“FINALLY BACK HOME” LA TERCERA EDICIÓN DE MUSIC ON IBIZA ESTÁ A LA VUELTA DE LA ESQUINA, CÓMO SE ESTÁ PREPARANDO Y QUE NOS VAMOS A ENCONTRAR.

Some months ago I read an article about Ibiza’s clubs, talking about an increase in tourism linked to the music industry. This year our first Music On will be on the 6th of June. We wanted to keep the vibe from last year, while improving a couple of things. Most of the artists that played last year will be there again, joined by new ones like Chris Liebing and Joseph Capriati. Personally I think Amnesia is one of the top clubs in the world. It is an energetic place, where you can feel the enthusiasm of a musically cultured audience. They bring a unique atmosphere and that means you have to make a special effort to develop a good program. This year we are pleased to announce Carl Cox on the 22nd of August.

Para comenzar, hace unos meses leí un artículo sobre los clubs de Ibiza, que habría un aumento de afluencia de turistas vinculados a la industria de la música. Este año comenzamos con la première de Music el 6 de junio. Primeramente hemos querido mantener la línea del año pasado mejorando algunos matices, albergamos gran parte de los artistas del año pasado y se unen otros nuevos como Chris Liebing y Joseph Capriati. Hasta el momento, para mí Amnesia es uno de los clubs Top del mundo, es un lugar en el cual la energía y el calor de un público culto y atento musicalmente, crean una atmósfera única y enriquecedora. Premisa útil para hacerse una idea de que no ha sido tarea fácil gestionar la programación y satisfacer a los presentes con las fechas de sus citas, entre los cuales anunciamos a Carl Cox el 22 de Agosto. El hecho de haber elegido una Residencia Americana es porqué para nosotros es un reto el dirigirnos a un público nuevo y heterogéneo, acostumbrado a una electrónica de un perfil distinto al europeo, la cual, pensamos que no tardará en llegar a Europa. El Electric Brixton es el primer evento que hemos organizado en UK, en principio, no habíamos planificado ampliar a dos fiestas, pero en vista del Sold Out del viernes, la idea es extender la cita los sábados también. TUS SESIONES EN AMNESIA SON SIEMPRE DE LARGA DURACIÓN, ¿CUÁL ES TU SECRETO? La pasión y atención a un público con un gran conocimiento musical. Esto ya es en si un componente inspirador y un gran incentivo para volver en el estudio, escuchar y editar algunos de los tracks que no suenan como me gustaría. ¿QUIÉN ERES? Soy músico convertido a las artes visuales contra mi voluntad y deseo. El hecho es que aunque lo quiera, tú reconoces tu casa...y la pintura…es mi casa. ¿CUÁL ES TU CIUDAD DE ORIGEN Y PORQUÉ? Buenos Aires, porqué nací ahí. Tavullia, es el oasis donde me oxígeno con mi mujer y sus dos maravillosos bulldog ingleses. Seguirían Milán y Londres donde realicé mis estudios. Milán porqué fue la ciudad donde me convertí a la pintura y Londres porqué es Babilonia. ¿DE QUÉ TRABAJAS?

No trabajo, pierdo el tiempo... esperando. Cuando llega la energía, creo cualquier cosa con los untensilios que tengo a mano. Los llamados cuadros, vídeos, esculturas, son en realidad condensaciones de energía en un soporte. Esto no es trabajo, nunca “supe hacer un cuadro” porqué no vengo de ninguna academia o cosas de este tipo. Es el cuadro el que aparece, podría decir que es él el que se desarrolla a través de mí. ¿CLUB PREFERIDO? El “Quattrocento” de Milán, gracias a Max, es un lugar único. En mis primeros años

El conocimiento común es una utopía, pero algunos Open source como Waze o Blender se acercan bastante a la meta. ¿RELACIÓN CON IBIZA Y FORMENTERA? He pasado unas espléndidas vacaciones en ambas islas, me gustaría sobre todo volver a Ibiza en un periodo menos turístico y vivirla de día, no solo mar y playa, si no visitar parajes y recrearme con la belleza de su naturaleza. ¿AMAS ITALIA? I don´t work, I spend my time...waiting. When the energy comes, I create something with the utensils I have close. The canvases, videos, sculptures, are energy condensed inside one structure. This is not work. I’ve never known how to create a painting, because I’ve never formally studied art. The painting suddenly appears, I could say that it works through me.

