Daniela Bertolone Carnival Magazine speaks to London based fashion photographer DANIELA BERTOLONE about her featured editorial Rough Edges. She tells us about her photographic background and her experience photographing Plan B and Ricki Hall (way before the beard)... Tell us about yourself. I was born and raised in Surrey, I showed an early interest in photography at an early age. I was always showing an interest in my dad’s old cameras. Other than photography, I have an interest in sports and fitness, having completed the 2012 London Marathon. Did you study photography or a related course? Yes, I did an A level in photography at College and completed BA Hons degree at University. When I started university, as a photographer I always knew that I wanted to work with in portrait photography. I met some very inspirational people on the way and during my studies. This led me to develop a little more in depth and focus on fashion photography.

Tell us about your work. I have had the pleasure
to photograph some great individuals. Including artist Plan B and the lovely Ricki Hall, way before his beard existed. I’d like to say over time that I have tried to step away from the more stereotypical fashion image. I like to recognise the true character within in the subject that I am photographing. It brings a different element to how we see what fashion is. What do you love about photography? The different people you get to meet and work with along the way. Which photographers inspire your practice? Corinne Day, Helmut Newton, Mario Testino and Tim Walker.
