June 2012: if you’re reading these lines that means the world has not ended yet. Maybe it’s just the end of an era, as they say... A long winter is definitely over. We were in Miami for the Winter Music Conference presenting “Casa Ibiza” in partnership with Ibiza Global Radio and Welcome to Ibiza. “Casa Ibiza” wants to be a reference point for our readers and friends during the most important international events in electronic music, and so on. We will also be in Barcelona during the Sònar festival, in London, Berlin, Milan, Turin, Amsterdam, Croatia... Not only Ibiza, but Formentera was also represented in Miami thanks to our collaborator Aldo Fontana. For the moment let’s enjoy the summer which is up and running here on this island, maybe by lying in the sun, maybe by dancing under the sun, or by doing absolutely nothing while listening to the summer hit. Be careful, because we are always looking for people like you... Remember that N&D is the magazine where you are the star, right? Junio de 2012: si estáis leyendo estas líneas significa que el mundo aún no ha acabado. Quizá sea solo el final de una era, eso se dice... Sin duda ha terminado ya un largo invierno en el que hemos estado en Miami durante la Winter Music Conference presentando “Casa Ibiza”, en colaboración con Ibiza Global Radio y Welcome to Ibiza. “Casa Ibiza” quiere ser un punto de referencia para nuestros lectores y amigos en los eventos internacionales de música electrónica más importantes, como en otros eventos. También estaremos presentes en Barcelona durante el Sònar, en Londres, Berlín, Milán, Turín, Ámsterdam, Croacia... No solo Ibiza, sino también Formentera estuvo representada en Miami gracias a nuestro colaborador Aldo Fontana. De momento vamos a disfrutar del verano que hace su curso, en esta isla, tal vez tomando el sol, tal vez bailando bajo el sol o sin hacer absolutamente nada escuchando la canción de éxito del verano. Y cuidado, porque siempre estamos buscando gente como vosotros... Recuerda que N&D es la revista en la que tú eres el protagonista... ¿o no? Name: Amirali Shahrestani Where are you originally from? I was born and raised in Iran until I was about sixteen years old, then I moved to Toronto with my parents when I was in high school. When and how did you start Djing? I have been into music all my life, I started taking piano lessons when I was about five and played classical pieces. In my early teens, I was first exposed to the raw electronic sounds of Depeche Mode, Chemical Brothers, Massive Attack, Portishead and I was kind of trapped by their music. Shortly after we moved to Toronto and that’s where I began to taste the excitement of night-time clubbing culture and felt my passion in making electronic music and DJing. What part of your job do you enjoy the most? I enjoy every bit of it except the traveling part. Although I love being in different places and experiencing different cultures, but I dislike the fact of checking in and out of airports literally everyday. Tell us about your live shows, how do you get inspired? Performing live is a whole different experience; it has a different beauty and feel to it. For this world tour I’m doing now, I’ve prepared a one-hour live set; I play some of the stuff from my album and also some other materials, which is not included on the album. The reaction has been amazing so far. I sing all my tracks live, play keys, add extra effects and loops and re-edit my tracks. Tell us about your relationship with Ibiza. I have never officially played in Ibiza, but I’m looking forward to seeing what happens this year. I’ve been in the isle several times and I absolutely love it. It’s one of the best places in the world in my opinion. Your favorite club: DC-10 How would you describe the music scene in Berlin? I’ve been in Berlin twice this year and I’ll be there again next month for making my debut at Panorama Bar on May 26th. There’s something about the city I love; it’s got such a great vibe, the people seem very chilled and cool and there are many great clubs too. Plans for this summer: Lots of traveling and doing gigs. My diary is almost full for the next three months. I can’t believe how crazy this is getting.

