Walk

Tooling Around the Township A multitude of events are coming up this year. We are going back out there to help those in our own towns that need it. Those people that may have a roof over their heads but no part of their house is warm in the winter months. Those of us that have a warm place to sleep tonight will be gathering volunteers to make repairs to the homes of

senior citizens, disabled and low-income residents unable to do so themselves or residents presently facing a financial burden. Everyone can help! If you have time to give we can use any skills you have towards repairing a house. If you don’t we take cash, checks and cards. We hope your as excited about this as we are.

Cool Off with a Popsicle How does a student get the feeling of Summer vacation back? A cool popsicle should bring all the beach memories back. In September we

are selling icy cool popsicles to everyone who would like one. After a tough day at school a refreshing popsicle is the perfect treat.

Popsicle Sales As soon as school starts the John F Kennedy Memorial High School will have a popsicle sale. We will sell multicolored popsicles that will refresh any student after a hard day of school work. All students will be able to purchase a popsicle on their way out of school. Each popsicle will cost one dollar. All of the money that is raised will be given to the American Cancer Society.

Breast Cancer Walk In the upcoming year a Breast Cancer Walk will also take place. The students that are participating can have someone sponsor them for every mile that they walk or they can donate a certain amount of money themselves. All the members of our team will wear pink to symbolize our support. We will be walking with the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

Program for the American Cancer Society. The donations will go towards funding groundbreaking breast cancer research, providing free, comprehensive information and support for those touched by breast cancer; and helping people take steps to reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it is most treatable.

“I often wonder, where would we be without the funding raised through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events? -Leslie

Operation Christmas Child Operation Christmas Child is one of our biggest upcoming events . For this volunteering opportunity the members of Key Club each receive a shoe box to fill with anything that they would like to gove to children in need. The items in the box could be pencils, pens, stuffed

animals and even candy! Each box that students fill will result in one volunteering hour, They can even wrap the box in wrapping paper so it looks like a Christmas gift!

“A small candy cane brought a big smile to my face when I received a shoebox gift in an orphanage following the Rwandan genocide. -Alex

Cards For Veterans In the upcoming school year the JFK Memorial high school key club will make Cards for Veterans. These cards will be made by our very own members and each card will result in one volunteer hour. All the supplies will be provided by the Key Club. Cards can also be made at home. All cards made at home need to be given to any of the members on the executive board to send it to the soldiers. They will be sent on holidays

such as Christmas, Thanksgiving and Valentines Day. The cards are meant to boost the morale of all the veterans that were away from their friends and family. They sacrificed their lives every day so the least that the Key Club can do is sacrifice a few hours of card making to put a smile on their faces. The cards are more than just a way to give someone happiness.

M.S. Walk The John F. Kennedy Memorial High School Key Club will do an MS Walk during the school year. Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Walk MS connects people living with MS and those who care about them.

National Multiple Sclerosis Society supports multiple sclerosis research, offers services for people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, provides professional education programs, and furthers advocacy efforts more than any other multiple sclerosis organization in the world. MS symptoms are variable and unpredictable. No two people have exactly the same symptoms, and each person’s symptoms can change or fluctuate over time. This event is not limited to those in the Key Club. Although the Key Club is organizing it, anyone may participate with a simple donation of five dollars which will go to the National MS Society. The club can walk around the track or we can walk around the school in order to complete the distance. The event will take place after school. Donations for the walk can be handed in either right before the walk begins or they can be given to a member of the executive board any time before that. At the end we will total up the amount raised and share it with everyone who participated.

Bake Sale A variety of Bake Sales took place last year and many will take place in the upcoming year. There will be many different baked goods for the students to choose from. They can buy these baked goods during lunch time or after school when they are leaving to go home. There’ s nothing like a delicious red velvet cupcake after a long day of Calculus and Biology. Some of the goods at the bake sale will be cupcakes, brownies, and chocolate chi[ cookies. Members of the club can either bake the goods at home or but them from a store. The sale will run for one to two days so that everyone has a chance to buy something . Members of the Key Club will be available to hand out the snacks after school and during lunch. If any extra information is needed students may ask any of the Key Club members.
