Jazz legend Paquito D’Rivera joins the NJCU Alumni Jazz Big Band, conducted by Richard Lowenthal, in a tribute to WBGO radio and Benny Goodman’s landmark 1938 concert at Carnegie Hall. Enjoy an evening of great music, set against the Manhattan skyline.

Bridgman|Packer Dance blurs “the boundary between reality and imagination,” raves the Minneapolis Star Tribune. In Truck, collaborative duo Art Bridgman and Myrna Packer integrate live performance and video to transform an ordinary, 17-foot box truck into a magical world of possibilities. Before or after a performance, step into the Video Playground, an inventive interactive installation, to participate in creating video magic.

Enjoy a morning of storytelling and song with Charlotte Blake Alston, an internationally recognized artist who breathes life into traditional and contemporary stories from African and African American oral and cultural traditions. Her solo performances are enhanced with traditional instruments such as djembe, mbira, shekere and the 21-stringed kora. A featured artist on Carnegie Hall’s Family Concert Series since 1996, Charlotte is a recipient of the Zora Neale Hurston Award, the highest award from the National Association of Black Storytellers.

This program is created for students in K-5, and story lovers of all ages.

Directed by Marc G. Dalio and performed by NJCU musical theatre students

Celebrate Halloween with NJCU’s Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion program! Get into the Halloween spirit with a spooky concert of classical and popular music, a costume contest for all ages, and holiday treats.

One of most recorded and celebrated bassists in contemporary Latin jazz takes the stage with NJCU’s resident student jazz orchestra. An evening of hot Latin sounds, inspiration and fiery rhythm honoring Latin America’s rich contributions to jazz music.

This photography exhibition celebrates the outstanding talents of NJCU alumni from the past 32 years who studied under recently retired Professor Mauro Altamura.

This exhibition is made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

Curated by Peter Delman, this exhibition explores unacknowledged aspects of history as a key subject in contemporary art. It features works of Lewis Colburn, Tim Daly, Christy Georg, Nina Katchadourian, Joyce Kozloff, Stacy Renee Morrison, Michael Oatman, Debra Priestly, Jaune Quick-to-See-Smith, Joshua Reiman, Roger Shimomura, and Gaku Tsutaja.

Tapia’s paintings range from the fantastic to the mundane, and stem from existential thoughts about life, creation, and the possibility of mutated life forms. Speaking to contradictions, the images portray incomplete narratives of unfinished avatars and surrogate bodies.

Urban landscapes are crowded with a dense network of stores, signs, and messages that we have grown accustomed to seeing. Super Brights explores this culture of convenience and the choices available to the neighborhoods that house these consumer systems.
