A Quick Peek Into Last Wee Last week (April 19th - 24th) was packed with thrilling sports fixtures Here is a day-by-day summary just for you By Nick Oh It has been more than a year since our school saw this many sporting events take place over a week. Around a total of 70 different individuals from our school took part in the four KISAC (Korean International Schools Activities Conference) tournaments and the two separate football fixtures. Our students showed excellent performance in all of the events, and indeed, it was a joy to see the vibrant, lively sports scene come back to life again Tuesday 20th April

1) KISAC Swim Meet (HS & MS) Due to the Covid-19 safety measures, this year's KISAC swimming tournament took place in a rather innovative manner. In each discipline (50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, and more...), swimmers swam individually against the clock rather than as a group. After all the swimmers in each discipline have swum, officials compared their times to decide their placings. Our swimmers are currently waiting for the official records and placings to be released by the BHA sports department

Although this approach to holding the swimming tournament meant that fewer events were able to take place during the day, it still has significance because it serves as an exemplary case that shows it is possible to hold sports events (only those events where participants can perform individually and can later have their records compared with that of others) even in the midst of a pandemic 2) HS Football Boys Our A Team played a very close game against KIS. Phillip Kim Yr 11 played striker and scored an astonishing 4 goals undermining the KIS defense. Edward Yoon Yr 11 also scored a fabulous goal. Every single student played the game with great intensity and determination Our B team was able to take control of the game. The B team forwards and midfielders applied strong pressure against the KIS from the whistle, and their efforts led the KIS to concede an own goal. The second goal was scored by Jerry Rim Yr 13. During the second half, Jerry was able to take a precise shot through the KIS defense

3) HS Football Girls Our HS Football Girls Team also played a close game against KIS. Our Girls team made the finest plays throughout the match, but the KIS defense was able to stand strong. The whistle eventually blew, and the result was 1:1 - a tie. The unofficial MVP of the match, chosen by members of the team, was Victoria Ju Yr 10. Well done to our HS Football Girls team for their admirable effort.

Both the A team and the B team played a total of five games against KIS and SJA: three preliminary matches and two playoff games. Our A team performed well in the preliminary rounds and played the semi-finals against SJA. The A team had a rough start making a few mistakes but eventually came back strong to beat SJA 1:0. The final match was against KIS. The A team unluckily conceded a goal against KIS during the second half. There were several good build-ups and offense opportunities for our A team after conceding a goal, but none of them, unfortunately, ended up being a goal. Our A team fought exceptionally well, and everyone demonstrated great determination despite all the fatigue they had to bear from the previous four matches. Notable mentions from the players included Junho Lee Yr 12 (Captain), Phillip Kim (Yr 11), Edward Yoon (Yr 11) Our B team dominated the B division, winning every single game throughout the preliminary rounds and the playoffs. The semi-finals match was against the KIS D team. The team together stayed composed and beat the KIS D team 9:0. The final match was played against the KIS C team. Every player worked as a team to beat the KIS C team 3:1. The unofficial MVP of the B team was Kyle Choi Yr 13, his teammates said. His teammates also added that Kyle was an excellent playmaker and helped control the team's playing pace. 2) KISAC HS Football Girls
The HS Football Girls were victorious in the tournament. Every player played strong in all the matches, contributing to their 1st place finish. Notable mentions from the team members included Helen Joung Yr 13, Victoria Ju Yr 10, and Heather Kim Yr 11. The HS Football Girls

especially wanted to thank Helen for her leadership and determination. Helen led the team to their victory despite suffering a knee and ankle injury during play, her teammates emphasised 3) KISAC HS Boys Badminto Several boys from our school participated in the vigorous badminton KISAC tournament. Noah Kim Yr 12 stood out in the tournament, winning every single match until his final match. Noah played remarkably well in his last match against Alex from KIS but unfortunately lost by a marginal score difference Our doubles team with Noah Kim Yr 12 and Tim Guan Yr 12 together competed exceptionally well to be deemed one of the strongest doubles teams in the tournament. They finished the tournament with 2nd place. A massive well done to Noah and Tim
3) KISAC HS Girls Badminton BHA hosted the HS Badminton Girls KISAC. Our students took part in several breathtaking games, and our doubles team competed exceedingly well in the B division. Friday 23rd April

Ross Edgley The Ultimate Adventurer - What we can learn from his unbelievable accomplishmen Sharon Yoon
It has only been eight hours since I was left awestruck after being at an assembly / presentation delivered by our Head of Year. The reason I was awestruck was because of an unbelievable real life achievement of a British adventurer that our HOY talked about. The British adventurer was Ross Edgely. He is most famous for completing the world’s longest staged swim in 2018; he became the first person ever to swim around the whole of the UK in only 157 days Hearing how a human being could swim 12 hours for 157 consecutive days, I was amazed by his determination and his willingness to fight against his limitations. In his 157 days of adventure and fight against himself, a ship with health experts on board accompanied him to ensure his safety. Despite having health experts around him during his swim, Ross Edgley claims his torso was dwelling with red blushes and his tongue started to fade away because of the salty sea water he consumed everyday. Despite the negative health conditions he had to suffer through, Ross Edgley managed to swim 2883.944km. Of course, when many people hear about his world record, most would say ‘I would not be able to do what he did’. Still, these types of real life stories inspire us in our daily lives truly making a difference in many people
