State of The Chapter As we close the door on winter and open the window on spring, we look forward to getting our Corvette’s out of storage and on the road. With Covid-19 ramping down and life getting back to more normal we are hopeful that 2022 will be a better year than the past few. We are looking forward to more monthly Technical Sessions, Social Activities and our Spring and Summer Judging Events. Here’s a recap of the club events and activities during the past three months. • Board Meetings: The board was scheduled and met on January 6, February 3 and March 3, the meetings were conducted at Davanni’s on White Bear Ave. in East St. Paul. • Technical Sessions: On January 29, eleven (11) members attended the riveting of metal supports on the underbody at Andy Piazza’s house on his 64 Convertible. On February 5, eleven (11) members attended the installing a rear fuel filter, fixing leaks at the fuel pump, and a new gas line from pump to carb at Chris Enstrom’s house on his 67 Convertible. • Social Activities: No activities during this period. • Judging School/Events: On March 12, eighteen (18) members attended a Judging School at Paul Burski’s shop on his 62 Convertible. During the class we reviewed the Flight Judging requirements for Chassis and Mechanical sections. We continue to look for suggestions from our club members on how to improve our club events and increase membership participation. Please feel free to contact me with your ideas. Paragon Rewards Program – Starting up our Sixth Year
The North Central Chapter is in its sixth consecutive year in the Paragon Rewards Program. In past years the rewards dollars were used as door prizes, raffle prizes, etc. at chapter events such as tech sessions, judging meets, and social functions. In the next few weeks we’ll find out our rewards dollars earned in 2021, and we’ll be sharing that news with you in a future monthly Chapter update or Newsletter. The chapter currently has in excess of 35 members participating in the Rewards Program. We owe a great big thank you to these 35+ members for purchasing Corvette parts from Paragon Corvette. THANK YOU!! If you’re not sure whether you are participating or would like to join those members participating just email Don O’Grady. E mail ogradydon1800@gmail.com. There is no need to have purchased from Paragon Corvette in the past. Every little bit helps the chapter.

Membership Update Spring is here and most of us are getting a little excited to see how our Corvettes survived the winter. We started out 2022 with 138 members and added two new members who have recently joined our chapter. This brings our total membership to 140. I will be reaching out to the 100 or so NCRS members in our area who belong to the National club, but do not belong to our chapter, to see if they have an interest in joining.
Current Members
Gary Bosselman resides in Roscoe, Illinois and he has been an NCRS member since 1979. Gary is a 400 point Master Judge and is very knowledgeable about the early C3s. He owns a ’68, a ’70 and a 2013 which he did the “buyer experience” and watched it being built; he took delivery at the National Corvette Museum. Mike Treece lives in Paulding, OH and he is also a 400 point Master Judge. You might recognize his name if you participate in any of the Virtual Judging Schools. Mike is the instructor for these schools and his talks have been very informative. The most recent one was on the changes in valve covers from 1953 through the C5s. Speaking for the chapter, we very much appreciate all the work that Mike puts in for these Judging Schools to be a success. Here is a link to the various schools he has taught so far. https://www.ncrs.org/ hoo/links.html As you can see, we have several members who do not live close by, but they are very active in the NCRS and they are both great resources for our chapter. Gary and Mike, welcome to the North Central Chapter. We look forward to seeing you at events in our Region V area. I look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events in 2022. Florida Regional I recently attended the Florida Regional in Lakeland, Florida with my daughter, Sarah. This was my 5th or 6th time going to this event, but it was Sarah’s first time. Several of our members were also there and I enjoyed visiting with them. They included Alden and Lyn Miles, Dave Cloutier, Ken Divine, Doug Jolstad, Andre Montgomery, Brad Hillhouse, Gary Neimanis and Gary Bosselman. I helped out in judging the 2005 to 2007 C6’s. These years will be added to the judging program sometime after the 2023 National Convention. We were working with the new manual that Pete Bergman is editing, along with the new judging sheets to verify everything is going smoothly. We were able to provide some helpful information to improve the manuals and judging sheets. This practice judging will continue at all of the Regional Meets this year. Dave Cloutier volunteered my services to help out in the Concours Class and I judged operations on a 67 Corvette with Vintage Air and a restomod 65 coupe with an LS7 motor. It was quite the car with a box tubular frame and C4 suspension. The paint appeared to be several inches thick. This was my first time judging Concours Corvettes and it was fun. The weather was beautiful and we all had a good time. Jerome Lardy

