PERSONAJE DEL MES - PERSONAJE OF THE MONTH

Explícame tu relación con Ibiza: Como gran parte de la gente, antes de venir por primera vez tenía una idea negativa y totalmente equivocada. Llegué por primera vez para hacer un disco con Ricardo Villalobos hace 11 años. Al llegar cambié totalmente de opinión porque me la imaginaba muy diferente, sucia, demasiado turística y me asombró la belleza que tiene, su diversión y naturaleza. Esta conexión tiene mucho que ver con mi personalidad. ¿Hay otro sitio parecido a Ibiza en el mundo?: No, Ibiza es única en su estilo. La distancia con los países europeos es corta, y el espíritu de la gente de la isla es muy positivo. Hay gente que deja una vida aburrida en sus ciudades natales para venir aquí y montar algo, y

lo puedes ver en todas partes. Yo mismo cuando llevo mis hijos al colegio veo los padres de los demás niños que han venido a vivir aquí hace años y viven felices en esta isla. ¿Te has mudado a Ibiza?: No, yo vivo en invierno 6 meses aquí y después 6 meses en Suiza.

Hablemos de tu nueva fiesta en Pacha, los domingos, ¿por qué Vagabundos?: De gira por Sudamérica, en Brasil salió este nombre. Me llamaban vagabundo sin futuro, y cuando volvimos de gira me dijeron de llamarlo así pero sin futuro, ¡me parecía demasiado! Así que se quedó en Vagabundos… ¿Has cambiado tu estilo musical?: No es un cambio, es una evolución con los años, pero no he cambia-

do mi estilo.

Luciano, vamos a hacer un juego, define con una sola palabra: Felicidad: Amor Dinero: Comodidad Libertad: Familia Ibiza: Libertad Luciano: Vagabundo Pacha: Cambio Dc10: Recuerdo Sexo: Felicidad Vinilo: Conservador ¿Cuál es tu pasatiempo en Ibiza?: Estoy haciendo un curso de fotografía bajo el agua, voy 3 veces por semana a bucear y ¡me encanta! ¿Sigues usando vinilos?: Me encantan, los guardo en casa pero ahora ya son otros tiempos.

Proyectos para el futuro: Hacer música, trabajar en el estudio, ¡tengo muchas ganas de montar un estudio aquí!

Quién mejor que tú para contarnos que pasó con la fiesta de Ushuaia…: Se transformó en una cosa demasiado grande por el éxito, y como siempre hay gente a favor y gente en contra. Fue muy difícil, porque habíamos creado algo muy muy bonito, y fue una pena enorme tener que dejarlo. ¿Qué piensas de nuestra revista?: Me encanta porque descubro cositas de la isla, aunque no soy mucho de revistas, pero ¡siempre tengo una en casa!

Explain your relationship with Ibiza: Like most of the people, before coming for the first time I had a negative idea about it and I was completely wrong. I came for the first time to make a record with Ricardo Villalobos 11 years ago. When I arrived here I completely changed my mind: I thought it was very different, dirty, with too many tourists and I was amazed by its beauty, fun and nature. This connection has much to do with my personality.

Is there another place similar to Ibiza in the world?: No, there isn’t.

Ibiza is unique in its style.

The distance with other European countries is very short and the spirit of its inhabitants is very positive.

Some people leave their

boring life in their countries to come here and set up something. You can see it everywhere. When I take my kids to school I see the parents of other children who came here many years ago and happily live on this island.

Have you moved to Ibiza?: No, I haven’t. In winter I live here for 6 months and then spend 6 months in Switzerland.

Let’s talk about your new party at Pacha every Sunday, why Vagabundos (“tramps”)?: While we were touring in South America, this name came up in Brazil. They called me a “tramp without future”, so when we came back they suggested me to use this name, although I removed “without future” because it

was too much! So now it’s Vagabundos (“tramps”)…

Have you changed your musical genre?: It is not a change, it is an evolution within the years but I haven’t changed my style.

Luciano, let’s play a game. vinyl?: I love them, I kept them at home but now times have changed.

Plans for the future: Making music, working at the studio, I really want to set a studio here!

You are the most appropriate person to tell us what happened with the Ushuaia party…: It turned into something too big due to its success, and as always there were people in favor and against it. It was very hard because we had created something really nice and it was a pity to leave it.

What do you think about our magazine?: I love it because I can discover many things about the island. Even if I do not usually read magazines, I always have one at home!

THE REVOLUTION CONTINUES LA REVOLUCIÓN CONTINÚA

Hemos hecho algunas preguntas a Carl Cox para que podáis tener más detalles sobre esta increíble nueva fiesta.¿Quién podría explicárnoslo mejor que él? ¿Desde hace cuántos años vienes a Ibiza?: Muchos años… Llevo 24 años viniendo a esta isla, quiero mucho a este lugar y su energía. El año que viene celebraremos el 25º aniversario de Carl Cox en Ibiza. ¿Cuándo empezaste a tocar en Ibiza?: En 1999, todavía era un chico que llegaba de Inglaterra y no tenía mucho dinero para quedarme. Primero, toque en lo que hoy es Eden y después en muchos otros sitios como Manumission, Pacha, etc.

Fue en Pacha donde empezaron a conocerme. ¿Por qué el nombre de esta fiesta es “La revolución continúa”?: Necesitábamos una razón, que la gente viniera a escuchar un colectivo de DJ’s, que no fuese sólo la fiesta de Carl Cox. Hemos empezado una revolución contra la negatividad, contra la gente que piensa que la música house ya está terminada, para mostrar al mundo que mi noche es lo que representa Ibiza: buena música y

un ambiente increíble. Lo hago porque me encanta y esto es Ibiza. ¿Con qué DJ’s colaborarás este verano?: Este año podré contar con el apoyo de unos DJ’s residentes muy buenos, como Umek, Nic Fanciulli y Yousef y también con un increíble reparto de artistas internacionales, entre los cuales Fatboy Slim, Danny Tenaglia, Green Velvet, Loco Dice, John Digweed, Dubfire y muchos más…

Carl, ¿cuántos géneros musicales distintos puedes tocar?: Drum and base, garage, techno, funky, soul, jazz y latin… Hace muchísimos años que acumulo música y me gusta poner la música adecuada para cada situación… ¿Cómo definirías tu estilo?: Música house alegre con algo de techno.

