The Goose: Born to be Wild

ith the official inauguration of Wild Goose into the popular Westcliff locale of Costa Mesa, second generation restauranteur, Mario Marovic, and partner, Andrew Gabriel, prove that a world where authentic, world-class libations and “elevated pub grub” coalesce with regard and modesty is not an aberration after all. Free from pretense, the humble disposition at the core of Wild Goose’s ethos anchors a sincere, authentic, indelible dining experience where gastronomes and localites alike can revel and rejoice.
Upon arriving, the actualization of the “friendly, neighborhood-tavern vibe” I had only heard co-founder Gabriel describe before hand was indeed serene and comforting, even though the tavern teemed with enthusiastic first-timers. The tavern itself, adorned with antiquated furnishings and lodge-like décor, exuded an effortless charm. From taxidermy including a Canadian goose, ram and beaver, to repurposed lighting fixtures from old chicken feeders, the Wild Goose uses natural elements and rustic décor to envelop patrons with a warm ambiance. “It was a collaboration of us travelling and picking out little things that we saw and liked . . . the theme kind of took off; it wasn’t set in stone,” said Andrew of the lodge motif. Coincidentally, their serendipitous process of design reconciled their admiration for rustic Americana and desire for a cozy, intimate and humble saloon. I sat at the epicenter of the tavern: a curved bar topped with classic hammered copper, surrounded by framed hunting prints and retro beer signs on the wall. Though locally sourced sausages like the Chicken Mole sausage topped with roasted beet relish, garlic aioli, siracha and a fried quail egg invigorated my taste buds, I could not resist the image of the Cilantro Caprese burger freshly engraved in my head. Topped with fried mozzarella, cilantro chimi churri, oven dried tomatoes and garlic aioli, this artisanal burger captures the essence of Wild Goose Tavern’s high-quality, appetiteprovoking ingredients ubiquitous in every menu offering. To wash it down: a draught of Matilda—slighty fruity aroma with a spicy yeast flavor— crafted by Goose Island Beer Co. In addition to crafted draught beers like this one, the Goose is home to premium wines, classically-crafted cocktails with fresh ingredients, and the largest stock of single barrel whiskey this side of the Mississippi (at least it seems). From world-class grub to first-class ambiance, the Wild Goose’s repertoire will certainly leave an impression on future patrons. ew things can defrost a cold winter night better than a hot drink, especially when it’s got a little something extra to warm you up! Whether you’re on the mountain taking a break from the slopes or simply lounging at home by the fireplace, the obvious choice to top off the holiday season is the notorious Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum. Eric Parker, a Sin City resident, mastered this profession so well that he placed 4th among 48 competitors in China’s cutthroat Flair Bartending competition.

NGM: Tell us about competing in China’s Flair Bartending competition? EP: It was rather surreal. For the most part it was extremely professional and they took very good care of us. First class meals, after parties, sightseeing. All the fun aside, we were there to compete and every nation brought its best. We were all there to win. Come competition time, things were a bit chaotic. The crowd was packed, the DJ started the music, and my body started to go with the flow of my routine. NGM: Being a world champion bartender must come with some perks. Care to dish? EP: The biggest perk I could say is all the traveling! This year was China, last year was London. I’ve been all the way up to Canada and as far down as the Cayman Islands. I wouldn’t have dreamt in a million years flair would have taken me to so many places! NGM: Tell us about a typical shift at Golden Gate. EP: Ah Golden Gate! I work closely with Santiago Gomez and we always find a way to have fun! The people on Fremont Street seem to be a little more easygoing, if I had to stereotype, and we often play and feed off the crowd. It’s the more stern/stiff ones who we usually have the most fun
cally in the U.S. Do you believe they’ve finally caught up to the rest of Europe?
JL: I’m old enough to remember when EDM was huge stateside the last time around, when Digweed, Sasha, Tenaglia and Cox would play Twilo in New York. When Limelight was one of the most incredible venues on earth, and let’s not forget the Tunnel. The U.S. has been waiting 20 years for this to come 360 degrees and I’d hazard a guess it’s here to stay for at least another 5+ years.
NiteGuide Magazine: What area of representation thrills you the most? Artists, labels, or all of the events? Jonathan Llewellyn: It’s always thrilling when we deliver above and beyond our remit, which is what goes on at Get In consistently. We’re not traditional publicists, that wasn’t what I set the company up to do. Each person that works for me is trained across everything – events, artists, label, creative and of course the global market.
NGM: Being in PR has to come with perks. Can you share a few?
JL: Ha… I guess a free drink or ten never goes a miss, and guest list to events is rarely an issue.
NGM: The EDM industry has evolved drasti-

