I

Welcome to

t is my honor to welcome you, on behalf of the Alliance of Automotive Service Providers of New Jersey (AASP/NJ), to the association’s flagship event, the 39th annual NORTHEAST 2016 Automotive Services Show. I am truly humbled to look at NORTHEAST, which started as a small tabletop show in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, and see the mammoth-sized event in front of me. Nearly four decades ago when we first started, we were barely filling out a small hotel ballroom with tools like sandpaper and masking tape. Now, this is the largest regional trade show of its kind in the nation, bringing in major players from across the country, and even around the world. Our growth has truly been unprecedented. This year, we’ve set new standards for NORTHEAST. Our show floor is the most packed it has ever been, and our educational slate is our most comprehensive to date. This will without a doubt be the best show we’ve ever had. Whether you’re a two-bay facility or a mega-shop, this is the place to find out everything you need to know in order to improve and continue to succeed in the automotive repair field. NORTHEAST will once again welcome favorites like the annual AASP/NJ and SCRS-hosted East Coast Resolution Forum and Leadership Meeting, special I-CAR classes and a full slate of seminars and demo presentations. Of course, some of this year’s biggest can’t-miss events are the “Body Shop Certification and You: An OEM Panel Discussion,” “AASP/NJ Presents: Advanced Materials in 2016 & Beyond” and the return of industry giant Mike Anderson to present “Who Pays For What? Survey Results” and “Positioning Yourself in the Collision Repair Industry,” as well as KC Mathieu’s celebrity guest appearance (courtesy of Platinum Show Sponsor BASF) and Sunday’s Family Day activities. We hope you enjoy this year’s sold-out floor, filled with exhibitors boasting specials and deals on all of the newest tools and equipment to bring your shop to the top of your market. I hope you spend the weekend learning more about how these industry leaders can help optimize your success. Thank you to all of our exhibitors, speakers, supporters and, of course, the generosity put forth by all of our 2016 show sponsors. And to the countless others who have helped make this event possible, we genuinely appreciate your role in making our flagship event the industry mainstay it has become. Enjoy NORTHEAST 2016!

5:30pm-6:30pm Effective Training for Shops Demo Area (rear of show floor) Presented by Tony Nethery and sponsored by the Refinish Distributors Alliance (RDA) This class will define what type of body shop training is actually required, and which optional training provides the best investment for individuals and shops. Attendees will leave with a clear understanding about their training needs, and how to identify and contact the best resources for each type of training. Tony is a professional collision industry instructor who has designed and presented classes for AMI, ASE, NACE and SEMA. He has also performed OEM certifications and currently teaches for CCC and I-CAR. 6:30pm-7:30pm GM Structural Repair Seminar Room C & D Presented by Jim Mickle, General Motors Facilitated by Flemington Car & Truck Country This clinic discusses repairing and replacing structural components on GM vehicles. The seminar will touch on three important areas to repairing and replacing structural components on a vehicle: Measuring, cutting and welding. Each area relates to the performance of the repair as it will meet specific tolerances and factory guidlines. It is crucial during the repair to validate the three areas to meet specifications and customer satisfaction. The clinic will also discuss the recommendations for aluminum repair procedures for front and rear rails on GM vehicles. 7:30pm-9pm Positioning Yourself in the Collision Repair Industry Seminar Room A & B Presented by Mike Anderson, Collision Advice Sponsored by Axalta Coating Systems This seminar is a unique look at how a collision repair facility can overcome the challenges of today’s marketplace by focusing on the business analysis metaphor of the three-legged stool: 1. Sales and Marketing 2. Production 3. Accounting, Finance and Human Resources. This program includes: • How to attract and increase sales in today’s competitive environment • How to attract, recruit and retain employees from overseas, the military and other sources • How to develop and implement a successful apprenticeship and training program • The Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that should be monitored in a business • The management tools available to a collision repair center owner or manager 8pm-9pm Variable Rate System Seminar Room C & D Presented by Sam & Richard Valenzuela, National AutoBody Research National AutoBody Research (NABR) will present their Variable Rate System (VRS), an innovative and proven technology to help collision repairers get paid what they’re worth and get paid for more of the work they do. Through online surveys and a web-based suite of tools, the VRS gives shops access to market-based Labor Rate data and paid not-included procedures documentation, never before available to the industry. NABR will discuss and demonstrate the VRS, highlighting a few of the system’s many functions such as searching for rates in your market; differentiating your shop based on training, equipment and certifications; understanding whether your Labor Rates are keeping up with inflation; or finding which insurers are paying for any notincluded operation. By the end, you’ll see how the VRS enables you to make more informed Labor Rate pricing decisions, to collect on more not-included procedures and to respond actively and confidently to insurer tactics that seek to keep prices low and to avoid paying for not-included procedures.

10pm TRADE SHOW CLOSES 10pm-12am NORTHEAST Exhibitor Appreciation After-Party Seminar Area

Saturday, March 19 10am TRADE SHOW OPENS 10am – 2pm Meet KC Mathieu of KC's Paint Shop* BOOTH #227 Presented by Platinum Show Sponsor BASF AASP/NJ is excited to announce that NORTHEAST Platinum Show Sponsor BASF is bringing KC Mathieu to NORTHEAST 2016! KC Mathieu, owner and operator of KC's Paint Shop, has hot rods in his blood. Growing up in an auto body shop owned by his father, KC’s passion for cars began at a very young age. He loved being at the shop to help his dad before he even had a driver's license. The school bus would pick him up and drop him off at “the shop” just so KC could be there. At 12 years old, he painted his first car...and did pretty well, according to his father. From then on, it was fate. KC began to develop a skill that painters work decades to achieve. Now, his passion for the art shows in his work. KC’s work has been recognized by nationally known car enthusiasts, Barnett’s magazine, and was featured on Discovery Channel’s series Fast N’ Loud with Gas Monkey Garage. Make sure to hit BASF's booth #227 to get your photo and autograph! First come, first-served.

