Welcome On behalf of NOF Energy, our board and event sponsors, I would like to welcome you to Energy: A Balanced Future 2016. This is our sixth annual national conference & exhibition and we are once again proud to hold the event at Sage Gateshead, which is one of the UK’s premier cultural venues and is perfect for the size and scope of this leading energy event. NOF Energy’s growing reputation as a key player in the energy supply chain has enabled us to, once again, attract a prestigious cast of keynote speakers and a wide range of key individuals from across the UK’s energy industry. The energy industry is currently undergoing a significant transformation requiring operators, contractors, developers and utilities to build stronger relationships throughout the supply chain to deliver efficient and sustainable operations. This theme will be discussed by speakers who are industy leaders from across the traditional and emerging energy sectors including tidal lagoon. Other issues for discussion will include opportunities in oil, gas and nuclear decommissioning sectors. UK companies, including those from within the NOF Energy network, are in a strong position to provide the innovative and technology-led solutions necessary to support the industry in the provision of cost effective and efficient energy. Also the UK supply chain has a tremendous international reputation and is well placed to meet the global challenges posed by the increasing demand for energy from the developed and emerging economies. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our platinum sponsor, North East Local Enterprise Partnership; silver sponsor, Engica Technology Systems; bronze sponsors, UK Trade & Investment and Brewin Dolphin. It is thanks to their support, along with all our sponsors and partners, that we are able to stage such a prestigious, wide-reaching event. I hope you find the conference engaging, useful and, ultimately, an exceptional forum for networking, building relationships and doing business. I look forward to seeing you during the day and in the meantime enjoy the conference and exhibition.
George Rafferty, Chief Executive, NOF Energy

Delivering More And Better Jobs The North East Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) helps drive economic growth in North East England by supporting businesses to create more and better jobs for everyone.
It highlights the areas where our investment can generate maximum return for the regional economy through new jobs and business growth.
The SEP is based on in-depth economic analysis provided by external experts in their field. It will be subject to a refresh during 2016 in order to assess progress so far and We aim to help the North East create an extra set priorities for coming years. 100,000 jobs between 2014 and 2024. An ambitious target, but one we believe is achievable working with our partners in the public and private sectors. The North East LEP covers County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland. The North East LEP Board is business led and chaired by Chief Executive Officer of Soil Machine Dynamics (SMD), Andrew Hodgson.
Our Strategic Economic Plan Our Strategic Economic Plan (SEP) underpins all our activity. We developed it for Government on behalf of the North East. It is our roadmap to success. The plan captures the strengths, weaknesses and challenges our economy faces.

Subsea and Offshore Technologies One of our areas of strength and where we believe we can provide more and better jobs, is subsea and offshore technology excellence. We have a story of world-class engineering and manufacturing, of bold industry pioneers and of a bright future based on innovation. The industry supports 66,000 jobs nationally, 16,000 of those posts having been created in just the past five years. In North East England, the industry benefits from a powerful package of innovation assets, physical infrastructure, local cluster organisations with strong national and international connectivity and the support of an outstanding academic base in the North East’s five universities.
