Individual Club Fundraising Goal: $190.00 Children’s Miracle Network – Helps children’s hospitals purchase equipment, carry out research and help pay for costly surgeries Individual Club Fundraising Goal: $1,925.50 UNICEF – Protects the wellbeing and rights of children around the globe Individual Club Fundraising Goal: $170.00

March of Dimes Representative Recap At the first meeting of the year we were joined by Ms. Cimaglia the March of Dimes representative for Union County. Playing a fun little trivia game involving lollipops we learned some more about the work March of Dimes has done. Thanks Ms. Cimaglia! Where does March of Dimes get its name? President Franklin D. Roosevelt created March of Dimes in 1938 under the name National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis to find a cure for polio. People were asked to send in one dime as a donation and the organization found a vaccine for polio!

Look Out For Alan Fang! Look out for dedicated Key Club member Alan Fang in Stephania’s next divisional newsletter!

Today March of Dimes focuses on fighting prematurity in babies.

Thank you to all! Thank you to the 40 people who attended the first meeting of the year!

Track or Treat On Halloween, this Saturday October 31st, North Brunswick’s Key Club is hosting a walk/run to benefit the NJ Community Food Bank. There will be food and free candy! Admission is $5 or $3 plus 2 non-perishable items. Registration starts at 10:40am. Come out and support the Food Bank and a fellow Key Club!

November 17th Prematurity Awareness Day On November 17th Key Club will be celebrating National Prematurity Awareness Day for March of Dimes. We will be placing a purple ribbon with a fact about prematurity on one out of ten chairs in the cafeteria to represent the 1 in 10 babies that will be born premature. If you can help out setting up before school or cleaning up after school sign up at the next meeting! Don’t forget to wear purple!

Spike Out Hunger Volleyball Tournament On Sunday November 22nd at Arthur L. Johnson High School there will be a volleyball tournament between Key Club Division 11 and our Division, Division 14! Westfield Key Club will have our own team so make sure to come and support them! Tickets can be bought ahead of time at a Key Club meeting or at the door. If you bring 2 cans of food to donate you will also be entered into a raffle! All proceeds go to the New Jersey Foodbanks! We will also be working with ALJ High School and JP Stevens High School to help decorate the gym for the event. So keep your eyes peeled for opportunities to help out!

Service Hours = Rewards Key Club makes it easy to keep track of your hours. We do it for you! Hours are earned for attending meetings, volunteering, bringing in donations and attending other events. The members with the most hours at the end of the year will receive a prize!

Food Bank Volunteering! On December 5th the Key Club will be going to the Hillside Food Bank to help out! If you’re interested email us or sign up at the next meeting!

Autism Advocacy Advocacy – to speak on the behalf for those who cannot speak for themselves This year Key Club’s Advocacy Project is autism awareness. Autism Fact #1: New Jersey has the highest rate of autism in the country with 1 in 45 children born with autism in the state.

Blue Devils Go Green Keep an ear out for the first of our recycling morning announcements. Remember to get the word out that paper, plastic, cardboard, glass, and cans can all go in the same but no dirty items or styrofoam.
