A Key to Love With Valentine’s Day just passing we hope you continue to share your love for service!

Want to be an officer next year? Here are some quick descriptions of the different officer positions. Elections will be held at the March meeting and officers will be elected by current members. Each member can only run for one position. President – Leads the Key Club and officers, communicates with adviser, Lieutenant Governor, and Kiwanis Vice President- Helps out all officers, handles morning announcements, and steps up when other officers can’t be there Corresponding Secretary – Handles communication with members and publicity for events Recording Secretary – Takes minutes at meetings and fills out Club Monthly Report Form Treasurer – Keeps track of the Key Club treasury and handles dues Editor – Writes the WHS Key Club newsletter Webmaster – Creates and managers a website for the WHS Key Club and handles social media

Next Kiwanis Meeting for Parents The Kiwanis Club is the parent organization of Key Club and a new club is being chartered in Westfield this year! Please invite your parents and neighbors to a Westfield Kiwanis meeting on Tuesday, February 23rd at the YMCA from 6:30pm7:30pm. If your parents have questions they can contact Susan Dougherty by email at crusadersue@hotmail.com


Division 14 Lieutenant Governor Elections On January 30th WHS Key Club VP Ben Cook and general member Catherine Simon attended the Division 14 Lieutenant Governor Elections at JP Stevens. After listening to several candidates from high schools in the Division the ballots were cast. Meet the new Lieutenant Governor of Division 14 – Rohan from JP Stevens High School! He’ll begin his term on after the last day of DCON on April 3rd, 2016!

March for Babies – May 1st At our February meeting we discussed our participation in the March for Babies on May 1st at Rutgers Stadium to benefit March of Dimes. We decided that our team fundraising goal will be $3,500! All the money fundraised is going towards research to fight premature births! Make sure to sign up for the event and start sending the fundraising page around to family and friends to help us reach our goal! Follow the directions below to join the WHS Key Club 2016 Team online and start fundraising! 1) Go to this website

DCON – District Convention The spy themed District Convention or DCON will take place on April 1st-3rd at Ocean Place Resort and Spa in Long Branch New Jersey! It is a three day convention that celebrates the year of service for New Jersey Key Clubs! This event marks the beginning and end of the Key Club service year. There are workshops, contests, and dances all taking place only yards away from the beach. We are in the process of working out logistics for those members who expressed interest in the event. Check out the next page to see the different contests you can enter for DCON even if you aren’t attending! Any member who submits something to a contest will be given 2 service hours and a box of cookies at the March meeting!


DCON Contests You can enter one of these contests even if you aren’t attending the convention! All submissions are due at the March meeting! Any member who submits something to a contest will be given 2 service hours and a box of cookies at the March meeting! Please reach out to an officer before starting a project so that we can give the specific guidelines! Best Club T-Shirt Design (NEW!) This award recognizes the best club TShirt Design in the NJ District. Clubs must bring TWO identical t-shirts to be judged at District Convention upon arrival. Be creative and stand out!

Non-Traditional Scrapbook Contest For this award, clubs design a nontraditional scrapbook of the Key Club service year. First, second, and third places will be awarded.

Drawn Poster Contest Create a non-digital poster to recruit new Key Club members. It will be judged based on appearance and effectiveness of message. It should not bear the name of any school, community, or district.

Traditional Scrapbook Contest For this award, clubs design a traditional scrapbook of their Key Club service year. First, second, and third places will be awarded.

Digital Poster Contest Create a poster on the computer to recruit new Key Club members. It will be judged based on appearance and effectiveness of message. It should not bear the name of any school, community, or district.

Video Contest Create a video designed to promote Key Club, your Key Club, or both. It must be 30-60 seconds in length and must be VHS or DVD clip. The entry must be playable on a computer and a DVD player.
