State of The Chapter Well once again, we have blinked and Summer is over. We all know that living in the Midwest, Summer is the most premium time of the year. There is so much to do, between going to the cabin, taking vacations, attending the State Fair and of course going to car shows. Here’s a recap of the club events and activities during the past three months. • Board Meetings: The board was scheduled and meet on July 8, August 5 and September 2, the meetings were conducted at Davanni’s on White Bear Ave in St. Paul. • Technical Sessions: On July 17, twenty (20) members attended the fiberglass repair on a 1958 at Joe Galindo’s. No Technical Session was held in August due to our Judging Event. On September 18, twenty one (21) members attended the removal and replacement of Jerome Lardy’s shift linkage at his house on his 63 Corvette. • Social Activities: On August 14, twelve (12) members attended the Keyes Chevrolet Car Show in Menomonie, Wisconsin. On September 25, several members attended the Kiss Classic Car Show at Grand Casino in Hinckley, Minnesota. • Judging School/Events: On August 20, twenty five (25) members attended the Judging School at Jerome Lardy’s. On August 21, twenty (20) owners, judges, tabulators and visitors attended the Fall Judging Event at Steve Hendrickson’s shop in Long Lake, Minnesota. Now that we can once again get together, we continue to look for suggestions from our club members on how to improve our club events and increase membership participation. Please feel free to contact me with your ideas. Regards, Alden Miles / 612-387-2869 / armiles1226@yahoo.com

Paragon Rewards Program – Wrapping up our Fifth Year
The North Central Chapter is in its sixth consecutive year in the Paragon Rewards Program. In past years the rewards dollars were used as door prizes, raffle prizes, etc. at chapter events such as tech sessions, judging meets, and social functions. In the next few weeks we’ll find out our rewards dollars earned in 2020, and we’ll be sharing that news with you in a future monthly Chapter update or Newsletter. The chapter currently has in excess of 35 members participating in the Rewards Program. We owe a great big thank you to these 35+ members for purchasing Corvette parts from Paragon Corvette. THANK YOU!! If you’re not sure whether you are participating or would like to join those members participating just email Don O’Grady. E mail ogradydon1800@g mail.com. There is no need to have purchased from Paragon Corvette in the past. Every little bit helps the chapter.

Membership Update The Corvette driving season in the upper Midwest is quickly coming to Current Members a close. I have already heard of members working on their winter storage plans. Hopefully, October will continue with the beautiful weather we have had so far this fall. We have two new members that joined the chapter this quarter. Chris Meiser was encouraged to join by Andy Piazza. Chris attended the body off tech session held at Andy’s home and was impressed by what we were accomplishing. Chris has a C3 Corvette. Dan Sullivan is the brother of board member Kevin Sullivan. Dan attended the Keyes Corvette Show in Menomonie, Wisconsin with several other members and received an award for his C3. This brings our membership up to 152. Bryan Parker (previous member) was in town recently and stopped by my house for a nice visit. He has been living in Michigan for the last several years. He says hi to all of his North Central friends. - Jerome Lardy, North Central NCRS Membership Chair
300 Point Tabulation Recognition Member Jeanne Cloutier received her 300 Point Tabulation Recognition Pin at the National Convention recently held in Palm Springs, CA. She is shown here receiving it from NCRS National Vice President Mark Tulley. This has been a long journey to earning the 300 point status as Tabulators only receive 5 points total for tabulating at a Chapter, Regional or National meet. Jeanne received her 100 Point Recognition at the Denver National in 2015 so it has taken six years to achieve this award. She and husband, Dave, have traveled to several Regionals and National events over the last several years.