NGM: Are there any new artists you’re working with that our readers should know about?
JL: Sure, there’s always new talent to talk about. Danny Avila is making some serious noise at the moment, we also take care of Cazzette who’ve just released their debut album exclusively on Spotify, which is a world-first partnership.
NGM: Rumor has it you’re a perfectionist. This has to make your clients ecstatic, but do you ever drive your co-workers a bit crazy? JL: Without sounding cocky, I’d like to think we’re all perfectionists here. My entire team other than Kat Baker graduated through our internship program, it gives me the opportunity to see whether someone has the capability to de-

People come here to party and be entertained. A lot of this starts and ends at a bar. Some good knowledge of your craft and common courtesy goes a long way. NGM: What’s the most outlandish drink request you’ve ever taken? EP: I’m not sure about an outlandish cocktail, but some of the names people come up for drinks from different parts of the nation drives me nuts! I had a women ask for a blue motorcycle, that was in fact was an Adios Mo Fo. NGM: What advice would you give to aspiring flair bartenders? EP: Practice, practice, practice. Surround yourself by going to flair bars, competitions, etc. There’s a vast amount of training tools now, starting with barflair.org. Youtube is also a huge help. NGM: What’s a bit of advice you give to someone wanting to break into the PR industry?
JL: Don’t send a CV if you’re a wannabe producer or DJ. We get inundated with this kind of applicant and they’re just not suited to PR. Have an absolute understanding of current trends in music, be passionate about the clients you’re likely to end up working with, and be confident. Being a publicist in this industry is not for wilting wallflowers, you need a voice and an opinion.

He’s one of OC’s newest DJs and charges forward in the scene, creating a buzz while making a name for himself. NiteGuide Magazine: What attracted to you to the SoCal music scene? Eric Murray: I was fresh out of college when I first moved to Huntington Beach and was eager to continue my social life. I really enjoy the energy and how unique the music is. There are so many young producers and DJs down here coming up with new ideas and creating new sounds, I feel like I hear something new every time I go out. NGM: Tell us about your sound, and your approach to orchestrating it? EM: I make sure that my sets are always evolving and changing. I’ll play new remixes, mash up acapellas from different genres with popular songs, and incorpo-

NiteGuide Magazine: How did you break into promotional work? Katie Boatman: Promotional work kind of fell into my lap actually. Every Tuesday night in downtown Huntington Beach they have a street fair/farmers market, and Pacifico signed up to have a booth in downtown Huntington Beach for the summer for promotions and give-aways. I ended up meeting the Rep for Pacifico, and was offered a job not only for Tuesday nights to help with promotions, but to be in the World Series Stand-up Paddleboard Competition. With this job offer came many more promotions, and I’ve been with the same company ever since.

NGM: Tell us about the company that you work for? KB: I work for Entourage Promotions. It’s a great company to work for, they’re always on top of things and very organized. I sometimes hear crazy things from other girls about different companies, but I honestly have no complaints about Entourage. I have met so many good friends and great people, traveled all over the U.S, and have worked so many fun events. I’m so thankful to be a part of the Entourage Team!

NGM: Do you enjoy the constant interaction with people?
KB: Of course! This job is all about interacting with people. It’s about chatting with people you don’t know and introducing them to your product. The interactions you have with people make your job what it is. Everyone loves give-aways, especially if it’s from a brand that you love.
NGM: What’s a typical gig like? KB: Every gig is so different. There are golf tournaments and sporting events, concerts, private parties, liquor store promotions, bar promotions, and even promotions in restau-