Por último, un consejo para jóvenes DJ´s y productores que acaban de empezar: Los DJ’s tocan la música en la que creen. Si lo haces, la gente te apoya. Hay que estar satisfecho con lo que haces y sonreír; es la única manera de alcanzar un objetivo.

We have asked some questions to Carl Cox so you have more details about this incredible new party. Who could explain it better than him?

How long have you come to Ibiza?: So many years… Now I´ve been coming to this island 24 years, I really love this island and his energy. Next year we will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Carl Cox in Ibiza.

When did you start playing in Ibiza?: In 1999, I was just a guy that came from England and I didn’t have so much money to stay. First of all, I played in a club which is now Eden, and then I started playing in many places like Manumission, Pacha, etc. It was in Pacha where I started to be known.

Why is the name of the party “The revolution Continues”?: We needed to find a reason for people to come, that is a collective of DJ’s, not just Carl Cox´s party.

We have started a revolution against negativity,against those people who think that house music is over and to show the world that my night is what Ibiza represents: good music and an amazing atmosphere.

I do it because I love it and this is Ibiza.

With which DJ’s are you going to collaborate this summer?: It will be a very good support of resident DJ’s this years, like Umek, Nic Fanciulli and Yousef and also with a colossal line-up of international artists including Fatboy Slim, Danny Tenaglia, Green Velvet, Loco Dice, John Digweed, Dubfire and lots more…

But Carl, how many different music genres can you play?: Drum and base, garage, techno, funky, soul, jazz and latin… I´ve collected music since many many years and I love to put the right music in the right situation…

How do you define your style?: Happy house music, with a little techno inside.

Finally, an advice for young DJ´s and producers that are starting: DJ’s play the music they believe in. If you do so, people will support you. You have to be happy with what you do and smile; that´s the only way to reach an objective.

Pablo Kopanos Háblanos de tu relación con la isla: En esta isla paso unos 6 meses del año, Aquí lo tengo todo: amigos, buen clima, buena energía, un lugar precioso y con una onda tremenda.Trabajo todos los sábados de la temporada en el Space con la fiesta Café Olé y tengo mi programa de radio todos los lunes a las 22 en Ibiza Global Radio. En fin, un conjunto de cosas que me hacen totalmente feliz de estar en Ibiza. ¿A qué edad empezaste a interesarte por la música?: Por la música en general cuando era muy pequeño, a eso de los 10 años escuchaba mucho heavy y rock sobre todo de mi país, Argentina, ¡música que aun sigo escuchando! Por la música electrónica fue hace unos 12 años cuando empecé a moverme por discotecas donde se ponía este estilo, en seguida me encantó y empecé a investigar sobre ella.

Describe tu música en tres palabras: Energética, pasional y alegre.

Descríbete a ti mismo en tres palabras: Profesional, innovador y vanguardista.

Ibiza en tres palabras:Bella,divertida y glamurosa. ¿Qué tipo de música tocas?: Actualmente toco un house muy contundente,con vocales y algunas partes melódicas, y es inevitable que se me escapen

siempre algunos tracks más tech house y house menos comercial. ¿Dónde podemos escucharte en Ibiza?: Cada sábado en Café Olé en la sala Space.

Y los lunes por la noche en Ibiza Global Radio.

Háblanos de tus proyectos para este verano 2010: Por suerte son los que se están cumpliendo: trabajar en Space, tener mi programa de radio,sacar unas cuantas producciones, seguir viajando a tocar fuera y ¡disfrutar cada día de este hermoso trabajo!

Explícanos una anécdota en cabina: No hace mucho me despisté cuando estaba tocando y dejé la sala entera a mis espaldas, había muchísima gente, me puse a hablar un momento con una persona y escucho que la música se baja y se sube.Cuando me di vuelta había una chica del publico que se había estaba subiendo y bajando el canal de la mesa y con la mano arriba muy metida en el papel (Risas) ¡Flipé! ¿Qué opinas de nuestra revista?: Siempre la leo. Tell us about your relationship with the island: I spent 6 months per year on this island. Here I have everything: friends, good weather, good energy and a wonderful place with good vibes. At summer I work every Saturday at Space in the Café Olé party and I have got my radio program every Monday at 10pm on Ibiza Global Radio. So, these things make me very happy to be in Ibiza.

At what age did your interest to music start?: To music in general when I was a child. When I was 10 I used to listen a lot to heavy metal and rock, especially Argentinean bands, and I still listen to this music!

I got interested in electronic music about 12 years ago when I began to go clubbing.

I immediately loved this kind of music and started researching on it.

Describe your music in three words: Energetic, passionate and happy.

Describe yourself in three words: Professional, innovative and avant-garde.

Ibiza in three words: Beautiful, fun and glamorous.

Which kind of music do you play?: Currently, I play a heavy house with vocals and some melodic parts, and I

inevitably put on some more tech house and less commercial house tracks.

Where can we listen to you in Ibiza?: Every Saturday in Café Olé at Space and on Monday night on Ibiza Global Radio.

Tell us about your plans for this summer 2010: Fortunately, they are reality: I work at Space, have got my own radio program, release some productions, keep playing abroad and enjoy every day this beautiful job!

Tell us an anecdote while playing: Not long ago I got distracted while playing.The audience was behind me, there were a lot of people and I was talking to someone.

Suddenly, I noticed that the music was going up and down.

When I turned around, I saw a girl from the public at the console, with one hand up. She was really into the character!

(Laughs) I was tripping!

buen management para que ésta circule y se conozca. ¿Cómo ha evolucionado tu música desde tus comienzos hasta ahora?: Si hablamos de dance music, empecé escuchando la techno londinense, productores como Darren Emerson, Fabi Paras, etc. Después la ola Detroit/Chicago me arrastró y descubrí nuevas sonoridades. Hoy hay buena música en cada esquina del planeta. Por mi parte, me gusta navegar por distintos géneros musicales, ¡así nunca me aburro!