Chapter Tech Session On September 18, I hosted a tech session to replace the shift linkage on my ’63 Corvette. Fourteen members attended and ten drove their Corvettes. It was a beautiful day. When I originally bought my car, the previous owner said he never used 2nd gear and would shift from 1st to 3rd and then 4th. I found out why when the transmission would lock up in 2nd gear and I would have to limp home (if I was nearby) or climb under the car to unlock it, which was always a challenge. A couple of years ago at another tech session, we tried adjusting the linkage and it did help but every once in a while, it would still lock up in 2nd gear. I decided to purchase a new ’63 shift linkage from Paragon and we set up the tech session. Bob Lund loosened the exhaust system so that it could be moved out of the way; then he had access to the linkage. He took off the bolts, cotter pins and clevis pins on each shift lever. When everything was removed, Bob and Joe Galindo thought there was a little too much play in the shifter so we took that out too. This is where the project evolved into something bigger than I planned. We disassembled the shifter and determined it needed another shim to take up the slack. Good thing John Ulrich lives close by as he had a box of different size shims and we found the one we needed. After reinstalling the shifter and hooking up the new linkage, it was time to adjust it. This took some time but we finally had a smooth neutral gate and I could shift through all four gears without it locking up. Although the session was running late, we shifted gears and began working on the ’79 Corvette. I hoped to remove the valve covers and replace the sealant with some new Permatex Red RTV Silicone Gasket Maker. In 1978 and 1979, the Corvettes did not have valve cover gaskets and judges look for them while inspecting the cars. I assume Chevrolet had not planned on people still owning these cars 40+ years later. The valve cover on the passenger side was leaking oil onto the exhaust manifold which could result in a fire. I had already removed some of the items that were in the way but needed help with the air conditioner bracket and compressor. The EGR valve was also blocking the removal of the valve cover and we were able to take it out. Finally we removed the pipe assembly from the rear of the carburetor (which goes to the power brake booster). Now I need to find time to complete this project. Thank you to everyone who attended this session. I appreciated your help and support. Jerome Lardy

Travels with Chris June 10-12, 2021
What was your first Regional? What did you think of it? Did you drive or fly? Well, this wasn’t my first rodeo, but it may as well have been. We were off to the Iowa Regional. The white rocket ship was awaiting us as we climbed in, buckled up and took off on another journey. This journey was going to take us to Cedar Rapids Iowa to the Iowa Chapter Regional. And we were not racing against a clock. We were racing against a Black C4 that carried Jerome Lardy and the Master of Fun, Bob Lund. I call Bob the Master of Fun, VP of Entertainment because when he is around, you never know what is going to happen. This trip was no exception. We raced towards Rochester on Hwy 52 and took a side road into Iowa before we re-hooked up with Hwy 63. The route was fairly smooth, but a C4 with 400 horses is nothing to sneeze at. When the road looked straight and true, hold on, we were about to go airborne. Then we started getting messages from Bob. Something about brake problems and a need to go back and get his trailer. You know when you get messages from Bob it reminds me of a live performance of Turnpike Tom by Steve Goodman. Do you know the difference between someone who stretches the truth and a liar? There is a specter over the right hand shoulder of someone who stretches the truth and it is standing next to a pile of manure. Whenever Bob spoke, I could imagine seeing that specter. And when Bob was getting further into the description of his plight, that specter filled up a shovel and he was pointing it right at me. It didn’t take long, possibly near Waterloo when Chris, you remember Chris. This story is about Travels with Chris. Chris decided that we were deep into a Bob story and it was time to just head to Cedar Rapids. We stopped to wash the bugs off the car and made it to the Iowa Raceway where the Regional was being held. What a production. There were officials, and car owners and cars everywhere. This was an even bigger production than anything I had ever seen. Every kind of corvette was there and a lot of different colors. Judging had started and the fun was just beginning. I got to participate as an OJ (Observer Judge) right away helping with Operations on a C4. That was Thursday night and we went back to our hotel to get some sleep before our big day on Friday. Friday allowed me to spend more time on C4’s and meet some great Judges through Tom Barr, Dave Houlihan and John Marsico. I think they and Chris are the reason I started thinking about my own C4. It was a busy day and then we got to go to Ted Pacha’s Garage to see his car collection. What an amazing day. Then to Dinner with fellow North Central members before toddling off to bed for yet another great day at the Iowa Regional. This time meeting Allen Tremain and getting to OJ C5’s! Yes C5’s and C6’s are on my radar. We wrapped up and took off, this time with me driving the black 95 C4 and what a great ride it is. Racing back to Minnesota this time in pairs. A black and white C4 race to I35 and home. Can’t wait to start on my next adventure. by Dave Murphy

2021 National Convention
Several North Central Chapter members attended the National Convention in Palm Springs, California on July 17-22. Some flew and others drove or trailered their Corvettes through the desert. The high temperature was 111 degrees. It was a good thing that most of the activities were indoors, except the operations check on Monday morning at 6:30AM. The following members received awards at the convention. Brad Hillhouse: NCRS Member of the Year; Top Flight, Bowtie, and Dave McLellan Mark of Excellence Award on his 1981 Corvette; 200 Point Master Judge Award. Ken Enstrom: Top Flight and Dave Hill Mark of Excellence Award on his 2000 Corvette. Chris Enstrom: Top Flight Award on his 1994 Corvette Jerome Lardy: 200 Point Master Judge Award Jeanne Cloutier: 300 point Tabulator Pin. If you have never attended a National Convention, I would highly recommend it to see some World Class Corvettes. There are also seminars and judging schools. The instructors are very happy to talk with you about your car and any issues you are dealing with. Next year’s convention is in Mobile, Alabama. In 2023, the convention is in French Lick, Indiana and the North Central Chapter will be hosting a Regional Meet leading up to the convention. Plan to attend and join the fun.