Chapter Tech Session I hosted a North Central NCRS judging school on Saturday, March 12, at my car storage condo in Prescott, Wisconsin. We had 19 members in attendance. Hosting a tech session and/or judging is a great way to not only get work done on your car, but it’s also network and spend time with other Corvette enthusiasts. I really like learning from our knowledgeable members about these awesome cars and they are more than willing to teach us what they know. As always, kids, grandkids, and friends are welcome at these events. The purpose of the judging school was to evaluate my ‘62 Corvette to see what I should do to the car before having it judged at our upcoming Charter meet in May. We started out making brief introductions of all the members and what year cars they own. Judging Chair, Chris Enstrom, discussed what is involved in becoming a judge and the easiest way to get started. Chris made sure to tell all of the members who are new to judging that they will be paired up with a more experienced judge to learn the NCRS scoring system and show them what to look for when judging a car. We started out with the car up on a lift so all of the members could see the chassis of the car. Normally, this is never the case when you actually judge a car at an event. The first thing we noticed was the rear shocks on the car were still the original shocks. It was decided that it would be best to leave them on the car for the May event. I have a new set of AC Delco shocks for the car, which would be the one you would want as a replacement if the original shocks were not available. We also noticed the rear axle identification tag was missing for the car. This small metal tag is mounted at the 1:00 position on the rear pumpkin section of the rear end. This tag only costs about $7 and is an easy part to install to avoid having a point deducted. I already have the tag and will get it mounted before May.

Chapter Tech Session We looked at the frame and noticed that none of the factory stencils are still painted on the frame. I have the paint available, but need to order the correct stencils. I pointed out that I have a spin-on oil filter for the car. I have an old original canister style for the car which I will use instead. It was discussed and decided that I should install the old canister-style filter set up on the car. The car has a non-GM brand battery, which would be a full deduction of 40 points in the judging sheets. If I purchase an AC Delco replacement battery, I can save 15 points from being deducted. We lowered the car on the lift and looked at different parts in the engine compartment and interior. I had many old original parts and non-original aftermarket replacement parts to look at for comparison purposes. We looked a Paragon air cleaner assembly versus an older correct looking air cleaner from a GTO. We looked at the differences between finned aluminum and stamped steel valve covers. We compared a set of steel Corvette valve covers versus a set for a Chevrolet passenger car. We also compared an original interior door knob versus an aftermarket replacement knob and noted the very apparent differences in diameter, finish and threaded mounting hole configuration. The car has a working aftermarket AM/FM cassette player installed. However, I do have an original Wonderbar AM radio for the car, but I’m not sure it works. We decided I’m better leaving the working aftermarket radio installed and getting 20 points during operations sections versus losing 16 points during interior judging. The last item we looked at was the plywood spare tire cover from the trunk of the car. I had two covers to compare. The cover should be made from 5-ply plywood and a have lightly stained black finish. The first cover we looked at was painted a dark black and was only made from 3-ply plywood and was too thin. The second cover was only 4-ply and was a natural wood color and the correct thickness. We decided that I should lightly stain the second cover black and add the foam mounting blocks, metal cup and screws and the proper jack instruction stickers before having the car judged. I’m glad we reviewed my car and I better understand what I should and should not do to my car before having it judged. I’m currently cleaning up the car and replacing parts before our judging meet. If you have an idea for a tech session, need help working on your Corvette or would like to host a session of your own, please let us know. Thanks, Paul Burski Vice Chairman Assistant Tech Director