8:30am-10am Increase Profits, Lower Cycle Time / Supplements With Triage Estimating MEC Lobby Presented by Larry Montanez III, CDA, P&L Consultants Facilitated by Metropolitan Car-o-liner Understand why a triage approach to damaged vehicles in your shop can save you time and money in repairs. Larry Montanez of P&L Consultants, in conjunction with Metropolitan Car-o-liner, will explore how to dramatically increase estimate accuracy and lower cycle time through blueprinting. Larry will also take attendees through proper repair procedures on a 2016 Honda, with a special focus on Honda metallurgy and MIG brazing. 8:30am-2:30pm I-CAR: 2015 Ford F-150 Structural Repair Training Course FOR06 ) $$Tuition-based course$$ OFF-SITE LOCATION: Embassy Suites by Hilton Secaucus - Bergen Room (across from Meadowlands Exposition Center) Presented by Peter Fryzel, I-CAR Collision repair training experts at I-CAR worked alongside Ford Motor Company engineers during the 2015 Ford F-150 design and development process, leveraging I-CAR’s expertise to create a training solution for collision repair professionals who will work on the next generation of Ford’s extremely popular truck. Two years of development culminates in the 2015 Ford F-150 Structural Repair course that covers all topics on aluminum, and dives deep into vehicle-specific repair information. This instructor-led course uses discussion, high-definition videos, animations and detailed graphics to equip technicians to properly repair the 2015 F-150. 8:30am-12:30pm I-CAR: Vehicle Technology & Trends 2016 (NEW16) $$Tuition-based course$$ OFF-SITE LOCATION: Embassy Suites by Hilton Secaucus - Meadowlands Room 1&2 (across from Meadowlands Exposition Center) Presented by Mike Bonsanto, I-CAR As OEMs are being tasked with light weighting their vehicles, they are making significant changes in vehicle construction and technology. For the 2016 model year, a

major trend is the use of mixed materials, such as aluminum combined with ultra high-strength steel (UHSS) and carbon fiber. These changes will fuel a Technical TsunamiTM of advanced systems and will be a game changer for the repair industry that is already focused on improving safety. NEW16 provides technicians with an insider view of the vehicle technologies and trends that will soon be commonplace in collision repair facilities. Content in this course will help technicians and shops understand the collision repair implications of new vehicle features and be prepared to perform complete, safe and quality repairs. 10am-1:30pm Body Shop Certification and You: An OEM Panel Discussion Seminar Room A & B Moderated by Aaron Clark, Assured Performance Network As the industry becomes increasingly specialized, OEM certifications are more important than ever before. However, the information surrounding certification programs is often jumbled or confusing. Representatives from the country’s top manufacturers will be on hand in this two-part discussion on the ins and outs of getting started on an OEM Certification Program, and what to do once you’re on it. All issues will be covered, including equipment investments, training requirements and locations, the differences in certification for aluminum and steel, how to determine the right OEM program for you, how to market yourself once you are certified and more. 10:30am-12:30pm Competing With the Talking Car – Virtual Steering Upstairs Press Room Presented by Steve Feltovich, Sherwin-Williams In the next five years, it seems that non-connected cars will become a thing of the past. This session is approximately two hours, and contains video examples of connected car technologies and how disruptive they will be to the automotive industry as we know it. Steve Feltovich, Manager of Business Consulting Services for Sherwin-Williams Automotive, will explain the various emerging technologies and vehicle changes that will directly impact collision repairers and their customers. Additionally, Steve will provide ideas on how to use these technologies to continue to be competitive in the collision repair industry. Three ways connected cars will impact the collision repair industry: 1. The way they are manufactured. 2. The way they will function. 3. The way they are repaired. 10:30am-11:30am Photo Estimating Comes to the Northeast Demo Area (rear of show floor) Moderated by Kristen Felder, Collision Hub Join us for a look into the push to accept photo-only damage appraisals in the collision repair process. Why are certain insurers fighting for it, what are the consequences - both good and bad - of its acceptance, and what do the repairers have to say about it? 11:45am-12:45pm 2015 Ford F-150 Aluminum Repair Information Demo Area (rear of show floor) Presented by Gerry Bonanni, Ford Motor Company Ford Service Engineer(s) will present examples of the improved repair elements of the new 2015 F-150, including a look at the separately serviceable lower control arm brackets, the inner fender reinforcements that can be replaced more easily, the floor pan, cross member and rocker panel sectioning opportunities along with the new b-pillar design that can be replaced without disturbing the roof. Other topics covered will be enhanced service information, available training courses and recommended tools and equipment for repairing the 2015 F-150.