erlin is the pristine capital of Germany and is characterized by iconic neoclassical architecture, historical landmarks, and the lush green forests, parks, and gardens that make up a third of its landscape. This exquisite city is among Europe’s top travel destinations for a number of reasons, but it offers so much more than what prints in most travel brochures. As much as there is to see by day, Berlin thrives in its nocturnal sights and sounds. Often thought to be the techno capital of the world, Berlin’s nightlife is enriched by a fascinating history in which electro music played a significant role in the era of German reunification after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Approach Berlin’s nightlife with a sense of purpose and determination. There is a lot to conquer throughout the several nightlife districts of Berlin, and if you want to emerge from it as triumphant as the victorious chariot that sits atop Brandenburg gate, it’s best to know where to start. The nightlife scene in Berlin is so vast, with many pockets catering to different lifestyles, that you could visit a new club every night for a year and still have more to see. From the young electric feel of the Friedrichshain district to the multicultural vibe of the Kreuzburg neighborhood, and from dingy basement dives pumping electronic music to large-scale outdoor events, Berlin truly has something for everyone. It is Europe’s poster child for diversity, progress, and freedom. Here are a handful of some of Berlin’s hot spots to help scratch the surface of nightlife there.

Prater Garten The oldest beer garden in Berlin, Prater Garten has crafted its brews since 1837 and has survived both World Wars and the Soviet rule of East Berlin. Among its unique beers are Prater Pils and Prater Schwarzbier (black beer), and those are just a couple of the concoctions that draw enough of a crowd to pack the thousand seats in the house daily. Prater Garten offers a relaxing setting to drink under the sun and experience the beautiful outdoors. When the weather gets rough, people head inside to the beer hall and restaurant, where they offer an extensive menu. Open from noon until past midnight in the summer months, Prater is the perfect place to spend the daytime hours in Berlin.
Maria am Ostbahnhof Maria am Ostbahnhof (known simply as “Maria”) is the premiere place to see live electro music acts in Berlin. Consisting of two separate halls in an old industrial building, Maria is the promise land for progressive electronic music fans and can accommodate up to 1,500 people. If the scale of the venue gets to be too much for you, you can head to Josef, the smaller club lounge within Maria for a more intimate atmosphere. With a relaxed door policy and reasonably priced drinks that are below the average drink prices for Berlin, Maria is a great place for a night of good music and dancing.
Berghain/Panorama Bar Berlin’s techno temple, the world-infamous Berghain, made a name for itself in a large industrial power station on the Kreuzberg-Friedrichshain border. Its reputation draws an international crowd from far and wide, but it retains enough ingenuity to appeal to locals as well. It is one of Berlin’s premier venues for techno music with high ceilings, cement floors, and a labyrinth layout in which you may easily lose yourself. Upstairs, Panorama Bar pays service to those seeking a more low-key atmosphere with house and disco DJs setting the mood. Both settings are worth spending some time in if you can get past Berghain’s door policy. A few pointers: Don’t say a word while you’re in line, don’t show up intoxicated, and don’t dress too fancy. What’s inside of this warehouse venue is worth the hassle of trying to get in, but some say they’ve been refused as many times as they’ve been admitted.
Weekend Centrally located in the posh neighborhood of Mitte, Weekend nightclub offers spectacular panoramic views of Berlin. Its layout makes the most of its surrounding views with the bar, dance floor, and seating placed in the middle, leaving the outskirt areas clear. The interior is laced in modern, sleek décor and DJs spin the best in house, pop, and electro music.
Watergate A split-level, two-room club in Kreuzberg, the upstairs area of Watergate is dark but is livened up by a flashy light show with an impressive LED light panel that spans almost the entire area of the club. The lower level of Watergate showcases the River Spree it overlooks through a floor-to-ceiling glass wall that lets the daylight in as the club winds down. Not your average basement techno club, Watergate caters to listeners with sophisticated ears and has garnered so much credibility that it started its own music label in 2008, Watergate Records. ropkick Murphys produce a brand of music that thrives through their fans. The East Coast rockers develop a relationship with listeners during live shows that can incite a music-infused riot
one minute, and lead a group sing along the next. Greeting a rowdy room full of Irish Punk music lovers, Dropkick Murphys stormed the Observatory on November 10th. The Boston ensemble kicked the night off with “The Boys Are Back” immediately setting the tone for the romping ahead. Lead vocalist Al Barr stalked side to side at the front of the stage, reaching out to fans and initiating a give-and-take connection with the crowd. Amidst the mosh pits and fist pumping came their original Christmas tune “The Season’s Upon Us” which they performed under a blanket of soft, red and green lights. Other standouts included “Rose Tattoo” off the group’s new album Signed and Sealed In Blood (due out next month) lead by bassist Ken Casey, and “I’m Shipping Up To Boston,” the group’s anthem dedicated to the hard workers of their hometown. What truly resonates about this group of musicians is their devotion to the down-to-earth fan base they pull in. The band has stated that their “no-nonsense” style of music draws in a hard working crowd for a night of much needed release. A Dropkick Murphys show is more than just a concert to their loyal followers; it creates a feeling of coming home.