The contributions by free developers have improved significantly. Truly shared knowledge is a utopia, but some of these open source platforms like Waze and Blender are very close to making this dream a reality.

Cuando más creces o evolucionas siempre es a partir de las cosas que no han salido como pensabas y en ese sentido soy una persona más aterrizada y cada vez con menos urgencia por tener una opinión sobre todo. Ser consciente de que ahí fuera siempre hay viento, a veces a favor y otras en contra, pero siempre es viento así que trato de mantener mi centro.

¿CITO TUS PALABRAS “BUSCO CONTAR LA HISTORIA QUE ME HAGA VIBRAR ANTE LO QUE MI CUERPO REACCIONA”, ESTO ME HACE PENSAR QUE TIENES MUCHA GUERRA Y LOCURA DENTRO, ME EQUIVOCO?

¡No, no te equivocas! ¡Jajaja, hay ebullición dentro de mi! Y eso se transmite en mis películas. Siempre tratas se mantener la calma para transmitir la información a la gente con la que trabajas... Cuando monto es como si me sentara dos metros por detrás de mí, así ves las cosas como espectador.

Cuando acabo de montar una escena ya no pienso en lo que he hecho sino donde se me va el ojo. Trato de analizar mi cuerpo para sentir si esta tenso o si se distiende. Si percibo una distensión entonces lo arreglo. Buscas siempre la honestidad y el control de las emociones de los actores, no te vale otra cosa lo cual yo como actor lo entiendo… Lo que busco con un actor es conseguir momentos de verdad, debo tener una antena para detectar lo que no sea honesto. Me gustan los actores con técnicas diferentes y que parezca que no hacen esfuerzo para conseguir un resultado en su actuación. Me gustan los actores que no tengas la impresión que hacen de alguien sino que son ese alguien. ¡Que aunque estén repitiendo tus palabras, esas que has escrito en un guion, tengas la impresión de que se les esta ocurriendo en ese mismo momento, o sea que esta pasando! Deben tener un verdadero control del tiempo. En términos técnicos con las emociones intento convertirme en un detector de “la verdad”.

¿PARA MI COMO ACTOR FUE UN ENORME HONOR TRABAJAR EN “RED LIGHTS” A

TUS ORDENES INTERPRETANDO AL “DR.CAMPBELL” PAPEL PEQUEÑO DE REPARTO PERO QUE ME PERMITIÓ ESTAR EN UNA ESCENA CON UNO DE MIS ÍDOLOS ROBERT DE NIRO… LOS PAPELES DE REPARTO LOS MIMAS MUCHO EN LOS CASTINGS VERDAD?

En “Red Lights” hice un gran esfuerzo con el casting, durante dos meses todos los días en reuniones, empeñado en que cada actor fuera muy solido y estuviera a la altura. La cadena siempre tiene la fuerza que tiene el eslabón mas débil, así que todos los detalles cuentan y como dicen los sajones: “el diablo esta en los detalles”. Estaba empeñado en que cada actor fuera enormemente sólido y que su presencia en la película estuviera a la altura del resto de elementos. No puedes tener tres grandes actores y después interpretaciones mediocres alrededor por que sino ya no tienes esas tres grandes interpretaciones, porque se diluyen.

¿COMO REACCIONAS ANTE LA CRITICA? ¿“RED LIGHTS” LA ESCRIBES, LA DIRIGES, PRODUCES, LA MONTAS EN

DEFINITIVA LA ORQUESTRAS, COMO GESTIONAS LA CRÍTICA ESTANDO TAN IMPLICADO?

¡Pues de forma muy deportiva y muy calmada! Jajaja, Si te soy honesto presto muy poca atención a la crítica cuando es positiva. Cuando todo va bien hay muy poco que aprender, poco con lo que enfrentarte. Con el tiempo las opiniones cambian, las buenas y las malas. Algo que sea visto como una obra maestra, a los 10 años a la gente le sorprende haber emitido opiniones tan buenas y al revés.