1pm-2pm OEM Collision Repair Procedures vs. Industry Standards: A 2016 Update Demo Area (rear of show floor) Presented by Larry Montanez III, P & L Consultants Facilitated by Collision Hub A lot has changed since P & L Consultants’ Larry Montanez last discussed OEM repair standards and procedures at NORTHEAST 2012. That presentation, originally filmed by Collision Hub for their Repair University series, has become one of their most popular videos to date, with a combined 75,000+ views. Join us as he and Collision Hub revisit these topics and continue the discussion, which promises to offer an eye-opening look at what’s changed - and what hasn’t - over the past four years. 2pm-3:30pm "Who Pays For What?" Survey Results Seminar Room A & B Presented by Mike Anderson, Collision Advice Sponsored by Axalta Coating Systems Ever heard from an insurance appraiser, “You are the only one who asks to be paid for that”? Find out the truth of who pays for what, based on quarterly surveys conducted by Mike Anderson of Collision Advice and the CRASH Network. Each survey asks shops how often they get reimbursed or “paid for” not-included operations from the top ten insurance carriers. Each quarter, the survey focuses on a different topic: • Not-included refinish operations • Not-included structural and mechanical operations • Not- included body labor operations, including aluminum rates and OEM certifications • Miscellaneous supplies and materials, like jig rental, solid waste fees and more The responses for each question are then compiled and published, showing DRP vs. Non-DRP results, as well as results by region. Come hear Mike Anderson present “Who Pays for What” survey results. You’ll walk away with more knowledge about what insurers will and will not pay for and how to use these survey results to justify not-included labor operations. This program includes: • Introduction to the four negotiation questions • Raising awareness of not-included labor operations and materials • How to use the results to negotiate with insurers • How to participate in future surveys • How to get the results • Ideas on how to share and use the information with your staff 2:30pm-3:30pm Estimating Following OEM Guidelines Demo Area (rear of show floor) Presented by Tony Nethery and sponsored by the Refinish Distributors Alliance (RDA) This class describes the difference between the “normal” repair process versus what is involved in following the manufacturers’ methods to produce a “correct” repair. Attendees will understand how each perspective affects the estimating process, consumer safety, and shop vulnerability. Tony is a professional collision industry instructor who has designed and presented classes for AMI, ASE, NACE and SEMA. He has also performed OEM Certifications, and currently teaches for CCC and I-CAR. 3:30pm-5:30pm Maximize Your Estimates! ***Fee-based course*** $25 per person Upstairs Press Room Presented by John Niechwiadowicz, QLC, Inc. & Jerry McNee, Ultimate Collision Repair Please refer to Friday 5:30pm listing for session description.

4pm-5pm The Customer Encounter Seminar Room A Presented by Jody Gatchell, A & J Collision Repair Set up your customer encounter for success before they show up! • Know what the customer is expecting from you • Set up your office for the perfect customer encounter. • Learn how to get the customer to tell you what they expect from you, and then deliver it back to them. • Discover how to set up the customer encounter so that it will be conducted the same way by everyone who is involved with them. • Unveil how to turn a customer encounter into an online review and a customer referral. The customer encounter is the start of the customer/business relationship, make it memorable. It is your responsibility to take care of the customer’s needs and wants, it is not the customer’s responsibilities to ensure that their needs are met! The way to predict the success of the business is to establish, implement and then deliver a flawless customer encounter experience that will wow the customer each and every time. This can be obtained by setting up a system that will help you know what is needed and wanted by the customer and then taking that information, passing it along to your staff members to help them be successful with the customer. 4pm-5pm Variable Rate System Seminar Room C & D Presented by Sam & Richard Valenzuela, National AutoBody Research Please refer to Friday 8pm listing for session description. 4pm-5pm Aluminum Industry and I-CAR Join Forces to Address Collision Industry Knowledge Seminar Room B Presented by Doug Richman and Jim Dickson, Aluminum Transportation Group (ATG) Attendees will walk away with insights on aluminum use in modern vehicle designs and the impact of aluminum on repair practices. Speakers will detail the ways in which repair of vehicles with extensive use of aluminum is different — not difficult. Also discussed will be the ways the aluminum industry has teamed up with ICAR to arm the collision industry with the know-how necessary to make well-informed decisions on automotive aluminum repairs. Topics including joining, corrosion and dust management will be addressed as well as key training considerations for body shop owners to ensure a successful transition to aluminum vehicle repair.

