project Abstract painting offers me all that I had been missing for years: connection with myself,

being in the present moment, acceptance of myself as I am. Since I discovered digital painting in May 2016, it has remained the only technique I use. I was seduced by the infinity of options, especially the possibility to do and undo until I’m happy with the result. It’s a self-creating process that follows my emotions, intuition, and spontaneity.This state of freedom is my main source of inspiration. about art? Is there an active artistic community? Are you part of it? I’m not part of a community. Currently I’m collaborating with Art & Design

Group: http://artetdesigngroup.com/accueil-home/ They are publishing a quarterly art magazine widely distributed in the world and they organize events combining Art & Luxury. A double page spread will be dedicated to my artwork in the May 2018 issue of Art & Design magazine. 4 What's a typical day in cila art's life? I hate typical days. Routine

kills me. I'm trying to at least alternate the order of my daily activities and to reinvent from time to time the ways I do things. Most of my time is dedicated to my family, my full-time job as a medical writer and my passion for digital painting and philosophy. 5

exhibitions or for other art exhibitions you want to see? Do you love to see the art of others? Not yet. I have the

chance to live in the Paris area. Art is “traveling with me”. The exhibition “Being Modern: MoMA in Paris” was an unforgettable experience. To see the art of others and to discover pieces of art is nourishing for my soul and is always a happy moment for me. 6 Where are your favorite places or themes where you can find inspiration for your work? I create when I’m in a peaceful

ambiance, always comfortably nestled on my couch, with warm ambient lighting and the music of Billie Holiday. 7 Have you studied art or are you self-taught? I am self-

taught. During my childhood, drawing was one of my favorite hobbies. As an adult, the white canvas has always terrified me due to my lack of theoretic knowledge of art. Digital painting is a new technique that was liberating for me. I was no longer afraid to create! No rules, no limits, no destination, just me. 8 Do you remember the first artistic work you did? Not

really, but during my childhood, I remember a smiling sun was very present in my drawings. If you are referring to my digital art, all my artworks since the very first drawing, are posted without any filter, on my Instagram account: @cila.art


9 What do you think about social networks and the web about art and artists? Could you tell us about your technique? Internet offers the possibility to visit from home amazing galleries and to

discover very talented artists. For sure it is the most powerful tool to share your art and to be discovered as an artist. 10

you

about

the

idea

of

your

project? As an emerging artist having a full-time job in a completely different field, I do not have

the freedom to focus on the realization of ambitious artistic projects. However, I started to meet people interested in exhibiting my creations. My first solo exhibition will take place in my city Boulogne-Billancourt with a vernissage planned on the 18th of June, this year. 11 You have organized exhibitions in the past. How does it feel to involve others in your art? I have not organized any

exhibitions yet. 12 What is your favorite artwork? If you are referring to my artwork, at

the moment my favorite is “Living inside your head.� It reminds me of how precious it is to keep a connection with my inner being and not only with my mind. It reminds me TO BE and not only TO DO.


13 If you could show off your artworks anywhere in the world, where would you choose? Let me dream… At the Centre

Pompidou, Paris. 14 Are you reading a book at the moment? There is one book you have on your reading list? The theme of my readings centers

around philosophy and mindfulness. On my reading list: “Comprendre l’art moderne” by Fabrice Midal. It is a short essay, especially on the spiritual aspect of modern art, far from the aesthetic-academic blah-blah that too often disturbs, for my taste, the reception of works. 15 is

share The amazing world of Yayoi Kusama is fascinating to me. My soul is touched by the powerful

paintings of Armenian painter Sisso (Sisak Rafaelyan), vibrant art of Michael Hunter, artist from UK, and the mystery emanated by the artworks of Belgian artist Christian Chaufheid. 16

artist, I was surprised and flattered, that I was selected to be promoted for one year by NNC Gallery. I’m very happy with our collaboration! 17 We

fee

for

the

selection

magazine and our other calls (artistic residencies and art clashes) but for the artists, we have selected and which we will select every year then we work for free. What do you think about this thing? Unfortunately, to be promoted for

free, as you have done this year, is very rare. All galleries and art magazines should at least ask reasonable fees. Many talented artists will remain unknown because of very high costs.

project My work is part of my life, is the most realistic way to contact myself, and is a filter to see

the world. It's through it that I can express my ideas and my distress. About four years I've been painting this portraits, at first, to understand who I am. This portraits, this person, they live in my childhood memories. When I was a child, my parents had a religious articles store with CandomblĂŠ and Umbanda items. I remember coming home from school and sleeping on a foldable mattress looking for those statues all over. I felt cared and protected. The political situation in my country is very complicated - at this moment we have a political chasing in museums, (https://www.huffpostbrasil.com/2018/01/11/santander-e-obrigado-a-fazer-exposicoes-sobrediversidade-apos-cancelar-queermuseu_a_23329719), artists being persecuted, African religious followers as well, the murder of social leaders - and I know this is part of a strategy, it's a form to silence all of us. I believe in the power of art to defend us from ignorance, violence, and when I paint on the streets or paint a canvas, I try to put this energy there. I paint these portraits as a way to protect those who are beside them like I felt when I was a child. 2 Within which mood of art you place your artwork I really don't know, and I think this is not important. 3 Could

your

country

about art? Is there an active artistic community? Are you part of it? I'm not part of any collective, but I know a lot of artists, and eventually, I

participate in collective shows, or taking action in some projects. The art scene in Brazil is huge, and every day I see new places, new artists, and great projects. We are taking the streets with art all the time Although I have never participated (but I'm in the queue), I admire and respect Pimp My Carroça (http://pimpmycarroca.com/) a project of Thiago Mundano, a great artist, and person. 4 What's a typical day in vcalvento's life? A regular day. A

common job, with schedule and tasks. I use to paint in my free time, and on the weekends. 5

other peoples works, my fascination is more with the scene, what is around the artists, cause I think the artist is part of his time, there's this connection. I have just seen a Basquiat's show in which the context of that time was very important for the job to be that way. 6 Where are your favorite places or themes where you can find inspiration for your work? The world inside me, people eyes,

good talks and everyday situations are good places to find inspiration. Music and books too. 7 Have you studied art or are you self-taught? I'm self-taught.


8 Do you remember the first artistic work you did? I

remember that time perfectly, trying to find ways to draw and painting, I did a lot of small pieces, but the first work itself no. 9 What do you think about social networks and the web about art and artists? Could you tell us about your technique? I believe in networking, social media and all of this, but at the same time, I

miss the human component behind the machines. I've attended many online collectives where nothing was done, just conversations and this is very frustrating sometimes. 10

project? The new series presented under the name of "Enfrentamento" (it means to face

something) talks about a posture of confrontation to what I consider a sad side of my time. http://cargocollective.com/vcalvento 11 You have organized exhibitions in the past. How does it feel to involve others in your art? An incredible man who died

called as "Professor Hermรณgenes", had a saying that said so: "Entrego, confio, aceito e agradeรงo". Its like: "deliver, trust, accept and thank" (I don't know if in English is exactly this words, but this quote talks about trust in the other, as it is the fundamental of our life. 12 What is your favorite artwork? Retrato rosa. With this piece I started

this stage of my work, I really like it. 13 If you could show off your artworks anywhere in the world, where would you choose? This is so complicated because this

decision talks about life stages. At this moment, I want to see my work connected with questions of humanity, more than in specific place, because this is an emergency for me, art should be where the people are. 14 Are you reading a book at the moment? There is one book you have on your reading list? I'm reading "Liquid Love", by

Zygmunt Bauman. I want to read Homo Deus, by Yuval Noah Harari. 15 is