Nací y crecí en Irán hasta que a los dieciséis años, cuando estaba en la escuela secundaria, me mudé a Toronto con mis padres. ¿Cuándo y cómo empezaste a pinchar? Siempre me ha interesado la música, empecé clases de piano cuando tenía cinco años, tocaba piezas clásicas. En mi adolescencia, estuve expuesto primero a los sonidos electrónicos de Depeche Mode, Chemical Brothers, Massive Attack, Portishead, estaba atrapado por su música. Poco después me mudé a Toronto y ahí empecé a saborear la emoción de la cultura del clubbing y me apasioné por la creación de música electrónica y el DJing. ¿Qué parte de tu trabajo te gusta más? Disfruto de cada pedacito de ello, excepto la parte de los viajes. Aunque me encanta estar en lugares diferentes y conocer culturas distintas, no me gusta pasar todos los días por los controles de entrada y salida de los aeropuertos. Háblanos de tus espectáculos en vivo: ¿en qué te inspiras? Los espectáculos en vivo son una experiencia totalmente diferente, tienen una belleza y una atmósfera diferente. Para la gira mundial que estoy haciendo ahora, he preparado un set live de una hora, toco algunos de los temas de mi álbum y también otras cosas que no están incluidas en el álbum. Hasta ahora la reacción ha sido increíble. Yo canto mis canciones en vivo, toco el teclado, añado efectos y loops adicionales y vuelvo a editar mis canciones. Tu relación con Ibiza. Nunca he tocado oficialmente en Ibiza, pero estoy esperando a ver qué pasa este año. He estado en la isla varias veces y me encanta. Para mí es uno de los mejores lugares en el mundo. Esta ciudad tiene algo especial que adoro, tiene un gran ambiente, la gente parece muy fría y fresca, y hay muchos clubes grandes también. Tus planes para este verano. Muchos viajes y conciertos. Interview with Where are you originally from? I’m from the South of Italy, Carinaro, near Naples. What is your job? I have been a promoter for concerts and shows for over thirty-five years. How long have you been living in Ibiza? Thirty-five years. Tell us about the Ibiza 123 Festival. The Ibiza 123 Festival will see the birth of a movement, Rocktronic, a fusion of music, styles, philosophies and trends. The “real stars” such as Sting, Elton John and Lenny Kravitz will be alongside with the “new stars” (Luciano, Pnau, David Guetta, Fatslim Boy, Pete Tong and many more). Elton John presents his first completely Rocktronic album and sings the song “Good Morning to the Night” which he created especially for the Ibiza 123 Festival with Pnau. Lenny Kravitz will perform with Luciano... you can’t miss it! How would you define the cultural reality of the island? Ibiza has always been the island of music. Not only because of the great artists who have been here (Bob Marley, Freddy Mercury, Frank Zappa, etc.), but because it has long created new worldwide musical trends.

Name Paco Osuna Where are you from? Barcelona You are a DJ, a producer and a club promoter – how do you manage to susta ain such a wide scope of duties? Well is hard sometimes, but when you do something with the hearth and passion, everything is possible. You have been in the music scene for almost 20 years now. Do you use influences from the music of the 90s in your music nowadays? I love to play on my sets sometimes music from the 90s and even older, especially when I do long sets or special events. You are releasing your music on the famous techno label “Plus 8”. How did you get in contact with them? I meet Richie in ‘99 in Ibiza and we became friends, but I started working with the label only in 2006. I feel so proud and comfortable to be part of the Minus-Plus 8 family. What other kinds of (electrronic) music do you enjoy and listen to? When I’m not producing or playing I don’t like to listen electronic music, so when I’m not working I love to listen old music, especially from the 80s. What has been your best gig so far? I have so many good memories in 17 years of career, but most recently I think the closing of Amnesia Ibiza 2011.

Cuando no estoy pinchando o produciendo no me gusta escuchar música electrónica, así que cuando no estoy trabajando me encanta escuchar música antigua, especialmente de los años ‘80. ¿Cuál ha sido tu mejor concierto hassta ahora? Tengo muchísimos buenos recuerdos en 17 años de carrera, pero el más reciente creo que ha sido el cierre de Amnesia Ibiza 2011.

