5 DAYS, 42 CONCERTS 15 WORKSHOPS 150 SONGWRITERS

“Every meeting and showcase set up by Panarts led to other doors opening” Belfast songwriter Gareth Dunlop.

It’s all about songs and the people who write them. Seven years on and we’ve put together our best line up yet with quality songwriters performing in concerts and workshops. Once again, we’re celebrating the art of song writing and the Sister Cities link between Belfast and Nashville. One of the main reasons for starting the festival was to encourage people to consider music as a career. That’s why we have so many music industry showcases and why we ask established artists like Nanci Griffith and Brian Kennedy to sit alongside emerging new talent in our special ‘In The Round’ concerts. The Panarts team have been fantastic, working behind the scenes during the year and giving up their free time. To the trustees and volunteers, a big thank you. To our funders and sponsors, thanks for staying with us and subsidising art at a time when funding cuts are threatening many projects. Live music creates employment. Support local musicians and value the arts.

Colin Magee - Panarts Director | Anne Coulter - Festival Manager

“This opportunity was absolutely magnificent and very helpful to my career as a songwriter” Aaron Shanley, Lisburn

Message from Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Pat Convery “Our Sister City agreement with Nashville was established 17 years ago and since then the relationship has flourished. The Belfast Nashville Songwriters’ Festival, now in its 7th year, is a tangible outcome of that connection. This annual event sends out a positive message of our city internationally and enhances our tourism potential. I would like to wish Panarts every success with the festival and look forward to the many events over the five days”

On her 19th release ‘The Loving Kind’ Nanci returns to her forte, writing and performing Americana material that covers the gamut from optimism to equality and from quiet determination to mannered indignation. Nanci remains one of America’s most enduring artists, a writer who’s never been shy about sharing her deeply-rooted sense of conviction. In 2010 she was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at BBC Radio 2’s Folk Awards, a well deserved tribute to an amazing artist.

SATURDAY 26TH FEBRUARY In the 1980s Nik Kershaw was a teen idol; his 50 weeks on the UK Singles Chart in 1984 beat all other solo artists. The 90s saw him writing for/ with, amongst others: Chesney Hawkes (#1 hit), Colin Blunstone, Imogen Heap, Cliff Richards and Gary Barlow. For a number of years he concentrated on song writing but also took time to work with Tony Banks (Genesis) and to record a self penned duet with Elton John. In

1998 he returned to making his own records and released the critically acclaimed ‘15 Minutes’, followed by ‘You’ve Got to Laugh’ (2006) and ‘No Frills’ (2010).