Planes para el futuro: Concentrarme en el branding & developing de Hideout y pensar en nuevos pasos a dar como productor y dj.

When did you start working in the world of music?: When I was 16 I started organizing parties with some friends.

Do you prefer producing or DJing?: They are complementary!

Do you think now it is more important for a successful DJ to have a good marketing or good music?: Good question, you need both. Music is always your trademark but

you also need a good management so that it can circulate and getting known.

How has your music evolved from the beginning until now?: If we talk about dance music, I started listening to the techno from London, producers like Darren Emerson, Fabi Paras and so on.

VERONIQUE & MAURICE Saturday Night Fever Siento no poder ir al “The Diamond Club Ibiza” que como siempre será el evento del verano, al que mi amigo John me ha invitado. CANCELADO a última hora.

Dudamos entre La Leche y el Cafe Olè, dos fiestas que me encantan, además de dos noches blancas. Al final elegimos el Cafe Olè donde nuestra amiga, la guapísima Raluca, baila por gran parte de la noche.

Ya no hablamos más de la fiesta del domingo en Blue Marlin, ni tampoco de “La Plage” y Ushuaia, que ya conocéis.

En cambio, me agrada llevar a mi amiga Galia Salimo (que organiza la famosa fiestas “Overkitsch” todos los domingos en el Queen de París) a comer al restaurante Cap de Falco, que es un sitio mágico donde se come muy bien. No cuento nada más, simplemente tenéis que ir porque os encantará.

He entendido muy bien que la isla quiere cambiar de clientela, los drogadictos ya no son decorativos: demasiado ruido, no respectan la ley y el entorno,no nos gustan sus maneras.¡Queremos a losVIP! Los queremos en todas partes: en hoteles,restaurante,discotecas,tiendas y bares... ¿Pero cómo podemos invitarlos si cada vez que hay un evento extraordinario se suspende? Sophie belluka sparks Sophie Belluka Sparks, Una estrella de Londres a Ibiza ¿De dónde eres?: Nací y me crié en el sur de Francia, pero ahora vivo en Londres. ¿Qué edad tienes?: Cuando se me ocurre una melodía y la desarrollo con el piano tengo 8 años; cuando escribo letras, poemas, pinto óleos o estoy con mis amigos y mi familia muestro la pureza de corazón de una quinceañera con la profundidad y sabiduría de una mujer de 99 años. Cuando escucho o escribo música viajo por todas estas edades.

En pasado fuiste una gimnasta de fama mundial, ¿todavía practicas algún deporte?: ¡Para nada! ¡Tuve una sobredosis! ¿Qué tipo de música prefieres producir?: No me limito a ningún género, simplemente tengo que sentirlo y por supuesto tiene que sonar bien a mis oídos. Sin embargo, es más práctico producir música electrónica porque puedo hacerlo sola al ordenador o con alguien más. Por lo que se refiere a la música rock/pop/acústica, tengo que organizar la sesión con los músicos para grabar en directo en

un estudio alquilado con ingenieros de sonido, etc., que también es una experiencia increíble. ¿También tocas en un programa de radio?: Sí, cada miércoles de 14:00 a 16:00 (hora de Londres) en PUSH FM. Se llama The Sophie Belluka Sparks show. ¿Cuál ha sido tu mayor éxito?: Como dj, probablemente la fiesta SOUND & ROSES que dirijo en el EGG en Londres. Hasta ahora la mayor noche ha sido la del 20 de Febrero de este año.

Como compositora, una canción en 2006 titulada “Lush”, que realicé en colaboración. ¿Tu lugar favorito en el mundo?: El templo Angkor Wat en Camboya viendo amanecer a las 5 de la mañana.

Planes para el futuro: Centrarme en sacar al mercado mis canciones, seguir trabajando en mis 2 discos, uno de música house y el otro con canciones lentas.

También estoy empezando una colaboración con el rapero Bellie. ¿Qué piensas de nuestra revista?: Muy bonita, llena de colores y profesional. Es un honor hablar con vosotros.

How old are you?: When a melody comes to my head and I develop it on the piano I am 8 years old; when I write lyrics, poetry, paint oil on canvas, or express myself with my friends and family, I give my purest light hearted of a 15 years old with the depth and wisdom of a 99 years old. When I play music or just listen to it, I travel between all these years.

We know that in the past you have been a world class gymnast, do you still practice any sports?: Not at all! I had overdose!

What kind of music do you prefer to produce?: I am not limited to any genre as long as I feel it and it’s good to my ears.

It is more practical to produce electronic music, as you can do it alone on a computer or with another person.

What was your best success?: As a dj, probably my night SOUND & ROSES that I run at the EGG club in London, the best night so far was on 20th of February this year.

As a song writer, I did in a collaboration a song in 2006 called “Lush”.

Your favorite place in the world?: Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia at 5am sunrise.

What are your plans for the future?: Focus on delivering my songs, continue working on my 2 albums, one in house music for the dancefloor, and one with down tempo songs. I am also starting a collaboration with rapper Bellie.

We didn’t want to work for anyone, we wanted to play alone. So we started with our own sushi bar at the Blue Marlin. I was the sushiman and Gaston, the RRPP, used to entertain everyone on the beach.

Which is your working method?: We have fun caring for our customers, enjoying our job, creating a team and copying the best to become real professionals.

Tell us about your new plans: We have transformed the former “Lucifer” into the “Living Club”, a cool lounge where you can spend hours listening to good music with our people and one of the most beautiful Ibiza views.

Nieves Nombre: Nieves Serra Ferrer Edad: La mejor ¿De dónde vienes?: No vengo de ningún sitio, siempre estuve aquí. ¿Por qué elegiste Ibiza?: Yo no la elegí, ella me eligió a mí. Soy ibicenca de pura cepa. ¿A qué te dedicas?: Desde 1998 trabajo de auxiliar administrativo en una compañía aérea del aeropuerto.