THE AMATO AGENCY Thanks to longtime AASP/NJ benefit provider the Amato Agency, a number of Garden State body shops now have a lot more money in their bank accounts. An independent insurance agency located in Neptune, the Amato Agency specializes in securing affordable insurance for the independent business owner. The company’s special “safety group” program provides annual dividend checks to participating shops if the group’s total loss ratio is better than anticipated by the insurance companies at the time of premium development. The less claims the group files, the more money the group will make. And when the end of the year rolls around, that money goes right back into the pockets of the body shops. “Our plan is only as good as our members,” explains Amato Agency President Joe Amato, Sr. “As our pool of premiums increases and our losses continue to stay low, we have a much bigger pot from which to pool our dividends.” Since joining AASP/NJ in 2001, the Amato Agency has provided association members with a series of outstanding membership programs, including its popular Disability Income Insurance Program. “Our retention has been better than 95 percent,” Amato says. “When people buy a policy from us, they stay with us.” In addition to offering a popular workers’ compensation program that provides AASP/NJ members with 20percent upfront discounts, the Amato Agency also works hard to help shops navigate through the often-confusing world of health care. As Amato says, “We represent all the major health insurance carriers in the state of New Jersey. We can sit with our clients and evaluate a good, solid health insurance program that can keep the cost down and still provide quality benefits for the insured.” The Amato Agency recently kicked off a new program that provides discounts for personal automotive and homeowners insurance for employees of AASP/NJ members. Employees can request a rate quote on auto insurance, as well as gain information on the Amato Agency’s many services by contacting the agency at (800) 7636574 or by going to amatoagency.com. Visit the Amato Agency at NORTHEAST Booth #701. ACME NISSAN Acme Nissan is proud to serve Monmouth Junction with quality new and used Nissan vehicles, and the best in OEM Nissan parts. American Honda Motor Co., Inc. is pleased to return as an exhibitor at AASP/NJ’s NORTHEAST 2016 Automotive Services Show, and we are proud to be a sponsor of this year’s event as well. Please see us at booth #535 and speak with American Honda representatives about: Service Express: Honda’s service information website that provides mechanical and collision shops access to body repair manuals, service manuals, wiring diagrams, bulletins, newsletters and more. ProFirst Certified Shop Program Last year, American Honda chose NORTHEAST to launch the ProFirst certified body shop program. Now, a year later, American Honda continues to build its network of ProFirst certified shops. Is your shop ready for the next step? Proper / Improper Repairs: Featured in the American Honda booth for 2016 are two 2014 Acura MDX sport utility vehicles. One was a production vehicle, crashed in a small-overlap test according to IIHS protocols. The other vehicle was damaged, repaired incorrectly, not according to Honda specifications, and then crashed again using the same small-overlap IIHS test protocols. Stop by to see the difference correct repairs can make. ARANJ Since 1966, the Automotive Recyclers Association of NJ (ARANJ) has represented an industry dedicated to the efficient removal and reuse of automotive parts and the safe disposal of inoperable motor vehicles. Our members are environmentally conscious automotive recyclers in NJ who are dedicated to fighting for industry and consumer rights, and are part of ARA, the only trade association serving the automotive recycling industry internationally in 12 countries. ARANJ is doing its part to encourage vehicle-recycling efforts with major automobile manufacturers, using the expertise of professional automotive recyclers. We’re ready to aid you in your quest for quality used auto parts by providing links and search engines through our website (aranj.org) to help you find a recycler located conveniently close to you. If you ever have a question about the automotive recycling industry, if you are a recycler interested in joining our association or if you would simply like more information about the ARANJ, our officers and members of the Board would be more than happy to assist you. Contact information for all executive officers can be found on the official website of the ARANJ, aranj.org. We commend your choice to utilize recycled auto parts. It’s the ecologically sound decision that keeps some of your hard-earned money where it belongs - in your pocket! And best of all, you’ll be equipping your vehicle with genuine Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts. When it comes to doing the right thing for yourself and the environment, be sure to do your part with our parts! Please visit us at aranj.org. AUTO BODY DISTRIBUTING CO. From sandpaper and body filler to masking tape and paint, Auto Body Distributing Co. provides auto body shops with the basics at a lower price than most competitors. Anything you need to run your shop on a daily basis can be found through Auto Body Distributing Co. Shop owners also get the best price on hard parts, since ABD provides members with a list of parts suppliers that have agreed to discount their product. We don’t care if you are a one-man shop or a 30-man shop; you’ll get the same great price. ABD’s 46-year history began in 1970, when nine body shop owners joined forces to drum up membership in their local association. Their determination, perseverance and cutting-edge ideas of encouraging participation by becoming cooperative eventually led to an overwhelming response. Today, the ABD has become a force in the industry, and provides stockholders with shop supplies at huge savings in addition to the best hard parts discounts. We thank you for your support! How is ABD able to provide a service like this to its members? Because ABD buys so many supplies, we get a large discount. But instead of keeping the profit and selling the supplies at list price, only minimal markups are applied. Our prices are still cheaper than other supply distributors that sell their products at list price. To learn more about ABD, please call (973) 3737100, or visit us online at autobodydistributing.com. We look forward to seeing you at NORTHEAST 2016 Booth #400.

BMW OF SPRINGFIELD Family-owned and operated since 1965, Springfield, NJ-based BMW of Springfield (formerly known as JMK BMW) is the type of facility known to countless repairers throughout the Northern and Central New Jersey regions as standing head and shoulders above the rest. An expert staff, unwavering commitment to service and a continuing philosophy of valuing the customer above all else has helped make BMW of Springfield the largest business-to-business marketer of BMW replacement parts in New Jersey, and the second largest in BMW’s Eastern region. “We continue to grow every year in sales volume thanks in part to our philosophy, which differs from the typical wholesale parts operation,” explains Parts Director Pedro Santos (who is a company mainstay himself). “We employ what’s referred to as ‘business-to-business’ marketing, in addition to providing an ever-expanding range of products and parts. We focus on getting to know each customer, maintaining regular communication with each business we work with, hosting various meetings and events geared towards them and providing technical support.” BMW of Springfield is also a longtime supporter of the industry through its work with both AASP/NJ and the NORTHEAST show. BMW of Springfield keeps their clientele happy through nearly constant deliveries, many made same-day if possible, with eight delivery trucks that deliver throughout the state on four scheduled routes. In addition, the dealer employs one delivery-on-demand truck, where customers inside BMW of Springfield’s local delivery area can get their orders shipped the same day. For non-local customers, they offer next-day UPS service, and can be reached by fax, phone, email or Nextel phone messaging. The wholesale parts department, comprised of five advisors under the direction of Santos, coordinates orders