A judging journey My 15-year anniversary
My journey with NCRS started in November of 2006. I joined because I was beginning the restoration of my 1967 convertible. As I went through the process and learned more about the car, it became clear that my efforts would be more efficient if I were involved as a judge. In March of 2007, I attended my very first judging school. It gave me one point. Now 15 years later, I am at 321 points. Additionally, for the last 10 years I have had the privilege of representing the North Central Chapter as the Judging Chairman. I would like to share more information about judging, and hopefully encourage those of you that are on the fence about being a judge to get started. When judging assignments are issued at a Chapter Meet, we typically are pairing less experienced judges with more experienced judges. We do that for two reasons. First, there are details around the process for judging a Corvette. Second, there are details around the content for judging a Corvette. The process for judging a Corvette is contained in the Judging Reference Manual (JRM). The process covers all years of Corvettes that NCRS is currently judging (1953 – 2004). We are in the middle of expanding the scope of judged cars into the C6 generation. The content is held in the NCRS Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide (TIM/JG) for each model year or small range of model years. The TIM/JG is made available during the judging events for reference during the actual judging of the car. Both of these manuals can be found online at www.ncrs.org in the store. An example TIM/JG for the ’67 model year and the JRM are shown below.
Judging is always done in a two-person team, and sometimes with a third person acting in an Observer Judge capacity. The two judges on that team are the ones responsible for making a determination as to whether or not the part that is being examined meets the factory standard that is outlined in the TIM/JG. The NCRS judging standard operates on a deduction system. We take points away if we see a deviation from the factory standard. The two judges need to agree on the deduction being taken. If they don’t agree, then the benefit of the doubt goes to the owner. Whether points are deducted or not, it is recommended to at least note what the judges saw if they believe there is a deviation from the factory standard. That allows the owner to do some further research on that component and make a determination later if anything needs to be done. There are five sections of the car that are judged: Interior, Exterior, Mechanical, Chassis, and Operations. After each section is judged, the results are reviewed with the owner. Typically, if there is an Observer Judge (OJ), that is the person that is writing the notes on the judging sheets. But the OJ is not allowed to make commentary back to the owners. It is the place of the two main judges to do so. When you sign up to be a judge, the registration form asks you for your preference in terms of which model year(s) and what sections you’d like to judge. Know that we get a different mix of model years at each Chapter 9

Meet, so we can’t always accommodate your request. But we do the best we can. In deciding what year(s) to focus on, most people start with the year of car they own. That can give them a head start in terms of building the content base for being a judge. Other people look for a model year that they are interested in owning in the future and start there. Those are just two examples of how to start with a preference. If you start with your model year car, I would encourage you to purchase the manual for that model year and start reading it. Many of the manuals have color photos of the parts in question and updated descriptions. Each time you volunteer to participate at a judging event as a judge, you are awarded Judging Points. Typically, at the Chapter Meet you’ll receive 2, Regional up to 7, and the National up to 15. Our Chapter Meets sometimes award 5 because we split the event into two days. NCRS recognizes judges who have received 100 points with a Master Judge award in the form of a black hat. At the 200 level, the award is a hat, a polo shirt and a jacket both with your name embroidered on it. At the 300 level, the award is a hat, an embroidered shirt and a gold 300-point pin. The award at the 400 level is similar to 300. And recently the NCRS has instituted awards for those members who progress beyond 400 points. We also recognize Tabulators who have gained similar levels of recognition. Tabulation points are earned when a member signs up to tabulate the score sheets at an NCRS judging event. 5 Tabulation points are earned per event. More details can be found in the JRM. There are benefits that come with being a judge. You get to meet new people in the Chapter and learn from them. Each member has different areas of expertise and sharing knowledge has always been a cornerstone of NCRS. Some members choose to travel to nearby Chapter events in Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Illinois. Going to other chapters affords you the opportunity to see cars that wouldn’t come to our Chapter Meet. I remember judging my first car with air conditioning. The configuration of the interior passenger fresh air vent on a C2 is different than it is without air conditioning. Had I have not traveled to the Wisconsin meet where that air-conditioned car was being judged, it would have taken me longer to see that particular configuration and learn about it. Our chapter has had a good track record lately of at least a few members going to each of the nearby Chapter Meets to help support the other chapters nearby. Also, if you have had your car judged at the Chapter Meet, volunteering to judge returns the favor to other members. If you are interested in going to nearby Chapter Meets, please reach out to someone on the board and ask. We would be happy to have you come along. Splitting hotel room and gas costs makes it easier on the pocketbook. Another opportunity to earn more judging points comes in the case of the National Judging Retreat. The NCRS puts on a retreat every few years. It is typically in Dallas, TX, and is a two-day event. The first day is filled with classroom learning about the judging process. The second day is all about hands-on practice judging of cars. The cars that are there for you to learn from are all typically unrestored cars. These cars have also usually been awarded the Chevrolet Bowtie Award for Preservation Excellence (C1, C2, C3) or the Crossed Flags Award for Preservation Excellence (C4, C5). Looking at an original car is one of the best ways to learn. If NCRS decides to host one of these events again, I highly recommend you consider going. Twenty (20) judging points are awarded, and you can attend two retreats and earn a grand total of 40 points. If you decide to attend a third retreat, you are welcome to, but no points are awarded. The photo that prominently features the blue C1 is from one of the Judging Retreats. When you sign up to be a judge at our Chapter Meet, you’ll find it to be a friendly environment. The goal for hosting these events is to help the car owner achieve the award that they are pursuing. Flight Judging is an open book test, and we give out partial credit! Each line item on the judging sheets is split into two pieces, originality and condition. The points assigned to originality are further divided into five subsections: configuration, date, completeness, installation, and finish. 10