Y todos los veranos desde el 2001 pertenezco al grupo MATINÉE. ¿Cómo empezaste a trabajar para Matinée?: Un buen amigo me llamó un día y me preguntó si le podía hacer el favor de quedarme en su lugar en una fiesta nueva. ¿Por qué crees que Matinée sigue teniendo tanto éxito después de tantos años?: Creo que es el resultado de varios factores. Desde el punto de vista laboral, es una empresa correcta con sus trabajadores. Desde el punto de vista cultural, crea moda y exporta nuestra cultura house ibicenca a otros países. Además, en cada sesión contrata a los

mejores profesionales del mercado. ¿Cómo defines la música de Matinée?: Es un house comercial pero del más excelente y selecto. ¿Qué tipo de público podemos encontrar en las fiestas Matinée?: Matinée es una fiesta eclética, para todo el mundo. Sólo hay que tener buen rollo y querer disfrutar.

Una anécdota del trabajo: Una con la que nos reímos mucho fue cuando las sesiones eran de mañanas y yo salía sobre las 17h y a veces después me tocaba trabajar en el aeropuerto. En un embarque había unos chicos que me miraban mucho y hablaban entre ellos. Al entrar al avión uno comentaba que juraría que la misma chica que lo metió en la disco, lo metió en el avión. ¿Qué piensas de Night&Day?: Es un medio de comunicación joven que ha logrado asentarse con fuerza entre sus lectores.

A job anecdote: We laughed a lot with this one: when there were morning sessions, I used to finish at 5pm and then had to work at the airport.

While boarding, some guys were staring at me and talking among themselves.When they entered the plane, one guy said he was sure that at the boarding desk there was the same girl who was also at the entrance of the disco.

Cuando estaba en Barcelona pensaba que lo que quería era estar aquí, así que finalmente decidí venir. Lo dejé todo y lo hice. ¿A qué te dedicas?: Me encargo de una parte de la promoción de Matinée en Ibiza, más relacionada con nuestra relación con los otros locales de la isla. ¿Desde cuándo?: Desde la temporada 2009. ¿Cómo empezaste a trabajar para Matinée?: Conocía muy bien Matinée desde mi anterior etapa en Space Ibiza. Cuando Matinée hizo el cambio a Amnesia me llamaron y me propusieron esta nueva oportunidad. ¿Por qué crees que Matinée sigue teniendo tanto éxito después de tantos años?: El éxito de Matinée radica en dos puntos: el público y el equipo humano que formamos Matinée. Nuestro público es muy fiel y nos apoya porque saben lo que van a recibir.

Es un producto 100% fiable y testado. No engañamos a nadie, vienen a buscar lo que quieren y lo encuentran. Nos han demostrado su fidelidad constante con nuestra evolución y nuestros cambios. Siempre están ahí. Y en cuanto al equipo humano, lo

formamos un grupo de gente muy entregada al proyecto y tengo unos compañeros increíblemente profesionales y mucho más trabajadores todavía. Si no sintiéramos pasión por lo que hacemos, no tendríamos el éxito que tenemos. ¿Cómo defines la música de Matinée?: Realmente creo que tenemos nuestro propio estilo y sonido. Es una música muy bailable, alegre y como todas las sesiones empezamos de una manera y acaba de otra.Tenemos grandes Djs que son productores y eso exporta nuestro estilo por todo el mundo. ¿Qué tipo de público podemos entrar en las fiestas Matinée?: De todo tipo: clientes fijos, nuevos adeptos, turistas extranjeros que vienen a conocer Matinée por primera vez y muchos otros que nos siguen por nuestro World Tour y quieren ver nuestra apuesta en Ibiza. Mucho público español sobretodo y gente de la isla. Ante todo gente que quiere pasarlo bien, bailar, reír y comunicarse con el que tiene al lado. Siempre me fijo mucho en eso, nuestro público interactúa mucho entre sí. ¿Qué piensas de Night&Day?: Creo que Night&Day es una revista joven, con una evolución rápida y creciente. En muy poco tiempo se ha hecho un hueco en Ibiza y se está haciendo fuerte. Sin duda está cambiando el panorama de las revistas de la isla.

Why did you choose Ibiza?: Because I needed a change. I used to come here on holiday and at the end of it I always wanted to stay.

When I was in Barcelona I used to think I wanted to live here, and finally I decided to come. I left everything and did it.

What do you do?: I am in charge of the part of the Matinée promotion which is more related with the relationship we have with the other clubs of the island.

How long have you done it?: Since summer 2009.

How did you start working for the Matinée group?: I knew Matinée very well since previously I was working for Space Ibiza. When Matinée changed to Amnesia, they called me to offer me this new opportunity.

Why do you think Matinée is still having a big success after so many years?: There are two reasons for its success: its public and its staff. We have a very loyal public supporting us because they know what they are going to receive. It’s a 100% reliable and tested product. We don’t cheat anyone, people come to find what they want and they find it. They have showed their constant loyalty along our evolution and changes. They keep there. As

far as the team is concerned, it is made up of very committed people. I have got some incredibly professional and hard worker colleagues. If we did not feel passion for what we do, we would not have such a great success.

How would you define Matinée’s music?: I believe we have our own style and sound. It’s a very danceable, happy music. Every session starts and ends in a different way. We have great DJ’s who also produce music so they export our style all over the world.

Which kind of public can we find at the Matinée parties?: All kinds of public: regular clients, new fans, tourists who come to see Matinée for the first time and many others who follow our World Tour and want to see what we do in Ibiza. Most of the people are Spanish and from Ibiza. Our public wants to have fun, dance, laugh and talk with other people. I always pay attention to it; our public interacts a lot between them.

What do you think about Night&Day?: I think Night&Day is a young magazine which is evolving quickly. In a short time it has carved a niche in Ibiza and is becoming stronger. Certainly, it is changing the magazine world of the island.

The legend and spirit of Atlantis Many legends have been told about this magical place.

Once Atlantis was the Ibiza city wall, then with the strength of the waves it was transformed into a unique scenario made of little puddles of natural water.

Situated in front of the island of Es Vedrà, near Cala d’Hort, you can’t find it on a map so it is not so easy to find it but from the sea.