from all over New Jersey using products and parts in their expansive wholesale parts housing area. Santos notes, “Our employees’ experience and our company philosophy gives us a huge advantage, which we translate into constantly improving ourselves for the benefit of the customer.” For more information on BMW of Springfield, please visit bmwofspringfieldnj.com. CERTIFIED AUTOMOTIVE PARTS ASSOCIATION (CAPA) There are replacement parts and there are “replacement parts.” Quality can vary widely. Just because a part is identified for a specific make and model vehicle, there is no guarantee it will fit, perform, last or be as safe as the original. Not even an industry professional can tell a quality replacement part from the rest by looking at it or by whatever fancy brand or authoritative name they call it. The Certified Automotive Parts Association (CAPA) was established in the public interest in 1987 to set up and oversee a testing program to assure the suitability and quality of automotive replacement parts. Independent, unbiased, non-profit, fully transparent and with no vested interest in the outcome, CAPA has since become the auto industry’s recognized authority on the quality and safety of parts used for collision repairs. Our comprehensive testing program is a valuable public service that provides consumers, auto body shops, parts distributors and insurance adjusters with the reliable, objective means they need to identify quality replacement parts. Parts that will fit, perform, last and be every bit as safe as the originals. CAPA Certification is even recognized by government regulators as an assurance of quality. What makes CAPA stand out from the rest is the fact that we have no vested interest in the sale of these parts or in selling of certification services. The public interest is what is at the core of the CAPA program. To date, over 66 million replacement parts have earned CAPA Certification by meeting or exceeding CAPA’s stringent quality standards, making it one of the most widely respected quality assurance programs ever. That’s the good news. The bad news: There are millions of untested, problematic parts in the marketplace. To be sure

continued from page 33 you have a genuine CAPA Certified replacement part, look for the distinctive yellow and blue CAPA Quality Seal that comes on every CAPA Certified part. The CAPA Quality Seal appears only on replacement parts that meet or exceed CAPA Standards. It provides independent, objective assurance of product quality. If there is no seal on the part, it is not CAPA Certified, regardless of what the seller says. Shops: If it’s not on the part, don’t even start! Consumers: Ask for proof! CAR-PART.COM Car-Part.com displays the used parts inventories of over 4,100 auto recyclers across the USA, Canada and Mexico, totaling over 130 million parts on the CarPart.com search engine. The website allows auto recyclers to make it easy for collision shops, mechanics, core buyers and retail customers to find the best part for their vehicles based on condition, location, availability, brand and price. Car-Part.com was created in the mid-1990s by an auto recycling family and the president of an Internet development and Web-hosting company. The auto recyclers were frustrated by the proprietary nature of their inventory management system; the systems on the market excluded body shops and repair facilities, and also excluded auto recyclers who did not share the same management system. Since 1998, Car-Part.com has developed over 20 software products to help auto recyclers manage their inventory as well as buy and sell their used parts, which enables them to run their businesses more efficiently and productively. Car-Part.com is unique in that while being a software development firm, the company is also a recycler and operates a salvage yard at its headquarters in Fort Wright, KY. As a result, the company uses the same software in their own recycling facility that it sells to recycler customers. Car-Part.com is a public website, so mechanics, dealers and the general consumer can search recyclers’ databases and contact them to coordinate the purchase of used auto parts. Visit Car-Part.com at NORTHEAST Booth #105. CCG PRODUCTS, INC. CCG Products is dedicated to providing the highest quality of automotive refinishing products that are both cost-effect and user-friendly. Equipment Company has quickly established a strong reputation in the AASP/NJ community for quality products and active support of the association’s work on behalf of repairers. Founded just over three years ago, the Pennsylvania company has built a sizable customer base from New York down to Delaware. Since its formation, the Collision Equipment Company has been an enthusiastic participant in AASP/NJ’s NORTHEAST Automotive Services Show. For this year’s festivities, Business Development Manager Keith Egan and his crew will be expanding their presence to a 20’-by60’ space to allow for extensive displays from manufacturers including Betag Innovation (high-quality pulling equipment from Sweden), GYS (a French provider of resistance welders and self-piercing riveters) and Prima (MIG welders). Egan is excited to once again be involved in the Northeast industry’s most popular event. “The NORTHEAST Automotive Services Show allows us to expand our footprint and our offerings in the markets we do business in,” he says. “I think there’s more offered at NORTHEAST than you get at a national show or something like that because you’re dealing with people who do business in the same market. When repairers in South Jersey or Pennsylvania or even New York come to that show, chances are they’re discussing an equipment purchase or an investment into the future with the people they’re going to do business with. NORTHEAST gives you the ability to build a relationship with an individual or an organization, and continue that relationship after the show.” As the Collision Equipment Company continues to expand its customer relationships and product offerings, Egan maintains a strong commitment to following the trends that are impacting the overall automotive repair field. A regular participant in the Collision Industry Conference (CIC) and the National Auto Body Council (NABC), he considers education and consolidation to be the biggest issues shaping today’s industry. “There’s a paradigm shift going on in our industry where repairers need to make an investment in equipment because vehicles have changed and OEM certification has become prevalent in the marketplace,” he offers. “I-CAR training is something that shops need, but because of consolidation, we’re seeing that the consolidators don’t want to send their technicians out to facilities and expose them to the ability for somebody else to hire them at those training classes. So they’re looking for a higher level of service for training inside of their facilities, which is all tied to equipment training, certification and the reinvestment on behalf of the repairers to be able to work on cars going forward. “We see consolidation playing a huge part in the industry,” he adds. “Collision repairers who are not part of that movement and are not consolidators or MSOs can survive the transition, but they’re going to have to be able to re-invest in the market. Nationally, collision repairers are going to have to upgrade their equipment and increase the level of training provided to their technicians. We see CE Training as an opportunity going forward for technicians.”

