Senior Open Letter to Key Club Key Club is the largest club at my high school and it's had such an impact on me for the past four years. When I joined freshman year, my motivation to join rested on how Key Club would look on my college applications. But as I got more involved, I recognized that the club had more to offer than just community service. During sophomore year, an event called Miracles for Myeloma 5K Run/Walk appeared on the club’s agenda. Being an avid runner, I instantly signed up without realizing what the event would bring to me. Before the race, I helped set up the park with balloons, memoirs for those who suffering from the disease and water stands. I heard bits of stories of those who suffered from the disease and the stories made it feel like I was making a difference. The race begins and the next three miles seemed easy after hearing the stories. Surprisingly, I finish the race in first place. The win wasn’t even the best part but rather knowing I made an impact was. Since that day, I’ve been supporting the annual race for Myeloma and making a change for three years. It still feels amazing and I can only thank Key Club for this experience. By: Simonne Sequeira Senior Key Club Member

Letters to The Troops On January 20th, Key Clubbers met in the ALJ High School at 7pm to write letters to our American troops. After discussing future events and what the meeting’s activity would be, all the members began writing their letters. Matt Gallo, one of the club’s editors, wrote about how his swim season is going. I wrote about how much snow we are suppose to get that week. Of course, the students thanked the troops and service people for their strength and sacrifice to protect America. Overall, the meeting was a success and we hope the troops enjoyed our letters.

Operation Gratitude Kristen Adamowitz, the club’s secretary, has taken the lead with one of January's projects. ALJ Key Club will be collecting various items for the American service women and men. The collection will be running all this month and hours will vary depending on the item. But the main focus is to help our troops out and give them a feeling of home with some comfort items and basic necessities. Any questions ask Kristen or Mrs. Zamboni.

Storm Jonas For the past years, Key Club has offered free shoveling to anyone in the community that needs help cleaning out the snow from their driveways, side walks and anything else. On the fourth weekend of January, Storm Jonas swept through New Jersey leaving twenty seven inches of snow behind. Everyone needed help cleaning out snow and that’s where Key Club stepped in to help. All the members who volunteered went to the houses of elders, churches, friends and family who needed assistance. The high school’s secretary was overjoyed when she saw one of our Key Clubbers, Hart Williams, come over with extra help to clear the snow. Our secretary was extremely thankful and told Mrs. Zamboni how touched she was.

“It was so kind– I cried and kissed Hart too!”

We are asking volunteers to bring some Valentine’s Day cards and be willing to play some board games and Bingo. More details about rides to the nursing home will be discussed at the next meeting. Let’s spread the love this Valentine’s Day weekend!
