Always Ask Questions Why have you chosen to study Media Studies A Level?

I have chosen to study Media because I believe that it is a key role in society and most of our time is spent on how the Media works. I have a big interest in advertising, films, Media text and how the industry works in the TV.

Is there a particular area/genre of the Media that you are interested in?

The particular genres that I am interested in are comedy and horror. This is because these are the types of genres that I focus on when watching TV and I would like to find out how the Media makes this. These are also the most that I think are focused on than any other genres.

Why do you think the Media is important?

I think that the Media is important because most of our time is spent in front of the TV and has a lot of power on the majority of the society. TV is not the only Media there is, there is also magazines, newspapers and much more. People would be more than interested to find out how it works as it goes on in our daily lives and without no Media, I think that most of the public wouldn't know what would be going on.

How much power do you think it has over our society?

I think that the Media has a huge impact on our society. This is because it has an impact on all ages and has something to do with everyone as said before.

Choose 3 different groups of people and explain how you think they are represented in the Media.

Women: Represented as sexy, beautiful, fit bodies etc. through TV and magazines. These are all edited and are shown as more pleasing and better looking so that more men watch these soaps/films.

Teenagers: Represented as troublemakers, loud/noisy and disrespectful through TV and soaps/dramas. This is to show the elder that this is how they are in real life and to put a negative impression on them.

Elderly: Represented as calm, slow moving and victims on TV. This is to show that the elderly are who to be respected and need help with the most things they now do.

What skills do you hope to develop through learning about the Media?

I hope that I can develop many things about the Media. e.g. communicating with large groups that use the camera's to film adverts and films etc., using the camera professionally, how to approach the different types of Media and in which ways to do this and most importantly what message the Media is trying to tell us by the different types of the Media they use. This would help later on in the future if I participate in anything that involves Media.
