aimed at regenerating the town, Holyhead is looking better than ever. Special attention has been given to preserving and improving the historic region of Holyhead town centre and with this in mind, Anglesey County Council has earmarked £4m for the Holyhead Town Centre Regeneration Scheme. Even though the project is not yet finished, the results can already be seen. Further information on the regeneration of Holyhead and what’s on in the town can be found at www.holyheadforward.com. Festive celebrations in the town begin in earnest on November 28 with the grand switching on of the Christmas lights in Holyhead town centre. To mark the event a Christmas food and crafts market is being held from noon until 8pm at Holyhead Town Hall and there is also a Christmas parade with a train and ‘Ty Santa’ to keep the whole family entertained. The parade begins at Stanley Crescent at 4pm. Closer to Christmas, everyone is welcome at the Christmas tree festival being held at St Cybi’s church from Saturday, December 20 and every day during the following week until the big day itself, from noon until 3pm. And remembering what the true message of Christmas is all about, there will be a Christmas crib service also at St Cybi’s church on Christmas Eve at 5pm. There is so much going on in and around Holyhead this Christmas – make sure you don’t miss out. Visit www.holyhead.com to keep up to date with events in the town, and have a very happy Christmas.

Shining example: Keep skin looking bright and healthy this winter with a glowing primer underneath make-up. Pictured is Clarin's beauty flash balm from Feelunique.com.

HRISTMAS is the busiest party season of the year, and as your diary is probably bursting with assorted work dos, family parties and nights out it’s only natural that you want to look your best. Unfortunately, the harsh winter weather can play havoc with your beauty regime and from frizzy hair and chapped lips to sallow skin and pasty arms a girl needs all the tools she can to help fight her way through the pitfalls of the season. But don’t worry, there are a number of easy steps to help you look great. For skin, the mantra of cleanse, tone and moisturise is even more essential through winter, and products with an SPF15 or above are vital to protect skin from unseen damage. Illuminating foundations or moisturisers, together with subtle fake tans and soft pink cream blushers are a great way to give dull winter skin a radiant glow, and remember to keep skin smooth and cellulite at bay with a daily dose of sea salt scrubs and firming lotions. In addition, hair conditioning masks

or hot oil products will help banish split ends, and an anti-frizz smoothing serum together with a controlling balm can tame fly-away ends, seal in moisture and protect your style from adverse weather effects. What’s more, every girl should be armed with a number of trusty hand bag essentials, and from a hand cream and nail file, to an intensive lip balm, you shouldn’t leave the house without them. Beauty’s no longer dominated by the fairer sex though, and from anti-peptides to deeppore cleansing, men are quickly getting in on the act. For winter months, men just like women, need to make sure their skin is hydrated and protected from the elements with a good moisturiser and after-shaving balm. Plus, for the more metro-sexual amongst us, specially formulated make-up such as ‘manscara’ and ‘guyliner’ are also flying off the shelves and can help boost your beauty during winter months. So for glowing skin, glossy locks and infallible make-up, here are a couple of essential items for any winter beauty box.

Farm fresh: Delicious local produce, such as organic turkey or Welsh lamb, makes perfect festive food. Picture: WELSH ASSEMBLY GOVERNMENT

NE thing about Christmas that we all can’t wait for – not Santa, but the superb festive lunch that takes many loving hours to prepare. Everything from the tender, mouthwatering meat, whether you opt for the traditional goose or turkey or maybe roast lamb, beef, duck or honey glazed ham, to fresh winter vegetables, pigs in blankets, not forgetting the all-important preserves such as apple or cranberry sauce and chutneys. You spend so much time preparing this feast that it’s worth taking a look at where it comes from too. Your local farms spend many months rearing the animals to produce fine tasting joints that you can savour, so it’s time to pop along to your local butchers or farm shop and see what takes your fancy. If you’re opting for a fine goose or turkey it may be worth speaking to

13

NOVEMBER 12, 2008

The greener way to buy your food your butcher now to see when is best to order the local produce. If you order in advance many places will happily deliver to your door before Christmas. Greengrocers and farm shops stock a great selection of fresh winter vegetables that will be a delightful addition to your meal, whether it’s carrot, turnip, swede, sprouts or parsnips there’s plenty to choose from. To us it may not seem like the ideal time to get aboard a boat but local fishermen throughout winter still return with freshly caught fish and seafood, so you can create a succulent meal to enjoy. It’s not just the excellent taste that makes local produce the one to try, you’ll also be helping the local farmers, butchers, fishmongers and greengrocers to stay in business, plus it’s less harmful to the environment if your food hasn’t been flown in from abroad. In addition to local farmers, other products are also made locally from sweet honey, chutneys, sauces, to cakes and confectionery. So shop locally for your festive delights and you’ll be in for a treat.

Beauty. The village enjoys a natural, sheltered harbour and is steeped in ancient Welsh culture. A great place to holiday this winter, you can enjoy the serene and beautiful stretches of the village’s two beaches along with many woodland and clifftop walks. The area is very well served for shops and other amenities. It also boasts some fine hotels, pubs and places to eat. You’ll find car parking behind the Village Hall. Make sure you don’t miss the NSPCC Christmas Tree Festival at Bethel Chapel from November 27 until December 1. Moving eastwards along the coast we reach the town of Amlwch, Wales’ most northerly town. Whether you favour a spot of relaxing sea fishing from the breakwater or the chance to browse local shops for the perfect present, Amlwch is able to offer the best of both worlds. You’ll find the local market in Amlwch open every Friday so make sure you combine a trip to the town’s shops with the chance to browse the many different market stalls. Amlwch’s Christmas lights switch on will take place on the evening of Friday, November 28th at the Memorial Hall with a Christmas Fair to boot! Moving south-east, and staying on the coast, the charming town of Benllech is the perfect place to escape the festive hustle and bustle this Christmas. A stunning destination in any season, winter brings an almost magical atmosphere to the town and, with a number of charming streets lined with a treasure trove of individual shops, local businesses and places to eat, Benllech provides a pleasurable break from the overcrowded streets in large towns and cities. In addition the town’s Blue Flag beach provides the ideal place to work off those excess mince pies. So whether you’re looking for a festive day out or want to indulge in some Christmas shopping, make sure you visit beautiful Benllech.

Since last Christmas, the salon also benefited from the introduction of the St Tropez spray tan booth. This has proved very popular with clients who want to have a tan without the worry of premature ageing and other damaging effects the ultraviolet rays of the sun or sunbeds may cause the skin. St

Tropez is one of the leading brands in this area of sunless tanning. It’s quick and looks great instantly and the client can walk out of the salon looking as if they had just come back from a two week holiday in the sun. Also new to Jo-Bea’s is the Sea of Life body treatments and the Repechage Seaweed wrap. The peeling of life is the ultimate exfoliation treatment for the body, hands and feet. It dramatically improves skin texture and leaves it looking and feeling instantly smooth, soft and revitalised. The Repechage Seaweed body wrap is an award winning treatment with seaweed and triple mint to improve circulation, slimming, toning, rejuvenating and purify the skin. This treatment is also great for sore muscles and water retention. Holistic therapies are particularly popular at Jo-Bea’s. Treatments including reflexology,
