Halla North News February 2024
Message from the BM December 2023
We have had a busy period in Halla North since returning after the Christmas break. The Year Thirteen students had their mock exams and continue to receive offers for universities all over the world. The Year twelve students are continuing to progress on their IB journey, meeting deadlines and learning how to manage time whilst also focusing on their wellbeing. Here in Halla North, we strive to provide the kind of environment where students can flourish and feel part of a ʻhome away from homeʼ. I have been proud of the successes that our Halla North community have enjoyed and look forward to sharing in the continuing success of the very strong cohorts we have in Year twelve and thirteen. I hope that you will have a wonderful Seollal break and enjoy having your sons home for the holiday.

Student News University Applications Halla North students continue to receive acceptance letters from some of the finest universities in the World. Halla North students have so far been accepted to Oxford and Cambridge, received offers to read medicine at Brunel and received various other offers from top tier universities in the UK. A number of other students have secured places in the United States at universities such as Cornell, Northwestern, Carnegie Mellon and many other prestigious schools. We wish these students every success in the future and look forward to hearing of the ever more impressive institutions that our boys will continue their education in after graduating from NLCS Jeju.
Sleep and Sanctions Studies continue to show that sleep can play a crucial role in students achieving their potential. In my opinion, the best preparation for a busy day at school is a good nightʼs sleep. It is imperative that boys in Halla North develop healthy sleep patterns in order to maintain optimal health and facilitate learning during the day.
Due to a number of lates and some issues with sleep discipline, we have decided to implement some stricter sanctions in regards to lates and poor sleep management.
After the Seollal break, we will be focusing on healthy sleep and targeting boys who are failing to be on time in the morning due to sleep deficit.
Consistent lates will result in further sanctions and parents will be informed.
We will work with the boys chosen to promote healthy sleep discipline and introducing them to methods that promote healthy sleep. We hope that this will help the boys to manage their own sleep and contribute to the success they deserve.
Boys who are late in the morning will lose certain privileges that day and serve a sanction in the evening.
Late students will study downstairs in an optimal environment to facilitate completion of homework and allow them to dedicate more time to sleep in the evening. We hope that these new measures will facilitate an improvement in lates and promote healthy sleep patterns.
Meet The Grads Frederick Bate I'm Fred, a graduate working in Halla North and the Economics and Politics departments. I am originally from Norwich in the UK and graduated with a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford. In my spare time I like to read (currently on 'The Man Who Was Thursday'), go running and keep up to date with current affairs. I am enjoying living and working in Halla North; spending time with the students, and helping them on their IB journey.