ith the music festival scene making such a killing in The United States, its no wonder promoters abroad want to expand their horizons. Barcelona-based Sónar has
teamed up with Goldenvoice to bring its brand stateside with this year’s Sónar On Tour. The final leg of the eight-city tour came to The Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall on November 10th; drawing an eclectic group to the famed venue. Sónar presented a compacted line-up with headliners Die Antwoord and included support from Azari & III, Seth Troxler, Paul Kalkbrenner, and Nic Fanciulli. Early arrivals filtered in to Fanciulli, warming them up with an amazing set, followed by an inspired Kalkbrenner who entertained the growing crowd. Lights were turned up for a slightly lengthy break to set up for Die Antwoord, giving fans the opportunity to grab a drink and rile up for the eccentric South African group who were the centerpiece of the evening. Crowds waved their arms and let loose with jaw-dropping dance moves during Die Antwoord’s intriguing shriekinfused rap. The visuals and lighting for the set matched the group’s original and often risqué sound, exciting the crowd with something they were sure not to find anywhere else. Azarii & III and Seth Troxler closed down the out-of-the-box festival that served up a huge dose of originality.

aint Motel is an L.A. based, innovative and imaginative ensemble that toured with Imagine Dragons, Nico Vega, Band of Skulls, and Races. The group’s live shows are extremely inventive and invoke a theatrical delirium for entertainment and music enthusiasts to get lost in. A.J. Jackson (lead vocals/guitar), Aaron Sharp (lead guitar), Dak (bass), and Greg Erwin (drums) met in 2007 while in film school with a plan to create a refreshing high-energy indie pop sound to stir up the norm. Since the release of ForPlay, a six song EP created in 2009, they have offered up a handful of singles with cinematic videos that gently teased their fans in anticipation of a full body of work. The full-length LP was released in July of this year, revealing the up beat, dance-invoking album Voyeur. The band started building the album with the help of a label, however, that’s not how they concluded. “It was a long complicated process, we started the album with a major label and when we finished it we were recording it ourselves,” Jackson explains. “It was a combination of the two worlds.” Jackson reflected on the transformation of becoming independent halfway through the construction of the album, affirming, “Everything is all an experience of life, and whatever the result was fine with us… I think we are in a much better situation right now.” The title of the album came about through the story-like quality of the production. “The songs are so different, it felt like you are a bystander watching all these stories unfold, and they are all very different,” says Jackson. Voyeur definitely does just that. From songs like “Daydream/Wet Dream/ Nightmare” which has a rock opera feel, to “1997” backboned by an up beat piano with dark meaning, all the way to the big band song “Benny Goodman,” this album has a variety of stories that are tied together in a seamless fashion. Saint Motel plans on releasing a video for the song “Benny Goodman,” and will continue touring with cinema-inspired performances, all the while working on new songs for their next album. orman Doray makes “big room music” and turns out beats in the world’s most elite clubs, including Pacha New York and XS Las Vegas in the U.S. alone. NiteGuide caught up with the French DJ/producer in between European show dates to discuss his collaborations and the evolution of dance music culture.

NiteGuide Magazine: Do you recall the first time you were introduced to EDM? Norman Doray: Yeah, it was around ten years ago, a bit more. [I had] discovered French Touch music, with Daft Punk, Cassius and others. It was an instant shock, I knew I wanted to do that in my life. So I started playing as a DJ in small bars and clubs, and then I went to production. Now I’m traveling the world playing music, what a dream. NGM: You did some co-producing with Avicii, correct? How was working with him? ND: Yeah I did a track called “Tweet It” with him and Sebastien Drums. It was released on Steve Angello’s label, Size Records. It was really cool working with him, [because] more than liking his music, we are good friends. So there was no stress, no pressure, just doing what we like. We have the same tastes and same roots. It was a great experience for sure! NGM: And you’re currently working with Nervo? ND: Actually, I’ve just released a single with them. I met the Nervo girls two years ago, and we decided to work together on a single. We locked down in-studio in London for two days and we produced “Something To Believe In,” which is a groovy progressive house hymn. The crowd has been loving it and I really want to thank the people for the support; we just hit main Top 10 Beatport with it. It was a real pleasure to work with them, we had so much fun. I guess fun plus work is the perfect combo! NGM: Electronic dance music continues to grow and evolve. What’s the greatest change you’ve seen in EDM culture in the last few years? ND: USA… I’ve seen a whole territory becoming so big, [with] clubs and festivals everywhere. I’ve seen a new generation getting into electronic music, making this genre as big as hip hop or rock-n-roll. That’s insane.

