From the CommanderDear Steel Rain Family, It’s spring again, but depending on where you are in the world, that may not mean a whole lot to you right now (sorry to those in the Northern portions of America). Here in Korea, the weather continues to warm up, the grass is turning green, and the flowers are beginning to bloom. With spring comes longer days, warm breezes, and a chance to finally shake off those winter blues. As I open this letter, I ask that you keep the millions of people affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan in your hearts and in your prayers. We were fortunate not to receive any of the aftershocks and following waves here in Korea, but that should not keep us from thinking about those people who lives were devastated and continue to be affected by that great tragedy. Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, I’m
sure you are well aware that the unit move that was originally planned for this summer will not be occurring this year. This has caused a ripple effect that directly af-
fects each and every member of the Steel Rain family. Many of our Soldiers have had their DEROS extended by as many as five months. This means more time away from the loved ones that dearly wish they were returning home. 1SG Piersol and I make a promise to each and every one of you that we will do our best to mitigate the additional stress placed on families to the best of our abilities and that we will reunite you with your Soldier as soon as we can. If you have any ques-
tions or concerns about the extensions, please feel free to e-mail me at darwin.maull@korea.army.mil. The month of April will be an exciting one for the Steel Rain battery. The Second Infantry Division will hold its annual Warrior Friendship Week where U.S. Soldiers, KATUSAs, and some of our ROK Army counterparts get together for a week of friendly competition in various sporting events. Even more exciting is that the Steel Rain Battery will be heading to Rocket Valley, for the first time in six months, in order to do what we do best: put steel on target! The battalion will conduct a live fire exercise that will enable us to certify our Soldiers on the MOS tasks and ensure that we are truly ready to “Fight Tonight!” V/R CPT(P) Darwin E.