Undrez Andres de la empresa FACT ha profesionalizado “La fiesta secreta” organizándola en una casa muy exclusiva a los pies del Tibidabo. Nunca da la fecha ni la hora ni la dirección exacta, solo llegan los que tienen que llegar. Mr. Pawel, un chico polaco muy divertido, ha estado organizando en su casa de Diagonal Mar las mejores fiestas privadas de Barcelona, las llamadas “Pawel World”, patrocinadas por Nando “Full Size” y su bebida energética afrodisíaca a la que representa. Barcelona nightlife is crap. I don’t care what the reasons are, the fact is that last winter partying in Barcelona was and still is boring. Before 6am people didn’t know where to go, like lost souls wandering into bars and clubs that offered nothing new. From 6am there were only after-parties as small as a shoebox that seemed like traps. So while Barcelona is reinventing itself and night entrepreneurs acknowledge their failings, people are meeting at home. This is nothing new but now the phenomenon has taken off, due to the boredom found elsewhere, thanks to the “Secret Parties”. Andres Undrez from FACT has made “The secret party” more professional by organizing it in a very exclusive house at the foot of Tibidabo. He never tells people the date, or the time, or the exact address, only those in the know find out about the parties. Mr Pawel, an exciting Pole, has been organizing the best private parties in Barcelona at his home in Diagonal Mar, called “Pawel World” and sponsored by Nando “Full Size” and the aphrodisiac energy drink he represents. Este año, la segunda semana de mayo en Ibiza fue caracterizada de nuevo por la “Energy Week Ibiza”, una semana de acción con actividades relacionadas con bienestar, nutrición, ejercicio físico y espiritualidad que tuvieron lugar en toda la isla de Ibiza. En el programa del 5 al 13 de mayo de 2012 había talleres, diversas actividades en grupo como yoga, meditación y servicios de spa con masajes y terapias alternativas y holísticas, viajes en el naturaleza, todo acompañado por actuaciones, música y actividades creativas. Los llamados “lugares satélites” participaron en la Energy Week organizando su “jornada de puertas abiertas” y convirtiendo todo el evento en una “semana de puertas abiertas”. La Energy Week integra algunos de los lugares más bonitos de la isla, de manera que los participantes tienen la oportunidad de ver distintos puntos increíbles de Ibiza. Las sedes satélites son agroturismos (hoteles rurales), centros de fitness, escuelas de yoga, centros de salud y mucho más. La compañía Baleària ha creado el concepto ‘Baleària Fun & Music’ como una nueva apuesta por la diversión y el entretenimiento a bordo. Así, la naviera ha programado para este verano la celebración de unas 100 fiestas en las terrazas de los buques que operan desde los puertos de Barcelona y Valencia con las Islas Baleares, en los trayectos interinsulares y desde las Islas hacia la Península. Estas fiestas pretenden ser una forma diferente de viajar a las Baleares y empezar a disfrutar de las vacaciones cuando se sube al barco. Las fiestas se iniciarán el próximo 1 de junio con un concierto del DJ Wally López en el trayecto ValenciaIbiza, y de una fiesta Supermartxé en la conexión Barcelona-Ibiza. Además, en las siguientes semanas se realizarán actuaciones de algunos de los artistas más actuales del panorama español como Leiva, la Oreja de Van Gogh o el grupo de hip hop SFDK entre otros. Where are you originally from? I was born in Ibiza and I’ve lived here for 25 years. What do you do? I am a resident DJ at several clubs on the island and slowly making my way in the world of music production. I also organize my own events. Now PRIVÉE @ Delano Beach Club in Playa d’en Bossa and INSOMNIO @ The Kokotxa Ibiza. Tell us about your Privée parties. What is the concept? PRIVÉE is a music entertainment event associated with Deep & Tech House sounds. PRIVÉE offers a selection of the best entertainment in true Ibiza style, combining the most elegant and vibrant music of the moment with the best national and international DJs, resulting in a truly innovative performance. Your favourite spot on the island: There are so many wonderful places on this island that I could tell you more than one, such as the views of Es Vedrà from the Pirate’s Tower, Atlantis, The Gates of Heaven, Aguas Blancas and many more. Projects for this summer: Continue producing and learning, making sure my PRIVÉE & INSOMNIO parties become a summer reference in Ibiza, preparing for future events already confirmed both here and off the island and as a surprise, BOHEMIA IBIZA, which will recreate the atmosphere one could find until the late nineties on the beaches of the island, casual, outdoor, no VIP area, no Gogos and DJ stars. ¿De dónde eres? He nacido y resido en Ibiza desde que nací, hace exactamente 25 años. ¿A qué te dedicas? Trabajo de DJ residente en varios clubs en la isla y poco a poco me voy abriendo camino en el mundo de la producción musical. También me dedico a la organización y preparación de mis propios eventos. FROM GRAFFITI WITH LOVE DEL GRAFFITI CON AMOR
Jerónimo Bonafé, known as Jerom, is a 32-year-old graffiti writer, born on the island of Ibiza, who began working in the streets in the mid-90s. He began as part of the first group of graffiti writers in Ibiza, having an old school style and making collective works of art dominated by writing and the message. A few years later Jerom developed an interest in a more figurative graffiti that would lead him to continue painting alone and create his own hyperrealism style. In his works, Jerom exploits the full potential of spray to create striking images that are often portraits of women, something that has become his trademark. He has periods of irregular activity. In 2008 he decided to transfer the lessons learned on the street to the professional world and devote himself to working with spray. Now he combines his passion for graffiti in the street with his studio work making spray paintings, exhibitions in different countries and projects of all kinds. Jerónimo Bonafé, conocido como Jerom, es un escritor de graffiti de 32 años, nacido en la isla de Ibiza, que empezó a pintar en la calle a mediados de los 90. Comenzó formando parte del primer grupo de graffiti que hubo en Ibiza, con un estilo más old school y realizando piezas conjuntas en las que predominaban las letras y el mensaje. Al cabo de unos años Jerom descubrió su interés por un graffiti más figurativo que le llevaría a continuar pintando en solitario y a desarrollar su propio estilo dentro del hiperrealismo. En su obra, Jerom busca explotar al máximo las posibilidades del spray para crear imágenes impactantes en las que suelen aparecer retratos femeninos, algo que se ha convertido en una seña de identidad. Con épocas de irregular actividad, es en el año 2008 cuando decide trasladar lo aprendido en la calle al mundo profesional y a dedicarse de lleno a trabajar con spray. Actualmente combina su pasión por el graffiti en la calle con su trabajo en el estudio pintando cuadros con spray, exhibiciones por diferentes países y proyectos de todo tipo.