Different myths talk about Atlantis, which was described by Plato as the lost reign, and was born 15.000 years ago due to a planetary alignment.

All the artists who came here curved many sculptures and natural altars in the stone, just like the Buddha, who jealously protects the doors of Atlantis. These sculptures cause an incredible light and color show, especially at sunset.

Buddhists and Hindus used to choose this place for their spiritual meditation and contemplation, merging with the surrounding nature, and people say they used to reach such a high level of spirituality to alienate their soul from their body.

An ancient legend tells about inexplicable phenomena which took place in the caves of Atlantis, such as rays of light and energy fields. According to the tradition, those you leave a personal object in front of the cave will get good luck.

When the hippies came to Ibiza, Atlantis was transformed in a real outdoor church where every kind of religious rite was celebrated. It was a place of union and reconciliation for those who decided to get marry in this mystic peaceful place where you can only hear the sound of the waves and the warm wind blowing.

This Mediterranean island contains an oriental and exotic scent, apart from the smell of ancient Phoenicians and Greek settlers and all those who found Ibiza a peaceful place to live in.

An intense blue sea with its deep and dangerous water where it is possible to see every kind of marine fauna and is not so difficult to come across a nice dolphin.

The emblem of Atlantis is an eight-pointed star with the eye of the sea in the middle which symbolizes freedom, peace, unity and strength. Such stars are also curved in the rocks of the charming city wall.

This is the history of a wonderful landscape which was also studied by many agnostics in order to better understand spirituality.

This is the other side of Ibiza, its magical, legendary and indescribable part.

So without any guide close your eyes, light your senses and let the peace of Atlantis invade your heart.

Atlantis, leyenda y espíritu Lugar mágico donde se ha oído hablar de muchas leyendas.

Atlantis, que una vez fue la muralla de Ibiza, modelándose con la fuerza de las olas ha diseñado un escenario único, creando pequeños charcos de agua natural.

Situado en frente de la isla de Es Vedrà, cerca de Cala d’Hort, no está presente en los mapas y por lo tanto no es fácil de encontrar si no por mar. Diferentes mitos giran alrededor de Atlantis, descrita por Platón como el reino perdido, que surgieron hace 15.000 años por la alineación de los planetas.

Los artistas que han pasado por estos lugares han tallados numerosas esculturas y altares naturales en la piedra, como el Buda, que protege celosamente las puertas de Atlantis. Todos estos nos regalan un increíble espectáculo de luces y colores sobre todo a la puesta del sol.

Budistas e hindúes preferían este lugar para la meditación y la contemplación espiritual, fusionándose con la naturaleza circundante. Cuentan que llegaban a niveles de espiritualidad tan altos hasta enajenar el alma del cuerpo.

La leyenda que nos envía atrás en el tiempo nos habla de fenómenos inexplicables que ocurren en las cuevas de Atlantis, como la aparición de rayos de luz y los campos energía. Según la tradición, la buena suerte besa a los que dejan un

objeto personal delante de la cueva.

Con la llegada de los hippies a la isla de Ibiza,Atlantis se transformó en una verdadera iglesia al aire libre donde se celebraban ritos religiosos de cualquier tipo. Fue un sitio de unión y reconciliación para los muchos que decidieron casarse en este místico lugar de paz donde sólo se escucha el sonido de las olas y el viento que sopla caliente.

Una isla del Mediterráneo que tiene en sí el perfume de Oriente y de lo exótico, de los antiguos colonos fenicios, los griegos y también de todos aquellos que en Ibiza han encontrado un lugar de paz para vivir.

Un mar azul intenso con aguas profundas y peligrosas donde además es posible ver todo tipo de fauna marina y no es difícil cruzarse con un agradable delfín.

El emblema de Atlantis representa una estrella de ocho puntas con el ojo del mar en el centro que simboliza la libertad, paz, unidad y fuerza.

Dicha estrella también está tallada en las rocas de la encantadora muralla. Ésta es la historia de un paisaje maravilloso que muchos agnósticos han querido estudiar para entender mejor la espiritualidad. Ésta es la otra cara de Ibiza, su lado mágico, leyendario e indescriptible.

Entonces sin conducción cierra los ojos, enciende los sentidos y déjate atravesar por la paz de Atlantis.

Martín Traverso

Este mes presentamos la obra pictórica de Martín Traverso, joven pintor argentino afincado en Ibiza desde hace 6 años. Nacido en Buenos Aires de madre pintora, después de estudiar diseño gráfico, Traverso se decanta por la pintura, primero como experiencia íntima y después a nivel profesional.

Sus obras son testimonio de la mayor certeza de la existencia, es decir, la pulsión creadora. En sus telas conviven elementos muy distintos, recursos figurativos que acentúan lo real y que hace que su pintura transcienda la mera bidimensionalidad. Fidel a la materia y a la forma de los objetos, Traverso pinta utilizando una perspectiva renacentista, elige esos volúmenes puros que caracterizan la escultura oriental y re-

produce fielmente el mundo que le rodea.

Traverso expone por primera vez en forma individual en 1995. Sus obras se han exhibido en varias galerías de arte en distintos países, como España, Italia y Argentina.

Después de realizar viajes por diferentes países asiáticos, consigue matizar, a través de una profunda comunión con su entorno, un desarrollo pictórico en el que la variedad del uso de su técnica está determinada por la función que ejerce el reflejo de esta conciencia en el interior de su espíritu.

Constantemente inspirado por la isla en la que reside, Traverso nos ofrece con sus pinturas una celebración del deseo y proponiendo a través de ellas la salvación del hombre.

This month we want to introduce Martin Traverso’s paintings, a young Argentinian artist who is living in Ibiza since 2003. Born in Buenos Aires to a painter mother, after studying graphic design, Traverso opted for painting, first as an intimate experience and then professionally.

His works are testimony to the greater certainty of existence, which is the creative impulse. In his paintings very different elements coexist, figurative resources emphasize the real and this makes his paintings transcend the mere bidimension. Loyal to the material and the form of the objects, Traverso paints using a Renaissance perspective, select those pure volumes characteri-

zing the oriental sculpture and faithfully reproduces the world around him.

