Book Sale Volunteering Thank you to everyone who volunteered on Sunday, April the 24th to organize books for the annual Book Sale at the Westfield Memorial Library! Our members contributed 23 combined hours of volunteer service, and it was clearly evident that our efforts really helped the preparation of the Book Sale.

DCON 2016

NJ Key Clubbers gathered for the 2016 New Jersey District Convention at the Ocean Place Resort and Spa in Long Branch. And this year for the first time in a long time one of our own members was able to attend! Westfield Key Club President Sarah was able to go to this great event thanks to the welcoming Key Club of ALJ High School in Clark who offered to chaperone. The purpose of DCON is to celebrate the past service year, elect the NJ District Board for the next year, and kick of the new service year all in one weekend! The convention started Friday afternoon with a dinner followed by an opening night meeting, caucusing, and of course a dance. But before dinner there was plenty of free time to take a walk on the beach right in front of the hotel or grab some gelato at the stores along the shore. During the evening activities, there were Key Club members from clubs in Cape May to Edison that filled up the giant ballroom at the hotel, which was decorated in accordance with this year’s spy theme. The caucusing involved the candidates for District and International Board venturing from room to room giving speeches and answering questions from Key Club members. The positions up for election included NJ Governor, Secretary, Treasurer, and Editor plus possible endorsements for International Trustee and President. All clubs would receive two votes to cast in the voting the next day.

Saturday started off with breakfast which was a great opportunity to meet members from other clubs over a delicious croissant and jam or full out eggs, bacon and toast. Afterwards, a meeting led straight into a morning of workshops. These workshops were where new club officers were being trained, you could hear from the Key Note speaker, Mr. John Shertzer, or learn how to help your club recruit new members among so many more options. Although a box lunch was provided many Key Clubbers ventured outside to the go out and eat for lunch and explore for the afternoon. Voting delegates returned to the hotel to cast their ballots in the contested elections and dinner followed. That evening awards and scholarships were handed out to clubs, members, officers, advisers, and Kiwanians for their dedication to service through the K-Family. Westfield brought home the 100% CMRF Award for submitting every one of our monthly report forms, the Big 10 Award for increasing membership by 10%, and third place in Digital Poster Contest. Plus Westfield Officers Emily Mordkovich, Franki Colucci, and Sarah Morton received Distinguished Officer Awards. And of course there was another dance that evening. The last day of DCON included the election results and handing over of the District Board positions. Our Lieutenant Governor Stephanie Gonzalez retired after an awesome year of serving Division 14 and as our new Lieutenant Governor Rohan Mekala was installed. The following District Board was installed as well: Governor Luke McGeown, Secretary Megan Nevola, Treasurer Ciara Clarkin, Editor Julien Rosenbloom, and Webmaster Akshaya Dinesh. Overall it was a very successful weekend where Key Clubbers meet, celebrated, learned and were inspired to make this service year the best one yet. Next year’s DCON will take place on Mach 31st-April 2nd and Westfield hopes to send many members!