NCRS Chapter Top Flight Award
At the NCRS National Convention in Palm Springs, CA, our chapter received the NCRS Chapter Top Flight Award for 2019. Jerome Lardy accepted the award from Mike Ingham, President of the NCRS. We should have received this award last year, but the convention was cancelled due to the pandemic. The Chapter Top Flight Award program was put on hold for 2020 and 2021 due to the restrictions placed on the chapters to complete their requirements during this unprecedented time. It looks as though we will be able to start up again in 2022.
Keyes Corvette Show
We had twelve members who attended the Keyes Corvette
Show in Menomonie, WI on August 14. It was a beautiful day and several members received awards for their Corvettes. Four of us met in Hudson, WI and took a back roads drive to the show. Thank you to Tim and Lynda DeAtley and Jeff Nelson for their efforts in making the show a success.
Kiss’s Classic Car Show
Eight members attended Kiss’s Classic Car Show at the Grand Casino in Hinckley, MN on September 25. Alden Miles left the ’58 Corvette at home and brought his ’48 Anglia which
received a Top Ten in Show Award. If you have not seen this car, it is beautiful. This might be the first non-Corvette car we have featured in our Crossed Flags newsletter but we can make an exception this one time!! Kristi Clayson received a Sponsor Award for her ’61 Corvette. Congrats to both.

Member of the Month July - Steve Boone Hello, my name is Steve Boone. I joined the North Central Chapter last year. Unfortunately, with the pandemic, my wife Barb and I have not done much traveling lately. We live in Grand Forks, ND and have four children. Two of them live in the Twin Cities area, so hopefully we will be able to attend a Chapter meet soon.
He had ordered the ’87 from the Chevy dealer in Minot. In 1990, Ralph and I brought the 1965 Corvette to Bloomington, where the car received the new Survivor Award. The
I grew up on a farm near Grafton, ND. My dad was a Mopar hemi fan, while my uncle (Ralph) enjoyed Corvettes. The cars were stored on the farm, and I learned about the cars while watching the two of them help each other with repairs and maintenance on the cars.
same Survivor judge contacted me in 2015, and asked for the car to be displayed at Bloomington Gold for the 50th Anniversary of 1965. That was a memorable experience, as I have not attended many national events of any kind. In 2009, I inherited Ralph’s Corvettes, so they are all stored in my shop with the ’87. All of the cars are in original condition, except for the older restoration on the 1960. My next repair project is a horn button on the ‘65, which is no longer being held by the spring on one side, as well as the telescopic feature which is stuck in place. In the future, I would enjoy attending a Tech Session to observe repairs being made. I appreciate the opportunity to share the history of the cars, and look forward to meeting all of you at future events!
Ralph ordered a 1965 Corvette coupe, 327/300 hp, from the Chevy dealer in Grafton in January of 1965. In 1978, he purchased a 1976 Corvette from a local owner in nearby Grand Forks, ND. In 1982, he purchased a 1960 Corvette, 283/270 hp, from a gentlemen in Jamestown who had just finished restoring the car. In 1985, he ordered a Corvette coupe, 4 speed, from the Chevy dealer in Grafton. In 1988, I purchased a 1987 Corvette convertible, 4 speed, from a gentlemen in the Corvette club in Minot, ND, who was being sent to Japan in the Air Force.