What most people don’t realize about NCRS until they either are a judge or have their car judged is that most of the smaller details we spend time talking about don’t actually amount to many points. Certainly, there are sections that do have a lot of points attached to them such as the engine and the paint. But most details are pretty small. And most Corvettes we see presented on the judging field for Flight Judging are closer to the factory standard than their owners think they are. The photo below with mostly C3s in it is from one of our Chapter Meets.
This Flight Judging process happens at three different levels. The chapter, regional, and national level. The photo down below that prominently features a row of early C1s is from the Novi, MI, National Convention a few years ago. As you can see, when you move from attending the Chapter Meet to a Regional Meet, and then again up to the National Convention, the number of cars increases, but the overall process for Flight Judging is the same. The main difference between the chapter level and the regional / national level is that there are additional awards beyond Flight Judging that can be pursued at the Regional and National levels. Consult our website or the JRM for more details about those awards. My experience throughout the years of judging has been one of learning and sharing. I have learned a great deal from other members and been able to share with other members what I know. From the outside looking in, the NCRS judging process can seem intimidating. I can assure you that it is a friendly place to be with other people who share a common interest. The passion in NCRS for these cars is amazing, and the amount of detail that is known about these cars is also amazing. In many cases, NCRS can tell you roughly what VIN number a rolling production change happened within one model year. We are always looking for people who are interested in getting started at being an NCRS judge. There are multiple opportunities for you to get started and lots of help along the way. And, most importantly, we usually have donuts! I sincerely hope you will consider starting your journey on the path of judging Corvettes. I am available to answer any questions you have. I look forward to seeing you at the next NCRS event. Chris Enstrom NCRS North Central Chapter Judging Chairman

Is Corvette a verb or a noun?
We have all enjoyed having a corvette in our lives. Sometimes the work over shadows the joy. The times when we can say, “that’s my car!”, reveals the noun coming through. Or when we see the next corvette we wish to possess, a picture in a magazine, ah – a 19xx Corvette with a capital C. Yes, that is a noun. But let’s be honest, when that treasure requires some special attention. It becomes a verb. Not an adverb like, “Fastest, Reddest, Bluest, Best-est.” For years I was just one more adjustment away from being done. I actually thought I was going to be done. My wife would just smile, shake her head and leave me to that adjustment. I say adjustment because it was never just or only a new paint job, new carburetor, tune up, cleaning, cleaning and cleaning, it was always just one more thing. And when that verb changes into that noun, look out. Its what brings some of us back to that hobby that our friend encouraged us to try. My Corvette. And let me clarify, it’s not an addiction. It’s a love affair with a work of art that we have been allowed to experience. Think of the time your significant other took you to that museum and shared with you a painting or sculpture to increase your understanding of TRUE art. You go back home, go to that special place, remove the protective covering and find yourself in the presence of art carved from fiberglass. Not smelted mind you. The lines so elegant, the color so unbelievable, no other object in the world looks like or is so satisfying. As I look out at the snow, I know that one day soon, we will all be together. Not in the hereafter, but at a Tech Session, Judging School or just out for a drive. Corvette- a Noun for the ages. (Be sure to read the next edition of Corvette becomes a Verb) Dave Murphy

Member of the Month January - Jason Jones I have been married to my wife Amy for 28 years years. We have two children, Rylee is 24 years old and Ryan is 22. We currently have a 1985 Corvette. It was a bit of a basket case when we purchased it.
February - Andre Montgomery
We have replaced most of the interior and I have it disassembled for paint, hopefully to be finished in the spring. I have been a bodyman/painter for 30+ years and have a little history with this car as I had done some light paint work on it when it was new. This is the first Corvette we have owned, although I have painted several over the years. I would like to add an early C3 at some point, although finishing the 85 is priority. I joined the NCRS about 4 years ago when we purchased the 85. That is when I became interested in Corvettes and their history. That’s a quick run down of my Corvette history.
First of all, we are excited to be part of this NCRS Chapter. Everyone has been very kind and helpful. We have a 1967 SB 350hp in restoration and plan to show it at Bloomington Gold this coming June. In the fall we hope to have it judged at the fall meet and maybe take it to the Midwest regional in 2023. In the past we have owned 5 other Corvettes. Presently I am the President of Classic Corvettes of Minnesota, which has about 300 members. This club is more of a social club with C1-C8s represented. I have enjoyed this chapter’s tech sessions as well as the judging meets. I appreciate the detail and the desire NCRS has in keeping the originality of the Corvette. Without NCRS, most Corvettes would become restomods. On a personal level, we love to spend time with our 3 sons and their families which includes our five grandchildren. Both Julianne and I are happily retired.

