RESUME RESUME

PERSONAL I currently work as a Project Consultant Landscape Architect at LDA Design, whilst studying for my MA in Landscape Architecture. I have high exposure to a diverse range of projects, which include residential developments, business parks, park restoration, development and regeneration, and urban and public realm. I have good experience working on design codes, preparing detailed general arrangement plans, landscape drawings, construction details, masterplan rendering, detailed sectional elevations, open space strategies, play area strategies, hard and soft material typologies, and producing specifications, at outline preliminary stage to reserved matters, planning, and tender stages. I have a keen eye for detail and story-telling, which are skills I apply both to the visual representation aspects of the work I produce. This can be seen in the presentations, documents, signage, and infographics I have produced.

SOUTHBANK, PETERBOROUGH Southbank in Peterborough was the main focus for Major Design Project during my Postgraduate level. The project theme was waterfront regeneration, for which I produced a feasibility study, technical study and design and access statement. The project focuses around bringing life to the rivers edge, and using the space to connect a corridor of green space along the river by designing a central park for the people of Peterborough.

PORT CITY, AMSTERDAM

This project is based around the port area of Amsterdam. Following the theme of bringing the city alive through various methods of green infrastructure approaches, I designed a masterplan to respond to creating a destination to the north-west of the city, and revive the industrial waterfront to focus on social living. The project site is split into five zones, where I focused on capturing the character in each through various green infrastructure related solutions.

SELECTED WORKS

BREWERY PARK, LEEDS This urban design project allowed me to explore my ability to respond to opportunities for a city park in Leeds. I created a strong connection between north and south Leeds through green corridors, shared public spaces, and an improved transportation infrastracture, allowing the park to be an anchor for community life and creative interaction.

SOUTHBANK SITE INFORMATION POSTGRADUATE

The proposed site for major redevelopment is situated in central Peterborough, adjacent to the River Nene and within proximity of the city centre. The shape of the site is almost rectangular, with four sensitive boundaries. The north side is bounded by the river, with Frank Perkins Parkway (A1139) east, London Road (A15) west, and the Ely to Peterborough railway line bounding the south of the site. Within the bounds stated, the majority of the site area has previously been developed and vacated, making it a brownfield zone.

EMBANKMENT

CITY CENTRE

8

The site in its current situation is un-used and inaccessible. The site has not been maintained for any purpose and has previously been vandalised with graffiti in various locations. The Grade I Listed buildings and Flour Mill are vacant and have fallen to ill repair. There is no natural surveillance to the site, and it radiates a poor urban quality to the immediate context of the site and the city centre.

AMSTERDAM SITE INFORMATION POSTGRADUATE

The Netherlands, located on the coast of the North Sea, is a prosperous and uniquely cultured country. The name ‘Netherlands’ was inspired due to the country’s flat geography, with only 50% of land exceeding 1m above sea level. The country is known for highly liberal views and laws, and the advanced engineering involved in reclaiming land a mitigating floods.

Amsterdam, the capital of Netherlands, is located in the north-west of the country, with approximately over 2 million inhabitants within the greater metropolitan area. Shown below is an aerial of the city, divided into eight municipal districts. The chosen site for this study is in Westpoort, located approximately 3km away from Amsterdam Central Station. The red line boundary on the aerial to the right shows the site, approximately 470 hectares in size.

BREWERY PARK BREWERY PARK, LEEDS Year 3

This intensive specialist design project is based in central Leeds. The project focuses on connecting shared spaces, and creating an exploratory waterfront experience. The site is situated in South Leeds, sitting below the River Aire. The former brewery was founded in 1822 by Joshua Tetley, and then was taken over by Carlsberg in 1998. Demolished in 2012, the area has become a temporary parking lot, leaving behind the original art-deco style administration building. Surrounding the brewery, is a mix of retail outlets, mixed-use residential space, and offices.

GOTTS PARK COMMUNITY GARDEN GOTTS PARK COMMUNITY GARDEN Year 3

Gotts Park is located in Upper Armley, West Leeds. It is home to a local golf course, Benjamin Gotts’ estate and the walled garden. Designed by Humphrey Repton in 1820, the walled garden once provided fruit and vegetables for Armley House. After WWII, the walled garden was famously known as a local attraction due to its exceptional display of roses. The site today remains vacant, used as a recreational walking route with the occasional occurrence of anti-social behaviour. The site is now being proposed as a new public community garden to be maintained in partnership with The Conservation Volunteers.

GOTTS PARK COMMUNITY GARDEN COMMUNITY CONSULTATION

Consultation with the community was an important factor in this public realm project. A planned consultation took place in Armley on the 8th October 2012, at the Copper Kettle Cafe. Prior to the consultation, flyers were designed and displayed locally to communicate the event. An online survey and Facebook group were also setup for those unable to attend. The main consultation was based around active involvement from the community, by having them input their opinions onto cocktail stick tags, and placing them onto a map of Armley.

50

FEEDBACK RESULTS Using a mixture of approaches in our consultation, a quality response was achieved from the community which assisted in producing well-informed design responses.

51

GOTTS PARK COMMUNITY GARDEN DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

CONCEPT Armley has a rich heritage and reputation related to milling. This was used as inspiration to design a connected and fluid site, achieving character through ‘weaving’ spaces.

TORO CREEK NATURE PARK TORO CREEK NATURE PARK, USA Year 2

This project examines a decommissioned oil facility located just off of Highway 1, and north of Morro Bay in San Luis Obispo county. The site is located south of Toro Creek and it’s estuary as it flows into the Pacific Ocean. The terminal received crude oil from interior valley oil production facilities and loaded it into ships for transport from the 1930’s until 1999. This project interprets and applies understanding of environmental and ecological issues, in order to plan and design within the natural and built systems found in and around the Toro Creek Watershed. Emphasising recreation and education, this design proposal offers a nature park open for public and private use that integrates and respects its local surroundings.
