t is my pleasure to welcome you, on behalf of the Alliance of Automotive Service Providers of New Jersey (AASP/NJ), to the 38th annual NORTHEAST 2015 Automotive Services Show. It is truly humbling to look at this Goliath-sized event today and know that we started as a small tabletop show. From a couple of tables in a hotel ballroom displaying small tools like sandpaper and masking tape to the largest regional trade show of its kind in the country (where major industry players come to showcase their newest technology), our growth has been a one-of-akind experience. This year’s show will undoubtedly be the best we have ever had. Serving everyone from shop owners to techs (and from multi-bay shops to small mom-and-pop locations), this is the place to find out about everything that is going on in your industry. The show will once again welcome favorites like the annual East Coast Resolution Forum and Leadership Meeting, the AASP National Board meeting, special I-CAR classes and a full slate of seminars and demos. Additionally, we will be welcoming new groups to the show this year, including the National Automotive Service Task Force (NASTF) for their Spring Board and General Meetings. Of course, some of this year’s biggest can’t-miss events are the Industry Showdown between Larry Montanez and Kristen Felder, Ryan Friedlinghaus’ celebrity guest appearance and Sunday’s Family Day activities. It is necessary to note that in addition to a full slate of educational opportunities, NORTHEAST 2015 will also host a packed show floor. The show is bustling with exhibitors offering special deals on all of the latest tools and equipment to help bring your shop to the next level. Thank you to all of our vendors, the presenters and everyone else who helped make this event possible. Enjoy NORTHEAST 2015!

Friday, March 20 5pm TRADE SHOW OPENS 5:30pm-6:30pm How Have We Gotten Where the Industry is Today? Seminar Room D Presented by Tony Passwater, President of AEII This hour-long session looks at the strategies, practices and tactics that the insurance industry has methodically implemented to direct the collision industry to where it is today. Have you ever wondered how it all happened? Why are our profits dwindling to the levels they are now, as we are running every minute of every day, and the pressure to do it faster and cheaper is ever-increasing? Why have mandated parts procurement systems been forced into the industry? What is next? The strategies, practices and tactics used are obvious and clear when you take the time to see how they have been orchestrated. Knowing what these tactics are can go a long way in preventing more to come. It is time to be engaged; the MOVEMENT has begun. 6pm-6:45pm Not Just Dings and Dents! AASP/NJ Booth #423 (Demo Area) Presented by Charles Aoun, Miracle System Charles Aoun will perform live panel repair demonstrations on steel and aluminum. 6:30pm-8:30pm Industry Showdown: Montanez and Felder Tackle the Issues Seminar Rooms A and B Sit back and listen while two industry mainstays go head to head on the industry’s biggest hot-button topics. THE AMATO AGENCY Thanks to longtime AASP/NJ benefit providers the Amato Agency, a number of Garden State body shops now have a lot more money in their bank accounts. An independent insurance agency located in Neptune, the Amato Agency specializes in securing affordable insurance for the independent business owner. The company’s special “safety group” program provides annual dividend checks to participating shops if the group’s total loss ratio is better than anticipated by the insurance companies at the time of premium development. The less claims the group files, the more money the group will make. And when the end of the year rolls around, that money goes right back into the pockets of the body shops. “Our plan is only as good as our members,” explains Amato Agency President Joe Amato Sr. “As our pool of premiums increases and our losses continue to stay low, we have a much bigger pot from which to pool our dividends.” Since joining AASP/NJ in 2001, the Amato Agency has provided association members with a series of outstanding membership programs, including its popular Disability Income Insurance Program. “Our retention has been better than 95 percent,” Amato says. “When people buy a policy from us, they stay with us.” In addition to offering a popular workers’ compensation program that provides AASP/NJ members with 20percent upfront discounts, the Amato Agency also works hard to help shops navigate through the oftenconfusing world of health care. As Amato says, “We represent all the major health insurance carriers in the state of New Jersey. We can sit with our clients and evaluate a good, solid health insurance program that can keep the cost down and still provide quality benefits for the insured.” The Amato Agency recently kicked off a new program that provides discounts for personal automotive and homeowners insurance for employees of AASP/NJ members. Employees can request a rate quote on auto insurance, as well as gain information on the Amato Agency’s many services, by contacting the agency at (800) 763-6574 or by going to www.amatoagency.com. Visit the Amato Agency at NORTHEAST 2015 Booth #519.

AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO. AMERICAN HONDA LAUNCHES CERTIFIED PROGRAM American Honda Motor Co., Inc. is pleased to announce the launch of the ProFirst Certified body shop program. The program is open to both independent and

32

dealer-owned collision shops. To qualify, shops must be either an I-CAR Gold Class shop or a VeriFacts VQ or Medallion shop. In addition, shops must complete Honda/Acura-specific training hosted by I-CAR, meet tool and equipment requirements, meet facility requirements and have a CSI system in place. Program benefits include a plaque for display at each certified body shop plus free online access to all Honda and Acura service and repair information and parts catalogs. The shop’s name and contact information will be placed on the American Honda body shop locator website. Qualified shops will also receive exterior signage, collateral promotional materials and free access to a collision tech-line for help via telephone. Axalta Coating Systems will provide inspection services to audit shops initially and then on an annual basis to confirm consistent compliance with program requirements. Performance Gateway of Madison, WI will provide technical and computer support. “Honda and Acura vehicles earn more IIHS Top Safety Pick+ awards than those of any other manufacturer,” said Steve Osborne, assistant vice president of the Parts, Service & Technical Division. “It is only logical that we support safe and proper collision repair of our customers’ vehicles and that we identify repair shops that are certified to possess the necessary skills, training and equipment to perform those repairs.” “We are excited to be back here again at the NORTHEAST Automotive Services Show for our second year. It’s the perfect venue to launch our most prestigious collision program yet!” said Gary Ledoux, assistant national manager for Collision Parts Marketing. “Please see us at Booth #441.” For more information, or to apply for the program, contact American Honda at profirst@ahm.honda.com.

ARANJ Since 1966, the Automotive Recyclers Association of NJ (ARANJ) has represented an industry dedicated to the efficient removal and reuse of automotive parts and the safe disposal of inoperable motor vehicles. Our members are environmentally conscious automotive recyclers in NJ who are dedicated to fighting for industry and consumer rights, and are part of ARA, the only trade association serving the automotive recycling industry internationally in 12 countries. ARANJ is doing its part to encourage vehicle-recycling efforts with major automobile manufacturers, using the expertise of professional automotive recyclers. We’re ready to aid you in your quest for quality used auto parts by providing links and search engines through our website (www.aranj.org) to help you find a

recycler located conveniently close to you. If you ever have a question about the automotive recycling industry, if you are a recycler interested in joining our association or if you would simply like more information about the ARANJ, our officers and members of the Board would be more than happy to assist you. Contact information for all executive officers can be found on the official website of the ARANJ, www.aranj.org. We commend your choice to utilize recycled auto parts. It’s the ecologically sound decision that keeps some of your hard-earned money where it belongs: In your pocket! When it comes to doing the right thing for yourself and the environment, be sure to do your part with our parts! Please visit us at www.aranj.org.

AUTO BODY DISTRIBUTING CO. From sandpaper and body filler to masking tape and paint, Auto Body Distributing Co. provides NJ-based body shops with the basics at a lower price than most competitors. Anything you need to run your shop on a daily basis can be found through Auto Body Distributing Co. Shop owners also get the best price on hard parts, since ABD provides members with a list of parts suppliers that have agreed to discount their product. We don’t care if you are a one-man shop or a 30-man shop; you’ll get the same great price. ABD’s 45-year history began in 1970, when nine body shop owners joined forces to drum up membership in their local association. Their determination, perseverance and cutting-edge ideas of encouraging participation by becoming cooperative eventually led to an overwhelming response. Today, the ABD has become a force in the industry, and supplies stockholders with shop supplies at huge savings in addition to the best hard parts discounts. We thank you for your support! How is ABD able to provide a service like this to its members? Because ABD buys so many supplies, we get a large discount. But instead of keeping the profit and selling the supplies at list price, only minimal markups are applied. Our prices are still cheaper than other supply distributors that sell their products at list price. To learn more about ABD, please call (973) 3737100, or visit us online at www.autobody distributing.com. We look forward to seeing you at NORTHEAST 2015 Booth #400.

CAR-PART.COM Car-Part.com displays the used parts inventories of over 4,100 auto recyclers across the USA, Canada and Mexico, totaling over 130 million parts on the www.CarPart.com search engine. The website allows auto recyclers to make it easy for collision shops, mechanics, core buyers and retail customers to find the best part for their vehicles based on condition, location, availability, brand and price. Car-Part.com was created in the mid-1990s by an auto recycling family and the president of an Internet development and Web-hosting company. The auto recyclers were frustrated by the proprietary nature of their inventory management system; the systems on the market excluded body shops and repair facilities, and also excluded auto recyclers who did not share the same management system. Since 1998, Car-Part.com has developed over 20 software products to help auto recyclers manage their inventory as well as buy and sell their used parts, which enables them to run their businesses more efficiently and productively. Car-Part.com is unique in that while being a software development firm, the company is also a recycler and operates a salvage yard at its headquarters in Fort Wright, KY. As a result, the company uses the same software in their own recycling facility that it sells to

