NUSTAR RESUMES FULL SERVICE AT ST JAMES FOLLOWING IDA DESTRUCTION

NuStar Energy has resumed full service at its crude terminal in St James, Louisiana, after power was fully restored to the facility. NuStar is “still working through a few minor items, but all functionality is restored to the terminal,” the company said. NuStar is working with customers to coordinate priority movements “as the market rights itself and returns to normal.”

St James is a key hub for many Gulf Coast crude producers and refiners, located about halfway between New Orleans and Clovelly. St James includes about 40m bl of storage and is the blending and logistics hub for six refineries along the Mississippi river. It is also the delivery point of the Louisiana Light Sweet contract (LLS). Eagle Ford and Permian crude are shipped to St James by barge and pipeline and blended with other crudes to meet LLS specifications.

The St James terminal was shut prior to Hurricane Ida which hit the Louisiana coast on August 29 causing widespread power outages and damage. Power was restored to half of the NuStar terminal, which allowed the company to start recommissioning assets. NuStar also said it had continued critical crude movement operations on generation after Ida. NuStar’s St James terminal has 9.7m bl of storage capacity and serves pipelines, barges, ships and railcars.