In 1987, he told me about his friend that wanted to buy a Porsche 911, and was looking to sell a 1978 Corvette that he bought as new. I then purchased his friends car. It was a 1978 Corvette with an L-82 engine, 4 speed and 13k miles. A year later, my friend told me of a lady that was recently divorced and had a somewhat disassembled 1967 Corvette Convertible. My 1978 was like new, and needed nothing. I was looking to take on a project, and this ’67 was the perfect candidate. So I bought it. Both of my Corvettes were purchased within one year. What is your next Corvette project? Installing a new convertible top on the 1967 When did you join the NCRS? I joined NCRS a few years ago after meeting Jerome Lardy at a picnic with Tim DeAtley

Chairman’s Report Alden had spoken before about getting together with the other Region 5 clubs and proposed that we have the chair of our club join all the other clubs to at least get their newsletters. This would include Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana. We already cover Manitoba, North and South Dakota. There are benefits from having these connections. Alden made a motion for the Chair to join all the Region 5 clubs and Chris seconded. The motion carried. Vice Chairman’s Report Paul could not make the meeting but updated the Board on the Survey Results from last year. He highlighted the suggestions that we were able to complete and those yet to be worked on.The Green highlighted is stuff we accomplished. Red highlighted items are thing we need to do. Treasurer’s Report. Tim reported that our finances are fine. Judging Report Chris reported that he bought the new judging manuals and it did save him a lot of time and the manuals are now easier to use rather than the old 3 ring binder method. Our Spring Judging at Gilby’s Street Dept. 634 N Glover Rd Hudson,WI on May 13 &14 has added one 71 for judging and two Sportsman cars with more interest already such that we should have a full event. Chris will work with Gilby to layout where the Flight cars will be, the Display cars and those that drive. Chris then deferred to Dave Murphy to discuss food. Dave shared that he had gotten quotes on the subway sandwiches for both 6 inch and 12 inch and the board decided to go with the 6 inch sub. Dave then reviewed the appetizers from HyVee and will send the list to all the Board so they can voice which appetizers we should get for Friday night. Membership Report Jerome reported that there were no new members this month. We have approximately 147 members with 1/3 still needing to pay their dues. Tech Report Bob was not present but there will be two Tech Sessions in January, Saturday January 15th at Chris Enstrom’s home and Saturday January 29 at Andy’s. An email was sent. Website Report Sarah shared the new website which raised some good questions and the Board approved launching the new site. Kevin asked about costs and no new costs were anticipated by Sarah. The chair is awaiting the invoice from Sarah. The chair also felt that Sarah, prior to being a Board Member, went above and beyond the details contracted with her. Therefore, a motion was made by Dave Murphy to give Sarah a $150 Visa Gift Card to thank her for her extra efforts. Don O’Grady seconded and the motion carried. Newsletter Report Nick was not present but reported that the newsletter was the best we have ever had and it caught the attention of Mark Tulley, the National VP of NCRS. Member-at-Large Report Jason Jones is the member of the month for January with his C4. Andre Montgomery will be the member of the month for February. Old Business Jerome stated that the Chapter Top Flight Award Program will be back up and running in 2022.