FRED BEAN’S PARTS Imagine being able to order parts for various manufacturers all in one sitting, with the help of a trained expert. Then imagine not having to go pick up these parts because they get delivered straight to you in a single

truck. Imagine the warehouse this truck came from is big enough to house over 200,000 parts at one time, and efficient enough to have your Saturday order delivered on Monday. Sound too good to be true? It’s not. It’s Fred Bean’s Parts in Doylestown, PA. The man who started it all, Fred Bean, began as a garage owner in 1975 and years later became a parts supplier for large dealerships. Bean eventually decided to break away from the dealerships altogether; in January of 2001, a downtown warehouse was transformed into 88,000 square feet of storage space with a stateof-the-art sales and service center. Fred Bean’s specializes in OE manufacturers Ford, GM, Chrysler, Isuzu, Hyundai, Saab, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Saturn, Daewoo, Kia, Porsche, Mercedes, Toyota, Volvo and Mazda. Their inventory is constantly moving thanks to 35 trucks leaving and entering the building for deliveries all day. FUTURE CURE Future Cure is a CT-based manufacturer that began the development of its product line in the late ’80s. Prior to that time, there were basically two choices in paint booths: High-end booths for high dollars, or lowend for low dollars. Future Cure set out to design - and has produced - a good quality, mid-priced booth that’s both affordable to own and offers shop owners and painters a comfortable environment in which to work. Future Cure is a “direct sales” company; when you call, you’ll speak directly with staff designers who can engineer a booth to any specific design requirements, directly to the factory for service, support and the best pricing available nationwide. No middleman, no distributor, no reseller. We understand the buying process for a paint booth can, at times, seem overwhelming. Allow us the opportunity to service your needs and allow us the opportunity to compete for your valued business. Future Cure will be showcasing at NORTHEAST 2015 booth #100, and Derek Naidoo will be presenting new and exciting information in a special Future Cure-facilitated seminar: “Lean Processing in the Paint Shop: Painting With Nitrogen,” happening Saturday, March 21

LKQ CORPORATION LKQ Corporation is the largest nationwide provider of aftermarket collision replacement products, recycled OEM products and reconditioned OEM collision replacement products such as wheels, bumper covers and lights used to repair light vehicles. LKQ operates over 300 facilities, offering customers a broad range of replacement systems, components and parts to repair automobiles and light- and heavy-duty trucks. Our recycling facilities in New York are networking with the Keystone facilities in Totowa and Lakewood, NJ as well as Brooklyn, the Bronx, Newburgh and Syosset, NY to enhance delivery services to customers in the New Jersey and New York markets. LKQ’s online delivery system provides its service representatives with the ability to view parts from the company-wide inventory. Lou Scarnati, general manager of the New England/New York Region, explains, “We can source parts as far south as Maryland, as far north as Maine and as far west as Ohio for delivery to our customers, usually the next day.” LKQ’s network across North America enables the company to serve collision and mechanical repair shops better than anyone else. With numerous crossdock facilities in nine trading regions, the company is able to fulfill orders – most with next-day deliveries – above industry average rates. By offering all forms of alternative parts – aftermarket, OE recycled, remanufactured and reconditioned – it is more likely to have what repair shops need. LKQ offers higher-demand aftermarket products, such as head and tail lamps, grilles, hoods, mirrors, bumper covers and fenders. Platinum Plus is Keystone’s own brand of collision repair products and is the industry’s only premium brand of collision parts. Value Line is a quality part that often comes from the same manufacturer at a more competitive price, since there is no expense for the third-party evaluation. LKQ also carries many CAPA parts. CAPA ensures that parts meet quality standards for fit, component materials and corrosion resistance. The CAPA seal is placed on those parts that meet these quality and fit standards. LKQ acquires salvage vehicles, primarily at auctions, and dismantles them, recycling the OEM parts for resale on late-model automobiles involved in collisions or in need of replacement mechanical parts, such as engines or transmissions. The most common recycled products include vehicle front or rear end assemblies, doors, trunk lids, engines and transmissions. Please visit LKQ at www.lkq corp.com, or at our corner Booth #237 at the NORTHEAST 2015 Automotive Services Show for more information.