Greetings from North Dakota! My name is Adam Dever and my wife, Sonya, and I are pleased to introduce you to a few of our fun cars. Our fondness of the small maneuverable warship known as the Corvette began only a few short years ago when we purchased a 1966 427 Mosport Green convertible. Sonya’s enjoyment of classic cars began as a young girl when she helped her dad build a 1967 Chevelle SS. Some of her greatest memories as a child involved working along side of her dad in the garage and attending many car shows. Her and her dad, Bob, spent countless hours working on the ’67 Chevelle and later a ’67 Camaro SS. Both big block cars. Sonya and I were married in 2007 and have three precious daughters. Sonya keeps everything flowing at home while I work in the oil and gas industry in western ND. In our spare time we love to spend time at the lake cabin on Lake Sakakawea and attend car shows. I did not grow up around classic cars, but Sonya has rubbed off on me and I am now hooked on the classics. A few years back I had learned Bobs “dream car” was a 1967 435 horse “tri-power” corvette. Me, being and accountant, had to figure out what exactly that meant. I learned quickly it was not an average car nor was it easy to find (or at least a real documented 435 car). Needless to say, through my research, I fell in love with the Corvette. Most of all, I enjoy the history behind the cars and meeting and visiting with fellow enthusiasts.
area to always help. We have been involved in the NCRS for a few years and it is so nice to see so much passion for cars. I have spoken with members across the country, and everyone is so nice to visit with. We are the current caretakers of a pair of 1966 427 Mosport green Corvettes. The first car is a roadster that was originally a Florida car. The car retains its original motor and mostly NOS parts but it has been converted to a side pipe car. The car has a very nicely done restoration and has been well maintained. Our goal is to continue to maintain and restore the car to one day be judged with the hopes of obtaining a Top Flight award. The other 1966 427 car was purchased from Pete Rosa in Norwell, MA who meticulously restored the car to concours standards. We are the fourth owners of this car. The car is fully documented, retains the original drivetrain and was awarded the Duntov. The marketing ink pens and bottle opener from the selling dealer remain with the car! Additionally, in 2008, the car was reunited with the original salesperson from Mayes Chevrolet. The car is gorgeous and so fun to show to car enthusiasts. It represents a true piece of American history. We are honored to be the current caretakers. The prior owner, Pete Rosa, dedicated many years to restoring and maintaining the car. He owned the car for 27 years and logged less than 300 miles. The prior two owners of the car are still living. It would be fun to reunite all the owners of the car together. One fun fact is the license plate in MA was TOY and we were able to retain the same license plate in ND. Our favorite Corvettes are the 1966 TOY cars, but we also enjoy cruising around a 1967 327/350 black/red coupe (original drivetrain but has been repainted), a 1969 black/saddle convertible 427/390 car (unrestored original), and a red/red 1989 Callaway Twin Turbo convertible (1100 original miles, Benchmark, Survivor, Bloomington Gold). While the quest for a 1967 435 car continues, the current collection has been a fun ride. Hopefully, we are able to make it to some of the NCRS events in the future. All the best and stay well!
I will admit to being more of an accountant than a grease monkey but am slowly learning how to maintenance and fix the cars. It is nice to have so many car junkies around the 14

Member of the Month September - Kristi & Ryan Clayson
Hello, my name is Kristi Clayson. My husband Ryan and I live in Otsego, MN. We’ve been together for 22 years overall and will celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary in October. We don’t have any kids of our own, but we do have 4 furbabies that say meow. I work for the city of Minneapolis as a Section 8 port-in technician, and Ryan works as a business analyst for Allianz Life Insurance. I’ve been a member of the chapter since 2019. We were encouraged to join after meeting Kevin Sullivan at a random car show in a Home Depot parking lot in Plymouth, MN, and talking about how we both had ‘61’s. We have had a lot of fun meeting members and learning more about what we have. Especially at the last 3 flight judging events and tech sessions. We are looking forward to getting to know more members at future events.
