Someday is Today – Live Your Bucket List – Are there things in your life that you’ve wanted to accomplish but haven’t? You know they would bring you joy and fulfillment, but are always put on the back burner because “life happens?” Do you say things like, “I’ll do that someday,” but that day never comes? If so, you may need to work on your bucket list – a list of things you’d like to accomplish or experience in your lifetime. Remember, you only live once! Come and learn the benefits of goal setting throughout life, and strategies for creating your own bucket list so you can say, “Someday is Today!”

Financial File Cabinet Too Full?- Having a system to categorize financial documents can help you think through what is the best way to store your financial documents. In this program, learn what to keep and what to throw away; be able to find financial documents when you need them in the future and explore ways to inform trusted individuals about financial and legal documents. Organic, Local, Natural: What it is? What it isn’t? – Organic, local, and natural are buzzwords we hear all the time. In this lesson, we’ll explain what these terms really mean. We’ll update you on the science and discuss whether organic, local, and natural foods are really better for you and the environment. Friday, May 19 • 9:00am-1:00pm • Lunch: $5, Program only: NO COST, pre-registration is required. For more information, please call 847-588-8420.

APAHM Community Movie Presentation - Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000, PG-13, 180min) This is the story of two women, both capable fighters, whose fates intertwine during the Ching Dynasty. One of them tries passionately to break free from the constraint society has placed upon her, even if it means giving up her aristocratic privileges for a life of crime and passion. The other, in her lifelong pursuit of justice and honor, only too late discovers the consequences of unfulfilled love. Hershey Felder as Tchaikovsky at the Royal George Theatre (Anticipate minimal walking) Returning to The Royal George Theatre is celebrated playwright, pianist, and composer Hershey Felder presenting Our Great Tchaikovsky. Felder’s newest work takes on Russia’s most celebrated and perhaps most mysterious composer, Tchaikovsky, in a time-bending story of culture and politics that explores the mystery around some of the greatest music ever composed. Among Tchaikovsky’s masterworks are Romeo and Juliet, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, The Nutcracker; Violin Concerto, Piano Concerto No. 1, Rococo Variations for Cello; the 1812 Overture and Marche Slav; the opera Eugene Onegin; the Symphony no. 6, Pathétique, and so many more. Of the last symphony, his Pathétique, Tchaikovsky said: “Let them guess what it means...” Nine days after he conducted that symphony’s premiere in St. Petersburg as a healthy man, at the age of 53, the great composer was dead. The 30th Annual Community Paint-A-Thon will be held in September 2017. While the date is a long way off, applications are now available! To qualify, homes must be owned and occupied by people with limited financial resources. The home owner must be at least 60 years of age or have a permanent disability or be a veteran of any age. Once a home is determined eligible, volunteer teams are matched to do the scraping, priming and painting of the house. The Community Paint-A-Thon covers ten townships including Barrington, Elk Grove, Hanover, Maine, New Trier, Niles, Northfield, Palatine, Schaumburg, and Wheeling. Current Homeowners Insurance is also required. For general information or to receive an application for the Paint-A-Thon, call the Senior Center at 847-588-8420. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Annette Sommer at HandsOn Suburban Chicago at annette@handsonsuburbanchicago.org.
