Last October 26, 2012, during the World Children’s Month Culmination, the SEC Montessorian dance group “New Day” had their first dance debut. Originally composed of seventeen SEC Montessori pupils coming from different grade levels, the group has grown into twenty three members. The group was initially formed by participants of the Intramurals’ Street Dance 2012 and the senior Wanna Be dancers. The group’s name is taken from a song by Alicia Keys entitled, “New Day” which sends a message that there will always be a new day to work hard, correct your mistakes and be challenged, in order for everyone to achieve their dreams. This was the also the first song that this dance group used during their very first dance presentation together. The group also noteably performed during the Division Schools Press Conference 2012 at Surigao City Central Elementary School in front of a crowd of campus journalists and school paper advisers. Recently, New Day, along with seven new members, gave another dance presentation during the MAPEH Month 2013 Culminating Program. They danced to Girls’ Generation’s “I Got A Boy”, a remix of popular hip-pop songs, and revived their “New Day” dance. The reviews for the dance group has, so far, been positive. It is still yet to be decided if the group shall continue to perform for the upcoming school years, especially with some members graduating and moving on to highschool. Videos of the group’s performances have been uploaded in youtube.com. Their first official group t-shirts’ design was created by Teacher Jay-R Besing. The group’s dance instructor is Teacher NiñaJade R. Millano.
