, drink a juice for breakfast in Croisanshow or Canedian, work a bit on the pc, check all my mails and make a few phone calls, then have lunch on the beach and scout a bit on the streets for some new faces, go back to the office, have some meetings and get stressed with my webdesigner, then I try to go to the gym. And after that I go to a restaurant again for some good food. The end of the day is most of the time with a business or positive energy book and Facebook. (Laughs) Define yourself in 3 words: Extreme, energetic and very ambitious. What do you think about our magazine?: It’s a fun magazine, which is a pleasure to read.

From this cove, situated at 9 km from San José and surrounded by pine-covered hills, you can enjoy an impressing view and it is ideal for walking. It has a wide white sand beach and clear water with a not very deep bottom, which is suitable for water sports. This is one of the most favorite beaches in Ibiza for young and adult people, since it meets the needs of those who want to relax or enjoy its beautiful landscape. This cove is set in a picturesque bay protected by the winds and it seems a real natural pool. It is a popular mooring for private yachts and motor boats, which often gather here to enjoy a romantic sunset that is famous in Ibiza for its special colors (from the most intense blue to the deepest red) which give a natural spectacle like few others. Sophie Belluka Sparks habla con Radouane Mahrouk en La Plage para N&D Magazine. SBS: Radouane Mahrouk, hola y gracias por hablar conmigo en La Plage, tu refinado restaurante. R: Hola, de nada. SBS: ¿De dónde eres? R: Soy de París. SBS: ¿Eres nuevo en Ibiza? R: Llegué en 2009. SBS: Considerando que sólo llevas un año aquí, enhorabuena por el éxito cada vez mayor de La Plage. Estamos sentados en el elegantísimo salón exterior a la orilla del mar, ¿cómo surgió la idea de la decoración? R: Los dos propietarios querían crear un lugar lujoso. Cuando vinieron a ver el sitio en seguida quedaron encantados; uno de los dueños es socio del Nikki Beach Group y ya tenía en mente un concepto con estilo ibicenco. SBS: ¿Qué es lo que distingue vuestro local de los demás y qué propone La Plage a sus clientes? R: Ofrecemos numerosos servicios: tenemos una tienda, proponemos masajes, servicio de aparcacoches, entregamos y nos encargamos del cátering para barcos, traemos a nuestros clientes desde los barcos hasta aquí y tenemos unas camas únicas por su tamaño y comodidad. Y por supuesto, nuestro restaurante con cocina francés y mediterránea.

SBS: Aquí cada lunes tiene lugar Feel more than fine y también otras fiestas especiales con los mejores artistas de la isla, ¿nos quieres contar algo sobre ello? R: Ante todo somos un restaurante, pero también queremos estar en contacto con las mejores actividades musicales de la isla; tenemos a Luciano y a Roger Sanchez una vez al mes hasta el final de la temporada. SBS: ¿Qué tenéis planeado para Septiembre? R: Tenemos grandes sorpresas… pero de momento no puedo revelarlas, ¡esperad y veréis! SBS: ¿Qué pasará en invierno cuando termine la temporada? R: Nos ocuparemos de otros proyectos en todo el mundo y por supuesto prepararemos la siguiente temporada aquí en Ibiza. SBS: ¿Qué opinas sobre nuestra revista? R: Me gusta cómo está configurada, el hecho de que también se pueda leer al revés. También me gusta su contenido que está en sintonía con lo que hacemos en La Plage y en L’elephant en Saint Raphael. R: The 2 owners wanted to do a luxury place. When they came to visit the site, they fell in love instantly; one of the owners is part of the Nikki Beach Group and had a concept in mind with an Ibiza style. SBS: What distinguish you from the other venues, and what do you propose to your customers here in La Plage? R: We offer a lot of services, we have a shop, we propose massages, valet parking, we deliver and cater for boats , we collect people from the boats to bring them here, our beds are unique because they are very big and comfortable. And of course, our restaurant with a French and Mediterranean menu. SBS: You host Feel more than fine every Mondays here, and you also have special parties with the hottest artists on the island, would

you like to tell us about it? Las fiestas en la isla “IN THE NAME OF MUSIC”, que organizamos en colaboración con Christian Dori, son fiestas de estilo underground, un concepto nuevo de fiestas en villas dónde el protagonista es la buena música. Hasta ahora ha sido todo un éxito y esto sólo es el principio. ¿Qué significa Ibiza para vosotros?: Es una isla mágica, muy especial, llena de buenas conexiones donde nuestros proyectos se hacen realidad. ¿Cambiaríais algo de la isla?: Sí, daríamos al público la posibilidad de elegir otro tipo de ocio, que no estuviera tan masificado. ¿Qué pensáis de Night&Day Magazine?: Es una gran revista, de interesante información. ¡Felicidades!