FLEMINGTON AUDI / VOLKSWAGEN / PORSCHE Under the guidance of Parts Manager Rich Muir, the Flemington Audi/Volkswagen/Porsche wholesale operation provides products from its $950,000 inventory to a 60-mile radius via 23 delivery trucks. Muir is joined in the department by seasoned parts veterans Brian Temples, Paul Hunt, Fred Laschi, Brian McEvoy and Tim Arencibia. With the parts team working to ensure that shops receive quality parts with every order, Flemington Audi/Volkswagen/Porsche maintains strong customer outreach thanks to Wholesale Parts Coordinator Christine RizzoDonaruma and Wholesale Parts Representatives David Perez (who recently joined the operation following a successful run at Downs Ford) and Pete Rifkin. Together, these industry pros create one of the strongest wholesale teams on the east coast. The dealership’s momentum is maintained by the active support of owners Steve Kalafer and Byron Brisby. While some competitors are struggling to merely maintain their current sales, Flemington Audi/Volkswagen/Porsche is in a state of constant growth. Customer retention at the dealership is also helped along by a popular loyalty program that offers annual rebates to shops that buy parts from a certain number of Flemington dealers, while a special shop referral system awards auto body facilities that refer other businesses to Muir’s operation. Flemington Audi/Volkswagen/Porsche has also strengthened its commitment to OEM parts by using CollisionLink/RepairLink for all three car lines. This presents shops with an alternative to having to use aftermarket or salvage parts in the repair process. Additionally, Volkswagen offers a strong price matching program, while Muir and his crew regularly go above and beyond in making

sure their customers for the other automakers don’t have to settle for anything less than the best job possible. Above all, Flemington Audi/Volkswagen/Porsche thrives because of its access to the right parts at the right time. When you call to place an order, you don’t have to worry about a part being delayed due to unavailability. With nearly $1 million in items stored on-site, this dealer has you covered. “If someone needs something immediately, we’ve got it,” Muir says. The Flemington Audi/Volkswagen/Porsche wholesale department is open 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday (orders and deliveries) and 8am-4pm on Saturday (orders only). FORD MOTOR COMPANY NORTHEAST 2016 Gold Show Sponsor! Ford Motor Company is proud to be a Gold Level sponsor for NORTHEAST 2016. Stop by the Ford exhibit (#527), which showcases Ford’s National Body Shop program and its aluminum-capable shop recognition element. The National Body Shop program is designed to identify and promote those collision repair facilities - to Ford’s vehicle owners - that have the right tools, equipment, training and facilities necessary to repair all Ford and Lincoln vehicles. Ford representatives from marketing, engineering and Rotunda are on-site to speak with body shop technicians looking for information regarding the body shop program, Ford-recommended equipment and other collision related programs throughout the show.

A Ford Service Engineer will be conducting presentations about the F-150 in the demonstration area Friday and Saturday of the show with design for repairability aspects, enhanced service information, available training courses and recommended tools and equipment for repairing the vehicle. Attendees visiting the Ford display can also receive information about Ford’s collision parts programs, consumer awareness efforts and register to win a 2017 Mustang GT in the Mustang 5.0 Fever Sweepstakes. FRED BEANS PARTS Imagine being able to order parts for various manufacturers all in one sitting, with the help of a trained expert. Then imagine not having to go pick up these parts because they get delivered straight to you in a single truck. Imagine the warehouse this truck came from is big enough to house over 200,000 parts at one time, and efficient enough to have your Saturday order delivered on Monday. Sound too good to be true? It’s not. It’s Fred Beans Parts in Doylestown, PA. The man who started it all, Fred Bean, began as a garage owner in 1975 and years later became a parts supplier for large dealerships. Bean eventually decided to break away from the dealerships altogether; in January of 2001, a downtown warehouse was transformed into 88,000 square feet of storage space with a state-of-the-art sales and service center. Fred Beans specializes in OE manufacturers Ford, GM, Chrysler, Isuzu, Hyundai, Saab, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Saturn, Daewoo, Kia, Porsche, Mercedes, Toyota, Volvo and Mazda. Their inventory is constantly moving thanks to 35 trucks leaving and entering the building for deliveries all day. Fred Beans caters to much of the tri-state area, with a customer base that is broadening greatly since there are not many businesses around quite like it. Fred Beans has saved many shop owners time and frustration over the years, and when the desire to help customers expands, so does the building. Recent renovations have added 600 square feet of office space to accommodate Fred Beans sales associates, who receive numerous phone calls, direct email, faxes, and Internet orders every day. Visit Fred Beans at fredbeansparts.com or call toll-free at (877) 942-3267 and find out why they do parts right! The Fred Beans parts staff looks forward to seeing you at NORTHEAST Booth #329. FUTURE CURE Future Cure is a CT-based manufacturer that began the development of its product line in the late ’80s. Prior to that time, there were basically two choices in paint booths: High-end booths for high dollars, or low-end for low dollars. Future Cure set out to design - and has produced - a good quality, mid-priced booth that’s both affordable to own and offers shop owners and painters a comfortable environment in which to work. Future Cure is a “direct sales” company; when you call, you’ll speak directly with staff designers who can engineer a booth to any specific design requirements, directly to the factory for service, support and the best pricing available nationwide. No middleman, no distributor, no reseller. We understand the buying process for a paint booth can, at times, seem overwhelming. Allow us the opportunity to service your needs and allow us the opportunity to compete for your valued business. For more information on Future Cure, please visit futurecure.com. a quality part that often comes from the same manufacturer at a more competitive price, since there is no expense for the third-party evaluation. LKQ also carries many CAPA parts. CAPA ensures that parts meet quality standards for fit, component materials, and corrosion resistance. The CAPA seal is placed on the parts that meet or exceed the quality and fit standards. LKQ acquires salvage vehicles, primarily at auctions, and dismantles them, recycles the OEM parts for resale on late-model automobiles involved in collisions or in need of replacement mechanical parts, such as engines or transmissions. MAXON HYUNDAI-MAZDA For New Jersey parts industry mainstay Rick Weber, building personal, one-on-one relationships with customers is as important today as it was when he first started in the trade back in the early ’80s. Known to Garden State repairers as the longtime parts director at Maxon Hyundai/Mazda in Union, Weber and the Maxon parts department see customers as more than just numbers on an order. Not surprisingly, this increasingly unique business philosophy has paid off. Currently serving most of New Jersey and parts of New York, Pennsylvania and Staten Island, the Maxon Wholesale Parts Division has built such a strong customer base that they recently had to move into a new warehouse to accommodate increasing

