The Pupil Supreme Government (PSG) of SEC - Montessori visited the Residential Center for Street Children in Barangay Anomar, Surigao City for their annual outreach program last December 18, 2012. The officers, along with the SEC - Montessori teachers, schoolmates and PTA President, Mrs. Maricel Esparrago, gave a short Christmas program for the children and sang different Christmas songs. A gift - giving session also took place after all the children were given free meals. Teacher Rosalie Arceta, the SEC Montessori PSG Adviser, said that this event will further enhance the social skills of the officers and help them to become more aware of our society’s problems. “I think there should be something like this every year. Young as we are, we all want to lend a helping hand whenever we can, especially during the Christmas season.”, remarked Zoie Bonite, the PSG Business manager.
Let’s bring out our “inner chef”! Last July 2012, Surigao Education Center - Montessori continued its annual celebration for Nutrition Month with the hands-on activities, involving all SEC Montessorians in different cooking activities. Each grade level participated in Sandwich-Making, Fruit and Vegetable Salad - Making, and had a “Lunch Together” with their respective advisers. Mini contests were held for the fourth, fifth and sixth graders for their cooking activities which took place at the SEC Montessori Mini Amphitheater. The judges took samples of the Montessorians’ finished products and gave the results to their grade level advisers. As for the Nutrition Month 2012 Opening, the annual “Hataw” for Physical Fitness was pushed through. Games involving the use of healthy food were also done by grade level. This school year’s Nutrition Month coordinators were Teacher Liezl and Teacher Yan.
Boodle Fight boosts Camping 2012 A boodle fight was held for the first time on the morning of the second day of Camping 2012 last October 26 and 27, 2012 at the SEC Montessori grounds. A boodle fight is a military-style of eating meals with rice and viands on a freshly - cut banana leaf. Each team, the North Merillians, Sphinx Troopers and Eurasians were given an entire table of breakfast meals. All teams were given no time limit, as long as they all started at the same time. The first team to finish eating everything served on their table is declared the winner. The Sphinx Troopers was the winning team for Camping 2012’s first Boodle Fight. “We need more of these contests. It’s very challenging and healthy at the same time.”, said Teacher Yan. The Boodle Fight 2012 ended successfully.