The Mayan Theatre Los Angeles, CA The Mayan Theatre is a Los Angeles Metropolitan area landmark and former movie palace. When The Mayan is not an operating nightclub, the 5,000 square foot stage accommodates major film and music video productions, fashion shows, and live concerts. Rock musicians Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart of The Kills moved the crowd with their live performance at The Mayan Theatre earlier in August, and Hard Haunted Mansion took over on November 3rd, bringing in EDM heavy hitters Justice, Knife Party, Major Lazer and more.

Tucked away in downtown Santa Ana in Orange County, CA, the Yost Theater enters a class of its own; the uses for this historical building are endless. This venue serves as a nightclub, live music concert, movie theater with full bar and food service, and even holds MMA sporting events. Last October energy was through the roof as DJs Porter Robinson and Zedd impressed fans with their mesmerizing laser light show setup and their heavy beats.
4th & B San Diego, CA Located in the historic heart of San Diego’s Gaslamp District, 4th & B is a concert hall that serves as a haven for music enthusiasts and welcomes many different genres of sound. World-renowned artists like The Black Eyed Peas, Jack Johnson, Ringo Starr, and Korn have performed here, but as of late the venue has been embracing artists like Kristina Sky, araabMUZIK and Zeds Dead.
Lavo Nightclub at the Palazzo Las Vegas, NV Lavo Nightclub boasts sexy and luxurious Turkish-Moroccan bathhouse décor that can accommodate up to 550 guests for cocktail receptions. For much larger events, the entire venue can be reserved to house 1,700 guests. This elegantly crafted nightclub is the perfect venue for extravagant wedding receptions, celebrity CD release parties, and exclusive networking events. By Justin Olsen | Photos by Brian Brown Friday, November 9th at The Observatory in Santa Ana marked an epic night for dub-steppers and hip-hop lovers all across Orange County. Energy and anticipation filled the brisk nights air as bassheads surrounded the venue like a swarm of bees, awaiting their chance to get a taste of the sweet, honey-like sounds of bass god, Rusko. As the entertainingly dressed crowd trickled in, they were met by the signature LA-based sounds, which every SMOG event has come to be known for. DJs Steady and Tealong pumped out popular dubstep and electronic jams as the shivering attendees found their groups dancing quarters and made some much needed trips to the bar. Clicks & Whistles entered the stage with a heavily trap influenced performance before handing the tables off to Rusko’s special guest producer, ƱZ. Being crowned as one of the EDM trap-style founders, ƱZ shot up the block with deep sub-bass sounds, high-ringing melodies and spurts of gun sounds, turning everyone into a gangster for the next hour. Soon after midnight, Rusko stole the show with his presence and utterly unique showmanship. Acting as a tour guide to his music and taking the listeners on a journey of high-energy sound, Rusko proved to Orange County why he’s one of the top dogs. Hurricanes Bar & Grill [Huntington Beach] By Fred Dyoll | Photos by MyClubScene.com | Christina Montaldo In the wake of the natural disaster on the East Coast, MyClubScene.com teamed up with Hurricanes Bar and Grill in Huntington Beach to rally partygoers and raise money for those affected by Hurricane Sandy on November 1st. The weekly Thursday night event raged on for a cause, where the glowthemed party bustled with a variety of drink specials and UV vodka cocktails. MyClubScene’s “Glow Girls” handed out light up necklaces while taking donations and mingling with the crowd. DJ Eric Murray was on hand to supply some of the best beats on the West Coast, keeping the energy high and the giving-spirit flowing. People packed onto the light up dance floor while attendees outside enjoyed the crisp night air, reached by the sound of Murray’s set. People across the nation came together after the tragedy, raising money in restaurants, through telethons, and donating clothing, food and other necessities to help ease the aftermath of the storm. Hurricanes Bar and Grill matched the funds raised by MyClubScene and despite the rainy night, were delighted at the turnout and spirit of the event. The Yost Theater in Santa Ana possesses the remarkable ability to bring EDM lovers together on a regular basis, in a somewhat familial fashion. The venue has serious style and generally equates to a great time. On November 28th, the Yost erupted to the sounds of One More Time: A Daft Punk Tribute. Daft Punk is arguably one of the greatest EDM acts of all time, but unfortunately for their many fans, rarely tours. After three studio albums, two live records, and a soundtrack, their irresistible sound is one of the most craved live sets in the world. Thankfully, One More Time left partygoers “Daft Punk’d” and ready for more. The legitimate coverduo played Daft Punk’s best tracks and satiated a hunger for some Daft beats in the flesh. The great thing about watching a cover band is that pretention melts away. Attendees were there for the music, and enjoyed the opportunity to dance to Daft Punk with space and a good sound system on their side. The Yost offered up a fun and relaxed way to bridge the week that Wednesday night, where people genuinely let loose and had a good time.
Pete Tong and Eats Everything Exchange LA [Los Angeles]
By Fred Dyoll | Photos by Jonathan Juan Insomniac sponsors a weekly event at one of Los Angeles’ historical venues that now thrives with nightlife, Exchange LA. “Inception Saturdays” pushed ahead with Pete Tong, Eats Everything, and Audrey Napolean on November 24th, packing the club and causing a ruckus. The vibrant venue housed partygoers who were amped up for the night ahead, peaking interest for the up and coming talent and brought in long-time fans of the legendary Tong. Napolean kicked the night off with her electro-house sound, grooving along with the crowd and setting the tone. Bridging the performances was Tong, whose timeless taste in music delivered once again. He played amidst a fog and laser light show that left dancers on the floor before him billowing in and out of dreamlike green clouds. His performance lasted until around two as he left the stage with a wave to his fans. Keeping the energy level high, Eats Everything –aka Bristolian Daniel Pearce– brought his tantalizing blend of underground house that threaded elements of house, bass, jungle and techno into a good old fashioned electro throw down. Eats took the massive EDM crowd into his underground layer for some serious after-hours excitement. Overall the evening left partygoers feeling satisfied and a bit tired in the knees, thanks to the invigorating EDM put forth by the performers.

