Fiam m a Vio la, o r Gio Adriana, is a visual artist fro m Brazil no w based in Italy. Thro ugh a m ultidisciplinary w o rk, she articulates ideas abo ut culture, identity co nstructio n, archetypes, sexual issues and fem inism in an o niric atm o sphere that aim s to be an o w n language. A co nstructio n that is no t lim ited to the po rtrayal o f the fem ale figure, but rather includes bro ader fo rm s and co ncepts, besides different techniq ues. Her creative pro cess is centered in the fem ale bo dy as territo ry o f co nstructio n o f a visual narrative that seeks the liberatio n o f the negative charge usually linked. As an artist w ho , w ith clarity o f visio n, do es no t pretend to be a vehicle fo r grand statem ents, revo lutio nary ideals, o r a salvific centrality o f artistic activity, she instead co nsiders her w o rk to be an activity integrated w ith o thers w hich characterise her sentim ents, her attitude and her daily w ay o f life. Thus her artistic interests, w hich o riginate fro m her studies, her w o rk in the w o rld o f fashio n, her invo lvem ent in the o rganisatio n o f artistic and cultural events w ith the M anto va Creativa Asso ciatio n, also reflect the fundam ental co m po nents and the m ultitude o f features o f an art w hich o riginates fro m her life, w hich fo llo w s her inclinatio ns, w hich adheres to her existence like a tailo r-m ade dress, and w hich is thus difficult to classify, escaping traditio nal distinctio ns. Her w o rk is neither painting, no r sculpture, no r an o bject, no r installatio n in the strict sense o f the w o rds; fro m tim e to tim e these catego ries can seem m o re like po ssibilities and po tential fo r her w o rk, w ith the prevalence o f o ne, o r ano ther, no t so m uch derived fro m clear distinctio ns, but directly fro m the idea o f a fine, detailed, patient, and studied w o rk o f excellence.