¿QUE TE HAN PARECIDO LAS DE “RED LIGHTS”?

“Red Lights” ha tenido criticas muy buenas y también demoledoras. Al final tu éxito personal lo mides en la medida que tu película se parece a lo que querías hacer y si has conseguido expresar lo que querías. Sobretodo cuando estrenas, durante la promoción y festivales si consigues una buena y rápida críticaeso permite que otros se contagien y la copien. Es como una bola de nieve y entonces hay mucha gente opinando de una forma muy

¿EN EL FESTIVAL DE SUNDANCE CON “BURIED” TUVISTE ÉXITO QUE NO ESPERABAS NO?

Cuando se habla del éxito con el que fue recibida “Buried” a mi me hace gracia por que no fue el caso, yo en esa época me pase un año oyendo críticas; que si la cobertura del teléfono en mitad del desierto de Irak, o que como se puede meter una serpiente en una caja enterrada, o sobre el oxigeno que en 20 min en una caja enterrada se agota, hubieron muchos comentarios desencantados.

¿DE TODAS FORMAS DE SUNDANCE SALISTE MUY REFORZADO Y DE AHÍ TU VALENTÍA PARA EMBARCARTE EN UN PROYECTO COMO “RED LIGHTS”? Mira Max si quieres que hablen bien de tu película solo tienes que hacer otra, en el momento que la haces, esa empieza a ser la nueva referencia con la que golpear en la cabeza a la siguiente.

¡Pues nooo! ¡Jajajajhay otra que me hizo aún más ilusión! Ya que hablamos del grande y terrible! Jajaja dijo algo aún mejor, te explicaré como es el y lo comprenderás. DeNiro es un hombre de muy pocas palabras, no es que sea una persona antipática en absoluto, ni tímida, simplemente es que hablar no es lo suyo. Si el empieza una frase y tu se la acabas te lo agradece por que eso le permite usar menos palabras para completarla. Puedes estar media hora con el sin hablar y no se crea ningún tipo de silencio incomodo, solo que la comunicación sucede a otro nivel. Si tu le preguntas por ejemplo por Scorsese pues elsolo moverá la cabeza un par de veces como diciendo, “¡si si, esta muy bien!”, obviamente el tiene una opinión de su amigo como un genio de la cinematografía pero no te lo cuenta. Cuéntame alguna anécdota buena. Recuerdo una entrevista que les hicieron a De Niro y Tarantino juntos, en un momento dado el entrevistador le pregunto a DeNiro que como era trabajar con Tarantino. Se podía leer perfectamente en la cara de Tarantino la desesperación mientras miraba a DeNiro por que dijera algo bueno. En sus ojos había esa demanda de; “¡porfavor, Di algo y que sea bueno!” Y De Niro solo respondió “¡its ok its ok!”. ¡Eso en el mundo NeNiro es muy muy bueno!

FROM YOUR FIRST SHORT FILM AT THE AGE OF 16 TO “RED LIGHTS”, WHAT CHANGES PROFESSIONALLY AND PERSONALLY HAVE YOU RECOGNISED IN RODRIGO CORTÉS? When things don’t run as you want, it means you are evolving and growing. I have been more relaxed with that, and also I am better at not taking everything personally. We should be conscious that out there the wind will always blow, sometimes in your direction and sometimes not, but there will always be wind. All I can do is try to hold my centre.

I MENTION YOUR WORDS “I LOOK FORWARD TO TELLING STORIES ABOUT WHAT EXCITES ME” THIS MAKES ME THINK YOU ARE FIGHTING WITH YOURSELF, AM I RIGHT? You are right!! Hahaha, something is boiling inside me!! And this is what I express in my films. On set, I try to be calm so I can communicate my

intentions to the crew. When I am editing I try to also be a spectator. When I finish I don´t think about what I have made, only what captures my attention. I analyse my body; is it tense? Or relaxed? If I discern a relaxation of my body, then the film needs more work.

ARE YOU ALWAYS LOOKING FOR HONEST EMOTIONAL PORTRAYALS FROM YOUR ACTORS?