Feenixpawl Gives You Wings

rinks were flowing and faces were smiling as the historic Yost Theater in Santa Ana slowly filled itself with a crowd that was insistent on having a good time. Relentless anticipation and excitement spanned the room like a raging wildfire as the audience awaited the arrival of two newly born EDM sensations. Rising from the embers of their Swedish House Mafia ancestors, Feenixpawl has been engraving their name in music history throughout the recent years. NiteGuide had a chance to sit down with both Aden Forte and Josh Soon backstage before the show and get the low down on DJing in the states for the first time and the future of Feenixpawl. “I think as DJs there’s been a few places we have dreamed of playing and Marquee is one of them and Passion is another- -we’ve already knocked off two this tour,” says Soon. “You can get away with a little bit more here. We’ve played a lot of music that is new. You get a lot more requests in Australia, in America they let you do your job… Gangnam Style is not going to happen.” Go-go dancers spun from the ceiling in an array of flowing colors as Mossberg Pump started the night off with a mix of hard, in-your-face style techno that got everybody moving from front-to-back. Midnight rolled around, the lights dimmed and wings spread wide across the LED boards. Feenixpawl (Forte and Soon) stepped up to the decks in preparation for the musical journey they were about to embark on. Soaring through a perfectly chosen collection of house anthems, listeners literally took flight with their melodic chord progressions and big room sounds. As they kept to their sides of the deck, the Australian duo displayed knowledge of how Americans like to party, keeping the energy knob turned to maximum at all times. The moment their #1 hit, “In My Mind” began playing, the air vibrated with the voices of everyone in attendance belting out the lyrics in “drunken” unison. Entering the final leg of the tour doesn’t mean the work is over for these young producers, “When we get back we are playing this festival called Stereosonic with Tiesto, Avicii, Calvin Harris and a lot of other big artists. Steve Aoki’s Birthday Bash