Daniel - Sissi’s Daniel, how was last season? Great, and now another summer is starting... What did you do this winter? I travelled and spent time with my friends and my family. We have a huge Sissi’s with many chang ges... Yes, it’s true. We have a new terrace, and a new bar specialising in desserts and homemade crepes, apart from our meat and our regular sushi. How do you do it? The season is just beginning and your restaurant is full! Well, we offer quality and a good team. At Sissi’s we have a motto: “you come as a customer and leave as a friend.” How do you se ee Ibiza? It looks very well, with a great future and many years ahead of it...
Daniel, ¿qué tal fue la temporada pasada? Muy bien, y así que se empeza otro verano... ¿Qué has hecho este invierno? Viajar y estar con mis amigos y mi familia. Tenemos un Siissi’s gigante y con muchos cambios... Sí, así es. Hemos hecho una nueva terraza, y una nueva barra dedicada a postres y crepes caseras, a parte de nuestra carne y nuestro sushi de siempre. ¿Cómo lo haces, que no ha llegado aún la gente y tu restaura ante ya está lleno? Bueno, ofreciendo calidad y un buen equipo. En el Sissi’s tenemos un lema: “se entra como un cliente y se sale como un amigo”. ¿Cómo ves Ibiza? La veo bien, con mucho futuro y muchos años más...

Where are you from? Luca: The city of sun... Naples. Relationship with Ibiza: Ernesto: We’ve been enjoying the delights of Ibiza for two decades. It has given us a lot but I think we also have done the same. We live here and from here we plan our trips around the world, happy to know that the coming home is never sad... back to Ibiza! What’s your job? Roberto: We are promoters of events and concept developers. In recent years we have created and been part of events like Tahití Beach, Zenith Nikki’s Beach Miami and lots of well-respected collaborations, as well as hundreds of events around the world. Were did the idea of Music On come from? Ernesto: The idea of Music On in Ibiza was born out of a chat between friends who wanted to work alongside an artist of international fame and who is addicted to good electronic music like Marco Carola. Had you worked together before? Robert: Actually, no, we met here in Ibiza, although all three of us are from Naples. On this island destiny decides who is going to meet who. After months of hard work together, we have created a good friendship based on

common ideas and goals. What is the concept of these parties? Roberto: “Music On is the concept of the no concept”... it’s all about the music! What will make it stand out from other parties? Luca: Its good music. How do you choose the DJs playing at Music On? Luca: The best DJs around. Where do the parties take place? Luca: At Amnesia Ibiza, in both rooms and after 7am we’ll see... Music On is the ideal party for people who... Luca: Think that it’s all about music. How do you see this 2012 season? Ernesto: Intense and exciting! Luca: The year of change. ¿De dónde sois? Luca: De la ciudad del sol… Nápoles. Relación con Ibiza: Ernesto: Con Ibiza nos llevamos bien desde hace dos décadas. Nos ha dado mucho pero creo también nosotros a ella. Vivimos aquí y desde aquí planificamos nuestros viajes por el mundo, felices de saber que las vueltas nunca son tristes…¡volvemos a Ibiza! ¿A qué os dedicáis? Roberto: Somos promotores de eventos y desarrolamos conceptos. En los últimos años hemos creado y sido parte de fenómenos como Tahití Beach, Zenith Ibiza, Pacha Ibiza, Amnesia Ibiza, Nikki’s Beach Miami y numerosas sólidas colaboraciones y centenares de eventos en todo el mundo. ¿Cómo nació la idea de Music On? Ernesto: La idea de hacer Music On en Ibiza nació en una charla entre amigos que deseaban trabajar con un artista de fama internacional y adicto a la buena música electrónica como Marco Carola. ¿Habíais trabajado juntos antes? Roberto: La verdad es que no, nos conocimos aquí en Ibiza, aunque los tres somos de Nápoles. En esta isla quien está destinado a encontrarse se encuentra. Después de unos meses de intenso trabajo juntos, hemos creado una buena amistad basada en ideas y