I like to get real moments from the actors! I have my antennae on to detect what is not honest. I like actors with different techniques, and when it looks like they’re not trying to perform. They just have to be “someone”, as they are improvising, not just reading your script. It’s happening for real! They should have a strong sense of timing. In technical terms I am a “truth detector”.

El evento se realizará a final de agosto en el restaurante de Cipriani, Downtown Ibiza y en Formentera en el restaurante Rigatoni. Durante la cena el público invitado disfrutará de espectáculos musicales, comedias y de moda, que acompañarán a la entrega de premios de las categorías correspondientes. La Final será presentada por dos personas: un profesional del mundo del espectáculo y uno de los organizadores del equipo N&D. Cada premio será entregado por personas de la isla relacionadas con la categoría premiada. Los dos premios que cerrarán el evento serán los premios N&D, votados por los lectores de Night&Day y el premio a la Carrera, entregado a un personaje de Ibiza o Formentera, donde se valorarán sus meritos profesionales o artísticos. La entrega de este último será conferida por una autoridad pública.

When you vote, you are entered into a weekly raffle with several prizes. The weekly winners will then be entered into another raffle for the Gala night, where they have the chance to win the “reader of the year” Award and a grand prize of a free week in an island’s resort.

The jury – composed of the best national and international professionals, institutional figures and local media.

The final – There will be a dinner party for the final, with several shows and performances. In Ibiza the celebrations will be held at Cipriani’s restaurant, Downtown Ibiza and in Formentera at Rigatoni beach club. Both will take place at the end of August. During the dinner, there will be musical, comedy and fashion shows, that will support the final prizes award for the respective categories. The final event will be presented by one professional personality and one member of the N&D staff. Each award will be given by islanders who are linked with the category. The event will finish with two special awards: The N&D Reader Award, selected directly by our readers, and the Carrier Award given to a person from Ibiza and Formentera, who has excelled in his work or art. reconocimiento fue de la mano de GROOVE ARMADA (en el 2005) cuando cerraban la terraza de Space en la fiesta WE LOVE SUNDAYS con el track TO BE OR NOT TO BE (original mix). Tal vez tuve otra sensación, porqué era un sonido mas underground, de la mano de Steve Lawler donde firmé como CUTLAB.

I will start in Privilege for the Opening (I will play at the closing as well) on the 30th of may; in august I am playing with Marco Carola at “Music On” in Amnesia, Carl Cox at “Music is Revolution” in Space, Ultra Croatia among other gigs…

Llegamos a Cancún como invitados especiales de Night&Day, del aeropuerto directos a Playa del Carmen. Nos damos cuenta de como, después de diez años, esta pequeña tierra de pescadores se ha transformado, ahora puedes encontrar todo lo que encontraríais en una gran metrópoli, tiendas con grandes marcas, centros comerciales al estilo americano y como no, clubs y locales de noche. De hecho, en una misma calle, se concentran una treintena de pub y club, todos rigurosamente al aire libre, con una entremezcla entre un local y otro. Playa se encuentra al sur de Cancún a unos cincuenta kilómetros de la costa del caribe de México, pero a diferencia de la hermana mayor, no se ha contaminado de manera desenfrenada y con influencia americana como Las Vegas,

todavía conserva sus bellas playas caribeñas, palmeras y una población muy acogedora. Dentro de un ambiente más relajado que el caos y la confusión. En todo esto llega el BPM Festival, diez días de música electrónica con los mejores djs de todo el mundo, que pincharán en esta ocasión en los club al aire libre de Playa del Carmen. La fiesta se organiza por el día y por la noche donde la consecución de los djs y de las organizaciones más famosas del mundo no te dan casi el tiempo de saborear este festival que recuerda a Ibiza de hace 20 años, donde todo estaba permitido: pinchar y organizar fiestas a la vera del mar con una Margarita en tu mano y una música que enmarca el idílico atardecer que se pierde entre el palmeral. Este año, el tiempo no ha acompañado mucho el comienzo del festival, y ha hecho bajar el entusiasmo de la apertura, pero afortunadamente finalmente el sol ha salido calentandonos con temperaturas hasta 30°C. Personalmente FUSION BEACH, uno de los locales más