54

sales. Launched in May 2014, the facility boasts 8,000square-feet and $1.25 million in OEM collision and mechanical parts. Thanks to the diligence of Weber’s crew, Maxon was able to make the major transition into its new warehouse without a moment’s interruption in their regular parts services. The professionals who comprise the current Maxon parts team include an assistant warehouse manager known simply as “Mason,” who helps Weber run the general day-to-day operations of the new facility. Parts Manager JP Pasquale oversees the daily service parts operation, while Ken Creasy, Bruce Dias and Hector Carrasquillo offer personalized service on the wholesale phones. Administrative Assistant Pat Brady handles the department’s paperwork, while seven drivers and four warehouse people complete the team. With his department always in a state of growth, Weber credits Dealer Principal Michael Ciasulli for making the parts operation an ongoing success. “He gives me the tools I need to do the business; he saw this [expansion] as a good move,” Weber says. Like many popular parts providers, Maxon Hyundai/Mazda is a regular exhibitor at the annual NORTHEAST Automotive Services Show. In Weber’s mind, spending the weekend at NORTHEAST allows him extraordinary access to the clients who make it all possible. “Maybe I see one or two customers on a given day, but I can’t see a lot of those people at one time,” Weber explains. “NORTHEAST gives us the opportunity to see literally thousands of current and potential customers.” Plans for Maxon Hyundai/Mazda’s future include participation in the just-announced Hyundai Recognized Collision Repair Center program, which has been established by the manufacturer (in partnership with Assured Performance Network) to ensure both independent and

Hyundai dealership-owned collision repair centers have the training, tools, equipment and facilities needed to properly repair Hyundai vehicles after they have been involved in a collision. METROPOLITAN CAR-O-LINER Accelerating the Repair Process: Metropolitan Car-o-liner Offers the Right Mix of Equipment, Support & Training Better technology. Faster. Smoother. No guesswork. These are comments Metropolitan Car-o-liner hears frequently about the Car-O-Liner equipment it sells and services. But what the company values most is the feedback they receive from customers after the sale. Highly knowledgeable. Unbelievable customer service. Dedicated. A resource and an asset. “I’ve never worked with a company so dedicated to making sure we have the right equipment and this much support,” says Shawn Abate, tech manager at The Collision Centers in Patchogue, NY. “They’ve made our lives so much easier.” Since 1979, body shop owners in the Northeast have trusted Metropolitan Car-o-liner as their go-to resource for staying on top of a constantly evolving industry. “Metropolitan Car-o-liner has always adapted to the changes in the collision repair industry,” says President Dave Demarest, Jr. “We supply the latest measuring,

holding and welding equipment, along with in-depth training so our customers can provide safe, profitable repairs.” On the eve of GM’s first mass-marketed, US-built uni-body vehicle almost 40 years ago, the company opened its doors within Stateline Auto Body, the Northvale, NJ shop belonging to Dave Demarest, Sr. Through his shop’s relationship with Volvo, Dave Sr. was introduced to Car-O-Liner and given the opportunity to evaluate the company’s new frame repair bench. He immediately saw the value in providing Car-O-Liner products to his market. Many things have changed since then. Aluminum has replaced uni-body as the newest concern in collision repair, and the company now operates out of a 9,200square-foot facility in Mahwah, NJ - double the size of its previous location and boasting a larger warehouse, training facility and office space. The Car-O-Liner brand is OEM-approved by most carmakers, including Audi, Bentley, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Hyundai, Infiniti, Jaguar, Jeep, Kia, Lexus, Lincoln, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo - and it’s no secret why the Car-O-Liner brand is so widely respected across the industry. “We’re proud that Car-O-Liner has the OEM equipment approvals of almost every manufacturer, including those with certified structural aluminum programs,” Dave Jr. explains. “With vehicles like the 2016 Cadillac CT6 and Ford’s F-150 aluminum body pickup, having the right equipment and training to handle repairs is critical.” When it comes to improving the collision repair process, Metropolitan Car-o-liner doesn’t solely provide