We have a 1961 Corvette with the Jewel Blue exterior and blue interior. It has the stock 283ci/230hp engine, but it does have a couple things that aren’t seen as much. It’s a hardtop only convertible. Yup, no soft top. It also has the Powerglide automatic transmission instead of the standard 3 speed manual, and the original owner opted to keep the coves the same color as the rest of the body instead of having them painted white. In doing some research we found that not many were made at the factory with all of those color and transmission choices together. Unfortunately we’ll never know the true number, but most we have talked to figure that it’s less than 100. Since my dad never threw anything away, we know a good amount of the history of this car. We have the build sheet/fleet paperwork from the dealership and the original owner’s initial registration among other original paperwork for the car. It was purchased by Darlene Hemming at Fletcher Jones Chevrolet in Los Angeles in 1961. It spent its first 9 years in Southern California. Then in 1970 my dad, Gregg Tschida, was on a trip visiting his brother Bernie in San Diego when he saw the car drive by. He told his brother that he HAD to have that car. My uncle told him
that the owner lived just down the street. Being the gregarious, outgoing person he was he went and knocked on her door and said he had to buy her car. She said no. The next day he went back and did the same thing. Same answer. He went back a third day and said he was going back to Minnesota the next day and he had to buy this car. She relented and told him she would sell it to him for $1400. He only had $1100. After some negotiation, and talking with her dad, she agreed on that $1100 price. He grabbed a tow bar and towed it back to MN the next day and it has been enjoyed here ever since. As long as I can remember I have always been around Corvettes and loved them. I just thought it was a normal thing to have one, and often wondered why my friends’ parents didn’t. My dad got me hooked at a young age because he was always buying and selling them. Many generations were covered. Including a triple black ’62, a red ’63, a red ’65, a green ‘79, a gold ‘84, a red ‘91 convertible, a red ‘91 ZR-1 and a red ‘06 Z06 to name a few. We figure he had 15-20 different Corvettes over his lifetime. The ‘61 was always the special one though. I knew by the time I was 5 that I wanted this car when I got older. I told him that if he ever sold it I’d kill him. Thankfully he listened and didn’t disappoint his little girl. My family spent many years enjoying Corvettes as a part of the St. Croix Valley Corvette Association and the various events they would do which kept my interest in them high. The ‘61 was passed down to me when my father passed in 2018. It was bitter-
sweet because I was finally able to drive the car I had loved since I was little, but the cost for that was my dad. I’d give anything to have him back so we could go for one last ride together. I named the car Gigi in memory of him (Gregg with 2 g’s). I know I’ll never be able to have him back, so I make sure I have the car our and enjoy it as often as possible to keep his memory alive. Up next, we want to continue to learn about the intricacies of the car. During the time we’ve been in the chapter we have learned a ton from other members. Including just how little dad actually cleaned anything on the car. With the expertise and advice of those we’ve met, Gigi received her first chapter Top Flight award on her 3rd try at the spring meet this year so we may try for a regional next. We’d also like to bring her back down to Bloomington Gold and have it go through Survivor judging. My dad had it there in 1986 for the Silver Salute, but never had it judged. Most of all though, we want to continue to enjoy her for many more years. It was in storage for nearly 20 years between 1999 and 2018 so it still has relatively low mileage. Finally surpassing 100k miles in late 2019. In the 3 years we have been showing her we have heard so many stories about the car, and my dad, that we didn’t know about from many of his friends that hadn’t seen the car in years. We came to learn that many of those friends are members of this chapter as well. So thank you for sharing those stories with us. It has really helped with the healing.

Board Members Absent: Dave Murphy, Bob Lund, Roger Carlson and Nick Kornder. Members present: Jeff Henry and Tom Roberts Location: Davanni’s, 310 White Bear Ave. St Paul, MN Approval of Minutes Meeting Minutes from the June 3, 2021 meeting – Motion to approve by Chris Enstrom, seconded by Kevin Sullivan. Motion passed. Chairman’s Report Alden stated that it was great to be able to have our board meetings in person again with chapter members present. Alden will be attending the national convention and is looking forward to meeting up with Rick Coker, our Region V Representative. The board had reached out to our members looking for help in taking over Roger Carlson’s role as Treasurer. Since nobody stepped up, Tim Saarela volunteered to take over the position. Over the 4th of July weekend, Tim found a home in northern Minnesota and will be moving up there before the end of the year. The board discussed the various scenarios that occur during the year and the positions