n November 21st, Steve Aoki celebrated his birthday a bit early by taking over the historic Shrine Expo Hall with the help of Insomniac Events and Nitto Tires. Alongside Dan Sena, Autoerotique, Dirtyphonics, and
Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Aoki showed the Los Angeles crowd how to count your age Dim Mak style. The highly anticipated event garnered a great deal of hype throughout the summer months and culminated in a birthday extravaganza that neither the crowd nor Aoki will soon forget. The venue overflowed, the music blared, the lighting flickered with an assortment of lasers, and most importantly, faces were caked. The young and vibrant crowd came ready to rage when Sena hit the decks to start off the night. Autoerotique and Dirtyphonics then laid down impressive sets that escalated in intensity and brought the crowd to a boil. By the time Dimitri & Mike took the stage the two level venue was packed with jumping bodies swaying to the body-rattling bass and ecstatic lights. After Dimitri & Mike gave Aoki a rowdy introduction, the main event was ready to commence. In addition to the headbanging tunes blasting through the speakers, Aoki brought a handful of crowd pleasing tricks as usual. In true Aoki fashion, there were LED robots followed by the iconic, crowd-surfing raft floating through a sea of hands with Aoki at the helm. Once back on stage, Aoki let his arsenal of batter and frosting fly with a satisfied smile on his face. Once the last track was played Aoki bid the fans farewell, leaving the hungry crowd wanting more. The lights soon came on in the Expo Hall, illuminating the confetti drenched dance floor and smiling cake ridden faces. L
ast month was the second coming of Insomniac’s Electric Daisy Carnival in Orlando, FL, and NiteGuide was there to witness it in all of its splendor. Once again, Insomniac distanced itself from the bad rap that formerly plagued the scene and threw another event that exuded pure class and proved that Insomniac can throw a party like no one else in the world. This was the second year that EDC Orlando was held at Tinker Field, a large ground outside of the Orlando Citrus Bowl big enough to comfortably host tens of thousands of party people, three epic stages, and carnival rides throughout the park. From the crowd, to the production, to the amazing lineup, it was clear that Insomniac had put together every aspect of this event with great precision. The production of this event easily tops the production at any other similar event, and creates an atmosphere that attracts both established electro icons and cutting edge newcomers alike. The jam packed lineup included Tiësto, Cosmic Gate, Afrojack, Richie Hawtin and more, saturating the stages with world class music. There’s so much to appreciate at events such as this, If crowds of beautiful people encouraged to dress in costume and party with one another is not your cup of tea, then check out the hundreds of performers, theatrics, dancers, decorations and rides. A lineup with some of the biggest and best names in EDM, pyrotechnics, free water, food, vendors, and an awesome staff helped the event reach its full potential. After all is said and done I’ve got two recommendations for Insomniac; do it again next year and be sure to carve out more space because this year’s success is certain to go viral! wedish House Mafia’s newly released and final album Until Now can pack an arena, incite an impromptu dance party, aid in a pulse-pounding workout, or provide a much needed mental portal into sweet EDM release.
The album offers a new song, several unreleased tracks, and multiple beloved anthems. Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso lovingly refer to it the as the soundtrack to their “One Last Tour.” It’s a seamless record to lionize the eminent EDM they’ve created together. The seventeenth track, “Don’t You Worry Child” is #1 in the UK and has charted on the US top 40. Until Now has a perfect launch with the world famous track, “Greyhound,” a clean gradual accumulation for the rest of the compilation to build on. Each track slides into one another with transitions to make it feel like they are tied together as one. Track 6, Swedish House Mafia vs. Knife Party – “Antidote” is the song to keep partygoers on their toes with a mix of dub step and electro house. Throughout, they mix and collaborate the sounds of Coldplay, Usher, Florence and the Machine, Temper Trap, and many of their contemporaries. It’s a versatile compilation, no matter the setting. Wrapping the album up, “Save the World” is a candid farewell to the album and Swedish House Mafia. Their “One Last Tour” is covering the world and selling out numerous arenas in minutes. If you can’t make their show in L.A. you can still enjoy a show all to your own. Throw on Until Now for your next party, workout, or drive and your body can’t help but move.