shops with the right tools and equipment; the company also helps to improve knowledge through training. Since 2003, Metropolitan Car-o-liner has been an I-CAR Gold Class business, training volunteer and hands-on training site. Just four years later, it was recognized for training over 3,000 technicians, appraisers and adjusters. With its size, the company’s current facility lends itself to the hybrid boardroom and classroom dynamic that Car-O-Liner provides in its training. “It was important to find a location that could accommodate larger training classes,” says company owner and founder Dave Demarest, Sr. “As it is, our industry is plagued by improper repairs. We’re trying to rectify that gap before it gets any worse.” He lauds the individuals who are willing to stand at the front lines of their industry and learn. “The industry is changing, and it’s great to see technicians who are willing to grow with it. This is your livelihood. It’s important to stay educated on the trends occurring in your line of business.” “Shop owners need to keep abreast of changes in vehicle construction and reconstruction,” adds Dave Jr. “They are going to see increased use of aluminum, higher strength steels and alternative materials.” Considering Metropolitan Car-o-liner’s dedication to improving the industry, it’s no surprise that it’s been an active participant in the NORTHEAST Automotive Services Show since the event’s first year. For the 39th annual show on March 18-20 at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, NJ, Metropolitan Car-o-liner invites attendees to visit Booths 117 and 217 to view live welding demos and test-drive the latest Car-O-Liner frame equipment, measuring systems and holding/fixturing products.

In addition, Metropolitan Car-o-liner will host Larry Montanez from P & L Consultants for a new workshop, “Increase Profits, Lower Cycle Time: Supplements with Triage Estimating” on Saturday, March 19 from 8:30am10:00am. The workshop will focus on how to dramatically increase estimate accuracy and lower cycle time through blueprinting. happens, your only chance of saving the job is by adding large doses of eliminator to the clearcoat. This can mean countless small fisheyes that you will later attempt to color sand and buff out. By doing so, you’re risking slippage (adhesion problems) down the road. The simple solution is to eliminate fisheye at its source. Use POLYCRACKER before sanding and before painting to ELIMINATE fisheye for good! Please contact us at polycracker@netscape.com.

POLYCRACKER Polycracker is located in Boonton, NJ. For more than 25 years, the company has been a provider of specialty chemicals for the removal of wax, grease, silicones

58

and Armor-All from surfaces to prepare them for fisheyefree coatings and painting. Polycracker was the first to introduce a water-based chemical in this industry and is still the number one choice. Most fisheye problems are caused by poly-silicone, the ingredient in all of today’s most durable paint protection systems and waxes. Successful refinishing of treated vehicles requires removal of all traces of these chemicals – Polycracker was designed to do just that. Plus, Polycracker completely removes oil, grease, lubricants, fingerprints and dirt. Fisheye eliminators are the not the answer. Adding fisheye eliminator to all paint jobs – “just in case” – can cause major problems down the road, because fisheye eliminators contain some of the same ingredients as the waxes. Adding fisheye eliminators to paint can make the paint compatible with the wax, but using it can create adhesion problems, or wax residue accumulation. Clearcoats are even worse. Using eliminator in single stage top coats is a remedy that can be pulled off, but using the chemicals in primers or the basecoats of twoor three-stage finishes can be hazardous. Using eliminator may help you get the base on, but when you apply the clear, you could get thousands of fisheyes. When that

SPANESI AMERICAS Founded in 1989 by Orazio Spanesi, Spanesi has become synonymous with constant growth and improvement. Raised with an innate vocation for cars and mechanics, Orazio Spanesi’s dream started when he opened a body shop in a small town in the province of Padova Italy in 1969 after beginning his career as panel beater in 1958. Driven by his desire to learn everything there was to know about the industry, he began travelling, first around Italy, then around the world. Spanesi came to realize the inadequacy of the repair systems in use at the time, which were too slow and too complicated, and founded his own company to fill the void in the repair industry. Thanks to a series of astute technical insights, in just a few years, Orazio Spanesi succeeded in developing a range of products that included the Spanesi universal jig and the totem lift that revolutionized the market and brought the brand success. Today, Spanesi is a leading international producer of automotive repair equipment and continues to manufacture the most effective solutions to enable body shop technicians to perform repairs to a high standard of excellence. Spanesi’s product lines include straightening benches, mini-benches, multi-benches, touch electronic measuring systems, vacuum systems, welding machines, infrared lamps, lifts, painting tools, spray booth equipment and manual, pneumatic, electric and hydraulic tools. Spanesi’s dedication to superior products starts with research and development to continually improve the quality and technology needed for vehicle repair. Being on the customer’s side is not just a slogan for Spanesi, but a fact of daily life, demonstrated by an on-site body shop in operation alongside its production plant. Here, each new prototype is tested with modifications that improve efficiency, optimize times and simplify procedures. This is the site of the real “field testing” that guarantees the exceptional Spanesi performance and continuous innovation. Production quality can be checked at any time thanks to a widespread organization and the constant contact Spanesi maintains with its dealers around the world. Spanesi’s renowned customer care and ongoing training enables technicians to guarantee their own customers faster and more efficient service, while making Spanesi the landmark brand in the sector. In 2005, Spanesi added a second factory that mirrors the Padova factory and is located in China to serve the Asian market. The recent opening of Spanesi Americas will focuses directly on North and South American marketing and distribution to meet the needs of its current and future customers, Spanesi has poised itself to be able to support the global market. Spanesi Americas’ mission is to bring new products and technologies to body shops in the Americas to enable technicians to perform repairs to a high standard of excellence. There are no secrets behind Spanesi’s success, just one rule behind every choice: Be a technician, think like a technician and gear your products to technicians.