For the first time, Traverso made an individual exhibition in 1995. His works have been exhibited in several art galleries in different countries, like Spain, Italy and Argentina.

After travelling to several Asian countries, he is now able to harmonize, through a deep communion with his environment, a pictorial development in which the technique is determined by the function exercised by the reflection of this awareness within his spirit.

Constantly inspired by the island where he lives, Traverso offers us his paintings as a celebration of desire and proposes man’s salvation.

THE LIST

Lo mejor que tengo en esta vida son mis amigos, algo debo estar haciendo bien para tener esta suerte.

Hace tiempo no tenía tantos y tan buenos, una persona me dijo: “Te voy a dar un buen consejo, si lo sigues rigurosamente verás que todo cambiará”. Su teoría me dejó fascinado. Me dijo que hiciera 3 listas: una de amigos, otra de familiares y otra de objetivos a conseguir en mi vida. Cada lista con 10 nombres. Hacer la lista de amigos no fue fácil. Se trataba de ser muy consecuente con las acciones que dichos amigos tenían conmigo, es decir, basta ya de “como te quiero Max pero luego no me acuerdo de ti”. Al cabo de un tiempo la lista se ordenó sola y así yo supe a quien debía dedicar mi tiempo por justicia. Por eso, retornaba a cada uno de ellos el mismo interés que ellos mostraban por mí.

Actualmente, la primera persona de mi lista es alguien que cada día se preocupa por mí, me tiene en mente como si fuera su hermano de sangre. Ahora no hay mucha diferencia entre el 1º y el 2º, ni casi entre los 10, porque con esta lista siempre sé quien me quiere de verdad. Y lo mejor de todo es que al mirar mi lista sólo veo personas que me dan, sin esperar recibir nada a cambio. En mi caso sé que estas personas no necesitan nada de mí más que mi persona.

Dedico este articulo a mis amigos de la lista, en especial a: Jorge V, Juanjo B-B, Marta S., Albert T. y Mark R. También a mis amigos de la revista Night&Day que me dan este espacio para gritar cada mes lo que me da la gana.

The best thing I have in my life is my friends.

I must be doing something right to be so lucky.

Some time ago I didn’t have so much and good friends, then one day someone told me: “I’m going to give you a good advice; if you carefully follow it, everything will change”. I was fascinated

by his theory. He told me to make three lists: one for friends, one for relatives and another one for objectives I wanted to achieve in my life. Every list with 10 names. Making the list of my friends was not easy because I had to be consistent with what they were doing for me, which means, no more “I love you Max but then I don’t think about you”. After some time the list had an order and I knew to whom I should dedicate my time.

So I started to give back the same interest they showed me.

Currently, the first person on my list is someone who cares about me, like I was his blood brother. Now there’s no big difference between the 1st and the 2nd, neither among all the 10 because the list always tells me who really loves me. And best of all, looking at my list I can see only people who give me without expecting anything in return. Personally, I know that these people don’t need anything more from me than me.

I dedicate this article to my friends on my list, especially to Jorge V, Juanjo B-B, Marta S., Albert T. and Mark R. And also to my friends of the Night&Day magazine who give me this space every month to shout what I want.

Ahora vamos a lo nuestro: querría saber cómo estáis tratando vuestro pelo después de los consejos del mes pasado.Ya que estamos en verano, necesitáis saber cómo mantenerlo sano, fuerte, brillante, listo para estar al máximo en cualquier ocasión.

Primero, os recuerdo que hay que lavarlo delicadamente, incluso todos los días. Tened siempre un buen champú, mejor uno que os aconseje vuestro peluquero, luego un producto de proteína para dar cuerpo al pelo, que se pone después del champú.

Os aconsejo “Antisnap” de Redken, indicado para todo tipo de pelo. Es indispensable, ¡os lo aseguro!

Otra cosa muy importante son los productos solares: así como nos echamos crema para no quemarnos la piel, tenemos que acostum-

brarnos a hacer lo mismo con nuestro pelo y con el cuero cabelludo, ya que muchos chicos rapados por ahí.

No sólo el sol sino también el cloro de las piscinas, el mar y el agua del grifo con mucha cal pueden estropear vuestro pelo.

GENTE DE IBIZA - PEOPLE FROM IBIZA

Roberto Este mes en Gente de Ibiza tenemos el placer de hablar con Roberto Postiglione, conocido por su pasado en Zenith junto con Ernesto, y que este año se propone como “head promotion” del grupo Cadenza cada domingo en Pacha con la fiesta “Vagabundos”. Paralelamente ha desarrollado también otro proyecto muy interesante, un nuevo concepto de restaurante, el Fish&Soda. ¿Qué es Fish&Soda?: ¡Prácticamente un fish bar!

Con Fish&Soda queremos presentar un concepto simple y a la vez especial: un cocktail bar con esencia de mar. El perfume y el sabor del mar con la frescura y la ligereza del pescado y el marisco, acompañados por un buen mojito o una sangría de champán. Es ésta nuestra apuesta. Nos inspiramos en recetas sencillas, típicas de los pequeños restaurantes de mar de antaño, en un espacio cuidado

y estiloso. ¿A qué público os dirigís?: A los que siempre se quejan porque comen mal y gastan mucho. ¿Con quién desarrollas este proyecto?: Con el ángel de Ibiza, Pamela (véase N&D Junio). ¿Cuál es la especialidad de la casa?: El menú es sencillo y muy reducido porque ¡queremos que todo sea especial! Sin embargo, puedo mencionar como plato estrella los mejillones con distintas salsas servidos en una olla grande.

El pescado frito también es excelente y sin duda os aconsejo los “paccheri” (un tipo de pasta) con marisco. ¿Dónde se encuentra el Fish& Soda?: En el paseo del puerto, justo en frente de donde salen los barcos para Formentera.

Un lugar de gran paso pero con un panorama siempre sugestivo como el puerto y el castillo.