What is Mc Events?: We are an innovating event and artistic consultancy which organizes every type of shows, events and parties for an alert public. How did you get the idea of Mc Events?: It came up from what we have in common, looking for a good music quality and the authentic party spirit. Who have you worked with?: We have worked with Supermartxé, Marco Carola, Paco Osuna, Francisco Allendes, Jose de Divina, David Moreno, Iban Mendoza, Neverdogs, Clint Lee, Flamenco Electronic, with brands like Too Late, and of course Night&Day Magazine. projects?: We want to close this summer with a season-closing event for the people of the island, something very special! Together with Christian Dori, we organize the “IN THE NAME OF MUSIC” parties, with an underground style, a new concept of parties in villas where the star is the good music. So far it has been a great success and this is just the beginning. What does Ibiza mean to you?: It’s a magic island, very special, full of good connections where our dreams come true. TALAMANCA EN CONCIERTO El día 18 de Septiembre tendrá lugar en la playa de Talamanca un gran concierto benéfico en el que actuará el grupo “La Unión”, quienes recibieron en 2006 el Disco de Diamante por su brillante trayectoria profesional en la música. La idea de este evento nace de la mano de un gran deportista de las artes marciales: Francisco Santiago Álvarez Martínez, creador de la marca “Nobles”. El objetivo es construir un Tatami Tradicional, un centro gratuito para adolescentes marginados y con problemas, donde las clases didácticas establecidas en la enseñanza española se fusionen con la disciplina y el entrenamiento de un arte marcial. El evento está pensado para que sea un acontecimiento abierto a la gente de Ibiza, no sólo un concierto más. Lo que se pretende es organizar un lugar donde compartir una doctrina, donde se intercambien valores comunes, formas de vida; un sitio en el que se disfrute y además se aprenda. Y, por supuesto, con la finalidad prioritaria de ayudar a aquellos que aún no han encontrado el camino. El espacio estará distribuido en diferentes áreas: un escenario principal donde actuará el grupo “La Unión”, además de diferentes espacios para los centros de artes marciales en Ibiza, uno para que los artesanos de la isla tengan la oportunidad de mostrar y vender sus productos. Asimismo,

se podrá disfrutar de exhibiciones de bodypainting en vivo y desfiles de moda de las distintas tiendas de Ibiza. Aprovechando que estaremos ubicados junto al mar, también habrá exhibiciones de deportes acuáticos como motos de agua, wakeboard y kitesurf. Este evento de fin de temporada, financiado por varios empresarios de la playa de Talamanca y cubierto por TVE y Cadena 100, será organizado por Sun Sessions, que por segundo año consecutivo nos ofrece un espléndido concierto. En 2009 organizaron un Festival de música en beneficio de la ONG Ibizagaza, en el que los fondos recaudados se emplearon en el envío de ayuda humanitaria. ¡Os esperamos en Talamanca! IBIZA 65

TALAMANCA IN CONCERT On September 18th a great benefit concert will take place on the beach of Talamanca. The band “La Unión”, who received the Diamond Album for their brilliant music career in 2006, will perform. This fundraising event is an idea of a great martial arts athlete, Francisco Santiago Álvarez Martínez, creator of the brand “Nobles”. His objective is building a Traditional Tatami, a free center for marginalized teenagers with problems, where didactic lessons established by the Spanish edu-

cation system will join the discipline and training of a martial art. This event is conceived as open to all the people from Ibiza, it will be not just one more concert. It aims at establishing a place where people can share a doctrine, interchange common values and lifestyles; a place where people can enjoy themselves and also learn. And, of course, the main objective is helping those who have not found their way, yet. The space will be distributed in different areas: a main stage where the band “La Unión” will perform, apart from various spaces dedicated to the martial arts centers in Ibiza, one for the craftsmen of the island where they can show and sell their products. In addition, you can enjoy live body painting exhibitions and fashion shows of the different Ibiza shops. Since it is located by the sea, there will be exhibitions of water sports like jet skiing, wakeboard and kite surf. This season-ending event, funded by several businessmen of the beach of Talamanca and broadcasted by TVE and Cadena 100, will be organized by Sun Sessions. For the second consecutive year they will offer us a splendid concert. In 2009 they organized a music festival for the benefit of the NGO Ibizagaza, which proceeds were used to send humanitarian aid.
