Chuseok 01 October 2023
I do hope that everyone has had a relaxing and enjoyable Chuseok holiday with family and friends. It is a lovely time of year to have a break and, as you can see from the picture below and on the cover, Jeju was looking beautiful in some fine weather. I hope all our students are feeling as similarly refreshed and ready-to-go as I am, and I look forward to welcoming them on their return today.

Coming Up
Looking back
There are the best part of five weeks until the November break. During this time:
Between getting back into the routine of studying, the academic enhancement programme and regular “prep”; the start up of CCAs (the after school extracurricular programme) and Bryant (the Saturday morning programme); as well as, the regular boarding ‘breakout’ sessions across music, art and sport - there have been a series of Aewol activities. These included a movie night at the performing arts centre; a scavenger hunt around the school campus and a trip to Gwakji beach at Aewol.
● ●
Bryant runs on Saturday 7, 14 and 28 October The weekend of 21, 22 October is an exeat weekend where all students are recommended to have a weekend away from the house with their family.
We break up for the November break at 15:30 on Thursday 2 November, returning to Aewol on Sunday 12 November.

Sundays at Aewol 01 October 2023
The “We Are Aewol” Sunday Sessions Part of our responsibility in Aewol is, in line with The School ethos and values, to develop internationally-minded young people who will grow to become responsible members of local, national and global communities. To help us pursue this goal we have a short session each Sunday that focuses on wider global and ethical issues. To date, we have looked at: ●
●
●
The situation following the earthquake in Morocco and continuing to support Education for All there, particularly their earthquake response, as our house charity. Taking the opportunity to develop our own fitness levels by using the Charity Miles app to convert our effort into financial support for the Malala Foundation UN Day of Sign Languages - Korean Sign Language, for example, is a natural language and the only other official language in South Korea. This led our “happy Chuseok” video being in The School newsletter..
●
We also worked on a series of personal pledges around the environment, waste and the like, as we build our house values as a group.
Sunday Activities A new Sunday activity is offered to give our students things to do that will help them become more “rounded” individuals. This started with a walk up Jeoji Oreum, but will expand to museum visits, Olle Trails and the like.
