ME + EATING // Obesity in America // 18
AMERICANS EAT TOO MUCH GREASY FOOD.
Obesity in America When I came to America I saw a lot people are obese. I think in Taiwan we also have obesity people but the percentages of obesity are lower than United States. A lot of Americans are too heavy and they can not walk by themselves so they rely on the wheelchairs. It was really shock for me when I saw this. I am not thin in my country but I am thin in America. When I talk to other Americans they all think I am thin because they do not have the same views about being overweight. That is why I want to mention about this issue and want to figure out what kinds of reasons cause this situation.

IT IS TOO EASY TO GAIN WEIGHT IN AMERICA. My fat belly I have studied in American almost two years and my weight has gained almost 20 lbs. It is a big problem for me because I can not wear the clothes or pants which I brought from my hometown. I found out I gained weight without noticing it. I think because I am too lazy to cook so I always dine out. The foods in the restaurants are greasier than food I cook by myself. I also think the other reason is the portion size is totally different here but I was not aware of it. I always eat the whole meal and consume too many calories than I need in a day. For example If I go to the Panda Express, the portion size for the Togo box is 1 1/2 times bigger than Taiwan’s Togo box. That mean if I eat whole meal from Panda Express I still consume more than 1 1/2 times more calories for my regular calories I need in one meal. These reasons caused me gain weight and change my eating habits.
ME + EATING // Greasy food culture // 22
THE FIRST CHOICE IS TASTY, NOT HEALTHY. Greasy food culture I think Americans really like to eat greasy foods and when they see the shining oils showing on the foods they will think it equals deliciousness. Americans like eat high calorie food such as hamburgers, pizza and French fries. People in America used to eat these greasy foods and it is part of their eating culture. When they see greasy bacon they won’t worry how many calories they might eat. They just think bacon mean deliciousness and they just love it. The popular food in the restaurant are all unhealthy and high calories so I think that is why people in America are more obese than other countries. I can find out why the popular fast food companies such as McDonald, KFC, and Wendy burger most come from United States. These chain–like fast food enterprise not just sell the junk food but also popularize America greasy food culture. It is change other countries eating habits and people are easy to gain weight in unhealthy ways.

PEOPLE EAT WHAT THEY WANT TO EAT.
Our eating habits I found out there are different kinds of people who have different problems about their own eating habits and they are concerned in different ways but they still do not know how to improve their problems. We can know how do people think about their eating habits. I think we can know different opinions from different people and can find out some viewpoints are we never find out. It is very important for us to know the problem in different ways. I think they all have same issue is they know they have some bad eating habits but they do not know how to change these eating habits.

IT IS A FACT BUT ALSO VERY CRUEL.
We need to know Gallup and Healthways ask at least 1,000 Americans each day about their health behaviors. Specifically, respondents are asked to report on whether they smoke, on how many days in the last week they exercised for at least 30 minutes, if they ate healthy all day “yesterday,” and on how many days they consumed five or more servings of fruits and vegetables in the last seven days. Americans’ eating habits are the culprit in the lower Healthy Behaviors Index score. Fewer Americans reported eating healthily in May this year than did so last year, 66.2 vs. 68.2. Similarly, Americans are not eating as many fruits and vegetables on a weekly basis as they did last year. These data reveal that about 4.5 million fewer American adults ate healthy in May this year than did in the same month one year ago.

The problems they can cause are increased appetite, depression, allergies, etc.

Popcorn is one of the world’s most popular confections, frequently enjoyed in ballparks, movie theaters and at home. Popcorn makers sell three billion bags of microwave popcorn every year. However, some doctors and consumer groups have been concerned that a chemical used to give microwave popcorn its tasty butter flavor may pose a serious health hazard.
EATING FOR LIFE, NOT EATING FOR DEATH. Microwave popcorn is toxic because of the chemical is called diacetyl, and it’s used in the production of microwave popcorn, but it has also likely led to scores of factory workers developing a severe lung condition. Diacetyl occurs naturally in some foods, including butter and many dairy products, fruits, wine and beer. It’s reportedly used in “thousands” of food products to add or increase butter flavoring. Hundreds of factory workers have developed a condition called “popcorn lung,” also known by the medical name bronchiolitis obliterans. The condition is caused by inhalation of diacetyl fumes, which cause scarring in the lungs. Sufferers of popcorn lung have difficulty exhaling, and when severe, the condition can be fatal. In many cases of severe bronchiolitis obliterans, only a lung transplant will save a patient’s life. Some former popcorn factory workers died while waiting for transplants.

Simple Ways to Eat Less What you eat is important, but even healthy food can stop you from losing weight if you eat too much of it. Nowadays the food portion is bigger than pass so I think it is also important to know how to eat the right portion size. I never recommend extreme calorie restriction, but there are some tricks you can use to slightly reduce the amount of food you eat without feeling deprived, or even really noticing. Your brain is easily fooled by shifts in perspective. It’s also more responsive to external cues like an empty plate, than internal cues like a full stomach. Understanding

Eat Healthier Fast Food
PEOPLE EAT HEALTHIER AT HOME THAN WHEN THEY EAT OUT.
Much-loved fast food. How can you eat in a healthy way? Fast food or fast food and favorite food is easily found when we are out of the house. The downside is the food is not healthy foods, less nutrition, and many contain chemicals, and even earned the nickname as junk food or junk food. A variety of fast food outlets or fast-food restaurant offers American fried chicken, nuggets, burgers, sausage, or meatballs. And the food has become a preferred food of children and even adults. Savory flavors of the food makes us happy to eat it. No wonder if at the mall, a restaurant that sells food is crowded. Unfortunately, these foods are not healthy foods. Fat content that makes a person suffering from high cholesterol and obesity, additional ingredients that can damage the body, and very few fibers are a few things that make these foods are not recommended for health. Because you may not completely avoid fast food or fast food, then

ENJOY A LEANER HEALTHIER BODY!
Changing our Eating habits We are bombarded with advertisements pushing delicious looking, fat filled, and obesity producing food in our faces every single day. We hear it on the radio; see it on TV and on billboards and even in newspapers. We go on a diet and try to totally turn our eating habits around. We go from eating hamburgers, French fries, pizza, hot dogs, and other junk to eating lettuce and drinking water. If we are really disciplined we make it a week or so. But like most people, we are back to our old habits within days. The change is just too drastic and makes it next to impossible for us to stick to our diets. I want to use different ways to let people have good viewpoints when they are eating. There have five different main problems from the people and I follow these problem design the different ways to solve the issues. People can change their eating habits to the right ways.

NUTRITION FACTS MAKE PEOPLE CONFUSED AND CRAZY. SOLUTION :
USE EASY–TO–UNDERSTAND VISUAL ICON SYSTEM FOR NUTRITION FACTS Along with other large food companies, Unilever has introduced an extended nutrition information system which will make it easier for people to select a balanced diet. This system of nutritional information is based on international dietary guidelines for the average daily amount of calories and nutrients that people need — known as Guideline Daily Amounts (GDA). According to this information, a simple icon system proves people understand the nutrition facts more easily. Based on the information, I would design icons that show six of the most important nutrition facts, and I would use simple images so they are understandable for everyone. People can see the percentages of one day they need so they can know how much they consumed.