pequeños de el BPM, me ha llamado la atención porqué muy bonito y ha contado con dj como TINI y los Apollonia, que hemos entrevistado. Un club excitante, que no nos podíamos perder, fue el BLUE PARROT, con una estructura clásicamente mexicana, con techo de paja y luces de una nave espacial en la fase de aterrizaje. Un momento particular fue cuando Richie Hawtin y Dubfire se apropiaron del Fogón, uno de los mejores restaurantes económicos de Playa, organizando una fiesta que bloqueó la calle principal donde se reunieron todos los adeptos al evento. Cada día llegaban noticias de fiestas nuevas y fiestas privadas organizadas a lo largo de la costa que va de Playa a la famosa Tulum, a una hora de taxi, estos eventos alternativos ofrecían una oportunidad de disfrutar la belleza natural que rodea la zona y aunque no formaban parte de BPM, si formaban parte de la experiencia del festival. En definitiva, BPM contó con una organización magistral

que ni la lluvia ni los monzones tropicales han sido capaces de estropear. Ha sido una experiencia que aconsejo, desde los pequeños y nuevos clubber hasta los más consolidados de la música house y la brisa marina, que cortaba la humedad de la atmósfera, permanece también como un recuertdo increíble e inolvidable de este festival ¡único en su género! Once in Cancún as special correspondent of Night&Day magazine, we went to Playa Del Carmen straight from the airport. We saw immediately how, in ten years, this fishing village and small resort town has transformed itself; Now you can find everything like in a big city, luxury hotels, big brands, Americanstyle shopping malls and of course many clubs and nightlife. Indeed, in a street, are concentrated thirty pubs, nightclubs all strictly

everything was allowed: playing and organizing parties by the sea at sunset under palm trees drinking Margarita with the music as frame. This year, unfortunately, at least at the beginning of the festival the weather was not very forgiving, the initial enthusiasm was a bit low but luckily towards the end the sun started to shine, it was like to be inside a 30°C oven - In my opinion the nicest place was the local FUSION BEACH perhaps the smallest of BPM but certainly the most characteristic, where DJs as TINI and Apollonia played. An exciting club not to be missed is the BLUE PARROT a classical Mexican structure with straw roof and with an amazing sunrise

that illuminates the club like a spaceship... A very special event was when Richie Hawtin and Dubfire took possession of Fogon, one of the cheapest and well known restaurants in Playa, setting up a party that blocked the main road by all the fans who went to the event. Every day we discovered new parties and private celebrations organized along the coast from Playa to the famous Tulum, about an hour by taxi, these events provided an opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty surrounding the area and the weather and even if not officially part of the BPM, all these events were part of the experience of this

unique festival. This BPM was an amazing experience... Not even the rain and the tropical monsoon has managed to stop it. An experience that I would recommend to everyone from the youngest clubbers to the most experienced lovers of house music… The incredible breeze that blew from the sea to cut the humidity, millions of indelible memories of this unique festival of its kind!

Playa is located south of Cancun, fifty miles on the Caribbean coast of Mexico but, unlike her older sister, has not been contaminated by luxury and by the American influence, Las Vegas style, in fact maintains beautiful Caribbean beaches, palm trees and a very welcoming population. This makes it a more relaxing environment than usual hustle and bustle. In all of this comes the BPM; tenday electronic music with the best DJs from around the world, playing only in outdoor clubs along the beaches of Playa del Carmen. Celebrations organized day and night, where a numbers of DJs and the most famous organizations in the world do not give you the time to enjoy this place… playa now, is like Ibiza but 20 years ago, where

La idea detrás de este proyecto fue la creación de un espacio opulento, estéticamente más agradable, hedonista, dentro de las cuatro paredes de esta terraza en estilo victoriano. Situada a 100 metros del famoso mercado de Roman Road, también está muy cerca de las principales rutas de autobús , con fácil acceso a la ciudad y las zonas de moda de Shoreditch y Hoxton . Línea de metro Mile End centraly la estación de Bow Church DLR están muy cerca. El objetivo era crear un espacio de relax, con abundancia de materiales