tasks. The board agreed that during this day and age, and after surviving a pandemic, that this was a position that could be handled remotely. Most banking can be done online along with the tax filing and financial spreadsheets. Vice Chairman’s Report Paul had nothing to report at this time but was working on a tech session. Pan O Prog in Lakeville is this upcoming weekend. Treasurer’s Report. Roger reported that all is well. He was going to be meeting up with Tim to go over the position. Judging Report Chris reported that we have 3 Corvettes at this time (78, 80 & 91) entered for our upcoming judging meet. It will be held on August 21 in Long Lake, MN. There will also be a BBQ/Judging School at the home of Jerome and Doreen Lardy in Eagan, MN on August 20 making this a possible 3 point judging event if you attend both functions. Chris Sherman will be the guest speaker at the judging school. Chris restores 53-55 Corvettes so the members who have those years will most surely want to attend. You can sign up to judge on the NCRS website. Any member who decides to judge will be paired up with an experienced judge which will make their participation more enjoyable. Chris will be sending out an email soon with the details. The National Convention is coming up and will be held in Palm Springs, CA on July 18-22. Several of our members are attending. The NCRS is re-looking at the Concours name for judging Corvettes that have been modified and would have a difficult time under normal Flight Judging. Think Restomods. Chris has placed the order for name tags and should have them in a month or so. Finally, the 9th Edition of the NCRS Corvette Judging Reference Manual is out. This is the book that tells you everything you need to know about judging, having your Corvette judged and the various awards you can try to obtain. Membership Report Jerome reported that we have one new member, Chris Meiser. Chris attended the body off tech session at Andy Piazza’s home and expressed interest in joining. Welcome to the chapter Chris. That brings us up to 151 members. Tech Report Paul is working on a tech session at Joe Galindo’s home. This will be on fiberglass repair and replacement. The patient will be a ’58 Corvette. Joe was waiting for the parts to arrive so details will follow. Activities Report Don said that 23 members and spouses attended the dinner at Lucky’s 13 Pub. A good time was had by all and three Paragon gift certificates were given away as prizes. There is an upcoming Corvette Car Show at Keyes Chevrolet in Menomonie, WI on Saturday, August 14 from 10AM to 2PM. The plan is to meet up in Hudson, WI and head there as a group. Details will be out around the end of the month. We are all set up for our Fall Social Dinner at Mancini’s Char House on Saturday, October 9. This way we can catch all the snow birds before they head south for the winter. Emails will be sent out as we get closer to the fall date. Website Report Nick said the website is updated with the latest info. A member of the chapter, Sarah Lardy, is looking into updating the theme of the website to make it current with security and accessibility issues. A more detailed update will be coming during the August board meeting, including possible new designs and details on cost of updates. Newsletter Report Nick reported the newsletter was sent out today to the membership, emeritus and national board members. He gave a special thank

Chapter Board Minutes you for the extra content that was submitted for this quarter’s edition. He had two other newsletters reach out with positive feedback on our newsletter, with one asking for some tips on how to improve their chapter newsletter. Member-at-Large Report Kevin Sullivan reported that Steve Boone is the Member of the Month for July. Old Business There was none. New Business There was none. Member Comments Jeff was glad to get back to normal and attend the board meeting. Tom is a new member and was learning about the boards functions. He realized that Don and he were classmates at Cretin High School. MEETING ADJOURNED August 5, 2021 Board Members Present: Alden Miles, Jerome Lardy, Dave Murphy, Bob Lund and Tim Saarela. Board Members Absent: Kevin Sullivan, Chris Enstrom, Paul Burski, Don O’Grady and Nick Kornder. Members present: Jeff Henry, Roger Carlson Location: Davanni’s, 310 White Bear Ave. St Paul, MN. Approval of Minutes Motion to approve minutes from the July 8, 2021 meeting – Motion to approve by Dave Murphy, seconded by Bob Lund. Motion passed. Chairman’s Report At the National Convention, Alden met with Rick Coker to discuss Regionals. NCRS enjoys having the North Central Chapter host Regionals. Alden invited Rick to our August Judging. Alden also suggested it would be a good idea to have a zoom meeting with the other Chapter Chairs in the region. Hopefully this will happen. Vice Chairman’s Report Paul shared: We had a great tech session at Joe Galindo’s in Ramsey Mn on July 17th. We had 20 members and friends in attendance. We started the Tech session off by having a brief discussion about collector car insurance. I shared my insurance information for my three Corvettes. I had insured my cars with Hagerty Insurance until a few years ago I checked into the National Corvette Museum Insurance company and found out I could get the same