Proyectos para el fu-

turo: Muchos… pero primero quiero consolidar los actuales que son el Fish&Soda y la fiesta Vagabundos en el Pacha. ¿Cuál es la fórmula ganadora de la fiesta “Vagabundos”?: Los últimos 25 años he trabajado en la gestión, creación y sobre todo promoción de eventos musicales. Este año he empezado una aventura muy bonita con mis amigos Samuel y Luciano Cadenza.

Con mucha euforia se ha elaborado un concepto, dibujado un plan y juntado elementos muy válidos.

Todo esto ha ocurrido de una forma muy natural.

Creo que en esta isla, donde los piratas ya están pasados de moda, el espíritu que nos acomuna a todos es el de los vagabundos. Vivir sin espacios ni demasiados clichés siempre a la búsqueda de lo que más nos gusta.

Aparte de esto, pienso que la fórmula es a la vez sencilla y genial. Interactuar, invo-

lucrar y estar siempre presentes. Dar muchos puntos de referencia dentro y fuera de Pacha. Un estilo “old fashion” que sostiene una revolución musical. Luciano es un genio y todos los artistas de Cadenza tienen algo sin identificar... muy especial. Son frescos y van por arriba. En fin creo que cada uno de nosotros, así como todos los miembros y colaboradores del evento “Vagabundos” está realmente entregando lo mejor de sí mismo. El resultado es un grupo fantástico, con ideas, experiencias, contactos y grandes prospectivas.

Es todo un placer ser parte de esto. ¡Vamos Vagabundos! ¿Qué piensas de N&D?: Creo que es una revista muy dinámica. Está en todos los lados. Deja espacio a personas e iniciativas que merecen ser conocidas… ¿Qué más se puede pedir? ¡Ciao a todos!

Postiglione This month in People from Ibiza we have the pleasure of talking to Roberto Postiglione, known for his past at Zenith together with Ernesto. This year he is the head promoter of the Cadenza group for the “Vagabundos” party every Sunday at Pacha.

At the same time, he has developed another very interesting project: the Fish&Soda, a new restaurant concept.

What is Fish&Soda?: In practice it is a fish bar!

With Fish&Soda we want to present a simple but special concept: a cocktail bar with sea scent.

The scent and flavor of the sea together with the freshness and lightness of fish and seafood, accompanied by a good mojito or a sangría made of champagne. We bet on it. We are inspired by simple recipes, which are typical of the ancient little restaurants by the sea, in a nice and stylish place.

Which kind of customers are you addressing to?: To those who always complaint because the food is not good and they spend too much.

Who is your partner in this project?: The Ibiza angel, Pamela (see N&D June).

Which is your specialty?: Our menu is simple and quite reduced because we want everything to be special!

However, I think our best dish is mussels with different sauces which are served in a huge pot.

Fried fish is also excellent and I also recommend the “paccheri” (a type of pasta) with seafood.

Where is it located?: Along the harbor promenade, just in front of where the ships to Formentera leave. It is a busy place, although it always offers a suggestive view over the harbor and the castle.

Your plans for the future: Many… but first

of all, I want to consolidate the current ones, which are the Fish&Soda and the “Vagabundos” party at Pacha .

Which is the winning formula of the “Vagabundos” party?: I have spent the last 25 years managing, creating and above all promoting musical events. This year I have begun a new, beautiful adventure with my friends Samuel and Luciano Cadenza. We have elaborated this concept with a lot of euphoria, drawn a plan and put together very good elements. It all has been very natural. I think on this island, where pirates are not in vogue anymore, we all have a tramp soul. We want to live without barriers or too many clichés looking for what we like the most. Apart from that, I think our formula is simple and genial. Interacting, involving and always being there. Offering many of

reference points inside and outside the Pacha.

It’s an old-fashioned style that supports a musical revolution. Luciano is a genius and all the artists of the Cadenza group have something you can’t define… They are really special! They are fresh and are always improving. Finally, I believe we have given the best of us. All the members and collaborators of the “Vagabundos” event are also giving their best.

The result is a wonderful group with ideas, experiences, contacts and great prospects. It is a real pleasure being part of it! Go on, Vagabundos!

What do you think about N&D?: I think it is a very dynamic magazine. It is almost everywhere. It offers space for people and events that deserve to be known…

Cala boix

Continuando por el camino entre las playas de Ibiza estamos en Cala Boix, a 5 km de Sant Carles de Peralta y a poca distancia del centro de Santa Eulalia del Río. Cala Boix una de las playas más escondidas de Ibiza y se compone de 160 m de arena suave y dorada, bañada por aguas cristalinas y transparentes.

Todas las colinas que rodean la cala rocosa la protegen de las corrientes de los vientos, haciendo de ella una playa con aguas tranquilas, ideal para los que practican snorkeling. La transición para llegar a este pequeño rincón de paraíso es una escalera tallada en la roca desde la que se puede disfrutar de la vista de esta playa desértica y preciosa.

El paisaje está lleno de colores y olores, gracias a los pinos que bordean la caleta alrededor. En la playa las sombrillas de paja ofrecen un poco de sombra y definen el paisaje. Éste es el lugar adecuado si quieres un poco de relajación y tranquilidad, un lugar fascinante como una tarjeta postal con las aguas azules rompiendo en la orilla y dibujando una escena inolvidable.

Gracias también a varios restaurantes de la zona, Cala Boix se convirtió en un sitio con una oferta gastronómica típica muy aconsejable. ¿Qué más se puede pedir? Un rincón de cielo azul, mar transparente y buena comida, todo acompañado por la atmósfera envolvente de Ibiza.

Following the path along the Ibiza beaches we find ourselves in Cala Boix, 5km off Sant Carles de Peralta and near the center of Santa Eulalia del Río. Cala Boix is one of the more hidden Ibiza beaches and is made of 160m of smooth golden sand, surrounded by crystal-clear and transparent water.

From there you can enjoy the view over the desert and beautiful beach.

The landscape is colorful and smellful, thanks to the pine trees surrounding the little cove. On the beach you can find shelter under the straw sunshades which define the landscape.

This is the right place for relaxing and finding peace, a fascinating beach which seems a postcard with the blue water breaking the shore and drawing an unforgettable scenery.