POLYCRACKER Polycracker is located in Boonton, NJ. For more than 25 years, the company has been a provider of specialty

54

chemicals for the removal of wax, grease, silicones and Armor-All from surfaces to prepare them for fisheyefree coatings and painting. Polycracker was the first to introduce a water-based chemical in this industry and is still the #1 choice. Most fisheye problems are caused by poly-silicone, the ingredients in all of today’s most durable paint protection systems and waxes. Successful refinishing of treated vehicles requires removal of all traces of these chemicals – Polycracker was designed to do just that. Plus, Polycracker completely removes oil, grease, lubricants, fingerprints and dirt. Fisheye eliminators are the not the answer. Adding fisheye eliminator to all paint jobs – “just in case” – can cause major problems down the road, because fisheye eliminators contain some of the same ingredients as the waxes. Adding fisheye eliminators to paint can make the paint compatible with the wax, but using it can create adhesion problems, or wax residue accumulation. Clearcoats are even worse. Using eliminator in single stage top coats is a remedy that can be pulled off, but using the chemicals in primers or the basecoats of two- or three-stage finishes can be hazardous. Using eliminator may help you get the base on, but when you apply the clear, you could get thousands of fisheyes. When that happens, your only chance of saving the job is by adding large doses of eliminator to the clearcoat. This can mean countless small fisheyes that you will

later attempt to color sand and buff out. By doing so, you’re risking slippage (adhesion problems) down the road. The simple solution is to eliminate fisheye at its source. Use POLYCRACKER before sanding and before painting to ELIMINATE fisheye for good! Please contact us at polycracker@netscape.com and visit us at NORTHEAST 2015 Booth #737!

Founded in 1989 by Orazio Spanesi, Spanesi has become synonymous with constant growth and improvement. Raised with an innate vocation for cars and mechanics, Orazio Spanesi’s dream started when he opened a body shop in a small town in the province of Padova Italy in 1969 after beginning his career as a panel beater in 1958. Driven by his desire to learn

of excellence. Spanesi’s product lines include straightening benches, minibenches, touch electronic systems, vacuum systems, welding machines, infrared lamps, lifts, painting tools, spray booth equipment and manual, pneumatic, electric and hydraulic tools. Spanesi’s dedication to superior products starts with research and development to continually improve the quality and technology need for vehicle repair. Being on the customer’s side is not just a slogan for Spanesi, but a fact of daily life, demonstrated by an on-site body shop in operation alongside its production plant. Here, each new prototype is tested with modifications that improve efficiency, optimize times and simplify procedures. This is the site of the real “field testing” that guarantees the exceptional Spanesi performance and

Spanesi came to realize the inadequacy of the repair systems in use at the time, which were too slow and too complicated and founded his own company to fill the void in the repair industry. Thanks to a series of astute technical insights, in just a few years, Orazio Spanesi succeeded in developing a range of products that included the Spanesi universal jig and the totem lift that revolutionized the market and brought the brand success. Today, Spanesi is a leading international producer of automotive repair equipment and continues to manufacture the most effective solutions to enable body shop technicians to perform repairs to a high standard

Soft Strike Aluminum Conversion Kit, PN3500 allows the technician to protect their existing hammer and dollies by using Soft Strike Aluminum Covers to also work on aluminum body components. The Soft Strike Covers eliminate the need to invest in redundant, special aluminum application tools, and alllows the safe and uncomplicated conversion of

existing steel tools to work on aluminum; the removable covers prevent cross contamination and galvanic corrosion. With aluminum doors, the manufacturers are using self-piercing rivets and glue versus welding for the door skins, which is a new process for technicians. The SPR Extraction Tool (PN 21970) has a high-grade

hardened steel frame and a ½” 20 Grade 8 hex bolt with hardened tip to push out a SPR with a ¾” or 19mm socket, while the SPR Insertion Tool (PN 21960) has a high grade hardened steel frame and a ½” 20 Grade 8 hex bolt with magnetic end and center recess to hold the replacement SPR while inserting the SPR with a ¾” or 19mm socket. Technicians can accomplish this task without waiting in line for the very expensive hydraulic tools. Al Skin Zipper (PN21892), with its selflubricating reinforced nylon head, will crimp regular or adhesive bonded 1mm and 1.5mm skins. The Al Skin Zipper crimps the edge tightly for a professional rope hem finish with no damage to the skin in an easy twostep process after removing the SPRs. Also the Al Skin Zipper2 tool (PN21896) will complete the window flange opening of aluminum door skins. While Steck’s focus is on the auto body repair business (where they develop and sell body shop specialty repair tools), they also provide products to the towing industry. Their BigEasy Lockout tool kits (32900 and 32955) allow technicians to unlock cars without damaging the car door. Their most recent announcement, the 4th Wheel Loader (71480), allows tow truck drivers to safely load and secure a vehicle with broken ball joints, lost wheels or locked wheels on their roll back wreckers. This also allows mechanics and body technicians to steer the vehicle over unlevel surfaces (as well as gravel and dirt) into the shop and guide it to lifts or frame racks for repair.