preciosos, ángulos y curvas. Ten altavoces de techo se han instalado en toda la casa, ocho de los cuales crean en la planta baja un Dolby 7.1 surround Cinema. Un altavoz está en la ducha y dos en el dormitorio principal. Para mayor seguridad, en la casa se han instalado CCTV cámaras, que se comunican con un smartphone , ordenador o ipad y son capaces de ser vistos con Internet conexión desde cualquier parte del mundo, proporcionando tranquilidad a la hora de distancia de la casa. La casa ha sido equipada con un sistema de iluminación club mood high tech LED. Balaustradas de cristal y mamparas de ducha también

se han combinado con el sistema de iluminación, creando hermosos efectos especiales. El color, el brillo y los efectos especiales pueden ser manualmente controlados. Para una ultima experiencia relajante se puede disfrutar de una bañera de hidromasaje en estilo japonés, situada en el ventanal del salón, mirando películas favoritas o escuchando la música favorita. La bañera está instalada con el mezclador de agua Grohe. Puede ser programada para funcionar a través de aplicaciones iphone o con una llamada telefónica. Puede llevar el baño a la temperatura preferida para el momento en que llegas a casa. La propiedad tiene

unos armarios de nogal hechos a mano en el salón, puertas de nogal, suelos de madera dura y escalera personalizada revestida de madera de nogal. Toda la carpintería ha sido profesionalmente pulida a la francés.

One speaker is in the shower and two in master bedroom. For security, the house has been installed with CCTV cameras, which communicate with a smart phone, computer or ipad and are able to be viewed with internet connection from anywhere in the world, providing peace of mind when away from the house. The house has been equipped with a high tec LED club mood lighting system. glass balustrades and shower screen

have also been combined with the lighting system, creating beautiful special efiects. The colour; brightness and special efiects can be manually controlled. For the ultimate relaxing experience, a Japanese style hot tub, sunk into the bay window of the lounge, can be enjoyed, whilst watching your favourite movies or listening to your favourite music. The tub is installed with state of the art Grohe water mixer. it can be programmed to run via iphone app or by a phone call. it can run the bath to the preferred temperature by the time you arrive home. The property has a hand-made walnut cupboards in

the lounge, walnut door surrounds, hard wood flooring and walnut clad custom staircase. all woodwork has been professionally French polished.

The ldea behind this project was to create the most aesthetically pleasing, hedonistic, opulent space within the four walls of this Victorian style end of terrace. Situated within 100 meters of the famous Roman Road market, it is also very close to major bus routes with easy access to the City and the trendy areas of Shoreditch and Hoxton. ALFRED, ¿CÓMO SURGIÓ LA IDEA?

En los últimos años, la llegada de las tecnologías asequibles y fáciles de usar, ha hecho que mucho dj improvisado se atreva a ponerse delante de los “platos”. También la propuesta artística de muchos clubs se ha mermado, decreciendo en creatividad e innovación. Por esa razón yo y algunos colegas nos hemos propuesto crear una nueva Noche, basada en la búsqueda y en la calidad de las ofertas musicales.

HAS PINCHADO PARA UN GRAN PÚBLICO, NO SOLO COMO DJ, TAMBIÉN COMO MIEMBRO DE DB BOULEVARD Y PRESENTANDO EL SINGLE “POINT OF VIEW” EN LA MTV MUSIC AWARDS EN BARCELONA DELANTE DE MILLONES DE ESPECTADORES. ¿POR QUÉ ESCOGISTE UN LOCAL TAN EXCLUSIVO COMO DOWNTOWN DE CIPRIANI?

Mi propósito es cultivar mi principio de “calidad, no cantidad” he tenido que hacer una inversión de tendencia. Y para abarcar los valores primarios y emociones más genuinas en la música house he tenido que echar una mirada al pasado y redescubrir clásicos como “Where Love Lives” de Alison Limerick o “When I Fell N Love” de UBQ Project. Para este ambicioso proyecto he necesitado a mis amigos y socios y un

local que tuviera la mísma filosofía. Cipriani es sinónimo en todo el mundo de calidad con mayúsculas y atención al detalle. Es por eso que elegimos Downtown Ibiza.

Cuando Alfred me expuso de la filosofía del proyecto, me ha pegado un subidón de buen rollo. Porqué me permitía extenderme con absoluta libertad entre mis producciones pasadas mezclándolas con las más actuales, creando un puente ideal espacio-temporal.
