Year 11 Pre-IB Programme June 2022
Welcome to your final couple of weeks as Year 11 students. You will soon be starting your IB Diploma courses and, over the next 12 days, you will have the opportunity to sample some elements of DP study, particularly Global Contexts, CAS and International -mindedness. Registration – register in your tutor rooms in the morning as usual. Period 1 registration will be taken in the rele vant venue e.g. BLT/Librar y etc. Period 7 registration will be taken in the rele vant venue e.g. BLT/Librar y etc. Normal registration for boarders in their houses at the end of the day. You will enhance your collaborative skills in team building activities, make a film and e ven have the chance to get out and about on the island. We will be finding out which of you is the champion at Geocaching and who has the creative edge as you explore Global Contexts. Please check this programme ever y morning for updates, as the venues and activities are liable to change in response to changing weather or Covid protocols. Pack a bag with a water bottle and any other equipment you may need for the day ahead. You should wear PE Kit or House Kit throughout . Always come dressed appropriately for the type of activity, by bringing warm or waterproof clothing if you might need it and by always wearing appropriate footware, never sliders. You will soon discover that you get out of the DP as much as you put into it . It is definitely a challenge but , if you embrace that challenge, you will be well re warded. Keep an open mind. Be a risk-taker. Have fun. But , most importantly, work together and support each other. You are our Class of 2024 and, in two years time, you will be the ones participating in your own Valedictor y ceremony. It’s over to you now. Make your mark , Class of 2024. Ms Oliver

The aim of all IB programmes is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world. As IB learners we strive to be: We nurture our curiosity, developing skills for inquiry and research. We know how to learn independently and with others. We learn with enthusiasm and sustain our love of learning throughout life.
We critically appreciate our own cultures and personal histories, as well as the values and traditions of others. We seek and evaluate a range of points of view, and we are willing to grow from the experience.
We develop and use conceptual understanding, exploring knowledge across a range of disciplines. We engage with issues and ideas that have local and global significance.
We show empathy, compassion and respect. We have a commitment to service, and we act to make a positive difference in the lives of others and in the world around us.
We use critical and creative thinking skills to analyse and take responsible action on complex problems. We exercise initiative in making reasoned, ethical decisions.
We approach uncertainty with forethought and determination; we work independently and cooperatively to explore new ideas and innovative strategies. We are resourceful and resilient in the face of challenges and change.
We express ourselves confidently and creatively in more than one language and in many ways. We collaborate effectively, listening carefully to the perspectives of other individuals and groups. We act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness and justice, and with respect for the dignity and rights of people everywhere. We take responsibility for our actions and their consequences.
We understand the importance of balancing different aspects of our lives—intellectual, physical, and emotional—to achieve well-being for ourselves and others. We recognize our interdependence with other people and with the world in which we live. We thoughtfully consider the world and our own ideas and experience. We work to understand our strengths and weaknesses in order to support our learning and personal development.
The IB learner profile represents 10 attributes valued by IB World Schools. We believe these attributes, and others like them, can help individuals and groups become responsible members of local, national and global communities. 3
