Special points of interest:  Operation Christmas Child Items and Ages  Thanksgiving Cards for Veterans  Refugee Drive Success  Melanoma Walk Turn out

Club has a multitude of events planned November and December. For example, a known favorite, Operation Christmas Child is about to begin. In this event the members of the Key Club will put toys and other items in cute boxes for children of multiple ages. There are three different age categories and the toys are placed according to those ages. Another heartwarming thing that our Key Club does during this time to give thanks is we make Thank You cards for Veterans. In addition, the club will hold a bake sale whose profits will go to the American Cancer Society. The J.F.K Key Club recently wrapped up it’s Refugee Drive which resulted in a wide variety of household items being collected. The club also successfully held a Melanoma Walk. The Walk had a great turnout. There were refreshments for the walkers.

Melanoma Walk JFK Memorial High School Key Club hosted its first walk on October 18th. The walk was dedicated to research for melanoma. One of the teachers in the school has suffered through Melanoma and she lives to tell the tale. Ms. Sandra DePaulo inspires the students and teachers at JFK Memorial High School to make a difference. The walk had a great turnout. Around thirty people came to support the cause and each of them donated at least five dollars. A majority of them were members of the Key Club but a handful were parents and other children from the school. The walk took place of the school track. Since the distance goal was a 5K, the participants walked around the track 12.5 times. Not only was it a good opportunity to help the community, but it was also an enjoyable event. Snacks such as chips and cupcakes were being sold to the participants. Everyone was able to walk, enjoy tasty snacks, and give back to their community. All the money made during the event will go to the Melanoma Research foundation to help treat anyone that is suffering with Melanoma. Even the smallest good deed can make an enormous difference and that’s what the John F. Kennedy Memorial High School Key Club plans to do.

Refugee Household Items Drive John F Kennedy Memorial High School recently wrapped up a refugee drive which was held prominently during the month of October. Many students selflessly donated household items to help refugees in our very own New Jersey area. Students were encouraged to bring their items on the day of the meetings but many members also brought them outside of the club meetings. All of the executive members as well as Miss Halloran were accepting items. By the end of the drive we collected about a truck full of items. All of these items will help refugees who will greatly appreciate what the J.F.K Key Club has done for them. The Key Club teamed up with the school Student Council to collect as many items as possible. This was the first time that the club has taken up an activity such as this and we are proud to announce that it was a success.

Bake Sale John F. Kennedy Memorial High School is planning to hold a bake sale in November. All the profit from the bake sale will go to the American Cancer Society. There will be a variety of bakes goods such as cookies, cupcakes, and brownies. Some of them will be baked by the members of the club and others will be bought. Every treat will be about a dollar. The sale will take place afterschool outside the auditorium. This way the students may pick up a delicious goodie on their way out after a tough day. They can look forward to a little sweetness after all that hard work. The members of the club will be ready to serve students the baked goodies at the bake sale table. This is a fun way o not only have tasty treats, but provide for our community. See the next issue to find out the results!

Thanksgiving Cards for Veterans Thanksgiving Cards for our Enlisted Soldiers How are you spending your Thanksgiving? In the company of loved ones around you, a spread of food on your table, and a loving feeling in your heart. Solders who fought on the front line didn’t have that comfort. They were away from the people that they love, from that feeling of companionship that we feel and take for granted. So this Thanksgiving we will be sending cards to those who sacrificed their well being to protect us. These cards will show these brave men and women that this Thanksgiving we are thankful to them and for them. All the members of the club will meet up and make these loving cards to thank the veterans. The artistic materials will all be provided. These cards are our chance to put a smile on someone’s face. They have done so much for us that it would be effortless for the Key

Operation Christmas Child Every year the JFK Key Club members eagerly wait for Christmas time to come because of the beloved Operation Christmas Child Program. In Operation Christmas Child the members of the club put various toys for children of three different age categories in shoeboxes. Every one receives a box and toys to put in the boxes. The way it works is all the toys are laid out on three tables while the boxes that are completed go on a fourth table. Every box made is more volunteer hours added for the members. It’s a great way to give gifts to those children that really appreciate it. All members stay afterschool for about an hour. These children deserve this happiness and we are happy to give it to them. For us it’s an hour of putting toys in boxes but for them it’s endless joy.
