Halla North News October 2023

Message from the BM October 2023

The first term has started well with Year 12 beginning to settle into Halla life, Year 13 completing university applications and our new Graduate Assistants finding their feet in their new role. We are delighted to welcome Andy Jang and Fred Bate to the Halla North team as graduates and we welcome back Ewan Thompson who will also be completing his IPGCSE as well as continuing in his role from last year. The Halla North team remains the same with myself (Scott Davies), Mr. Martyn Fernandes and Mr. Sangduk Park continuing to support your sons on their IB journey. We have some exciting events planned as well as an ʻoutductionʼ program designed to prepare your sons for university and beyond. We will also have a strong focus on wellbeing and mindfulness this year to promote healthy choices and balance. I am very much looking forward to continuing our Halla North tradition of success, creating lasting memories for the boys in our care and moulding future leaders and global citizens.

Student Events Halla Welcome party

Yr12 IGCSE Halla Tea

Halla East and North Y12 boarders got together for a fun night to get to know each other. It was great seeing everyone having fun and building friendships. The Y13 house committee did an amazing job coming up with game ideas that brought the students together. We hope to have many more events where students can purely have fun and take a break from working hard!

Congratulations Y12s on completing your IGCSE! It was great seeing some of your parents at the Halla Tea Party. We hope that they enjoyed seeing where you live and enjoyed the food and music. Special thanks to the music students for performing great songs that day. Y12s, be proud of your achievements and I look forward to celebrating many more achievements with you! Well done!

Student Events Halla Climb - 21st October (rescheduled) All year 12 Halla students were expected to join us to climb the Yeongsil trail of Halla mountain. This trip was postponed due to the typhoon weather but successfully went ahead as planned. It was a little chilly but I am sure you can see from the following photos that everyone had a great time. The scenery was stunning and the students showed resilience and character to make it to the Yeongsil observation point. Well done to all involved.

Outduction workshops Outduction is an exciting initiative run in Halla boarding Homes to engage, prepare and educate students when the leave NLCS. Every new adventure starts with and induction, where NLCS students are ending their journey with us and we want them to feel prepared for life beyond NLCS. All year 12s and 13s have had their inductions and we have the next events planned and ready. 15th October Year 13ʼs First Night Out Out was to raise awareness of social differences in western countries in preparation for graduation and beyond. Year 12 were directed by the medical staff on self medicating, dangers, awareness and again about how to keep self safe and healthy