insurance coverage for about ½ of what I was paying for with Hagerty. I pay about $800 per year for all three cars with no deductible and full glass coverage. I have a set amount of annual miles I can drive each car each year. If I don’t use all of the miles I can roll them over and use the next year since I had already paid for them. Another bonus best part is I can a set guaranteed value on each car. If the car is stolen, totaled in an accident or in a fire I already know what I will get paid for each vehicle. I had one insurance claim with NCM insurance and was very satisfied with how they handled my claim. I heard back from a member who attended the session and he told me he is planning on having NCM insurance send him a quote because he was paying over twice as much with his current insurance company. For the hands on portion of the tech session: We bonded a new PM (Press Molded) fiberglass valance on a 58 Corvette. The original valance was badly damaged and Joe decided it would be easier to replace it instead of trying to repair it. Before the session Joe had already fit the new front valance on the car and had it screwed into place with sheet rock screws and large washers. Joe uses the large washers to properly align the panels to each other. We took the valance off the car and applied bonding compound to both the car and the valance. We reinstalled the valance and carefully reinstalled the screws and washers. I will do a write up for the session and submit it to Nick for the newsletter. Treasurer’s Report. Paid balance of Eagan Civic Arena fees for Spring Judging event; Reimbursement to Chris Enstrom for name tags and ribbons; Tim met with Roger Carlson July 10 to transition the Treasurer role. Tim now has access to all accounts with a few remaining steps still in progress; US Bank – address change request submitted; PayPal – contact change request submitted; Gmail – transfer complete; MN Secretary of State – new account established. Emails will be sent out to members as we get closer to the fall date. Don’t forget Cary Kissner’s Car Show on Sept 25 at Grand Casino Hinckley. Website Report Website information is up-to-date. The SSL* on the site is still out of date. A review from a web design company provided options to update the “WordPress” site with a new theme and updated SSL along with responsive capabilities. Their cost was over $2,000. After visiting with a member of the club (with a web design background), they felt they could come up with a new theme and update the site with modern SSL at a fraction of the cost of the web company. With board approval, the member can begin working on the site and present some new themes for the board to review. * SSL stands for “Secure Sockets Layer”, a security protocol that creates an encrypted link between a web server and a web browser. The Board discussed a proposal made by Sarah Lardy and Alden made a motion to have Sarah develop a new theme and update the site with modern SSL for under $1000. Dave Murphy seconded and the motion carried. Newsletter Report We are always looking for articles for the Newsletter. Please pass along any info you would like included in the next publication. MAKING JUDGING SHEET REFERENCES BASED ON THE C-D-C-I-F As the NCRS judging system is based on 5 different descriptions for ORIGINALITY, with each having a value of 20%, it is most helpful to the owner, that we use the same descriptions for the comments on the sheets, when we judge their cars. C = CONFIGURATION D = DATE C = COMPLETENESS I = INSTALLATION F = FINISH The use of words like “Service Replacement”, “Reproduction” or “Restoration” are very little to no help to the owner, since they do not describe WHAT the difference to original is. Since we judge the APPEARANCE of ORIGINALITY, we do not care where the particular judged part comes from (Original GM, Restoration Parts House or Neighbors Shed). BAD WORDS:
INSTEAD USE:
“Wrong”
“Not Typical”
“Incorrect”
“Not Typical”
Certain parts, which do not reflect any Originality based on the CDCIF (Full Deduction) are not listed on our Standard Deduction Sheet. Such parts may be described as: SIGNIFICANTLY DISSIMILAR. A good example is the typical parts-house (AutoZone, O’Riley etc.) Cooling Fan Clutch. Judging Example: One of the most often “non-original” parts encountered on the chassis are the shock absorbers. They are a single line item and have a value of 5 points. Based on the CDCIF we can make the following determination: Configuration: Check nuances on the shock absorber body (may be different print, “Made in Mexico” etc.) Date: Check for presence of date. (Not necessary, if a non-typical configuration has been detected) Completeness: Are any factions missing?? Installation: Are the bolts, washers at their intended places and orientation (or reversed)?? Finish: Is the shock painted in a typical finish (lower bushings free of paint etc)?? Conclusion: A shock absorber with “Made In Mexico,” finished and installed in a typical manner would differ in the Configuration (1 Point) as well as the Date (1 point) since we know that a shock with such configuration was manufactured later than the car. Total deduction would be 2 points. OUR COMMENTS ON THE SHEET WOULD BE: Configuration (No Pliacell Script / Delco Part Number), Date Provided by Marco Hartner 21