objetivos comunes. ¿Cuál es el concepto de estas fiestas? Roberto: “Music On is the concept of the no concept”… ¡todo es cuestión de música! ¿En qué se distinguirá de las demás? Off Sonar Next Thursday 14 and Friday 15 of June, Half Baked & Just Wax join forces and play at the Rooftop Garden Party at Club Miramar, scheduled as part of the electronic festival Off Sonar week, which this year promises to be bigger than any of the previous events. Remi Landaz and Bruno Ciaramicoli, founders of Half-Baked, have a long career in the music industry, focusing especially on creating parties in London that are different to what we’re used to. This year’s festival will see Half Baked showcase the exclusive new project from the band Dop live (Circus company) presents Les fils du Calvaire at the Club Miramar. Two surprise guests will also delight us with their live show. There will be more than 16 DJs, 13 hours of celebration, and thousands of gifts, surprises and fun. On Friday it will be the turn of Just Wax, created by Kimi Jubert and Luana Biondi, where vinyls reign. And all this in an unbeatable location, Club Mirabé on Thursday and Club Vetro on Friday. Name: Kimi Jubert How and when did you come up with the idea of Just Wax? A year ago - when vinyl sales began to increase. The idea was to create a party where vinyl was the protagonist. What is the concept and the message you want to convey with your parties? The concept of our parties is to support the vinyl industry, both as artists, labels and record companies that produce only on vinyl. Our goal is an audience looking for an authentic and analogic sound like that of vinyl. What kind of audience do you have? Our target is between 25 and 40, vinyl lovers, and lovers of underground profile parties, as well as selective. What does vinyl represent for you? Love. Plans for 2012 We start with the parties during the Off Sonar week in June, where we have three events, and continue in July in Berlin and London, while in August we will be in Moscow, Ibiza and London. D ANY DANY Name Dany Where are you originally from? From León, northern Spain. How long have you been living in Ibiza? 8 years. What do you do? I’m a policeman. You’re straight but work with gays, how did you start? Yes, I consider myself completely heterosexual. I started in this wonderful world doing promotion on the beach for La Troya party. What do you like most about your job? I love getting the thousands of people crowding Ibiza’s best nightclubs in the mood when I’m up there on the podium. How would you describe the gay scene on the island? Fully liberal! We have people of all sexual orientations on this magical island, which is fantastic and it’s all very respectful! An anecdote about your job: When I started dancing in the world of the night, people went to the police station to tell my superiors what I was doing, but I got carte blanche from my bosses – well-done police! After 8 years of dancing, people are lovely towards me. They already know me as “the policeman” from La Troya and Matinée! What do you like to do during your free time? Sailing the crystal clear waters of Ibiza with my boat and going to the gym, which is sacred. (Laughs). I also love working as a stripper for hen nights/bachelorette parties and birthdays. Future plans: Year after year I want to go on being part of two of the best parties in Ibiza - La Troya and Matinée, at Amnesia, the best club in the world.
Nombre Dany ¿De dónde eres? De León, norte de España. ¿Cuánto tiempo llevas en Ibiza? Llevo 8 años viviendo en Ibiza. ¿A qué te dedicas? Soy funcionario, pertenezco al Cuerpo Nacional de Policía. Eres hetero pero trabajas en el “ambiente”, ¿cómo empezaste? Sí, me considero una persona totalmente heterosexual. Empecé en este maravilloso mundo haciendo promoción en la playa para la fiesta de La Troya. ¿Qué es lo que más te gusta de tu trabajo? Me encanta animar desde el podium a las miles de personas que agolpan las mejores salas de fiesta de Ibiza. ¿Cómo describiríais el ambiente gay en la isla? ¡Totalmente liberal! En esta isla mágica tenemos gente de todas las orientaciones sexuales, es fantástico y respetuoso! Una anécdota de tu trabajo: Cuando comencé a bailar en el mundo de la noche, la gente iba a comisaría para comentar a mis superiores lo que hacía, teniendo “carta blanca” por parte de mis jefes... ¡Olé a la policía! 8 años después de seguir bailando la gente es divina porque ¡ya me conocen como el “policía” de La Troya y Matinée! ¿Qué te gusta hacer durante tu tiempo libre? Salir con mi barco a navegar por las aguas cristalinas de Ibiza e ir al gimnasio que eso es intocable. (Risas) También me encanta trabajar de stripper para despedidas de solteras y cumpleaños. Planes para el futuro: Seguir año tras año participando en dos de las mejores fiestas de Ibiza como son La Troya y Matinée, en Amnesia, el mejor club de la música del mundo.