Gary lives in Illinois but is very active in our Region V. He is an extremely knowledgeable C3 judge so it is great that he has decided to join us. Jerome will be reaching out to other NCRS members in our area who do not belong to our chapter to see if they have an interest in joining. This has been a successful tactic in the past and we have obtained a few great members by doing this. Tech Report Paul and Bob reported that there would be a Judging School on Saturday, March 12 at Paul’s storage condo in Prescott, WI. This is right across the river from Hastings. Paul is having his ’62 judged and wants to go over the Corvette using the judging sheets to see what needs to be addressed. You will earn 1 judging point for attending. This will be a great judging school for anybody thinking about having their car judged in the future. We will also discuss the cost per point ratio which is helpful in getting the most bangs for your buck. An email has already been sent out with all the details. Bob talked about possible tech sessions at Andy’s, Jerome’s and Perry Canton’s homes. Activities Report Don said the Spring Social is set up for May 7 at Lucky’s 13 Pub in Mendota, MN. The Fall Social is set for October 15 at Mancini’s Char House in St Paul. Don also mentioned that he is looking into a possible picnic at a local park. Website Report Sarah reported that she submitted a Facebook post on 2/22/22 for members to show off their C2’s for 2’sday. The website is running well with no issues. Newsletter Report Nick reported that the newsletter will be coming out at the end of the month. He needs articles so please submit anything you might have no later than the 25th. Member-at-Large Report Kevin Sullivan reported that Jerry Siler is the Member of the Month for March. Read all about him on our chapter website, www. northcentralncrs.com. Old Business There was none. New Business Kevin mentioned the September 18 Shriner Car Show as a possible event. MEETING ADJOURNED The NCRS Membership in the North Central NCRS is open to person interested in the restoration, preservation, and history of the Corvette produced by the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors Corporation from 1953 thought 1999. NCRS is not affiliated with Chevrolet or General Motors. Membership in the North Central Chapter of the NCRS is open to all members of the NCRS National organization. Dues payable to the North Central Chapter are $25.00 per years. All editorial materials should be sent to Nick Kornder, Editor, (Kornder@NorthernSun.org). Advertising in the North Central Newsletter is free to all active members for personal items. Commercial advertising rates for the newsletter are: $12.50 per year for a business card; $25.00 per year for a half page ad and $50 per year for a full page ad. Deadlines for articles and advertising are: March 1, June 1, September 1 and December 1 of each year. The NCRS Judging Process The NCRS has compiled and is constantly updating highly detailed judging standards and rules for each basic model division from 1953 through 1999. The guidelines in these NCRS Technical Information Manuals are recognized throughout the hobby as THE STANDARD in determining originality. The judging system is designed to educate each owner about their car as well as providing recognition for excellence in the areas of restoration, performance, or preservation. It is not a “cleanliness contest” like other events, nor do you compete against your friends’ Corvettes. Judging is not done by some secret group of “experts”. You can learn to judge, or you can have your Corvette evaluated by other NCRS members. 10,516 members are currently recognized for their judging expertise. They have created 27,871 NCRS judging records through NCRS events internationally to date. New Item Added NCRS has recently announced the addition of an Award Confirmation Document Service. This service will provide a confirmation document with a complete listing from the NCRS database of the available award statistics for a specific Corvette. The presence of this confirmation document will assure the owner of the NCRS judging history on a Corvette. 19

MAKING JUDGING SHEET REFERENCES BASED ON THE C-D-C-I-F As the NCRS judging system is based on 5 different descriptions for ORIGINALITY, with each having a value of 20%, it is most helpful to the owner, that we use the same descriptions for the comments on the sheets, when we judge their cars. C = CONFIGURATION D = DATE C = COMPLETENESS I = INSTALLATION F = FINISH The use of words like “Service Replacement”, “Reproduction” or “Restoration” are very little to no help to the owner, since they do not describe WHAT the difference to original is. Since we judge the APPEARANCE of ORIGINALITY, we do not care where the particular judged part comes from (Original GM, Restoration Parts House or Neighbors Shed). BAD WORDS:
INSTEAD USE:
“Wrong”
“Not Typical”
“Incorrect”
“Not Typical”
Certain parts, which do not reflect any Originality based on the CDCIF (Full Deduction) are not listed on our Standard Deduction Sheet. Such parts may be described as: SIGNIFICANTLY DISSIMILAR. A good example is the typical parts-house (AutoZone, O’Riley etc.) Cooling Fan Clutch. Judging Example: One of the most often “non-original” parts encountered on the chassis are the shock absorbers. They are a single line item and have a value of 5 points. Based on the CDCIF we can make the following determination: Configuration: Check nuances on the shock absorber body (may be different print, “Made in Mexico” etc.) Date: Check for presence of date. (Not necessary, if a non-typical configuration has been detected) Completeness: Are any factions missing?? Installation: Are the bolts, washers at their intended places and orientation (or reversed)?? Finish: Is the shock painted in a typical finish (lower bushings free of paint etc)?? Conclusion: A shock absorber with “Made In Mexico,” finished and installed in a typical manner would differ in the Configuration (1 Point) as well as the Date (1 point) since we know that a shock with such configuration was manufactured later than the car. Total deduction would be 2 points. OUR COMMENTS ON THE SHEET WOULD BE: Configuration (No Pliacell Script / Delco Part Number), Date Provided by Marco Hartner 20
