Overcoming Temptations
by Josh Vincent Sobrecaray and Job Dominic Sobrecaray
Games, sleep, food, money these are some things that can tempt you from doing what you should really be doing. What is temptation? According to Wikipedia: “Temptation is the desire to perform an action that one may enjoy immediately or in the short term but will probably later regret for various reasons: legal, social, psychological (including feeling guilt), health-related, economic, etc.”. In the context of religion, temptation is the inclination to sin. Everybody has a weakness like children, teens, adults and even animals. Children around the world are mostly tempted by games, toys and playing on the other hand adults are mostly tempted with rest and money. Teens on the other hand are mostly tempted with music, love, novels celebrities, etc. While the animals like dogs are also tempted with bones and playing. Temptation is normal, they say. How does it become abnormal then? When do we know it’s become so bad that we
can’t finish our own homework and our daily chores? Well, listen up. The first thing on overcoming a temptation is to focus and concentrate on what are you doing. Because if you don’t, you may wanna regret it later. If you are inside a store running an errand for your parents, focus on what they requested you to do, you can do more for yourself after you’ve done the task. Go straight to it. No excuses, even for that “mallwide sale”. Step two: don’t believe your evil conscience cause it may lead to laziness. You hear that tiny little voice in your head telling you to sleep for five more minutes instead of challenging yourself to get to school early for the exams? That voice is not always right. Follow what’s right. Be mindful, because you will be rewarding yourself with good results. Step three do not overthink or stress out. It may distract you on doing something. Don’t panic because you have too many wrong answers during the last exam and your other classmates got better scores. If there’s one thing that will keep your scores low, it’s called “feeling low”. So don’t feel down. There’s always a new day. Try not to compare yourself to others so much. And the most important step of all is: Do not adapt the habit called, The Manana habit. Any idea what it is? No? Search it and learn about it now. Or forever hold your peace. Don’t assume we’re perfect for telling you all of this. It just means we have enough guilt to share what we know can help out. So what is your temptation? Whatever it is, be responsible for controlling them. Like they say, it’s amazing what you can do when you try. Good luck!
Finding inspiration through Music by Alexandra Mikaela Nicole Labor
Every music genre has its own meaning. Others can relate on songs that they want to hear every single day. Others wish to release their emotions through it. Like these people, I feel the same way about music. I started to become a music lover when I heard my first favorite song. I started to like music, not because of the tune but it’s lyrics and melody that give meaning to it. The saying “Music is freedom of expression.” is what I agreed most. Some people say
that music is just a song sung by a singer, but in my own opinion, they can be quite wrong. Music, for me, is an expression of someone’s feelings about happenings. Music is art because of that. It gives life to dull things. For me, music is amazing in a way that it is a lot like life itself --just be on the right track and everything goes on. Others also think “Music is my religion.” When this is taken literally, this is a point of music lovers that people can’t understand. What I understand about music is that it’s the melody of one’s life. You see, music is now useful in our lives. It helps us forget, move on and carry on. But most of all, it inspires us to have hope.
Around the world memory by Amethyst Grace Valeroso
Where are you off to? Yes, you. Do you often think of travelling farther than where you are right now? Well, you should. Travelling anywhere at any place is just like opening a new chapter in life. You discover more things, meet new friends, find out more about life, even if you only travel around your own country. You can still find many new things. You might even find the ones who will make you feel special and comfortable --- the ones who
truly matter. The joy of travelling can open up a new perspective. Once you’ve reached your destinations, one thing that will never leave your mind are the memories. You can always do it with stories, with novels, with movies and through art, but nothing really beats actually hopping onto that bus, boat or train and just let it take you where you need to go. So again, where are you off to? Go ahead. Make memories.