Thanks to the presence of several restaurants, Cala Boix offers a very advisable typical gastronomy. What more can you ask for? Here you have a corner with a blue sky, transparent sea and good food, accompanied by the cosy Ibiza atmosphere.

¿Cómo te llamas?: Christian Braun ¿De dónde eres?: He nacido en Munich,Alemania. ¿Desde cuánto tiempo estás en Ibiza?: Desde 1987. ¿Cuál es tu conexión con la isla?: He crecido aquí, es donde tengo mi hogar y el sitio con el que sueño para vivir. ¿Es grande la comunidad alemana en Ibiza?: Sí, es bastante grande pero para mí lo interesante es la mezcla cultural. ¿A qué te dedicas?: Me dedico a organizar los negocios que tenemos en Ibiza: Residencia Casa Munich, que es nuestro niño mimado desde hace 23 años; Nassau Beach Club, que se encuentra en su tercera temporada, y MuChri-Design, que es nuestro nombre artístico para el diseño y construcción de alto standing. What’s your job?: I organize the businesses we have in Ibiza: the Casa Munich guest house, which is been our spoiled child since 23 years; Nassau Beach Club, created three years ago, and MuChri-Design, which is our nickname for high standing design and building. What is Nassau?: It is the Beach Club of the moment. It was created three years ago when we noticed Playa d’en Bossa’s potential. Our goal was creating a cosy but also elegant and stylish Beach Club. We wanted to offer Ibiza, international and Asiatic cuisine.

Where is it?: In the southern part of the island, in the natural park of Ses Salines, just few minutes from the beach.

Casa Munich no is not only a guest house; it’s much more than that. Which could the program for the perfect day at Casa Munich be?: You can get up and make a work out in the new gym. ¿De dónde eres?: Nací en la ciudad de La Plata en Buenos Aires (Argentina). ¿Desde hace cuánto tiempo estás en Ibiza?: Más de 6 años. ¿Por qué decidiste quedarte aquí?: Enseguida me enamoré de la isla y me sentí muy cómodo con su gente y su ritmo de vida. Antes vivía en Barcelona que es una ciudad maravillosa, pero el cambio a Ibiza me gustó. ¿A qué te dedicas?: Soy diseñador en comunicación visual. ¿Qué ventajas y desventajas tiene trabajar en un lugar con tanto peso como Pacha?: La ventaja es trabajar para una empresa fuerte y con nivel. Las desventajas se superan, para mí es el afán por perfeccionar y renovar la imagen, la comunicación y el servicio de Pacha cada año.

Diferencias entre Argentina e Ibiza: Hay muchas diferencias y también similitudes pero no se puede comparar un país tan grande con el ritmo de Ibiza. ¿Crees que en Ibiza hay libertad de expresión?: Sí, creo que hay libertad de expresión.

Se puede decir y hacer sin molestar ni ofender, ahí está la libertad. ¿Piensas que Ibiza ha cambiado con los años?: Sí y mucho. Ibiza

ha crecido y modificado su estilo de día y noche, fiestas y público. ¿Tienes un sueño que quieres lograr?: Sueños tengo muchos. Tu opinión sobre el ambiente gay ibicenco: El ambiente gay en Ibiza es como la isla misma: muy movido en verano y muy tranquilo en invierno.

Si tengo que ir a un bar gay, prefiero el Soap, o el Dome en verano y Soto y El 22 todo el año. Un paseíto por la calle de la Virgen es un clásico por la zona gay de Ibiza. La disco gay por excelencia es Anfora y la fiesta más gay Scandal. ¿Qué piensas de Night&Day Magazine?: Night&Day es una revista que crece con los años. Espero que perdure por muchos años y siga siendo útil como hasta ahora.

Why did you decided to stay here?: I immediately felt in love with the island and felt really comfortable with the people and their lifestyle.

I used to live in Barcelona which is a wonderful city but I liked to move to Ibiza.

What do you do?: I am a designer in visual communication.

What are the pros and cons of working in a place with a lot of weight like Pacha?: The main advantage is working for a strong company of such level. Disadvantages can be overcome, for me it is the desire to improve and renew Pacha’s image, communication and service every year.

Differences between Argentina and Ibiza: There are a lot of differences and also similarities although you cannot compare such a huge country as Argentina with the Ibiza lifestyle.

Do you think in Ibiza there is freedom of expression?: Yes, I believe there is freedom of expression. You can say and do anything without bothering, that’s freedom.

Do you think Ibiza has

changed over the years?: Yes, a lot. Ibiza has grown and modified its style at day and night, its parties and public.

Have you got a dream to fulfill?: I have got many dreams. I keep them to nourish my life because I can’t live without them.

A romantic dinner or a crazy night with friends: I like both. Finally, I choose another crazy night with my friends!

A quiet cove or a beach club with music: Definitely, the beach club with music, beautiful people and a funny atmosphere.

Your favorite place in the world: Now I prefer Ibiza which is giving me the best moments.

Your opinion about the Ibiza gay scene: The Ibiza gay scene is like the island itself: very moved in summer and very quiet in winter.

Regarding gay bars, I choose Soap or the Dome in summer and Soto and El 22 the rest of the year. A short walk down calle de la Virgen is also a classic.

The quintessential gay club is Anfora and the gay party Scandal.

What do you think Night&Day about Magazine?: Night&Day is a growing magazine. I hope it will last for many years and keep being as useful as until now.

Welcome to Ibiza & Formentera Operation What is it?

Our hostesses will ask all the passengers waiting for their luggage if they want to participate in our competition so they can win real prices. Those who agree must provide their personal data, such as mobile number, address and e-mail.

We will give them a welcome kit with a N&D magazine (including the Terms and Conditions of the competition) and a special scratch card .They can win many prizes like a return ticket to Formentera with Trasmapi Balearia, free tickets for different clubs such as Eden, Space, Amnesia, Privilege, Es Paradis, a dinner in one the best restaurants of the islands and a bonus to rent a car(BK Rent a Car).

In order to complete the card participants must do different things in the places supporting the initiative.
